Beautiful beast with yoke steering wheel! #teslamodels
By - Signature-move
the back screen showing media while parked is a bit weird. easy software fix i guess.
I was confused too, good catch!
Screen was probably on because the rear door was open to take the picture.
Looks to me like it’s a picture through the window
The dashboard was on too
Yeah you’re right, sentry mode appears to be active. Definitely seems to be a bug.
Man that front license plate bracket really looks so bulky on the front.
I’m not putting one on mine. No way in hell.
Oof yeah honestly looks terrible
I hope that is removable
I use suction cup mount while parking downtown. Highway driving, no front license plate.
Can get a sticker plate in CA
Whats with the missing trim in the back seat?
Oof that dark wood looks so good, looks like the screen is tilted in second photo too, hopefully they release that by the time LR cars deliver
The rear seats look perforated, does that mean they are ventilated as well?
they don’t have the airflow from the AC system like the front does, just perforated.
Not sure, but it is a good guess.
Nice ride! The black interior is so yawn inducing though.
I like the black interior a lot. It is super minimalist and low-key.
Red seats would be amazing.
Or stitching to match the cars exterior. Blue, Red, White at least.
This is because the pictures are poor quality. Lighting is washing out the subtle differences in textures, form, and color. IMHO it's really sleek and interesting if you look at it in person, or with HD picture/video.
That’s a great point. I still wouldn’t order the black, but it’s certainly not in its finest form here.
This is the first one I've seen with the black & wood interior.
Is this forsure the darker wood? Looks way darker on the tesla website
It's my first time see the car in real life instead of pictures.
Yoke steering still looks and feels awkward as hell for a daily city car. Waiting for the downvotes
Waiting for the downvotes? You do realize that everyone hates the yoke, especially in here?
I agree. I haven’t seen one or tried it, but it looks awkward as hell.
It really doesn't make any sense. Someone posted a video of it actually being used the other day and it looked so awful to use. Then someone tried talking about how it's meant to be used by someone who primarily used autopilot/FSD but even then it's stupid because you need to take over in very sudden situations or situations that require finesse, in which case the yoke wheel makes it so much more dangerous.
I really can't think of a single reason why it's better, aside from it "looking cool." At the very least make it optional.
I've also seen videos of users commenting how it was awkward for first day but then quite easy to use. It's like anything else, change is difficult, and then it's normal.
I'm not arguing that it can't be adapted to. I'm just saying that it's more dangerous and doesn't actually add any significant benefit that I can see.
If it were dangerous, or more dangerous, I don't think regulators would have allowed it.
Did you know big auto originally argued that seatbelts were more dangerous than not having them. The reason was they didn't want to cut into their profits by adding more safety features. [https://www.wpr.org/surprisingly-controversial-history-seat-belts](https://www.wpr.org/surprisingly-controversial-history-seat-belts)
I guess you could argue Tesla is generating more profits by offering less steering wheel :P ::Kidding::
If there were no benefit, I don't think formula racing would have adopted yoke steering. Low speed driving (parking lots, U-turns, 3-point turns) where the yoke is more awkward has low risk of injury. High speed driving where the yoke excels is where there is great danger of injury.
You're making some weird arguments. You're saying that regulators wouldn't have approved it if it weren't safe, and then immediately pointing out how regulators once disapproved of seatbelts. You're also referring to Formula One cars as if they use the safest parts when in reality it's a notoriously dangerous sport. And I'm not saying the yoke is outright dangerous, I'm just saying it's significantly more dangerous than a normal wheel.
No, regulators didn't disapprove of seatbelts, the auto manufacturers did. Regulators forced the issue.
I keep hearing Tesla will offer a standard wheel as an option soon, so hopefully that will take care of that.
I don’t think you’re going to get downvoted. I think it’s a horrific decision by Tesla to make those standard. I can see if they made them optional for people who are doing FSD. If they end up on the Y in another year or so when I’m ready to buy then I’ll be off Tesla altogether and look elsewhere for an EV. I have no interest in that stupid steering wheel.
I'm not sure I even understand how they work. Does the sensitivity increase the further you turn it? Or do you actually spin the whole thing around?
You spin it just like a normal wheel except the top is missing and the stalk controls are on it so it’s super akward and potentially unsafe.
Well that sounds terrible.
> Does the sensitivity increase the further you turn it?
that is how this is supposed to work but Tesla didnt add any of that sadly, its a fixed steering ratio.
Toyota is also planning to release their Bz4x with a [yolk steering wheel](https://insideevs.com/news/501835/toyota-bz4x-yoke-steering-wheel/) with steer by wire.
“Toyota’s explanation as to why it also changed the steering wheel for a yoke with the steer-by-wire is simple: with the system, that no longer has a physical connection between the helm and the wheels, the driver will need to apply a lot less lock to make the car to turn, thus eliminating the need to take their hands off the steering wheel when negotiating tighter turns.”
Yoke is one step away from a video game controller. WHY DOES NOBODY SEE THAT
Put a few buttons back there and some thumb joysticks…. PS5 or N64 or Xbox on the road baby!
Oh, plenty of people have seen that. Now spin your controller 230° and press X (horn) because some idiot didn't see you.
> press X (horn)
And don’t forget, no tactical buttons, just touch pads…
Fanatec would like a word.
[Fanatec BMW M4 GT3 wheel ](https://youtu.be/PFZVFsRJI0U)
How many times have the words “awkward as hell” been used to describe the yoke? You’re beating a dead horse. Like everything in life there will be a learning period for your brain to adjust to the new thing. After that, it will feel completely natural. Personally, I’m excited to try it.
I'm a Tesla fan, but I've been driving my 3 around trying to only use the sides of the wheel...it's not easy. I think we'll see a round wheel eventually.
Does anyone know if those license plate brackets are on every car? Or only those in states which require a front plate? I don’t think I’ve seen any pictures of delivered Plaid’s besides the ones from the event. Praying the answer is no!
Speaking from my experience as a Model 3 owner. Tesla provided the front license bracket with double sided tape for me to install if I wanted but it wasn't installed by default.
It really sucks that the front plate holder is built in there. Fucking ugly.
Just thinking that
I can't get enough of that new interior ........SHEESH
Nice Job Tesla!
Loving the blue
Best car ever!
Hah Dublin Service Center?
It must’ve been nice and toasty out there today.
102 degree is no joke!
Tomorrow will be hotter.
Not even yoking
I was there a couple weeks ago. I stared at that damn Golf Mart sign for a good 10 minutes before my Uber finally showed up. I really wish they were more generous with their loaner vehicles.
It's a hyper upgraded s... Not a roadster.
Even the base S is too much for that interior imo. It needs something like the eqs interior.
> I know these are basically $20k - $40k cars
The door trim and B pillar trim don’t line up very well, and the center console looks pretty bulky. Also, one of the advantages of the Model 3/Y dash versus the majority of automobiles is how low the dash sits relative to the driver, giving you really excellent forward visibility. Here it seems the dash rises higher, probably due to the fact that this is a refresh and not designed from scratch. I think the Model 3/Y interiors still have some advantages despite the extra features you get on the S/X refresh.
However, The new interior look truly refreshed the outdated S&X design though.
That notebook and pen means it’s an employee who’s been using it, definitely not a customer car. People are quick to freak lol
Also the guy's Tesla business card is literally sitting in the phone cradle.
Exactly, it's literally a manufacturer’s car for one of their engineers to test. The first comment that I wasn't so sure if it belongs to one of their engineer or the manufacturer's car. But I realize there is “MFG” on the license plate, which means it does not belong to any Tesla’s customer out there.
Anyway, they really made a very stunning interior. What a refreshing!😉
Wood interior isn't available in Plaid in Canada 🤦♂️
Is the rear legroom really that bad? Or is it just the angle?
Just the angle, the rear legroom looks quite roomy.
Even the 3 isn’t bad so this should be perfectly fine.
My Y's rear leg room is massive, even with the front seat stretched out.
I don't care how awkward it is, or how I'm apparently the only one who likes it.
I would punch my last living grand parent in the mouth for a yoke on my model 3.
what exactly do you think a yoke would add to the car?
all it does is remove the top part of the wheel so now you cant grab that part when turning, what exactly do you think you are gaining here?
Bolt an iPad to the dash and call it designed. I wish other manufacturers didn’t follow this horrible “design”. Can we at least put some effort into the interior. Ready for my beat down!!!
This is why I hate the new 2021 S class. The old one from 2014 till 2020 was so classy and timeless. The EQS interior looks better though.
Yeah. Why the premium brands follow this ridiculous dash layout is awful. Bring back the beautiful Audi cockpit of the past. I just wanna rip those iPads off their perch.
Looks like some rear interior trim is missing and there are panel gap issues on the frunk. Probably a test vehicle rather than a delivery.
It looks like a manufacturer’s testing car though.
Yes I agree.
I like a Model S refresh as much as the next guy but I would be pissed if some rando was putting their phone on the glass of my $129k car to get photos for internet points.
These vehicles are being delivered to paying customers now.
Unless you have permission, don‘t do this.
What if you drop your phone and ding the door or scratch the trim? What if your bag or purse hits the door when you’re leaning over? Too easy to damage someone else‘s property. Just don’t.
Chill man, it's a manufacturer’s car.
You literally don’t even know that and just commented to someone else that it “looks” like it might be.
Man, I don't want to argue with you. So let me make the story straight. There is a supercharger next to the service center. I was there for supercharging my car, by the meantime, I went to the service center asking for more details of the refreshing Model S, one of the employees told me they hadn't received any show car yet, but one of their engineers just got one, feel free to take a look. The car has a license plate with MFG by the side of the license numbers. I commended “like a manufacturer’s” to others because I got confused by the employee who said their engineer “got” one, but the “MFG” on the plate.
Btw, I got permission from the official employee who works at Tesla, to see the car. I didn't touch the car at all, as long as you find a good angle and utilize your body shade, you can get most of the reflection out. Photo shooting 101 for you, you're welcome.
It’s missing trim in the rear seats. It’s probably manufacturer car
I agree it “probably” is but that’s different than saying it definitively…and either way OP wouldn’t know until getting up close to take pictures of the insides of someone else’s car anyway, which I maintain is invasive and totally unnecessary for a car we’ve already seen so much of.
I agree with them and at this point there really isn’t any reason or need to take up-close pictures of the interior of someone else’s Model S. We’ve all seen the refresh several times and this is honestly a little invasive.
Would you like to speak with the manager
Is that always your self-defense for being called out? Phew, sure showed me.
Stay pressed 🥰
Drawback of having a hot car.
Drawback of people succumbing to their primal “shiny. me like.” instincts and lacking respect and consideration for others.
If you don’t like this you don’t need to stay in this thread 🤷🏻♂️
lol came to say this
That PR🔺️ND under the wireless charger is definitely interesting!
Oh man, I didn't notice that the gear change is down there! Good sight!
Lol I was actively looking for it since I saw an article about the predictive gear select.
I doubt that the predictive gear selection would work very well, a nice concept, though. Then I saw the picture has the gear selection on the left edge of the center screen, which you can swipe up and down to select the gear, which makes more sense to me. So I didn't bother to find the physical gear selection on the car. LOL
It's crazy stuff! But technically if we are to EVER have self driving vehicles then predictive gear selection has to be figured out. 🤔
So true! At that point, the entire automobile industry will have a qualitative leap. There is no doubt that Tesla will be the bell-weather again.
That’s the way it is on the production vehicles.
I know. It's just an interesting feature to point out for how novel it is.
Ah yeah, I agree. I think it mainly has to do with the fact that the touchscreen could still potentially bug out so it’s important to have redundancy.
100% correct. Or...at least that was the reason given in the article I read about it. It begs the question though...will the CT have something like this? And if it does...it technically couldn't go on the armrest seat since you aren't guaranteed to have access to it at all times. This is why I hope we will get the steering wheel from Tesla's patent. With the gear selection going vertically down the center of the wheel
How cam you drive that like a gansta.. so lame
Carpeted and alcantara B-Pillar? Dope!
This is the first time I actually noticed they have the license plate area made into the front fascia. I happily take the risk of no front plate here in WA for the clean look.
what is beautiful right here? this is an ugly-grey plain looking car interior. dog I hate that 'black' interior that is slate from the 90's...when are yawl gonna get over it?
The white or tan colors would have been such a nicer interior color - and Beemer has the best color interiors.
Hey buddy, everyone has their own taste and different aesthetic. I admit that German cars have much better interior design, and they have more twists on details. Anyway, I'm glad to have your thoughts here.
I’m more impressed with the Tesla moleskin. Where’d that come from?
When did you order? Is that plaid or Lr?
It's the manufacturer's car. I saw it at the service center.
Interesting that the back seat monitor is on with sentry mode on
Is this the darker wood? I expected it to be darker based on the photos on tesla website
I'm not sure, but it seems like the wood is as light as the one that on the black/white and cream leather trims. Maybe because the rendering picture has a chromatic difference?
I feel like the one of the reasons why I want a Model S, is the fact that I\`s know people would walk up to my car and take pictures of the inside up close. Also, if I had a Model S people would be doing this. I wish I had a Model S.
