Genderbent Sabertooth by Christian Dave Gonzales
By - Lycurgus-117
This feels more like a generic blonde superhero lady in sabertooth’s costume than a female saber tooth personally. The art is good, but the character design feels like it missed the character/personality to me.
Creed’s face is usually depicted as rugged, twisted from constant fits of rage and cruelty. This face has none of that. Genderbending is very fun to do to characters but it also highlights certain industry issues because beauty qualifications change for the character when they go from male to female.
Agreed...she should be snarling, or at look angry...or at least annoyed?
Can a woman's face be rugged? I do think she could look a bit more feral and rough. I don't really see how this is necessarily a industry issue. I think there are definitely some constraints when designing female and male characters because for the most part we have very different facial structures.
Yes. A woman’s face can be rugged.
This post. Great art! But yeah definitely feels like a blonde in a saber-suit
Its just weird, I've never heard a woman's face be describe as rugged before. I know women can have masculine features, but they don't tend to be described as rugged.
I just really don’t have the energy to introduce the concept of gender neutrality in adjectives to someone on the internet today. I think you mean well. If the 84 is an indicator of your birth year, you’ve got about 5 on me and I know the world is a rapidly changing place for people in our age group. But you might want to familiarize yourself developing on increasingly prevalent concept.
Best of luck in your educational ventures.
I wasn't asking you to educate me on gender neutrality. I'm actually in the 99 age group. So, lets just say I definitely still have quite long way to go in life. Its not that I don't know that both women and men cant exhibit feminine and masculine characteristic's. Its more, that I've never heard woman being referred to as rugged. This of course could be a age thing. That I've not lived long enough to hear or see the term used to refer to a woman. That being said, Referring to a woman as rugged in concept or real life I imagine is rare. So its not that bizarre, nor is it usually the norm. I also don't know why your even questioning if I'm genuine or not? We all have different life experience's.
I very specifically did not educate you. You’re welcome.
Are you calling me a cunt or was your comment directed at TheGeekPoet? If you are calling me a cunt, then fuck you. But, if you aren't calling me a cunt. Well then I appreciate the assist.
I have no reason to thank you, so you can take you're condescension an shove it up your ass.
My rugged ass.
Totally agree. Nothing about her says sabertooth to me either.
Yeah, if I've been told that this lady is Captain Marvel dressed in Sabertooth's iconic costume I would have no reason to disagree. The art ain't bad though and I'm a fan of genderbent characters.
I can definitely see why you feel that way. I do feel like she could look a bit more feral. But otherwise, I think she looks great.
She doesn't look bloodthirsty, slightly perturbed at best
Huh, I feel like she's deciding if she's gonna kill someone or not.
Whereas sabertooth would've already done it.
Eh, I would say it depends. He is definitely the type to kill on a whim. But, depending on the situation and whos writing him at the time. He can put those murderous impulses on hold, for a time. At one point, he was even on the road to redemption. But, that unfortunately did not last long.
Am I annoying you? This is a place for discussion. If you didn't want a reply you didn't have to comment. But you do you, I guess...
Thanks for explaining how reddit works for me
Your welcome. It seemed very obvious, that you don't know how communication and being polite on the internet works.
So, now your going to act like a little troll?
So Sabertooth just gets the Spider-Man font now?
I think it looks pretty cool, especially with the blood splatter.
It's what was used for his series in the 90s
Why is she so much calmer?
I wouldn't say calmer, maybe calculating.
Calculating is Calmer, Normal Sabertooth in that pose shows he isn't containing his snarl.
Calculating can be calmer yes, But it also means being ruthless. There are times where Sabretooth isn't snarling.
She looks like how my cat looks at me when she’s pissed off
I feel like a female Sabretooth would have scraggly Tina Turner hair. But this is nice.
So I am imagining a slightly grimy, beefy, 7 foot blonde a la Amazon from *Dragon's Crown*, but with protruding fangs and claws. Maybe like a bulky, murderous [Heather Greene](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1a/9b/80/1a9b80e136ba6d5af83707c9e807e159.jpg).
And I am both unsettled and aroused.
Her face is a little young and delicate for Creed, but it is still refreshing to see a "female version of male character" take that's not just the male character's design but as lingerie.
Why are they always so scared to give female characters strong facial expressions?
I doubt this has anything to do with fear, I'm guessing they just feel that this particular pose didn't need that sort of expression. I somewhat partially agree, considering she looks like she's currently stalking her prey. Which is very a sabretooth like thing to do.
I’ve seen a picture of Sabre-tooth in the same pose and they give him a big scowl with blood and saliva dripping from his visible fangs with savagery in his eyes. You never see female characters in the same way because if they do they’re no longer pretty of fetishy. But I will say, the art is still great and the artist is skilled. And at least they didn’t
make Veronica Creed’s butt stick out like most comic ladies.
I guess I'm just weird, because if she had the look your describing. I would still think she looks hot. But then again I'm not the majority for most male comic readers. So your probably right. Also her butt could still be sticking out, considering we are only getting a pose from the front. And if it is, I don't really see anything wrong with it. A lot of male heroes get fetishized butt poses.
Oh I think she’d be hot too. And yeah, let’s stop fetishising make heroes too. And yes I mean Spider-Man.
Are there any non-attractive female characters in X-men? There should be a couple who look like Charlize Theron's character in Monster. Or even overweight.
Does the mutant gene not have any middle ground between attractive and deformed mutated monstrosity?
I've always found Calisto to be kind of ugly, especially in the early x men comics.
Yes for def, though she's gotten a little curvier and attractive through the years.
I guess it's all about the targeted demographic and sales.
No sideburns? Coward!
Yeah, but she wouldn't be hot anymore. So no sideburns.
A woman sabertooth would be really fucking cool. Would be awesome for Laura to have a real recurring villain.
Kimura was definitely a recurring antagonist of Laura, probably her archenemy
I think that would be weird, like since you’re the lady-Wolverine you need the lady-sabertooth. It would add focus to her being a legacy character, as opposed to growing into her own character, also it’s a little on the nose. It would be like if Nightwing battled a younger joker or Gwen Stacy battled a teen, girl, green goblin.
Well we have Deathstrike buts it's been a while since she's popped up
Kimura was X-23's recurring villain. She was scary because she was invulnerable to adamantium, so she could smash Laura without Laura being able to do anything about it.
In a way, scarier than Sabretooth, since at least Wolverine can still hurt him.
Second this! Fan art is fantastic too!
I feel like Woman sabretooth would still be Logan's archenemy. But they would have different dynamics. I see Victoria creed being more of the jealous, spurned lovers type. Who goes around killing all of Logan's girlfriends and making his life a living hell because things didn't work out between them.
I never got the indication that Deathstrike was in love with logan or had feelings for him. If my comics lore is correct. The whole reason Why Deathstrike hates Logan is because she believes he stole her fathers notes on adamantium bonding. Her reasoning for hating Logan usually follows that.
Absolutely disgusting. Why would anyone do this? This Sabertooth doesn't even look like she wants to murder everyone here
I mean it is possible for a character to have different expressions. Sabertooth is often portrayed as being murderhappy, but he also can be ruthless and calculating when it suits him. I think she definitely has that ruthless edge to her, but she could look a little meaner and angrier.
In guess jokes don't translate well in s written form. But yes, she should look a bit more aggressive
Yeah, I couldn't tell if were you joking there for sec. But , I do agree with you and a lot of the other commenters that she should look more psychotic.
Perfect and an awesome interpretation, but the only thing missing are the sharp, mean teeth
Yep, I agree, If she were bearing her teeth in like an open snarl. Then she would be perfect.
At first I thought the picture said Saratooth, and that actually kinda works
Everything good but the face, which completely misses the mark. There's a reason Sabretooth is almost invariably depicted with mouth open screaming in rage.
Depends on the writer.
wow never thought about it
This is actually an interesting concept. How might a female Sabertooth be different from the male version. Mist of the times they seem to graft the male traits to the female character. Bit for this I'd like to see a female representation of a svage character.
Which feamle writer do you think would do the best?
Victoria Creed I assume
Doesn’t this uniform usually have huge spikes on the elbows?
Not that I'm aware of, maybe your thinking of an alternate version of Sabertooth?
I know the elbow spikes are in the Contest of Champions game.
Were are her white eyes?
There are sometimes where Sabertooth is drawn with regular eyes. I'm guessing the creator wanted to go with a more modern look.
haha, I've never really liked that Sabretooth costume before but this kind of works.
