I'm not pro-China by any stretch of the imagination, but the Taiwanese ADIZ extends across the whole of the Taiwan Strait, and into mainland China a significant distance. These flights appeared to be down the middle of the Taiwan Strait.

kompricated

Taiwan never reports chinese flights over their Chinese territory — only when they are provocative. So this disclaimer on their behalf (posted ad nauseam) is unnecessary. edit: curious where you see the flight charts — Taiwan’s ministry is only showing details of the incursion on Oct 2 so far.

Iltlallil

Well it is the identification zone, which is meant to identify potential issues or incursions into Taiwan's airspace. This is particularly relevant gor military aircraft. China is certainly doing this to intimidate, despite your reservations about the intentions.

Old-Barbarossa

Flying planes over their own land? What's to say there not just doing exercises, moving personell or even just moving the planes to a different base?

kompricated

Taiwan never reports these unless aircraft approach or cross the midway mark with no other obvious purpose than to intimidate.

SimUnit

Yes sure, but if a country's ADIZ overlaps into another country's airspace, there will be constant incursions. And I'm sure China is absolutely taking advantage of this to conduct flights intended to intimidate Taiwan, as you say.

chessc

They are going near Pratas Island, a small atoll held by Taiwan.

jex_fex

it’s really scary thinking that one day the planes won’t turn back

caedriel

If Taiwan wants they can blow all of them out of the sky.

Folseit

That would be the end of Taiwan.

J_G_E

that's exactly what China wants - the justification to invade.

caedriel

And most electronic production would stop over night. Then the Chinese would all be attacked by Japan, the USA and the rest of the quad. A fitting end for ch in a

Irakepotato

And that’s how nuclear war starts. Get into Vault 76 while you still can.

bsutto

China just keeps digging itself into a deeper hole.

Erisagi

Shouldn't you be pleased then?

Ngineering

West Taiwan is getting pretty aggressive.
