innovator97

Except that the dark chocolate that is used in the research is probably a custom made to have unusually high amount of flavonoids(the stuff that have the benefit). The dark chocolate that we buy(the one that's usually edible straight from the package) usually contain very little amount of actual dark chocolate. For this version, you'll probably need to eat to eat 2 full bars of chocolate every day, for a few months. And remember, the normal supermarket chocolate is packed with a lot of sweeteners in order make it appealing to customers. So, you either get tired of eating chocolate, or probably end up with diabetes by the end of this diet.

littlesymphonicdispl

Or...just eat dark chocolate that isn't loaded with sweetners?

dejuanferlerken

Soooo, eat chocolate. Thanks.

Vlad_the_Homeowner

>For this version, you'll probably need to eat to eat 2 full bars of chocolate every day, for a few months. Challenge accepted!

Just don't include me in the hitlist in case something happened to you.

Or. I kind just purtend I didn’t just read this post and feast on chocolate from now on imagining that it’s healing all my ills and makin me sooper healthy.

DO you sneeze when you clean your ears?

BirdInFlight301

No. But I do cough.

COCO__THE__PUFF

I fucking love dark chocolate

Wannacomesitonmydeck

I fucking hate dark chocolate but I’m willing to try it again. What brands do you recommend?

DomiekNSFW

It takes a little bit to get it used to but afterwards it's so hard to eat any milk or light chocolate, as it just tastes like chocolate flavored sugar. 72-78% is a pretty good balance between sweet and bitter.

Slideover71

Just realized this is true. After I tasted dark, which was kind of exotic to me, I couldn't stand milk chocolate.

ThePrussianGrippe

Hershey’s milk chocolate tasted sour after I tried good milk chocolate. They use sour milk in their creation process.

Omponthong

Don't eat or drink anything sweet for 3 days, then eat some dark chocolate. You'll love it.

meat_strings

Lindt, godiva, and even Dove are good. Usually Trader Joe's, whole foods, and other such stores sell their own organic dark chocolate. I always hated it as a kid (only tried hersheys) but once in my 20s it is mostly the only kind of chocolate I'll eat.

slicePuff

Lindt is the GOAT in my opinion. So consistently good and better than all the more expensive hipster brands.

[deleted]

[удалено]

slicePuff

Just Google Lindt 70% dark (my favorite). They also have 80% and above which is also just great and more the type of dark chocolate this article is referring to.

empirebuilder1

Thanks, now I gotta make an extra stop after work and buy chocolate damnit!

Drudicta

I never was able to like lindt dark after they changed manufacturing for their US stuff. Godiva is for sure good though

teamed209

Lindt for me and I put it in the fridge before I eat it.

MegaSillyBean

Tony's Chocolonely https://tonyschocolonely.com/us/en

aiandi

We get the 86% one from trader Joe's and they also have a nice Ugandan bar.

Teledildonic

He says he hates dark chocolate and you want him to start at 86%? I love dark chocolate and can barely do 80+ I'd recommed starting at like 60%

BurritoSupremeBeing

I like Green and Black's [https://us.greenandblacks.com/](https://us.greenandblacks.com/)

RichardCano

Guittard is the best. They have a really good 64% Cocao bar that’s real good and a 70% Cocoa if you want to go darker. Anything past that is too bitter for me.

ErolJenkins

loaded with fiber?

doctorsacred

If you look at it per mass. Per calories, it's really bad. 1,8 g per 100 kcal. Compare that with broccoli, for example, which has 12,3 g per 100 kcal.

jayfeather314

Ok but also to be fair, 100kcal of broccoli is like 300 grams of broccoli (2/3 of a ~~football field~~ pound). I love me some broccoli but that's objectively a lot of broccoli to eat.

Kentuckianquitter

11 grams per 100-gram bar of dark chocolate made from 70-85% cocoa

aaronhayes26

So is celery tho

Mr-Dotties-Dad

Time for a red wine and dark chocolate diet. Hope my work understands it is for my healthy lol.

Gods, just reading that is giving me a migraine lol

Mr-Dotties-Dad

Hahahahahaha but it’s healthy, friend!

LucyEleanor

Rich londoners that lived in the Victorian Era loved it. They made so much that they ended up diluting it with milk and giving to the poor as food.

Lovelytarpit

Webmd is garbage but dark chocolate is divine.

lusciouslou91

I just wish it tasted good.

Kaisencantdie

also chocolate is poisonous to Humans but our tolerance is really high

I’m taking anything with a grain of salt if it comes from the “You either have terminal cancer or are pregnant” website.

I_only_post_here

But Andy, you don't like dark chocolate. You said it lacks the oral ecstasy of it's milkier cousin.

Feebeeps

Yeah I know.

sifterandrake

Oh god, not this again... So next week we are going to be talking about the benefits of drinking wine again, right? Look, I can scientifically make bleach look like it has amazing health benefits when mixing it into your drinking water... The key here is amount and composition. You start saying shit like "chocolate and wine are good for you!" Then every fatass drunk thinks they have an excuse...

Mellowcanuck

Chocolate is healthy stuff....its all the sugar the addicts need.

Korrathelastavatar

I am better at hiding than they are at vision

bigwood87

Apparently it makes you sneeze too

Cacao powder is also super flavorful and very low in calories. It can be pretty effective as an alternative to sweeteners. Edit: I see a lot of skepticism. You're certainly welcome to disagree, but I find adding some cacao (like 10 calories worth) means I need much less sweetener to make things like smoothies or oatmeal palatable (in my opinion, actually a lot tastier than fully sweetened.) Apologies if I didn't add to the discussion, though.

Tythan

Cocoa is naturally not sweet. If yours is, it means that probably half of it is actually sugar.

rapcoz2134

cocoa != cacao

Tythan

*This* is the real TIL

[deleted]

Yeah, people should stop reading above you. Go to the shop, buy 90% or more cocoa, dark chocolate bar and then say how sweet it is. If you've never had it before... Tell me if you even like it? 🤟

Tythan

I do eat 95% chocolate and I love it. But I still don't find it sweet.

[deleted]

Exactly lol. I don't like it because it isn't sweet. I can't eat a lot of other chocolate anyway because that's too sweet - I'm weird.

7788445511220011

It is not sweet, but it is flavorful enough to be an effective alternative to sweeteners imho. It mitigates the need for sweetness by providing a chocolatey taste.

Ahab_Ali

Cacao powder is as effective as an alternative to sweeteners to the same degree ground coffee is effective as an alternative to sweeteners.

7788445511220011

I humbly disagree based on my experience, but you're welcome to your opinion. It goes a long way. For example I add some to oatmeal and it means I need like 1/8th as much sugar to make it palatable.

BirdInFlight301

I'd be interested to learn why it does that for you. I'm one of the people who can't eat cilantro because it tastes soapy due to a genome. It sounds like something similar is happening to you, except that cocoa improves flavors for you.

7788445511220011

I couldn't tell you beyond speculation. I am a guy who can appreciate some bitterness and don't like tons of sweetness. I prefer my chocolate dark, and my coffee black and unsweetened. But for something like a smoothie with tons of greens, or plain oatmeal, I do need *some* sweetness. But if I add chocolatey flavor from cacao powder, it just ends up with a flavor profile tasty enough that I don't need to mask it with much sweetness. I believe I have the same genetic cilantro issue, it's pretty gross to me and ruins things. (I suspect there's a similar issue with avocado. I have a hard time believing that people who enjoy it are tasting anything like what I am tasting. To me it tastes like rotten grass.)

S3-000

> (I suspect there's a similar issue with avocado. I have a hard time believing that people who enjoy it are tasting anything like what I am tasting. To me it tastes like rotten grass.) I can tell you with 100% certainty that avocado does not taste like rotten grass to me.

wcbjr

Terry loves his cacao nibs!

majxover

It’s great in a cup of coffee.

DaddyAmerica1776

I just ate a Hershey bar with almonds, its milk chocolate but, yeah. Id love to try a dark chocolate version.

1miker

They have them they are delicious! I get them at Walmart. I'm Crohns patient and can have limited dark chocolate.

DaddyAmerica1776

Im sorry to hear that. Some there is dark chocolate with almonds???

kidra31r

Only problem is it's gross.

TNGJ

And cockroaches. Typically about 8 insect pieces inside every chocolate bar. According to FDA guidelines, this is a safe amount, and the only way to combat the problem is to add more pesticides, which would be worse than eating cockroaches.N

303uru

Ain’t nothing wrong with eating bugs, should probably get used to it anyway.

TNGJ

Allergies on chitin for some

dejuanferlerken

All I heard was win win.

Roxytumbler

This is like apples. While a student I had a part time job in a canning plant one harvest. Apples inspected…3 maggots was the acceptable number per apple. Usually the number of maggots higher but inspectors weren’t that fussy as community depended on the industry. Also, there was no health issue with maggots…just the heebie -jeebie impact on consumers if they knew. The maggots are hard to recognize if you don’t know what to look for….and no added flavour.

passinghere

> According to FDA guidelines, That's USA chocolate, not the same as the rest of the world eats, here in the UK I wouldn't even class the USA's idea of chocolate as real chocolate anyway

Zjoee

I live in the US and I would love to get some European chocolate. When I was little, my dad had a friend that was dating a German lady. She would always bring me back German and Swiss chocolate whenever she went home to Germany.

WhaleOilBeefHooked2

I wish it was as accessible as milk chocolate at convenience stores. I’m lactose intolerant now and can’t do milk stuff anymore.

7788445511220011

Maybe not convenience stores but they're in every grocery store I've been in for a long time now. Fwiw I've not really been in small town or rural grocers so it might be different, idk.

rapcoz2134

just order in bulk from like amazon or walmart or something ?

S3-000

I've ordered chocolate from Amazon and had it show up completely melted. So YMMV

Fiber? In chocolate? Huerr?

wokka7

It has a shitload of calories though. Not great if you're trying to lose weight. 1oz is 170 calories

bourbon_neatplz

Mine also has THC, so once eaten even more reasons to stay home!

Here in San Diego some [chocolate bars come with magic mushrooms](https://www.reddit.com/r/sandiego/comments/ptois0/i_love_obs_flea_markets/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) apparently.

bourbon_neatplz

Not sure I'm ready for that

aiandi

I tried it once, felt nauseous, then decided to make a pizza from scratch, dough and all. Kind of a meh experience but the pizza was delish and I'm told the type & quality of shrooms makes a big difference in your "journey".

kinbeat

And other lies you tell yourself to justify eating chocolate. Coming from someone who regularly eats 90% dark chocolate. Because it tastes good, and that's it.

captainvancouver

Not only that! It also causes diabetes and tooth decay. Plus, you'll get fat!

ParaTerran

It also tastes so bad it makes you question how much chocolate you're eating

Sredni_Vashtar82

But it tastes like shit.

Slideover71

Yum🍫

GammaGoose85

They are most likely talking about straight up cacao, you can buy the nibs or powder off amazon. I buy the nibs and they are 100% not sweet and mostly bitter. I usually chew them to get a boost of caffeine and have food processed them down to a paste to make chocolate or cacao drink but it takes forever and is hard on the processor.

sangunpark1

i was thinking the same thing, sure dark chocolate is good for you but i can't see it having much fiber lmao like

aFiachra

It is all these things in moderation. Too much and you just overload your system with sugar.

Sapphrex

Then why does it have to taste so vile

Turbulent-Use7253

But tastes awful... imo...lol

prjindigo

Only if you're malnourished and you get the one that doesn't have milk in it at all.

kombatunit

I will just assume milk chocolate confers at least 50% of those benefits.

rddman

Chocolate industry up to their usual stealth advertising.
