He's not a midfielder lmao, he's a CB. He had one season where he was shoehorned as a DM and that was 2 years ago. In general he's a CB and that's what ten Hag plays him. We're getting him as a CB.
I hate this window because all of our fans are Dutch football experts and now Martinez is way better overall than Timber. Also sign a forward you fucks.
I do remember feeling that he was overrated at a point, this was probably five years ago now. These days not at all, if anything it's the opposite, I feel like there are many people that underrate how good he was at his peak because of the last few years.
Recency bias kills lol. Genuinely rated Hazard as one of the best in the world, just below the Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar clique. He was mesmerizing. Whatever you say of his goal contributions, he carried that Chelsea team for quite a bit
Why are Pogba and McTominay scapegoated at Manchester United? McTominay has been heavily used by the past few managers, and Pogba starts for the current World Cup holders and is wanted by the most successful Italian team is recent years. Surely they can't be that bad.
If someone says that Pogba is wanted for his marketing potential, I'm gonna flip a lid.
Everything related to Man Utd gets 3x more exagerated than it should be. So people treat the players as top class individuals or relegation esque ones. You wouldn't think the team finished 3rd, 2nd and 6th with them (which, if you make an average, is more the true level of the squad and its players)
As for Pogba, if he wasn't so expensive and also a cunt, certainly people would treat him better
Pogba was pure shit for almost all of his Manchester United career, especially for the fee. He's not being scapegoated he's being justifiably criticised.
United teams have scapegoats always. Maguire has been a bigger scapegoats than both of them. Pogba was expected to do magic he couldn't or expected to be good at things he wasn't. McTom is a squad player with poor spatial awareness who has been starting all games when he should't be because he can cover a large area left by our structural frailties.
Each of the past 3 World Cups, we *suddenly* realize how stacked the team was. Lots of talk about how the 2nd team for the recent winner would be competitive.
So which country has some sneaky depth right now? Brazil?
List of players with too much wage that not easy to get rid:
1. Aubameyang, sold for free with compensation
2. Ozil, sold for free with shared wage
3. Griezmann
4. F. De Jong
5. Aaron Ramsey
6. Neymar
7. Bale, contract expired
8. Pogba, contract expired
9. Hazard, not really a problem Madrid is ok with it
Perisic replaces Sessegnon.
But yeah eh 4th, great attack, especially with Perisic supporting it that's an improvement on last season, but not too impressive outside of that.
Probably not very high if Davies plays right centre back and the 2 wingbacks swap sides. Joking aside I imagine Skipp or the bloke they got from Juve start next to Bissouma, Perisic will also play most games. They desperately need a RWB because Emerson is absolutely awful, like he gives Firpo a run for his money he’s that shite. 3rd if they sign a RWB and Bissouma doesn’t get locked up. 4/5th otherwise.
Doherty will start over Emerson for sure. That said Emerson is no where near as bad as Firpo. He's a good RB just not at all fit for RWB. He performed brilliantly in the last month of 21/22, he's really not that shite.
Hojbjerg is also incredibly underrated, he'd start with Bissouma I think, but Skipp and Bentancur are good too.
US is the first Concacaf team to qualify for the U20 World Cup. Panama/Honduras play tonight, and Dominican Republic/Jamaica and Guatemala/Mexico play tomorrow to decide the other three spots. Whichever two teams get to the finals also qualify for the Olympics.
I think the Koulibaly rumors are to push Juve to accept a bid for De Ligt. Don’t think there are many clubs after De Ligt this year and Juve needs money.
Though if we end up signing both, I’m not complaining and would actually be the ideal solution.
Arrivabene is running deals now and he’s going to hardball. Especially knowing you have money and new owners that want to spend
My thought was it’s an alternative for you guys
That’s fine, we go for Koulibaly then. IMO a better player, at lower wages, lower cost - would just be a medium term solution instead of long term.
Also we likely stick to the 200m budget regardless of new owner, so don’t think that’s a huge factor either. But I can see De Ligt staying put.
I obviously rate De Ligt very highly but I wouldn’t really argue with saying Koulibaly is the better player currently. Physically a beast and is IMO prime CB age
De Ligts price is so high because he would need to finance two CBs if he’s sold. One would be expected to start most minutes next season and would need to be high quality as well. That’s kinda why I don’t really see one of the swaps being accepted
I will say you are the first Chelsea fan I’ve seen even mention his wages tho
Why would you need him to finance two CBs if only one of them would be needed as direct replacement. If the same money can be used to fill other areas is squad (eg attack with Pulisic / Werner) through swaps it’s essentially the same thing except you might get some discount on those players prices. And I’d guess the clubs could use some accounting magic that results from swap deals.
Also there might be other players like Emerson and Jorginho that come into the picture to make this deal happen, I wouldn’t be surprised.
I thought it was common knowledge he’s on high wages which is why not many clubs are interested because combine that with Juve’s asking price and you’ve get an enormous package to deal with.
Chiellini while not able to play very often was still a fantastic defender when available. With him now gone and taking away De Ligt you would be left with Bonucci, Rugani, and Gatti. We were supposedly already in the market for a CB before all this news came out, so with our most consistent defender these past couple years also gone we really would need two quality options coming in
Pulisic is not good enough and gets injured too often for what we are looking for in our left wing and this is a personal thing that no clue if management/Allegri agrees with is to stop shoehorning makeshift strikers out onto the wing in Werner’s case, also don’t really think he’s good enough to accept in a swap in that case
We’re also now very close to signing Cambiasso at LB so I think the Emerson ship has sailed and I don’t see Jorginho coming in after Pogba (personally think the combo is way too slow to play together)
I think if Juve really go for the deal it’s going to be close to a fuck off price
If you were already in the market for a CB before DeLigt, then you wouldn’t really need DeLigt money for two CBs, just for one.
Even if you assume you do need DeLigt for two quality players, if you don’t sell you’re left with only two quality CBs in Bonuncci and DeLigt.
And if that is really the case, all the more reason you would need money to have two quality CBs. That a sale is needed, means Juve could accept lower price. It’s a game of poker, where Juve seems to indicate they have the upper hand which may not really be the case and too risky a play IMO. - a la Sandro situation from a few years ago.
There have been past interests in Pulisic and Werner from Juve so I wouldn’t rule them out. Pogba and Jorginho are every different players too and the latter is the player in Allegri mold.
From a comment I made in the MU Lisandro thread.
"Since 2015 some high profile moves include -
Depay to MU, Davinson Sanchez to Spurs, Ziyech to Chelsea, VDB to MU, Bergwijn to Spurs, Klassen to Everton, Jansenn to Spurs, Wijnaldum to Newcastle, Angelino to City."
All those players except Wijnaldum lol.
Also Werner, kind of Kai honestly, he's pretty good and has that CL goal but dude sure hasn't scored close to the 17 he got in the Bundesliga.
Bakayoko, ugh, fucking terrible player, how did Monaco convince people he was good?
Serie A had extremely high standards at the time, if he proved himself he would've been an even bigger star. Probably a ballon d'or or two instead of finishing below Nedved.
He ended up being the Premier League's greatest ever player, World Cup winner, European Championship winner, and won the European Golden Shoe twice- I don't think he'll be disappointed how his career turned out.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Sterling is in the top 10 of all-time Manchester City goal scorers.
I agree with you. Mahrez is a Leicester legend but I don’t think he has really been crucial for City. Take him out and I think City are still as good. But take out Sterling and I think City are a bit worse. That’s my opinion
Mahrez is a key player for Pep and does stuff in the team no one else can do. The disrespect he gets on here is shocking.
Pep needs him for what he brings especially his 1v1 against the full back and ability to go either way from the right wing. If he leaves City, it will be difficult for him to be replaced.
He doesn’t even start most of the games. Of course he is a great player but without him they play Sterling there or Jesus and they’re still just as good IMO

Tottenham made one miracle run, which was great. And then?? Disaster in EL vs Dinamo Zagreb. Another terrible performance this year in ECL. Should be automatic finalists in these competitions considering the financial disparity.
UEFA incompetence made you drop points in all the initial games? Should've gotten out of that group with 15 then. What about the previous season? "We had a bad manager" isn't an excuse, he's literally part of the team.
I already said the top 3 performs well yet people keep mentioning them.. why?
Please look at how every team besides City/Liverpool/Chelsea performed in those years. Tottenham in 2019 are quite literally the only surprise. Every other performance is either doing what's expected or just losing in embarrassing fashion. West Ham lost to Frankfurt and people accept it as a normal thing lmao. Frankfurt's 2nd biggest transfer sale was to West Ham. This is a ridiculous upset. I'd love to see what Frankfurt could do if they were a team capable of spending €50m on a single player, they're already good enough to win EL.
Look at the last 3 seasons (19/20, 20/21, 21/22) and the only teams that performed as expected are Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea.
This whole thread is about Sheffield Utd getting more money than Inter. A midtable team in the PL like Leicester should never be finishing below the likes of Napoli and Spartak Moscow in their EL group. West Ham should never be losing to Frankfurt. These are the things I'm talking about. Saying it for the trillionth time here but I am not talking about the best teams in the league.
Man Utd can spend on a comparable level to nation-backed sides. They should never be losing to Atletico, or Villarreal in the final, or Sevilla.
Atletico's net spend since 2015 is €100m, Man Utd €700m.
People just don't want to accept that these teams are not on an even playing field. They just say "oh the money was badly spent, money doesn't buy quality". Yeah that's the whole point. All that money and we still have this bad of a league.
Good thing I said Europe and specified "once you go past the top 2-3".
Their teams should be winning EL (and now the Conference League) literally every single season with no exceptions.
Besided La Liga ( mainly Real and Sevilla), its been only PL clubs in both Europa and CL, theyve had 6 different club finalist last 3 years alone, not really embarassing at all
The real embarassing league in Europe is Seria A and French league
Why would those leagues be embarrassing? They don't have PL money. Their teams aren't expected to perform at the same level.
Stop bringing up Liverpool/City/Chelsea performances in the CL, I've clearly mentioned multiple times it's not about those teams. It's about Tottenham, Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester, Man Utd, Burnley that one season etc. These teams should be winning European tournaments. The financial gap is that big. Yes the top teams are good, I've accepted that part already.
i am pretty disappointed we didn’t. get bissouma tbh. He would have been a good rotation option for partey, especially since partey gets injured for like a third of the season. With raphinha, I would have been happy if we got him, but it doesn’t matter that much to me
That’s fine but the issue is he’s going to Chelsea and there’s no chance of arsenal being better than them next year.
I do agree that arsenal really didn’t need him since his best position is the best as sakas best position but where did we go from here now?
Sterling, Raphinha, havertz is a better front 3 than ours
And their defence is better too that’s basically the only team we could have tried to get better than
We are playing full strength, except for LB because Fabra got too many yellows.
Boca is a very mysterious team, we play better against tough opposition but we can also get this massive defensive lagoons at times.
Ornstien is the original guy on the scene. His reliability has never really been questioned either. The only thing against it is that The Athletic often give him the final "done deal" article when the real work was with the club journos. He also has a twitter comp.
I'm definitely a Romano-stan - I unashamedly love the "here we go" catchphrase and I just adore how he seems to rattle everyone now that he is a superstar journalist.
Half the fun of the transfer window is interpreting her batshit crazy tweets. More often than not there’s some truth to what she’s saying (enough times that it can’t just be a coincidence) but she’s also been horribly wrong a few times
This is kinda random, but I wonder if football has ever had polymaths in the sport? Perhaps someone like Vinnie Jones? Who excelled in his career as an actor and the personification of the english game as a player
Carlos Salvador Bilardo was not only a great player and a world cup winning manager, he also studied medicine during his early playing career and graduated as a gynecologist, as well as researching on rectal cancer.
Martinez more a Cb or a CDM? I am hoping he settles as Frenkie partner in double pivot
He's not a midfielder lmao, he's a CB. He had one season where he was shoehorned as a DM and that was 2 years ago. In general he's a CB and that's what ten Hag plays him. We're getting him as a CB.

What's your problem if our fans are like that
It's because they know fuck all most of the time.Just leads to unrealistic expectations and disappointment if the last decade was a good indicator.
Think Bergwijn will do well next season outside of Spurs?
Yes. He will have a Depay like trajectory imo
Wait, so people here actually think Hazard was overrated, or is it just trolling the Chelsea fans?
Nah, the guy was genuinely such a joy to watch and I usually take absolutely no joy in watching Chelsea
Who is K2? I will choke you to death if its Kounde.
Kalidou Koulibaly
It's not even a particularly hard name to spell.
It is 2nd tallest mountain in the world, located in Pakistan
I've actually seen it in person on a trip. Lovely view.
Wow cool
I'm so jealous that Chelsea is getting SMS.
It's nowhere near complete, we get linked to him on the regular
We aren’t
Looks like money + player like Emerson or Kepa to land him
? We’re just interested
I sincerely doubt we're getting him this summer.

Pogba was pure shit for almost all of his Manchester United career, especially for the fee. He's not being scapegoated he's being justifiably criticised.
“Pure shit” is a wild exaggeration, and it’s not like it been a well tuned machine
> McTominay has been heavily used by the past few managers This is Maguire level logic, "he's starting so he must be doing good"
United teams have scapegoats always. Maguire has been a bigger scapegoats than both of them. Pogba was expected to do magic he couldn't or expected to be good at things he wasn't. McTom is a squad player with poor spatial awareness who has been starting all games when he should't be because he can cover a large area left by our structural frailties.
McTominay is shit on because he's shit. It's not quantum physics.
How much wage cut did Coutinho agree to for his move to Villa?
Rags say its 70%, take that for what you will, but they all have the same number
Each of the past 3 World Cups, we *suddenly* realize how stacked the team was. Lots of talk about how the 2nd team for the recent winner would be competitive. So which country has some sneaky depth right now? Brazil?
France
Spain is pretty solid in terms of their midfield and fullbacks, for sure.
Portugal had sneaky depth for a while, imo the 2nd best squad after France. Haven't managed to show up in recent tournaments though.
I wouldn't say they have as good of a squad as you're claiming at all. There are teams with better and more balanced squad.
France, Brazil, Portugal maybe

Coutinho, Sancho, Werner, Bakayoko, Nicola Pepe, Kepa, Joelinton, Ndombele, Soumare, Jovic, Davinson Sanchez, Hirving Lozano, etc.
Henry in Serie A Good thing he moved to a much easier league and became a legend there
He only had one season there as a twenty year old so not exactly the best example.

If these Chelsea rumours are true then we are fucked. I mean they're already the 3rd best team in the league but now it'll be even harder to catch up.
You never know, their signings might be crap or injured and Man Utd finally start training its players.
….bc they’re signing raphina ?
+Sterling and K2 and De Ligt. Raph and Sterling both very close, the other two not so much but probs the rumours OP's talking about.

Proves Money doesn’t equal quality
That's what happens when one league produces greater revenue than another league.
And PL teams still regularly embarrass themselves in Europe. Shocking league once you go past the top 2-3.

Tottenham made one miracle run, which was great. And then?? Disaster in EL vs Dinamo Zagreb. Another terrible performance this year in ECL. Should be automatic finalists in these competitions considering the financial disparity.
We had Nuno and then we got kicked out because of UEFA incompetence out of our control. You ok there?
UEFA incompetence made you drop points in all the initial games? Should've gotten out of that group with 15 then. What about the previous season? "We had a bad manager" isn't an excuse, he's literally part of the team.
We had a bad manager
Must be a league full of bad managers then. Not like Tottenham are the only underperformers in Europe.
60% of Champions League finalists (and 30% of Europa finalists) in the last 5 years have been English.
I'd love to see what Frankfurt could do if they were a team capable of spending €50m on a single player, they're already good enough to win EL.
lmao how, tell me one league that participated in more semi finals and finals in the last 5 years
Look at the last 3 seasons (19/20, 20/21, 21/22) and the only teams that performed as expected are Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea.
Atletico were champions and we barely lost to them. all in all topping the group and reaching the last 16th wasn't the worst thing.
Atletico's net spend since 2015 is €100m, Man Utd €700m. People just don't want to accept that these teams are not on an even playing field. They just say "oh the money was badly spent, money doesn't buy quality". Yeah that's the whole point. All that money and we still have this bad of a league.
net spend is bulshit because we don't sale players total spending of Atletico is hardly small
How?? They had so many CL finalist from different teams Its just Real, and Bayern vs PL
Good thing I said Europe and specified "once you go past the top 2-3". Their teams should be winning EL (and now the Conference League) literally every single season with no exceptions.
Besided La Liga ( mainly Real and Sevilla), its been only PL clubs in both Europa and CL, theyve had 6 different club finalist last 3 years alone, not really embarassing at all The real embarassing league in Europe is Seria A and French league
Yes the top teams are good, I've accepted that part already.
we know your name
I'm in your walls
This is how the fans welcomed Corinthians for the match against Boca -> https://twitter.com/yago_ruda/status/1541920558186733568
Excited for the match
Low key happy we aren’t getting Raphinha. I would rather spend that money on a xhaka replacement and a decent enough saka backup
copium
They never wanted Bissouma either uno
i am pretty disappointed we didn’t. get bissouma tbh. He would have been a good rotation option for partey, especially since partey gets injured for like a third of the season. With raphinha, I would have been happy if we got him, but it doesn’t matter that much to me
no? I never wanted raphinha
That’s fine but the issue is he’s going to Chelsea and there’s no chance of arsenal being better than them next year. I do agree that arsenal really didn’t need him since his best position is the best as sakas best position but where did we go from here now? Sterling, Raphinha, havertz is a better front 3 than ours And their defence is better too that’s basically the only team we could have tried to get better than
We finished 2 pts off spurs but you think we can’t even TRY to get better than them??!!!
You still need a starting quality right winger. In going for Raphinha it’s clear imo Arteta’s long term vision for Saka is at LB
How do you work that one out when Pepe couldn’t get game time to save his life, even when the Arsenal LBs were putting in weekly disasterclasses
💀
Wonder who you will try now? Maybe Tielemans?
Tieletubby links have gone dead recently, think we might come back if the price is lower, like with ramsdale
40m for Tielemans ain’t a bad deal at all. Depends on the budget I guess
Kinda happy Griezmann has declined so much since he did a fucking Fortnite dance after scoring against Argentina.
He is Uruguayan tbf
Disgusting 🤮 How do you feel for tonight btw? Only an hour left.
I'm nervous about our line up. It seems Du won't play and our DMs available are shit (Xavier and Roni). You?
We are playing full strength, except for LB because Fabra got too many yellows. Boca is a very mysterious team, we play better against tough opposition but we can also get this massive defensive lagoons at times.
Just saw that we are playing with Roni, Adson (RW) and Giuliano in the midfield. We are fucked.

Ali Gold.
Grace Robertson, easy
Ali Gold is clear
There's Pearce and then all the other dregs
Ornstien is the original guy on the scene. His reliability has never really been questioned either. The only thing against it is that The Athletic often give him the final "done deal" article when the real work was with the club journos. He also has a twitter comp.
Orny always make me so h-
Prime Pedulla and "it's not even close"
I'm definitely a Romano-stan - I unashamedly love the "here we go" catchphrase and I just adore how he seems to rattle everyone now that he is a superstar journalist.

the one and only queen... >!es\_grimes!<
Half the fun of the transfer window is interpreting her batshit crazy tweets. More often than not there’s some truth to what she’s saying (enough times that it can’t just be a coincidence) but she’s also been horribly wrong a few times
she got a couple things right but has some really bad misses
Orny and Nizaar >

a shame he will only be scoring tap ins now.
I think that night is very forgettable for you, at least
Guy that posted it >my third club making me proud
third club is crazy
wtf lmao
This is kinda random, but I wonder if football has ever had polymaths in the sport? Perhaps someone like Vinnie Jones? Who excelled in his career as an actor and the personification of the english game as a player
Pogba
I think Chiellini has a MBA or something like that. We had Dr. Sócrates as well
Carlos Salvador Bilardo was not only a great player and a world cup winning manager, he also studied medicine during his early playing career and graduated as a gynecologist, as well as researching on rectal cancer.
Socrates probably deserves a mention here too
How does Vinnie Jones come across as a polymath?
