So, which PL team is gonna get him ?
To be honest I think it could be for his own good to stay one more year in Eredevisie ( or maybe try BVB , they will have the Bellingham money)
I don’t think another year of Eredivisie would do him a favor tbh. He needs a place where he isn’t the best player in the squad to really get to the next level. Even Slot, reluctantly, acknowledged this.
Of course, there is CL on the menu but that is most likely not going to be more than 6 games. It would be better if he can train with players that are better so he really needs to work to get into the first eleven.
It’ll give us an opportunity to ask for some extra money but usually winter transfers are used to get in some immediate reinforcements and Kökcü is most likely going to be brought in as a prospect. Also, it might fuck up the dynamic a bit. It’s better to focus on a team without Kökcü in the summer already, instead of quickly trying to implement some changes in January.
United need bodies in midfield, Sabitzer going back and unlikely to be signed, plus the club wanting to move on from Mctominay (possibly Fred too). He would get plenty of minutes and Malacia showed that gritty players like them can be very decent for United.
Obviously, Kökcü is not at the level of Xhaka yet. But don’t forget, Xhaka hasn’t been undisputed in the past either. With Kökcü you’re buying potential, he’s only 22 and still has a lot of room for growth.
Although Kökcü isn’t an absolute powerhouse like Xhaka, he’s a bit more comfortable on the ball and actually performs really well defensively. Even in the European games against Roma/Lazio/Marseille he managed to excel and win a lot of duels and recover the ball a lot. I can see him as a potential Xhaka successor, but he obviously is going to need some time to adapt to the Premier League.
> Xhaka hasn’t been undisputed in the past either.
What? He's been a starter under every manager since he transferred to Arsenal. He might not have been amazing in the first few years, but undisputed starter he has always been.
He has been getting a lot of shit talked about him in his early years. Partly deserved. I never claimed he wasn’t a starter though, people were just really negative about him.
Kokcu has clearly outgrown the Eredivisie. He is on a different level, maybe together with Hancko and Xavi but that's it.
Sure, CL would be a nice experience for him, but his runs in Conference League and Europa League includes matches on "CL level" and he performed really well in those.
If there ever was an Eredivisie player ready for a transfer its Kokcu.
Based on overall performance there’s no doubt Kökcü deserves this award. Although Simons has been great as well and is probably the most talented player in the Eredivisie, Kökcü has been performing extremely consistent throughout the season. His stats have been incredible, both offensive and defensive.
I really dislike his attitude towards the OneLove band but in terms of leadership towards his squad, he has been a great captain. Eventhough he’s only 22, he is directing the team. He decides when to press or when to back down, he’s constantly directing where the ball needs to be. When things get rough, he’s the one to light the fire and get his squad back in the game.
Knowing this, he’s probably not going to return to us next season. He’s done with the Eredivisie. I hope he finds a club where he can get enough game time and further his development.
Slot just renewed his contract, Tottenham is off the table for him. Kökcü, who knows?
Dortmund is not likely going to spend more than 40 million on him so I don’t see that happening. Financially, only the Premier League seems likely at this point.
Nah his price tag outgrew us the more he performed this season. We were mentioned to be looking at him early in the season but with Edson Alvarez joining us for a club record fee, I don't see us breaking that record in the same window again for Kökcü, especially since Enzo Le Fee has been getting mentioned frequently with us in 2023
There were rumoured sightings of Haller and Kehl going inside a gay bar where Haller romantically whispered in his ear to buy his mate at all costs. They exchanged a short glance at the end of it and Haller smiled for a brief moment before looking away and raising his drink. Kehl was supposedly blushing and when Haller excused himself to go to the bathroom Kehl whipped out his phone (OnePlus 10 Pro), contacted " the senile old man" and told him to put aside €35 million from the budget for next season.
Or so I've been told. I wasn't there so maybe the source misunderstood the situation
I'd take him over Alvarez if we were only signing one player to take Bellingham's place but we aren't. My thinking behind us going for Alvarez is that in 2023, Emre Can was so instrumental to the midfield as the 6 (he's also our only DM) and with one year left and decent to high wages, having Alvarez along with Can as options (along with their utility to play CB) is more important to the team.
The idea is that Enzo Le Fee is the second person after Alvarez that we sign for the midfield so it's an option of Edson Alvarez/Enzo Le Fee for like €55-60 million or Kökcü for €45-50 million (could be massively wrong with that price tag since that is a guess on my part)
I really hope for your sake someone in your club's scouting is going to have another look at Alvarez's recent performence. Sure, last year he did alright, but he has be terrible for quite a while now.
He definitely would’ve went to Spurs if we had gotten Slot but now that he’s staying I think it’s a tossup. I still believe he could come but without European football I don’t think we’re as enticing.
“He is the well deserved winner because rarely has a player been chosen Footballer of the Year with such overwhelming force by the large group of 35 ex-internationals and reporters, from which the jury has emerged for over 40 years. Orkun Kökcü has overwhelmingly become the winner of the Golden Shoe for the 2022-2023 season.
The player was surprised this weekend and is deeply impressed by the award, about which he and his father Halis will tell much more. Kökcü, only 22 years old and the great pacesetter of the champion team Feyenoord, was told the result by chief Telesport Marcel van der Kraan.
The latter was allowed to tell him on behalf of internationals such as two-time winner Ruud Gullit, Rafael van der Vaart, Wim Kieft, former national team coach Bert van Marwijk, 1988 European Championship winner Arnold Mühren , 1974 World Cup finalists Arie Haan and 1978 World Cup finalists Ernie Brandts and Jan Poortvliet and many others that his own soccer shoe of this year will, according to tradition, go to the goldsmith and return as a major trophy in his career.
Father Halis Kökcü, who besides Orkun has another son (Ozan) who is a professional soccer player, looked on with emotion and pride when the captain was told that after the national title, he also received the biggest individual prize of this season.
The ex-internationals put PSV's Xavi Simons, who is shared top scorer of the season, in spot two. The third spot is for Kökcü's teammate David Hancko. Interestingly, among the first six in the rankings are four Feyenoorders, as Santiago Gimenez was fourth and Lutsharel Geertruida, just behind AZ player Tijani Reijnders sixth.
Former international Rinus Israël, who himself won the European Cup 1 with Feyenoord, believes the 22-year-old Kökcü has risen above everything and everyone else. "In this season he was so positive in the picture. He was conditionally very strong, always found space for himself and constantly looked for depth. That, along with his excellent passing, is his strongest point. I enjoy his kicking technique and his overview," Israel said.
Xavi Simons is also incredibly talented, but in the eyes of 'Iron' Rinus all he needs is body and resilience to take the final step. "Technically he is so gifted. He is quick sees the game. He scores a lot and lets others score. But he should not roll down the field after every contact with an opponent. That point needs to improve. If he plays soccer with the right attitude, he will also have a great future."
The Footballer of the Year classification has been organized by De Telegraaf for 41 seasons and has a great tradition in many seasons before this, partly in cooperation with the KNVB and the VVCS. Martin Haar was the first winner of the official ranking in the Eredivisie in the 1981-1982 season. Kökcü is now the successor to Cody Gakpo, who was last year's winner and made a big transfer following his selection.”
>The ex-internationals put PSV's Xavi Simons, who is shared top scorer of the season, in spot two. The third spot is for Kökcü's teammate David Hancko.
Nice to see Hanci so high, miss him so much.
He has been extremely good for us. Unbelievable some PL club didn’t jump on him last season. He didn’t even need to adjust, he’s been great immediately. Also just a really likeable guy.
Looking at his most recent interview, he’s probably not leaving. He was really looking forward to playing CL next season and Feyenoord has no reason to sell at this point. Only if a crazy offer comes along.
He’s definitely better than Senesi. He’s more agile and also really quick.
I’d have to see him with a Sinisterra type winger who makes deep runs behind enemy lines, he showed he can deliver nice long balls but our wingers usually play with their backs toward the goal. Still, Senesi really had a great long ball. Fair point.
I can't believe Feyenoord managed to sign Hancko. He has been such a steal. No doubt best defender in the Netherlands, altough Geertruida is pretty close.
He is a lot better than Senesi, especially with the ball.
This kid is insane watched some of feyenoords Europa league matches and his brain/play iq is 1-2 levels above most of his team mates especially the dudes they used in attack and side wings made me feel sorry for some of the balls he delivered in how they were treated. He def seems ready to play for a team with better wingers and strikers to get that assist count up higher. Really interesting to see who decides to pick him up or where he would fit in currently.
A bundesliga switch to someone like Dortmund might not be a bad step up but dortmunds midfielders for some reason tends to end up injury prone atleast since the Kehl days it’s felt like that.
You guys must hate us now, no?😅 i think we got Kokcu and Aursnes really cheap... Aursnes was the mvp of portugal league 22/23, he saved us by playing a few games in the right back... he played everywhere here. One question, did Feyenoord played with just them in the midfield? or 3
Always three!
Not really, our record transfer is 25M so 30M + 20% of his rights is actually quite a good deal for our standards. I know some people are though, some were even expecting 50M but that’s just not realistic for us.
Losing Aursnes was tough but we got him for only 500K ourselves and that deal helped us become financially stable and made room for Wieffer, who is potentially even better.
I think both of our clubs benefitted from these deals so cheers to you guys. Make sure to sell Kökcü for 100M now.
Aursnes is 27y old idk if we're gonna profit in € but wtv, its already worth it. Kokcu yeah for sure +100M. If we sold Felix for 126M and Enzo for 120M, i think we can sell Kokcu also around that €
Please dont blame a 22 year old for not wanting to get constant death threats. He never said he is homophobid, he just said that because of religious reasons he is not the right person to make such statements. He plays for the Turkish national team and he could literally be in danger if he publicly supported the one love action.
> He plays for the Turkish national team and he could literally be in danger if he publicly supported the one love action.
Nah, he'll be fine. Taylan Antalyalı of Galatasaray publicly supports LGBT rights and is fine. Burak Yılmaz wore the one love armband in the Netherlands and is fine. Orkun Kökçü doesn't even live in Turkey, the worst thing that could happen is he won't be called up.
Honestly, we need him in the national team more than he needs us to boost his career. Any significant backlash would also seriously affect our ability to convince any Turks born and raised in Europe to come and play for our national team.
> he just said that because of religious reasons he is not the right person to make such statements.
It's only an armband, he is not exactly expected to be atop a wagon during the Pride Parade, if your religion witholds you from doing the absolute bare minimum you can say you respect people all you want but your actions show that you clearly do not.
Nice to know something is insignificant for you until someone else also says it is insignificant but can get him and his family into huge trouble and acts accordingly by simply not wearing it and then suddenly you do care
I understood, and even though I could never imagine myself in a position like that and have a bit more sympathy for him because of your comment I still disagree with it and find it weak behaviour from him. It would mean so much more because it would show him not backing down. Imagine how much it would mean for Turkish people who are lgbtq.
Can't blame the 22 year old, can't blame the religion, what can be blamed? He doesn't have to say anything and just wear the armband. It's not some grand fucking gesture. 22 years old, that's old enough to see that there is enough of a problem with homophobia in your culture. Instead of doing anything against it, he's going with it. Awesome guy.
It's very easy to say. Also, what country is Kokcu born in? And before you go say the obvious thing, I'm born into a Greek family. Let's not pretend they aren't pretty fucking religious as well. I have family members who are, for example, anti-vax religious dumbasses. I don't speak to them anymore. You make it harder than it has to be. Good people are good people, shitty people are shitty people. Family or not.
You are not a public figure though. If kokcu wears that armband it will be shown in turkey and his relatives pay the price. So yes it is indeed very easy to say, but not really thought out. Your situation is not comparable to his
>22 years old, that's old enough to see that there is enough of a problem with homophobia in your culture.
That’s your opinion, if you come from a conservative background you know it doesn’t work like that. Honestly, we shouldn’t force a political statement on a 22year old athlete. Let him form his own opinion on this.
It means much more if people choose to support the action themselves anyway.
There are plenty of people from conservative backgrounds that will see that, what makes him special that I should look the other way and think he's a good guy? Both parts of that statements are not opinion, they are facts. 22 years is old enough and there is a problem with homophobia in his culture.
It's funny how people call soccer player douchebags for schwalbes and stuff, but not for this. This shit is so much more important than however they play the game.
Denk is gonna be arguing in the Tweedekamer that he "cannot have an opinion" and is being cancelled and free speech is dead, when despite most people disagreeing with him, he is being adored and rewarded left and right for his great football play and the whole thing doesn't really matter for his career at all; moreover, he's basically now a promotor of his beliefs in the country and a precedent that it's totally fine.
Please dont blame a 22 year old for not wanting to get constant death threats. He never said he is homophobid, he just said that because of religious reasons he is not the right person to make such statements. He plays for the Turkish national team and he could literally be in danger if he publicly supported the one love action.
What danger? He's a wealthy man in a wealthy country. Imo if he wants to live and work in a society that values people even if they're gay, then fucking act like it. Boohoo, he gets death threats in his million euros home, with money he made from a sport where there's still a lot of anti-gay sentiment. Cry me a river and fuck off
I understand why he got it, he was the leader and best player of a league winning side, so it's hard to argue against him.
Though I personally would have given it to Simons. He dragged his mostly dysfunctional team to a second place and seemed to be the only one capable of creating anything after Gakpo left. Individually by far the best player in the league imo
I really thought that Xavi Simons would get it. He just seemed like a leader in all those ratings and he was so outstanding in PSV.
But that's the common story, I also think of one player who individually played really great. He was really good, played in 34 games and was his team's outstanding player with skill surpassing Eredivisie level. That was Dusan Tadić. I think that if the season wasn't seen as such a big disappointment for Ajax, he could be up there with the way he plays.
Kökcü is not an offensive player so that’s not really a good argument imo. Also, he has about 11 expected assists, which tells his teammates haven’t always been that effective with converting the chances he created. Looking at stats like ball recoveries in the final third, progressive passes, key passes or created chances, which paint a better picture for his position, Kökcü is always first or at least in the top of the Eredivisie.
Santi next year, when he gets to play from the start of the season. 💪🏼
He was still in the top 10 though, weirdly enough. Had a bit of a rough start in the Eredivisie before the winter break.
Yeah if I’m going to have to compare him to someone it’s probably Nunez? Tall and strong but surprisingly quick and agile for his size. His passing game needs work and his ball control on volleys is not great but he’s a clean finisher and a great header.
It would be better if he can train with players that are better so he really needs to work to get into the first eleven.
Perhaps a wintertransfer after the 6 champions league matches. Best of both worlds for him personally, but clubs often don’t prefer winter transfers.
He'd be great under Ten Hag.

United need bodies in midfield, Sabitzer going back and unlikely to be signed, plus the club wanting to move on from Mctominay (possibly Fred too). He would get plenty of minutes and Malacia showed that gritty players like them can be very decent for United.
He'd compete with Eriksen for the 8 position.
McFred, both leaving this summer, hopefully
Will be very surprised if Dortmund break their transfer record for an Eredivisie player
They already did with Haller lol, and most likely will do it again with Alvarez.
They'd be fools if they did though
They would be crazy to pay that much for Alvarez. Don't get me wrong he is a decent player, but not unique or well rounded enough for Dortmund.
they came close to their transfer record with an Eredivisie player though, Malen and Haller were both 5 or 4 million off
They broke it with Haller
Isn’t going to be enough for Kökcü though.
BVB with the Euro Turk central midfield: Can,Özcan and Kökcü. Might get some new revenues from Turkish viewers with that
He really could excel playing the Xhaka role at Arsenal.
Would be a downgrade for Arsenal. Doesn't have the duel winning ability of Xhaka.
Obviously, Kökcü is not at the level of Xhaka yet. But don’t forget, Xhaka hasn’t been undisputed in the past either. Tbf, Feyenoord's wingers are probably the worst of the Eredivisie top 5 and Gimenez mostly picked up form the 2nd half of the season
He's a very good player, but unfortunately will be way out of our budget.
Welcome to Benfica. Midfield with Kokcu + Aursnes... it's gonna be a interesting season!
I’m very curious for our friendly this summer!

Any significant backlash would also seriously affect our ability to convince any Turks born and raised in Europe to come and play for our national team.
Nobody will do anything to him for supporting LGBT rights we arent a middle east country. (Not yet at least)
> he just said that because of religious reasons he is not the right person to make such statements. It's only an armband, he is not exactly expected to be atop a wagon during the Pride Parade, if your religion witholds you from doing the absolute bare minimum you can say you respect people all you want but your actions show that you clearly do not.
That is such a dumb argument. If its "only an armband" then why are you so mad he doesnt wear it.
It was insignificant until he (and Reduan El Yaakoubi from Excelsior) proved it wasn't.
Nice to know something is insignificant for you until someone else also says it is insignificant but can get him and his family into huge trouble and acts accordingly by simply not wearing it and then suddenly you do care
You either don't understand the point i made in my comment, or you are being a troll
If its not some "grand fucking gesture" then why are you so mad he does not wear it. Its only an armband after all
Because it's like the bare minimum. It just shows what he thinks about gay people. And it's not good.
It shows that he does not want his family to receive backlash at home thanks to as you call it yourself, a not even grand gesture
If you and your family receive backlash because of you supporting gay people, it might be time to rethink what religion you and your family belong to.
Easy to say being born in the most accepting country in the world lmao
"Oh no I am getting canceled" says man on his own television program on national TV
Homophobic cunt
Please dont blame a 22 year old for not wanting to get constant death threats. He never said he is homophobid, he just said that because of religious reasons he is not the right person to make such statements. He plays for the Turkish national team and he could literally be in danger if he publicly supported the one love action.
What danger? He's a wealthy man in a wealthy country. Imo if he wants to live and work in a society that values people even if they're gay, then fucking act like it. Boohoo, he gets death threats in his million euros home, with money he made from a sport where there's still a lot of anti-gay sentiment. Cry me a river and fuck off
Wow, you're being so friendly for one that's supposedly defending something that also represents "love and peace".
Kenneth Taylor?
De prijs voor sukkel van het jaar moet nog worden uitgereikt.
Voor Taylor of voor Amssssterdam?
It was a close call after his amazing performance at Emmen where he snoered a lot of mondjes but in the end he met his match in Kökcü.
I think Kokcu could be a close third right behind Taylor and Ocampos.
Ocampos unironically the only Ajax player who had a successful season.
💀💀💀
Je humor lijkt helaas niet op prijs gesteld. Ik denk zelf dat Dilrosun, Rensch en Uldrikis ook wel meer overwogen hadden mogen worden.
Sanchez eerder dan Rensch maar prima top 3 lijkt me
Vlap robbed.
Gakpo robbed.
It is player of the year and not "player of the fall"
Robbed himself when he left the league in January.
Great player, but 8 goals and 3 assists in the league aren't impressive stats. I think Simons deserved it more.
If football is only about stats, then stop watching.
Doing your username proud
Should have been Santi but this works too.
Santi next year, when he gets to play from the start of the season. 💪🏼 He was still in the top 10 though, weirdly enough. Had a bit of a rough start in the Eredivisie before the winter break.
Milan has been " linked" with him. I am just curiosed, what kind of player he is ? A pure 9 ?
Yeah if I’m going to have to compare him to someone it’s probably Nunez? Tall and strong but surprisingly quick and agile for his size. His passing game needs work and his ball control on volleys is not great but he’s a clean finisher and a great header.
