The Haka is Dumb
By - lil_jon_0002
As a native New Zealander, fuck your opinion. And fuck anyone who isn't a New Zealander and tries to do it.
I was thinking the exact same thing and I'm an ozzy!
I hate the term and idea of cultural appropriation but if anything was gonna be that it'd be Americans doing a haka.
I'm glad you agree! I would feel the same if I ever saw an American (or any other nationality) attempting to didgeridoo. Have they got tired of appropriating the major cultures?
You know your opinion is bad when a New Zealander and an Australian agree it’s bad.
Haha that's so fucking true 😂
And that’s coming from an American. Had 2 counselors at a camp growing up, one from Australia, one from New Zealand and their trash talk basically consisted of calling the Australian a criminal and the New Zealander being called a Sheep lover.
Haha I can imagine that our particular brand of banter took a bit of getting used to? At this point I'm sure the rivalry is a matter of reflex 😂
This is probably a loaded question, but what if a boring white 'Murican like me was interested in the haka? It's super interesting to me and I would love to learn it, but I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes.
I'd offer a slice of my culture but most folks would be better off not having heart disease or creepily militant patriotism.
Mate he's allowed an opinion on the haka.
Didn't say he isn't, but I'm allowed an opinion on his opinion. Plus his opinion is half baked at best if the only display he's ever seen of it has been put on by Americans
Some opinions are unopular because they're wrong.
This, here, is one of them.
The haka is awesome you dickheads
I do sort of cringe when I see it but I'm not against it, it's their culture and they should be proud of it
I literally think about this probably 2 times a month. Its SO cringe. Especially before sports. Like when the national team did the haka before getting eviscerated by the USA basketball team.
Sorry im not impressed by your interpretive dance mate
Wow, so much ignorance in so few words. Do you actually know anything about Maori culture? Or is this another case of a smug American talking shit they know nothing about?
Every time I see it I just roll my eyes and change the channel. I have nothing against New Zealanders and they have some great athletes in several sports, but I really don’t want to see some cultural pre-game ritual. I don’t tune in to watch that.
