Once The Dad Friend Always The Dad Friend (Champions #3)
By - DarkAlphaZero
This is my favorite version of Cyclops: the leader protecting others.
Agreed. Cyclops has been giving zero fucks since Schism.
Absolutely love it. Doesn’t compromise, doesn’t hesitate. No longer the consummate Boy Scout. Thank you, Emma
She was the best thing that ever happened to him.
Agreed, hate that she got shafted when Jean was most recently resurrected
I think she's still getting shafted tho
Emma now has Cyclops and Jean.
They all do (ahem, Maddie)
I’m kinda eh on the whole time displaced X-Men, some good stuff and some bad, but I love that they retconned their memories for stuff like this. When Scott shows up to save them in War of the Realms and this I was hootin and hollerin
This is one of my favorite Cyclops bits of the recent past. It's great to see Mr. X-Man himself have a side team.
It is very good. Kamala doesn't know if Scott still remembers her and somewhat cuts her off that he remembers everything and treasures his time with with her and the Champions.
Best thing to come out of the time displacement, easily.
This is why Cyclops is my favourite character on the team. He’s a great leader, fighter and tactician but he’s also a loyal friend. He had a crappy childhood and not exactly a happy adult life so the fact that he considered his time on the campions as one of his happiest memories was awesome. And the fact that he came when they needed help just shows his level of loyalty to those he considers friends. One of the few good things that came out of the O5’s visit to the future.
Honestly Young Scott in general was actually pretty good imo, the contrast between him and his modern counterpart was really cool and the bonds he made with characters like the Champs and Laura were really nice.
~~Im still salty he and Laura didn’t end up getting together in Bendis’ All New their dynamic was so good~~
I agree with you… Laura and Warren came out of nowhere and was a cheap cop out.
The worst ship.
Well there was that one time adult Warren fucked a teenager in front of her mom, very classy
Wasn't it ABOVE her mom? Not that that is any better
The glare of the sun would probably make it a fraction of a percent less traumatizing to watch
God don't remind me, an incredible missed opportunity
I loved the time displaced X-Men but I really thought they did a disservice to the characters by having so little interaction between past and present selves. It seemed to me like they were at their best when they were together.
Hes just a downright compelling character.
I love cyclops
He’s the best
Who is to the right of cyclops?
Dust, a mutant with the ability to become a sandstorm.
Legion suggested a different name recently?
It may have been Nightcrawler who suggested Congregation as her name, as she has the ability to unite disparate things (e.g. grains of sand, motes of consciousness).
She's probably not actually changing her name though.
>!Especially since her 'congregation' power is most likely just a function of her base power interacting with Legion's mindscape, it's not really something she does normally.!<
This is what I get for trade waiting WoX
No-one, because Cyclops is always right.
To me my Champions!
You can tell he’s the dad friend because his belt pouches are full of granola bars and organic fruit strips.
Scott Summers goes nowhere without emergency juice boxes.
This is something I really enjoy in modern comics. The old guard not only helping or guiding their young counter parts but also just being there for them when they need them. The idea of Captain America or Cyclops or whoever old guard leader putting their faith in the young heroes is a great lesson. We need to help and guide our kids but to also give them room to breathe and space to grow, make mistakes and learn. Let them discover who they are and trust that they will make the right decisions.
But also with the caveat that if someone hurts them the whole of the Avengers and X-men and Fantastic Four and the frigging Hulk to throw down.
Little annoyed how little a part he played in that arc of Champions but love that he came to his friends aid and I love the idea that Cyclops can be friends with these characters that are at least 2 generations below him and talks to them like he does Jean or any of his generation of heroes. He's way more versatile than I think people notice
This is my favorite cannon to come out of the whole “time displaced having lived those moments so now the older ones have too” bits.
Think I need to read Champions!
The current and previous volumes, led by Ms Marvel, have been amazing. The characters are fun, the stories are interesting, and they're focused mostly on helping people (not just blowing crap up).
I’m a little behind because of MU but the current run is a lot of fun if you like stuff like New X-Men or other teen books like it.
Is Dust a Champion now? Please tell me Dust is being used again.
Dust pops up on Arrako-Mars and has another appearance in the recent Onslaught issue. there’s a couple lines regarding her powers too that were intriguing.
Was disappointed for bit there when she turned out to not be a Champion but, at least, she still makes appearances.
God. This IS Cyclops. Well done!!
Best part of that storyline
I love this so much
This is how they better introduce him!
Dust never really got to do anything with the champions did she ? Except for fight scenes here and there.
Is this a recent issue?
Yes, it’s from the most current run of the Champions. It came out last year I believe.
Been looking for some good Scott leadership moments.
What run of Champions (or series containing the Champions) is this? I checked issue #3 of the 2016 Champions but that doesn't seem to be it.
This is from the current Champions run.
The current 2020 run that starts with the Outlawed one shot before the actual Champions series.
Wait does he remember his time with the champions cause I thought that was an alternate timeline verison thingy?
That's not how Marvel time travel works.
Marvel time travel works in like a dozen different ways. Always has.
This is very much a Layla Miller/Hela situation.
As opposed to a Bishop/Cable situation. Or a Rachel Summers/Age of Ultron one. Or a Legion Quest/Moira X one.
Well with the time displacement O5 iirc, they were mind wiped and sent back to at the same time they were taken. And as adults they got their memories of their time displacement back but I can't remember when.
And it seems to work fine for Cable and Bishop, they jumped to the past and future without separate timelines being created or something.
It’s cool how Cyclops has memories living in the far future raising cable and as his time displaced younger self. He has a lot of life experience and knowledge.
The moment they left the timeline they got back there memories
Ssssh don’t worry about its
It is this time.
Not a fan of adult Cyclops, but this was a solid moment for him. Once a Champion, always a Champion.
Teenaged super heroes were made illegal without a government approved mentor and those that broke the law were sent to re-education centers, so the Champions were on the run and Cyclops + a couple younger X-men like Dust and Pixie stepped in to help
... He stepped in because *he's on the team*. Scott Summers is a Champion.
Not regular scott, younger time travelling scott.
I doubt they tore up his membership card just because he grew up.
It's not like they're different people. When young Scott went back, old Scott remembered everything.
Thanks! I’ll definitely add it to my list.
