wiffer12

omg Karolina ❤️‍🔥 bummed for Saba but she will be back for sure

Metallicer

Iga is hurt oh no...

CivilRico

Glad Muchova won just to not hear Sabalenka’s grunt. It’s ridiculous that her grunt is still going on while the opponent is about to hit the ball. Should be hinderance. Hard to watch matches with ridiculous grunts. Same goes for the men, but fewer men have these ridiculously loud and long grunts.

WetworkOrange

What's just as annoying is her fans get mad when you point it out.

Metallicer

Her and Hada Maias grunt seem a bit unrealistic to just be releasing of air. Almost seems overreacting on their part

OddsTipsAndPicks

Phenomenal shot to keep from setting Swiatek up for an easy winner off that killer return

Tracy140

Could be that two players who left in boots last year can raise trophies this year

Tracy140

Muchova choked first - she was up a set and a break - should have won in straight sets

Cardplay3r

Don't ask this one what choking is

aweap

A choke happens while serving for a set/match.

Tracy140

No a choke happens when you are in a winning position and totally lose the script - sabalenka didn’t really choke she fell into a not so old pattern -

aweap

I agree choke can happen at any point but Muchova and Sabalenka were breaking each other repeatedly here. Just being a break up at the beginning of a set is no guarantee that you'd close the whole match. Also it's called a choke when a player starts making unforced errors (like Saba made at the end of the third set) to choke away the set, match, game whatever which is not what was happening in the second set. Saba was repeatedly hitting through Muchova's returns and accumulating large number of winners then.

Tracy140

What a win !!

da_SENtinel

Did Karo hit a winner on MP or Saba UE?

kohavi

Saba "forced" error

EffBO94

Awesome match from both. If we're being honest Sabalenka kinda gave it away at the end(that lost MP must've really got to her I guess)...but who cares, give it up for Muchova 👏🏿 just hope she's fresh to play her best against Iga (let's be real BHM is not beating her on clay lol). Looking forward to Saturday already, I'd love an Iga 3 peat but I'd love Muchova to win her first GS too Wonder what her ranking will be now

KingAggravating4939

She's up to #16 in the Live Rankings and #5 in the Live Race

da_SENtinel

Bia Iga will either be done in 1 hour or 4 hours!

da_SENtinel

Wasn't it 5-5 40-15 for Sabalenka before the DF's?

abzbendo

Y it was im shook lol

abzbendo

Even if she hit two DFs i was like shes gonna ace next serve guess i was wrong☠️☠️

Metallicer

yes

abzbendo

We have to respect Muchova bcs she did not give up being down 5-2 and was really solid on BPs but thats just a huge choke from sabalenka, the better player lost its the beauty and the sadness of sport…

-_-Moss-_-_

The mind is half the sport. The better mind won

fr_1_2806

What the fuk? I turned off at 5-2 when Muchova was struggling to hold. Fml after watching the whole match almost that too :(

da_SENtinel

I wonder if Sabalenka is a Spurs or Dortmund supporter?

cottoncandysedai

Both. Both is good

LadyDisdain555

I've been critical of Aryna for all the shrieking, but I can't imagine how she must be feeling after having let that match, and possibly the title, roll off her racquet like that. She must be heartbroken.

AussieAlexSummers

true, but in the big picture. Her year is going really well.

Big_booty_ho

I hope the next match is as entertaining but I doubt it will be now that Iga is playing with zero pressure.

bostonboy9486

She still needs to win, to stay as No.1.

SolarWind777

Who can predict Iga’s reaction to this game? Wrong answers only

rykotxet

Bravo Karolina! I'm glad you sent dictator's minion home.

vbstarr91

I'll be contrarian here and say Muchova winning and advancing to the final as an unseeded player isn't a great look for women's tennis. Women's tennis needs more sustained rivalries between the top players and missing a Swiatek-Sabalenka final is a major disappointment.

Trepur349

I mean if we want fewer upsets women need to switch to best of 5

GregorSamsaa

Muchova is a top player. Look at her performance at the slams the last few years. Coming back from injury and trying to get her ranking back up. If you watched that match just now and came away from it that “Muchova winning is a bad look for the women’s game” then your understanding of quality tennis is borderline nonexistent

vbstarr91

Muchova winning is a nice story, but a possible Sabalenka Swiatek final is just more compelling.

-_-Moss-_-_

I disagree, I’m more compelled by a David vs Goliath narrative

himalayanthro

i wudnt say u're being contrarian, imo u're seemingly just completely unaware of the WTA and real calibre of Muchova

vbstarr91

No, I've been aware of Muchova since 2020 when I watched her matches on TV during the pandemic US Open. I'm not completely unaware of WTA. Muchova is a nice story but a possible Sabalenka Swiatek final is just better.

cottoncandysedai

Counter point Muchova is a great player who is only unseeded because her body tends to give up on her. Also, good tennis is a good look for women’s tennis and Karolina can give us that.

vbstarr91

Muchova is a nice story but Sabalenka-Swiatek would draw viewers and advertisers, which is what the WTA really needs right now.

axman54

Iga would’ve 2-0’d her anyway, probably would’ve thrown a bagel in there too

LadyDisdain555

The original take was bad enough, and then there's this 🙄

Big_booty_ho

I don’t know what delusional world you live in but there’s no reality where Iga bagels Sabalenka right now

jeff_clax90

Could only catch the end so I hope I don't take anything away from Muchova. But its heartbreaking seeing Aryna have the match slip through her fingers. I thought her old self was forever buried after winning the AO. In any case incredible achievement for Muchova, hope she proves she deserves to be there and gives Iga or Bia a real fight!

nupristeen

what a match!!! congrats muchova!! 👏👏 so happy for her 🥹❤️

WhiteStephCurry

Muchova was a +2000 to win at one point there. Dang. What a swing

Optimal-Somewhere-46

It works fellas, slice and volley works 🫠🫠

jazzy8alex

Against Sabalenka it works great. Also drop shots. Sabalenka has almost non existing footwork outside the baseline - if she needs to move forward or backward she is always late. Lateral movement is good though.

glassopy

Tony Parker is a fortunate guy!

Jo__Jo__Jo

Think Sabalenka might have choked with the #1 and 2nd Slam on her mind

Sperrow8

And she is so confidence driven. When Sabalenka is playing badly, you (and her opponents) can immediately tell, so its easy to take advantage of that.

Pistefka

It was 100% about Muchova's quality, not Sabalenka "choking"

Jo__Jo__Jo

She did double fault twice on match point to then be broken... not sure Muchova can be credited for that, but she was amazing in getting the crucial points you're definitely right in the sense that she totally capitalised and hung in there even when everyone though she had lost

piccolo37

How can it be 100% with all those UEs from Sabalenka in the last 5 games

Pistefka

Ok, 98%. First Muchova had to win the first set and keep pkaying well in the third to make Sabalenka overhit.

starboys23

TAKE THAT COMMUNISM

silly_rabbit289

If iga loses in semis, who will be number 1?

porncornroz

Sabalenka

Goreteeth

Aryna

silly_rabbit289

Oh thanks

constant_variant_820

Yet another reason for Iga to win

rubbish_bin030121

Sadly Barty has no interesting in playing tennis after winning the AO. If Barty is here, WTA is definitely better than ATP now

Big_booty_ho

Well isn’t Muchova a doll. May she stay healthy and keep blessing the tour with her delightful game

[deleted]

[удалено]

cottoncandysedai

That wasn’t her that was Bouzkova

redmilk7

Oh fuck! My bad! Deleted my comment. Sorry for that, got super confused there

Parisny

Um what?

Big_booty_ho

What happened? I didn’t even know she played doubles this year

Verskose

This was an epic match! I am really happy Muchova won.

LadyDisdain555

Sania Mirza said before the match that she wanted Muchova to win but thought it would be Sabalenka in "two tight sets". She's been quietly pulling for Muchova for a while. 🥹🥹

aweap

Haven't we all?! ☺️

ggstan21

Now we have Iga trying to assert herself as the queen of RG and two players that saved match points. 1 of them will win this tournament and it will be a great story, no matter what happen.

NoleFandom

Winning after saving a match point is reminiscent of Justine Hénin in 2005.

manga_be

A victory for the entire free world

Peach_Cobblers

I didn't get to see the match, was that five straight games to Muchova in the third?

reddated

Yes.

Peach_Cobblers

wow!

aweap

Yup!

Peach_Cobblers

wow!

porncornroz

In last 24 points Sabalenka made 16 Unforced errors and 2 DF if my counting is right

youwon_jane

What a thriller! 100% deserved by Muchova for making this match memorable. Did have to laugh when someone brought Sabalenka a new racket in the last game, talk about rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic

Angelsdontkill_

5/5 break points won while her opponent won like 4 out of 20 is insane from Muchova

-Ketjow-

5/5 BPs lost is on Sabalenka for not being able to save some of those with her powerful serve +1 combo. But I agree re Mucha, she has been clutch af all day long.

Sperrow8

Great match. Don't know what the hell happened with Sabalenka at the end there, but Muchova capitalized.

Alex__de__Large

Muchova'a serving for the match and three dudes are on their cell phones in the front row not even watching.

aweap

Probably redditors ☺️

GregorSamsaa

Waiting for Iga lol

dasheeshblahzen

Another Czech player in the FO final in recent years: Muchova, Krejcikova, Vondrousova.

Sperrow8

Curious how much influence that Kvitova 2 slam win had. I know its a different court, but hard to say the parents of those players watching aren't at least going "huh...so its possible" and push their kids towards tennis.

SaraRF

If Iga wins the final will be a demolition

AlexanderUGA

I thought Muchová was gassed in the third, but she proved me wrong.

GregorSamsaa

She was, but so was Aryna. You could tell both of their legs were going out Muchova just held on a little bit longer and after Sabalenka couldn’t close it out, the tired legs along with the lost momentum really got to her

AnimusNoctis

Muchova seemed to get a second wind

constant_variant_820

For some reason I think Iga -haddad Maia is gonna be a 3set too

Nakori14

Lol 6-0 6-1

Trichoderma-Viride

BHM loves a marathon so I expect that too

Metallicer

Have the same feeling

blackb0xes

I couldn't have been more bummed out when she lost to Brady in the AO SF, so seeing Karolina make a slam final is insanely gratifying.

BattleshipCandy

Muchova's silent fighter spirit was beyond stunning for me. This girl is just amazing!

baddadjokesminusdad

The final will be a good one to watch. Kudos Muchova!

Lucky-Midway-4367

The biggest choke in the history of women's tennis.

bptkr13

It wasn’t a choke at all. Muchova raised her level. Sabalenka played well. Not perfect but we’ll.

glassopy

From another poster -> "In last 24 points Sabalenka made 16 Unforced errors and 2 DF if my counting is right"

Lucky-Midway-4367

Sabalenka started hitting everything out of the court, made low percentage decisions against a tired opponent, lost her head at the end. Complete choke.

glassopy

Absolutely

glassopy

Muchova didn't know what to say to Wilander when asked what happened because she couldn't say - "She choked"

GregorSamsaa

As much as the commentators calling Muchova tired, it was obvious Aryna was running out of gas too. There was some points before the collapse where you could see she wasn’t moving well, lost burst. I think she expected Muchova’s tiredness to help her close it out but Muchova hung in there and made her earn it and she couldn’t.

bptkr13

Yes. It was so annoying. Muchova was no more gassed then Sabalenka and kept fighting. They both fought hard.

cassrf

The girls in the second semifinal have to be happy now that whoever wins is the favorite for the final

Famous-Objective430

All muchova had to do for the last few games was to keep the ball in play and kudos to her for doing that. Self explosion at its best.

Chosen1gup

Impressive that a women’s SF thread has 2K+ comments. Granted 1K of those were about grunts but still, there used to be threads that were 200 comments

LushLoxx

People don't know what they're missing. I simply appreciate good tennis, the gender of the players is irrelevant.

constant_variant_820

Soooo Iga - Muchova?

Awilltobemerry

walkover from Haddad Maia?

zdrozda

What a comeback from Muchova in the third set. Mental giant!

Thelandoflambs

Karolina seems like a nice girl and her game is such a beauty. 10/10

Acrobatic_Machine

Omg had odds 8 on tiebreak in the 3rd set. So bloody close

ggstan21

Damn, this is gonna be brutal for Sabalenka. IDK if she will recover for Wimbledon. Hard to get over a loss like that and possibly losing the opportunity to become #1. Epic comeback by Muchova. Absolutely incredible! There are few players that deserves this more than her after everything she went through. This woman left this court on a wheelchair 1 year ago! Brilliant tennis and fight. Congrats Karolina!!

KingAggravating4939

I mean, she better get it together since she has a great chance to be #1 after Wimbledon as well.

[deleted]

Muchová played a very intelligent third set there. I don’t think Saba dropped her level much honestly. She played a bunch of really smart points and had some monster returns. Really played with a lot of pace changes to force the errors out of Saba. A performance to be proud of, for sure.

bostonboy9486

Now, please win Iga, so we can stay on No.1

Alex__de__Large

Why is that important?

curlyhairedyani

She didn’t have Muchova chance at 5-2 down it’s incredible she‘s done this 😭👍

nick170100

That honestly is up there for an all time WTA game

DanaiDampa

KARO😱😱😱 So deserving, what a talent she is, amazing!!!

gusfring05

Cocky hahahahah

Kule7

Maybe a bit of a mental collapse but I think honestly probably more of a physical collapse by Aryna. How often is she really playing three hour marathons like this?

MarvellousG

Bloody hell she was so mentally strong and calm on massive points, took all her breaks, saved 9, mentally huge honestly and looked so calm doing it

dejvipasco

Epic match. Three hours and twenty minutes.

eggoed

I am .... very happy about this result.

Nakori14

Rip sabalenka bettors

ExcuseYou-What

One of the worst versions of Sabalenka I've ever seen under pressure, honestly, but give Muchova's physio(s) and trainer(s) all the flowers. You would never believe she could survive this kind of scoreline just a few months ago. Stunning.

nick170100

I joined the thread late and sorted by top comments and everything is related to that sabalenka grunt Doesn’t surprise me at all

LushLoxx

I'm drained, and I've just sat on the sofa all afternoon 😆

rcspinster

Didn't get a chance to watch, but sabalenka was up 5 to 2 in the 3rd. What happened?

Gaarando

Yes 5-2 up in the 3rd. Went up 0-30 on Muchova's serve as well. Didn't break due to no clutch shots and also errors. Then in her service game she just hit 3 errors and gave the break for free when serving for the match. Then pretty easy hold for Muchova and then Sabalenka serving for 6-5 lead and was 40-15 and then hits 2 double faults for deuce and another error to set up break point. Just unbelievable choke, Muchova played a strong match but she didn't need to do much to get that victory. That was all choke.

Trichoderma-Viride

She was fantastic in the first 2 sets tho. 3rd I agree clear bottling it

Sebby997

Epic choke by Sabalenka. I'd say around 95% of points that she lost from 5-2 up were DFs and UE's.

unvrlstn

Man…..talk about a mental breakdown. Shocking for a player at her level.

porncornroz

Choked

Optimal-Somewhere-46

Really hope she can continue such performances. Such a breath of fresh air.

Zero_dimension98

Well, I said it during the match with Stephens, Sabalenka's A plan was crushing the ball for winners on clay, what does it matter if she can hit with topspin if she won't use it. At the end when the pressure was at its highest she continued risking even when Muchova was barely moving, hope she learns from this because it's one thing losing per your own flaws (say bad forehand or bad movement) but having the tools and using them incorrectly is terrible.

baddadjokesminusdad

It was a good atmosphere today, wasn’t it :)

SorcerousSinner

Wow. Muchova showed some resilience to get the win here

Nakori14

Saba is clearly the better player. This was disgusting

da_SENtinel

Haha take that L buddy. Ur player is a mental midget

KingAggravating4939

I don't agree, especially on clay. Muchova should be Top 10.

kahootmusicfor10hour

Why play the tournament at all if you just think the better ranked player should always win?

BattleshipCandy

Excuse me? Lmao

KF2015

Disgusting how? LOL

rubbish_bin030121

Accept it, Saba also won some matches because her opponents UEs the matches to her

Putrid_Loquat_4357

She lost.

Metallicer

By what was she the better player? She literally had the advantage so many times and she choked all of them. Deserved loss.

Angelsdontkill_

Boo hoo

Elonmuskishuman

Typical WTA choking there

Angelsdontkill_

Sabalenka didn't put up Muchova fight in the left few games

Trichoderma-Viride

What a privilege to be able to watch this game.

unmannedpuppet

Gutted for Sabby but so happy for Muchova. What a match from her. Hope she wins it all!

zxdfgyuiugf

Muchova held up so well at the end

bekkahthecactus18

That 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 scoreline is a wild one but it doesn’t even scratch the surface haha

fatblackheart

Has Muchová met Iga before?

jasonkochel

She has played Iga, but not 1ga

Bonoahx

Once in 2019, Muchova leads 1-0

Dkclinton

Yes once before…and won

francisstp

Sabalenka absolutely zvereved herself out of this match. Good on Muchova for hanging on tough.

Big_booty_ho

Sabalenka? I’m going to be SICK

A-dab

People say Muchova modeled her game after Federer but Sabalenka showed who's the bigger Federer fan

KF2015

So has Sabalenka won 20 GSs?

LadyDisdain555

💀💀

kaliroger

MUCHOVA IS AN ASSASSIN

tabrizzi

YES! YES!! YES!!!

oneordinaryorange

Oh my god my heart is so full for Muchova!!!! tried to type so many times during the match but feared I'd jinx it (as if it'd matter!). I'm in happy tears!

nick170100

To sleep or not to sleep is the question

legohotwing

Imagine being 2 points away from a Grand Slam and doing whatever Saba just did

aNN1MaL

1, she had match point

MarvellousG

From a final, not a GS, thankfully

kaliroger

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GODDD

GregorSamsaa

And all is right in the world

[deleted]

Next r/tennis post: Muchova won this match 2-5 30-40

andsoonandso

Well that was fucking insane

Districoftrees

Great mental strength by Muchova, well deserved! Sabalenka will be feeling this one for a long long time

Naiwf

She deserved the win since she handled the moment better. I just hope whatever was bothering her physically doesn’t make the Final one sided.

ModernaGang

WOW that was BRILLIANT
