If I had to choose between just those two, I’d take JCVR. I wouldn’t mind seeing Alvas back as depth but I doubt it’d make financial sense.

Jolandia

Van Rankin easy, he’s not top notch but there’s a reason Powell has been jumping from team to team. He’s nothing more than a second, maybe third option RB, as much as I actually like him

FireballHangover

People that are nostalgic for Powell forget how braindead he could be when it came to actually defending. He was fast as fuck and crossed the ball in to nobody, and yes, while JCVR still has the occasional brainfart, I would take him 10/10 times over Powell.

RCTID1975

> People that are nostalgic for Powell forget how braindead he could be when it came to actually defending. Right? There's a reason he only lasts (at most) a season at a team before being cut.

joshing_slocum

> braindead Exactly. All athleticism, no understanding.

SteveBartmanIncident

JCVR by a country mile. Maybe bring Alvas back if Charlotte takes Bonilla tomorrow.

jarekniezgodafanpage

Neither, let’s go get Moreira back

PNWkiter

Moreira and Bravo on the same pitch would be incredible.

frostysole

And Keep JCVR as a sub for Moreira.

db0606

Moreira is a free agent right now and has not been signed to a club since July, so I imagine we could get him on the cheap, but he is also 31 and coming out of knee surgery. Apparently he got [some offers from MLS teams](https://lapaginamillonaria.com/riverplate/Ex-River-Que-es-de-la-vida-de-Jorge-Moreira-20211013-0011.html) when his contract ended with River Plate but decided they weren't good enough.

pnwboi1998

I like JCVR, I know he had some bad mistakes that cost the team games, but he was someone who we played every game. I feel like often times he was the scapegoat for defensive breakdowns. Bar any injuries to the outside backs I like bravo and JCVR with Bonilla rotating in

buttsbutnotbuts

I love Alvas, but definitely Van Rankin. He made some really poor decisions at times this year, but I think his average performance is much better than Alvas. Side note, during the final my wife commented that JCVR looks like a standard issue b movie villain and now I can’t unsee it. I really want him to have a post MLS career as a straight to video movie bad guy.

RCTID1975

I'd prefer neither. Powell isn't good. Some of y'all are so hung up on nostalgia with a lot of players.

rzle

Josecarlos for sure. There would be a certain nostalgia in Alvas returning, but JCVR is better than a lot of people seem to give him credit for. Our lack of fullback depth forced him to play a lot more than he should have and he got burned out.

RCTID1975

> JCVR is better than a lot of people seem to give him credit for. That may be true, but it also doesn't mean he's good. IMO, we should be aggressively looking for a replacement

joshing_slocum

Alvas Powell is beyond awful. GTFO

PNWkiter

JCVR will be back for the right price. He's an above average MLS fullback playing the right side which is oddly enough in low supply.
