Now that we have signed koulibaly. Let's find his replacement.
mans were saying Colwill should get a chance next year then they go and do this 😅
I think thiago Silva will be let go next season....
Thiago is still our best defender
Azpi aging too
Aging...homie was one foot out the door this summer LOL
Even if he stays until he retires (whenever that is), his legs are already gone
That’s why he only managed to get one out of the door instead of both
hes still valuable as a sub in knockout stage football id say
He’s our best defender, if he wants to stay he will absolutely stay. He will play less and be rotated but we are in absolutely no rush to get rid of him
so he’ll only have Koulabily, Fofana, Gvardiol, and Cucarella ahead of him.
It’s why it’s so impossible to break through at the very top clubs, you’re basically competing with every single potential world class player for time.
I don’t blame Chelsea here, Gvardiol seems like he could be in contention for best defender in the world eventually and a club like Chelsea is rightfully all over getting as many of those type of players as they can.
But academy players only get a chance if you don’t put anybody in their way. Foden got a chance because City didn’t replace outgoing players, Trent got a chance because Liverpool didn’t spend £40m on a proven RB, Mount and James got chances because the transfer ban literally didn’t let Chelsea put someone in their way
Cucurella seems to be exlusively LB/LWB and will only slot into LCB if there is no other option.
Baffling, that you spent 60 million when you have Chilwell but I guess I can't argue with the American big bucks.
As an outsider, I have viewed the Cucurella signing and minutes as a bad sign about Chilwell’s recovery.
Came off a devastating injury and Alonso/Emerson aren’t exactly inspiring
Nothing wrong with depth, injuries will happen
>Foden got a chance because City didn’t replace outgoing players
It's the other way around: City didn't replace outgoing players because the club recognised Foden was talented enough to have a key place in the squad.
Colwill could be second choice at lcb behind gvardiol, with fofana and kouli at rcb or kouli playing central when we play a back 3. That seems reasonable to me for a player who will be 20 with one year of prem loan under his belt
Silva will be reupped if he wants. Though the reality is next season, if he decides to stay, it would almost certainly be a hybrid coach/player role. I'd love to see him give us another ~15 games next season and transition onto the coaching staff.
We keep saying this, and he keeps being our best defender every week. At this point, I'm not sure if he'll decline at 40 or 50.
People are stupid. He can easily play 20-30 games a season while literally educating the next gen of CBs.
We have 3 cb's aged 33 31 and 38. Colwill will get his chance
This is basically jumping the gun so he doesn't go to a different club like tchouameni who went to madrid for a similar fee
300M on defenders alone in 1 window when Havertz is your #9 is crazy
Not only that but you sold off CHO and Timo and were looking to offload El Gringo.
There’s a lot of good strikers out there and do you think a super striker will just appear next season?
It definitely is, but no good 9s are available right now, might as well secure the class defenders while we can.
Seemed to work out for City when they splashed like £250m on their GK + back line
Didn't they already have an attack of sane sterling and aguero at the time? With jesus on the bench, plus a midfield of de bruyne, david silva and bernardo silva. Seems a bit easier building a defence when you've already got that much attacking ability
or they could buy lukaku back again :)
They don't even need to! Just wait for the loan to end :)
OR they could pay Inter to end the loan inmediatly!
Inter: and that'll be another 100M
>Didn't they already have an attack of sane sterling and aguero at the time?
Yes, plus we lost all of our fullbacks and our backup goalkeeper that summer so that was clearly our top priority. It's not really the same situation at Chelsea.
Lots of 9s are avaliable while spending 300m.
Chelsea spent 100m on keepers alone lol
It's like Roman never left.
Roman would've sacked Tuchel by now
Yepp, after today's game i would've given it like 3 more at most
Man's pre-ordered a player
Bit like Keita I guess lol
Did he play more than 2 hours yet? Asking for a friend.
Wonder if we'll get the bonus DLC for free
Dominic Lalvert Clewin
Football manager approach for when you want someone’s potential but don’t have room for them this year.
…except you don’t usually pay 90M
Oh boy, its Boehly time again!
The Reverse Glazers
This is fucking outrageous tbh.
With Fofana and this deal, they'd have gross spend of something like £330m. Net spend a little under £300m.
They're probably also getting Aubamayang too...
There must be been some dodgy business with the sale to Bohley which enables him to spend like this and still come out ahead.
As part of the sale he had to agree to invest over a billion in the next 10 years or something, looks like he’s trying to build a core of young defenders first. Not an awful idea if they continue to play/develop like they have already. We do need someone who can score some goals though.
And considering that Chelsea have let in 5 goals in 2 games, defence does seem to be a major problem there.
You need a midfield first.
£1.5 billion debt was wiped out when the takeover happened. That's why they're able to.
Fucking crooked bastards. We spent a billion on a stadium by skimping on signings for a decade, meanwhile their punishment for being the face of a Russian oligarch is to get even more money.
Chelsea about to lineup with 8 center backs next season and somehow win the league with Reece James as the top scorer
Our defenders are our most creative and dangerous players, it's the way
I maintain that, last season, we could have challenged for the league with Alonso up top (provided we played Spurs every week)
FFP is a myth
FFP is like Santa Claus. Its a big deal when you are small. Once you get big, your realize it isnt real
That is an amazing analogy.
Thank you, every now and then people understand me
FFP is like Befana, it’s only real if you’re Italian.
FFP was designed to keep smaller clubs from overspending so they don't collapse. Realistically all it did was protect the elite
No, it was designed to protect the elite, disguised as the former.
Man City and PSG are lucky they got in before they pulled the ladder up
working as intended, smaller clubs have no chance of ever mixing with the big boys
It's working as intended
It's not a myth, it's just a joke. Placeholder.
wow Boehly isn't playing around
Cucurella, Koulibaly, Gvirdol and Fofana
What the fuck
Defence death star going to be fully operational soon...
Seems like this is a preparation for Thiago Silva's farewell probably at the end of the season. New backline will be Gvardiol-KK-Fofana with Cucurella/Chilwell and Reece as wingbacks...
>Gvardiol-KK-Fofana with Cucurella/Chilwell and Reece as wingbacks...
setting us up to have the worlds best defence
65 + 88 + 90, don't know how much were Chilwell or James but yikesssssss
Undisclosed but thought to be 45
James is an academy player but yeah Chilly was expensive. We've been paying heavily for how good a deal azpi was at the time and getting t. Silva on a free transfer
Imagine Levi Colwill smashing it at Brighton just to come back and compete with two €90m CB
yeah there’s no way he plays every week when the first choice is
The message is “if you work really hard and prove yourself in the Prem every week, you can one day aspire to be a rotation player at Chelsea and watch us sign £50m players to play ahead of you”
Happening with Broja and Aubameyang this year already
iirc from a former players interview, he said something along the lines of, when you first sign for Chelsea they tell you that there's a good chance you won't make it at Chelsea, but we'll make you a top level player.
Obviously paraphrasing a lot there but you get the sentiment, they are upfront to the players about their chances but players take it anyway.
Yeah cuz considering how small percentage of players even make it to professional, to be at such academy basically guarantees you'll have a career in big football. That might mean jumping between championship and PL relegation or mid table but as an individual that is to be preferred in front of not making it cuz you were either Chelsea or nothing.
Broja hasn't proven himself in the prem, he scored 6 goals then went goalless for like 15 games
Sounds like Havertz. Who is a house hold name and Germany starter
I'd be surprised is TS leaves, seems like his stamina is waning and he probably knows it, but his positioning/reading is so good he can keep playing at a high level, just less frequently
He has said many times he'd like to go back to Brazil and play for Fluminense one more time before retiring to be a coach. Maybe he comes back to us maybe not. I'd love for him to retire here but we'll see.
His wife apparently really likes London and his kids are in the Chelsea system... Happy wife, happy life.
> He has said many times he'd like to go back to Brazil and play for Fluminense one more time before retiring
Yes, please, he can come back to London at anytime after it, just let us have him back for 2 years
TS is amazing and I love him but he needs to be in a back three against better opposition and that's somewhat limiting (not fatally so, however). I just want to see him coaching here.
so scary. gonna have a lot of thrilling 0-0 wins
If tuchel gets sacked theyve basically got to buy a 3atb manager lol
Could in theory play a 442 with a backline of James-Fofana-Kouliably-Gvardiol and Cucurella at LM - played there at Getafe. Doubt it though
Just not ideal to spend 90 million on a cb to play at left back when youd have two actual left backs in your squad
There’s not playing around and then there’s whatever the fuck this is
Career mode financial takeover apparently
chelsea revenge tour
Fuck it Chelsea playing with 10 fullback and cb next season. Doesn't have to worry about striker cursed anymore or complain about tuchel attack set up
Somebody explain to me how Chelsea can afford all of this if they werre losing money under Roman.
Surely if they miss UCL they’re fucked no ?
Now that's something Joško should agree with, needs to stay at Leipzig and play so we have consistent performance until the WC and then he can make the move
Also 20% for Dinamo nice
>Also 20% for Dinamo nice
If the deal goes through, we will get ca. €15 million for a player who doesn´t even play for us anymore.
Holy fucking shit
I hope we'll use that money to finally buy some quality LB and RW.
Mamic: _well why shouldn't I spend this money on a new yacht?_
And we still have Olmo's bonus waiting
worried about his fitness right now, missed whole preseason through injury and even when he came back he looks miles off his regular level.
Good news for us rival fans but i dont pray on his downfall or anything
Being the monster he is, he will get his form back pretty fast
I expected him to stay longer in Leipzig
He was never going to stay more than one to maybe two additional years, after the season he had.
Boehly's been playing Football Manager
My board never gives me 400m
You lot got a fancy new stadium though
PL money is fucking insane man
Meanwhile we don’t have 2M to sign a veteran center back. The disparity will only grow.
PL clubs don’t have limits for money. And it will only get worse
welcome to being portuguese / dutch - it sucks
Not all PL clubs are run like Chelsea lol
On the one hand - true.
On the other hand, a newly promoted team in Nottingham Forest have spent £184m.
They will never do that again though. They only had 8 players on the books going into the season.
The fact they could shows the disparity tho
Serie A fucked itself. Had just as much potential to be a global league as the prem easy.
Is so sad, we had the potential to at least be up there with La Liga as the 2nd biggest league.
don't worry, Tebas is trying as hard as he can to bring down the value of La Liga, stay ready Serie A to pounce
Serie A does the same tbh
It had the potential, but it wouldn't have been easy. The PL being in an English speaking country is a huge advantage.
It’s funny to me that now other bigger leagues/clubs are being hurt by this I see this complaint all the time. When leagues ranged 6-10 were being priced out, fell of and complained all off them never bat an eye.
QUESTION: why didn't seria A take off like PL did in the mid 2000s?
Well for one they had a league champion (other teams too) be relegated and two titles revoked because of match fixing, among other reasons.
Chelsea clearly just googled “best wonderkids in fm”. Jokes aside, this is a massive signing.
That’s going to be 400m summer for Chelsea. Wow!!
Somebody bring Roman back.
hahahha this is peak
But...Maguire.. ....you said you wanted him.
You could have him for a tenner.
united spent 100M on antony, and Chelsea is giving fight again
Tbf I think gvardiol is worth 90M a lot more than antony is worth 100M
When you put that in this context that’s actually a very good deal lol
It's definitely a better deal, but it's certainly not a good deal
Probably not, I like the signings but I’m sad by the fees tbh
Crazy money, good talent
Probably the best talent we would get. Might be overkill because we just bought fofana but he definitely is getting sold around this price no matter what
Roman was holding us back
I know right? Mother fucker thought he could go about it without 4 CB's for each spot
Could Leipzig get more next summer?
Nope. Buy out clause.
Nobody close to the club has echoed the idea that there's a release clause next tear.
Buy out clause was rumoured but from my understanding that contract never happened.
Couldn't find a single reputable source saying he'd signed a new contract with it in.
Would be keen to see if you could share a source if you have one please?
What about Fofana? So they buy Fofana and Gvardiol for 90 Mio?
How many years until every good player is moving to the big money league in England?
This might legitimately be the last 5 years, where we see other leagues being competitive. Absolutely insane how much every single PL team spends in the last two years. 80+ million transfers are the norm now and there are two clubs in the world, that can even remotely match that right now with Real Madrid and Bayern. What a wild ride lol
On average I think Prem clubs make a lot more money from TV rights and advertising.
Bayern, Juventus, PSG, Barce and Real will all be fine, it’s the other clubs it may be an issue with.
£90m and loan back for a year?
They’re gonna phase Thiago Silva out and have Gvardiol and Fofana flanking Koulibaly . Boehly is not playing around
Player/Coach Thiago Silva à la MJ in Space Jam
Tuchel cannot be serious
Well that sucks.
That signing is concerning for the rest of us. Stacked CB lineup for chelsea and longevity is also mostly taken care of.
They're paying a premium for their new defense, but at least it should be quality.
Cucurella on the left, Reece on the right, and Koulibaly and Silva should be good for the next few seasons, and they'll have their next generation of CBs in Gvardiol (who could play as a LCB in a back three, or a LB as well), potentially Fofana, along with guys like Chalobah, Ampadu, and Sarr.
What'll be interesting to me is to see what Chelsea do with Chilwell. He's struggled with injuries and his star has certainly faded since his time with Leicester, but he's still only 25, and there's a good player in there somewhere. Will they keep him as depth, or will they feel a need to use him to try and balance out the books?
Dude whaat? Chilwell was one of the best players with Reece James not even a year ago. I would say he was premium quality, providing a lot of goals and assists. Definitely the same maybe even better form than in Leicester. He then got a long term injury and he is in the process of the long recovery it takes for this kind of injury. He is not even fully back. So thats why I was very surprised by calling him a faded star lol...
Bring Roman back
That’s an absurd fee. How can you like that? PL clubs can pay what they want
This, more than anything else, is why Bayern are on 10 in a row. Sure the clubs get big fees, but they can’t replace one-for-one so they always take one step forward, two steps back. I’m sure the sub will go crazy when Bayern sign someone from Hertha though
Holy shit Toddfather calm down
Boehly really is playing Football Manager in real life, isn't he?
What are these FIFA signings
Fuck off. Chelsea doing pep defensive numbers in one summer
I’m jealous of getting multiple sugar daddies not gonna lie
Why is Chelsea spending 300M on defenders when they totally lack in the offense?
2 months ago - _Chelsea have really got a huge job on to replace half the defence which are leaving_
now - _why are these idiots looking at defence?_
r/soccer can’t comprehend the Great Wall of Tuchel
Here, defenders score goals.
Because at the min the striker market is shit.
I mean 75m for Fofana and 90m for Gvardiol, CB market isn’t much better, both good players but those fees are brute forcing the transfers, so realistically with that kind of expenditure you could easily do the same for a good striker.
Agreed but they are both extremly young and going to be paried with KK and Thiago Silva as their mentors. Chelsea wont need to spend a penny on centrebacks in the next 7-8 years if they turn out well.
Because our two most played defenders are 33 and 37 and we need long term defensive replacements for them.
your best midfielders are 30+ as well.
Kante is often injured.
And you attack can't score goals.
Can't replace the entire team in one transfer window though.
No long-term strikers available. This move would sort out our defense for years to come. James, Fofana, Gvardiol, Chalobah, Cucurella and Chilwell are all 25 or younger, most of them 22 or younger. Then we could focus on midfield and attack in the next few years.
Does this mean Chelsea don't want Maguire anymore.. coz 90 million and he's yours!
Fofana and Gvardiol is the CB pairing of dreams, could be together for 10+ years
Superleague is full well.
out of nowhere. boehly is cooking
no way, that would be an incredible signing
90 Mio.?? How are RB able to pull these numbers
Roman was holding them back lol
