Definitely would be cool to have seen it in action longer
This is from my work! We are actually designing a new winch for this vessel to lower the plough with active heave compensation
3D animation of the machine operation.
Yeah, kinda figured how it lays the cable but didn’t know it also folds down to the seabed and digs so deep. If I understand correctly it also has some water jets in the front for trenching?
The plough share does the heavy work for trenching. Normally water jets on the share are used to reduce friction by fluidisation, ie reduce towing force.
Imagine having no context of what that is and seeing a bunch of workers pulling it out of the fucking sea
“Yup, this is the end of the leash. Kraken on the other end”
Just built one of those, check out Royal IHC for another cool trenching ROV called Hi-Traq.
What is pulling the plough?
The ship is pulling the plow. The plow is then pulling the cable under the sediment in the water.
How deep does it bury the cable?
According to [this video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9hEDTRU_F2s), up to 2.2 meters.
I love laying cable.
