I bought most of these things at the official Nintendo stores in Tokyo and Osaka. Akihabara is probably a great place to look, but the only thing I got from there was the inflatable octoling that came in the little blue ball, which is in those vending machines that are all over the country. The Switch I got from a place called Bic Camera, but you can probably find that anywhere in Japan at the same price. And the Amiibos I got from a store that’s under the Starbucks at Shibuya Crossing.
Place it upon a shrine, high atop a mountain. First I’ll buy a mountain. First I’ll need money… It’ll never happen…I’ve deluded myself…
Unless I steal the mountain….
I almost never see Splatoon anything in stores here in the US besides the game and amiibo. I can't imagine seeing so much Splatoon merch in one spot in person
It was awesome. I spent a solid hour just walking around the first Nintendo store I went to. My poor dad got in a big line to save my spot while I was finishing looking at stuff, and I still wasn’t done picking what I wanted.
I am so screwed when I go this year! I will buy everything and stress about storage space.
Plz, I want that small fry with Karen cut. You NEVER see it bc ppl hate that hair 😭😭
Credit card points. If you can manage a bunch of credit cards, like signing up for and cancelling them constantly, you get A LOT of points which add up to free or heavily discounted plane tickets and hotel stays.
I traveled to Tokyo in January and the smallfry toy was sold out just 2 DAYS before I visited the store. And I won't travel to Tokyo again at least in the next few years.
At least i got a biggg squid plushy
I can't wait to go to this shop, I'm going this week. I just have a question, do they accept cards? I don't like carrying cash, and how much was the switch?
Yup, they accept cards pretty much everywhere, except for small shops. The switch’s MSRP is 39000 yen, which is about $300, but you’ll end up paying less if you buy it in Japan if you go to a place that offers it tax free. Just know that if you need to get it repaired by Nintendo themselves, you’ll have to send it back to Japan, since that’s where the warranty is.
Right next to the Nintendo store there is a Pokémon Center and a couple other video game and anime related stores. So if Nintendo isn’t the only thing you’re interested in, you might wanna plan for a little extra time to walk around.
I'm there for 2weeks, so I plan to see a lot! Anywhere you recommend to go? We want to go to Nintendo land, but its 4hr train ride, have you been there, do you recommend going?
I’d definitely recommend it if you’re interested in Nintendo at all! However, I’d suggest planning a part of your trip around Osaka since it’s a big city and there’s a lot to do there too. Plus, the bullet train is a cool experience even though it does take a while. If you decide to go to Nintendo world, try to have the mentality of going to Universal Studios as a whole instead of just Nintendo world, since it’s kind of small and there’s not *too* much to do there. I had lots of fun there though, the whole area just feels really cool to be in.
As for other things in Japan, don’t miss Akihabara since that’s video game/anime central, and there’s a lot of arcades and shops to visit there. Shinjuku is also a great place to visit, since there’s attractions like the Godzilla head and the 3D cat signs you may have seen before. If you’ve got an afternoon off, you can pay $30 to $40 on afternoon tickets to Disneyland, which let you in the park from 5pm to closing. And the Tokyo Sky Tree in Asakusa is also great, the views up there are incredible, especially if you go on a day with clear skies. I went for a week and a half and found no shortage of things to do, but make sure to buy tickets and make reservations for as many things as you can in advance! Especially for theme parks.
I don't think I can plan much around osaka, because our hotel is all the way on the other side. I will be exploring though, but you're right I should make reservations, but like where? I'm near tokyo.
Make reservations for river cruises, go karts, car rentals, if you’re into any of that. We unfortunately missed out on some of those things we wanted to do because we waited until while we were in the country to make the reservations, so research anything you wanna do and make sure to plan it ahead.
1. I'm jealous
2. That inkling statue looks awesome! (And it's a giant improvement from the Inkling statue used to Promote the first splatoon in Canada)
So fresh! Just keep in mind that if you have trouble connecting your new Switch to 5GHz Wifi networks over here in the States, it's because of some technical standards differing between regions. Learned that the hard way recently...
Yes, in post-soviet countries nintendo was so expensive, that we had "dendy" as a pirate version of NES, and because of crisis nintendo till now is way more expensive than Sony, Sega or Xbox. So in 2000-s everyone played ps2, ps3, xbox 360.
And people simply think that it is games for children that costs 60$, they don't even played them. I've even seen a 10 y.o. child that said nintendo is for kids, I'll better play GTA V.
We had bloggers that hated nintendo in their videos just for hype didn't even played more than first location.
I'm going for a vacation to Japan in april. Where can I buy these? Akihabara?

I KNOW WHERE I WILL GO DURING MY NEXT VACATION !
Living in Ukraine and seeing all hate to nintendo here is sad
Can you explain that?
