How any of you got the free Lil' Sweet?

So when I was 13 I witnessed a little girl fall off a 4th of July parade float. The float which was driven by her dad then drove over her and she died. Shortly after I wrote this poem. One of my mom’s friends has had it on her fridge for the last 27 years.

Today hurts more than I thought it would. Which for the record I did not think was possible.

Everything is better with a good hug

Giving support while also grieving

I don’t like to say “loved”. It doesn’t feel appropriate. I still love them, but the grammar police in my brain makes it feel inaccurate to say “love” as opposed to using past tense. Does anybody else have nagging little hang ups like this?

A year ago today I signed a DNR for my dad and made the decision to take him off life support.
