This really makes it sound like Ivacic and Sulte are the plan. I guess if not now, when?

Jolandia

He says “The new keeper*s* will have to step up” so I imagine there will be at least one new keeper signed. Sulte will most likely be playing with T2 He also said “we’ll see how people react to the plan” so it might not be the most popular plan. We might be going with Ivacic

baddack8

I really hope not, but it's starting to sound more and more like this is the case.

I think at this point Farley kinda already essentially said we're singing Bingham and letting him and Ivacic duke it out. It's in a back and forth with Rifer and some other dude on twitter. Basically someone said "I think [today' signing] is Bingham, somebody else responded with Farley's tweet about today's signing not being Bingham. Rifer responded with "He said TODAY'S signing is not Bingham" and Farley responded with a 🎯.

PeterOliver

Just saw all that also and yep, seems to be the plan unfortunately.

paetin

I like to see organizations give players their shot. Ivacic is 27, been backing up Steve and played well in some games. Shellacking against Seattle is the only performance I saw that was clearly bad, and that whole game was rough across the board. If he is gonna be a MLS starter this is his chance to prove it and I would be glad if the Timbers gave him that chance

crumbshots4life

My problem is that he wasn’t just bad in that game, he quit. I remember watching him not even try when it got bad. Having a shit game happens, quitting shouldn’t at that level.

paetin

Fair point, but everyone quit in that game except for Diego Chara because there is no quit in that man. Hence why he is the best

db0606

Tbh... Like 3-4 of Seattle's goals were really flukey.

A Farley tweet in that thread says: > “Two contract extensions basically done” As of December 12 we were (according to [MLS](https://www.timbers.com/news/timbers-announce-roster-status-ahead-of-2022-mls-season)) in contract discussions with only Blanco, Clark, Ivacic, and Van Rankin, also noting that Zambrano was out of contract. So Ivacic and Zambrano then?

Extension_Crow_7891

Zambrano has already left town. His family moved.

https://twitter.com/chrisrifer/status/1481045644043165696?s=21 This makes it seem like th answer is Ivacic and Bingham

ClayKavalier

"Contract extensions" is vague. That would mean a player already under contract, not a player renewing their contract? Farley is sufficiently incoherent that he could mean re-signing rather than extending but I'm betting this is less interesting than keeping Blanco, Van Rankin, or even Ivacic. There are several players with contracts ending in 2022. Paredes seems like the most obvious choice for an extension. I don't know if extending Zuparic, Polo, Fochive, Loria, Bodily, or McGraw would be priorities at this point. I'm also not sure if the contract status I'm looking at includes possible team option years.

peacefinder

“The Timbers picked up the contract options on Diego Chara, Dario Zuparic, Cristhian Paredes, Andy Polo, Marvin Loría, Blake Bodily and Zac McGraw.” - from [MLS](https://www.timbers.com/news/timbers-announce-roster-status-ahead-of-2022-mls-season)

ClayKavalier

That is just picking up their contract options, which is usually 1 year. It isn't the same as an extension and, since their options were picked up, would not be a re-signing. Am I confused?

peacefinder

… beats me! Good point, I thought I knew what that meant but maybe not. Edit: though that link seems to be pretty clear about who is definitely on the roster for 2022 barring trades like Valeri.

ClayKavalier

Yeah, sometimes they might pick up a contract option so they can retain their rights to sell or trade. I don't know how often that has happened. I expect all of those players mentioned to be on the team in 2022 tough. It would not surprise me if Polo, Loria, Bodily, or McGraw were moved in the summer transfer window or released after next season. Loria showed some promise and Polo was looking better in a more central role. I haven't seen enough of McGraw to have an opinion but expect he'll be with whatever T2 is called next season. We may as well keep Bodily another year. He's cheap, maybe effectively free, as a HG player, especially if he's at "T2" the entire season. I think a contract extension might make sense for Diego Chara, Zuparic, or Paredes but it could be another player not in the article because they are already under contract for more than their option year. I haven't looked into or really thought about who that might be though. I just get frustrated that Farley gets paid to communicate poorly. M

peacefinder

Farley’s writing is sort of in the Melano camp. I want to like it and it has potential, but the end product is not great.

ClayKavalier

Yeah, I fully appreciate that he's trying to write with some flare. He's just bad at it and not appropriately humble and self-aware of that fact. So, yeah...Melano is a pretty perfect metaphor haha.

Jolandia

Considering Richard is just giving us info for free, I’m not gonna complain

BethanyRob

What, no complaints? Aren't you a Timbers fan??

ClayKavalier

I appreciate that. I often complain more about how Farley communicates than what he communicates.

paetin

What puts him in a position to know these things? Would he get in trouble for leaking info?

ClayKavalier

He's a Timbers employee. So, basically their press release guy. He would get in trouble if he leaked info and probably if he were objectively critical about anything.
