Nice. I like what I'm seeing on his [college highlight reel from UNC](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeukHPS6JkY). 6'4", good in the air, calm in front of goal, and good hold-up and dribbling skills. Might be very promising.

playoffasprilla

Everyone wanted a keeper & after watching this, he looks like a keeper to me.

U1tramadn3ss

That header at 42s is incredible

ModusPwnins

Unreal that the keeper even got a hand to it that fast...but it wasn't enough

U1tramadn3ss

Facts

SteveBartmanIncident

I'm stoked about his future. Thx for the highlights!

8th_Dynasty

my biggest takeaway is that UNC has a pretty nice complex.

Animastarara

It looks almost exactly like the MLS is back stadium

8th_Dynasty

those Disney practice fields with “green screens” wrapped around them…? Nah. watch that highlight video again, UNC had a nice brick wall border with a wall of accomplishments and individual seating. it was dialed in.

Raxnor

Someone good in the box would be critical. Can't remember the last time we looked solid looking for headers off a corner.

joshing_slocum

We had the 3rd most headed goals in the league this year with 13, trailing only Colorado and Vancouver with 15 apiece.

Raxnor

Fair enough.

db0606

Wonder how many of those were off corners and how that compares to other teams? It seems like Mora got like 4 or 5 headers off the run of play.

XCJibboo

Mora had the golden head!

Jolandia

Not what I thought we were gonna do but I’m happy about this! Always excited to have another homegrown on the team, low salary depth piece at a position we have two great options at, so it seems logical. He’s only 18 but has been around the first team during preseasons in the past so he should fit right in. Adding another forward gives us flexibility to play two strikers up front (meaning that we can play two up front and still have one on the bench, which is preferable, tho this probably won’t happen) and gives us cover in case one of our strikers gets injured, which is a very likely possibility with Niezgoda. I thought he was older, maybe early twenties like Bodily, so my initial reaction wasn’t great, but him being 18 with a decent amount of experience already is great Also, I remember last season in that Larrys Mabiala Unfiltered video thing, Tega was saying he would beat everyone on the team in a 100 meter race, so hopefully he’s got some speed

Inner-Conclusion

Pretty wild that more than half our homegrown signings in our entire MLS era are currently on the active roster, but it's only a good thing since we're often criticized for not producing/nurturing local talents. Other than Williamson, they'll probably spend a good chunk of time at our MLS Next Pro team. * Brent Richards (RB) | 2012-2013, 2015–2016 at T2 * BEFORE: Timbers U23 * AFTER: Free transfer to Reno 1868 (USL) * Steven Evans (MF) | 2013-2014, 2015 at T2 * BEFORE: Timbers U23 * AFTER: Retired? * Marco Farfan (LB) | 2016-2020 * BEFORE: Academy & T2 * AFTER: Traded to LAFC for 300k GAM * **Eryk Williamson (MF) | 2018-** * BEFORE: D.C. United Academy * Rights acquired for 100K GAM, 100k TAM, a second-round draft pick, and an int'l slot * **Blake Bodily (LW) | 2020-** * BEFORE: Academy & T2 * **Hunter Sulte (GK) | 2021-** * BEFORE: Academy & T2 * **Tega Ikoba (FW) | 2022-** * BEFORE: Academy & T2

db0606

And there's Loria who also came up through T2 (technically not gone grown, I know, but close).

GlasgowSpider

OMG! This is huge!

GlasgowSpider

isn't it?

db0606

Yeah, 6'4" and 200 lbs...

CommonSensePDX

Man, we have a fucking salty ass batch of fans for being one of the most successful teams in the league since 2015. Sorry we didn't sign Messi today, boys, maybe tomorrow.

NewRCTID22

Receipts will be kept for anybody who complains that this signing isn't big enough and also complains we don't sign Academy players.

Jolandia

People feeling a little blue balled from Farley saying we were signing someone today, though I thought this is about the caliber of signing we were all expecting

NewRCTID22

I get it. But people also need to understand that GW/NG are not idiots, despite what people think, and additions will happen over the next two months or so. The FO has dropped the ball in resorting to solely using their in-house media shill to drop rumors and disseminate news, but this fanbase needs to exhibit a bit more patience re: signings.

Jolandia

Oh yeah, I have faith moves will be made, just gotta wait for that Blanco situation to sort out first most likely

duganda

They're not idiots but they are by no means perfect either and there is a middle ground where they can both be credited with their successes and criticized for their failures.

NewRCTID22

In my comment above, I criticized them for a failure. But for a team that has been to a cup final 4 times in the last half-decade or so, this fanbase leans far too heavily towards the criticism end of the scale.

duganda

Objectively I can’t disagree with you. Subjectively it often feels to me like the team’s success is in spite of and not because of the FO. Like we could be even better.

NewRCTID22

I agree to an extent, but I think part of that is injuries and some is coaching too. Gio made some massive mistakes the past couple years. That said, the FO is about to bungle the GK situation badly imo. Clark got more money from Houston, such is life, but Ivacic/Bingham/Sulte is going to be a massive downgrade. Guess we'll find out.

terrorllama

They signed a relatively unproven striker, with an extensive injury history, to a DP contract! HTF is that not a failure or stupid move?

duganda

Oh I’m talking about separate from coaching and injuries.

ClayKavalier

This is actually better than I expected lol.

ClayKavalier

To be clear, I didn't think we'd announce a bad signing today. I just figured it would be a presumably reliable depth piece to meet a basic need rather than an urgent or long-term one. So, a development prospect is relatively exciting.

Jolandia

I agree

RCTID1975

What makes it even funnier is that a lot of these people are the ones that would be happy to see Mattocks back, or literally any other player that didn't do much.

foolinthezoo

Having this sub GM by committee would be a very funny and very disastrous experiment

FireballHangover

If the FO doesn’t build a time machine, go back in time and recruit prime MSN from Barcelona, they have failed in my eyes.

chaandra

It’s certainly not unique to us, but man can our victim complex be strong at times.

ModusPwnins

Listed as a forward. Really need to train up a young number 10, though maybe they'll try to play him there. He's from Alabama! ECP/Yellowhammer Infantry represent!

ClayKavalier

We aren't going to train up a 10. We don't have the resources or culture for that. We are going to have to go shopping. The club has said as much repeatedly.

db0606

Dude is 6'4", 200 lbs. If we're playing him it will not be at the 10.

ModusPwnins

Good call. A new Adi or Asprilla in the making.

RCTID1975

Eh, He's homegrown, so costs pretty much nothing. You basically sign any homegrown that you think can be a professional level player. No matter what position they play.

TucsonPTFC

A bit of a log Jan up from but I’m hoping he gets a few first team minutes as well as a starting role now that T2 will be happening this year. Really hoping he develops well - been a fan of Tega for a couple seasons now.

Jolandia

Should have three strikers on the roster in case one gets injured, so using a homegrown as a depth piece there is a good choice

SteveBartmanIncident

I like the kid... But if this is the internal signing/resigning Farley teased yesterday, I am disappointed. Unless he can also play keeper.

ixodioxi

This is probably the signing portion but not the resigning portion yet.

ClayKavalier

I can't imagine we'll make more than one announcement per day. Kind of good to let Tego get a happy moment.

SteveBartmanIncident

I got the impression it was either/or, not and. Happy to be wrong if I am

Jolandia

He said a signing today (Ikoba), *at least* one resigning this week, and keeper announcements “soon”

ixodioxi

He posted two tweets so it's should be both.

BroadStreetBridge

His highlight reel looks like what Fanendo Adi imagines he looks like

rctid2000

That’s it??

NewRCTID22

I wouldn't expect external signing news until the Blanco ordeal gets resolved. The budget can't be determined until there is a resolution, and Ikoba doesn't hit the budget.

peacefinder

Making the Valeri transfer official will also free up a bunch of salary budget, so perhaps that could break the log jam.

RCTID1975

I wouldn't expect much after Valeri is handled. Everything really rides on Blanco. If he doesn't re-sign, that really changes the dynamic as to what level players (and how many) can be signed. Valeri leaving really only frees up money.

Nanothequex

Rifer tweeted that the CBA was altered twice meaning we have less AM than expected. Signing players that want a higher wage will be difficult with our new cap.

PeterOliver

I had a similar thought. He does seem to have a ton of potential though.

RodeoLoveGods

Exactly my reaction.

Friendly-Educator498

Lollololol ok

rosecityreds84

Does no one in the front office care that we have no keepers? No starting keepers anyway

Jolandia

[Keeper announcements are coming, be patient ](https://twitter.com/richardfarley/status/1480716765919277056?s=21)

rosecityreds84

Patience in the off season?! I do not know this word 😂

Jolandia

Lol fair enough

RCTID1975

Agreed. It's such a sad time that it's impossible to do more than one thing at a time. Come on now....
