Less than 2 months old, used 6 times, everything seems tight. Should I return to Home Depot for new brand?

So handle is broke? What am I looking at?

dirtiehippie710

Sorry! Very flimsy which makes it difficult to push and use and noticed the handle is "stuck" to the left (which i was trying to show)

Nthepeanutgallery

Could it maybe be stuck to the left like that because something on the right side has extended too far out?

dirtiehippie710

One bolt almost looks stripped but it was kinda loosey goosey from the get go. I thought it was maybe normal until it got in its current shape with very minimal use

acgeek

I had this same issue with mine. I took it back to Home Depot and purchased an EGO. I love the EGO mower and couldn't be happier with it. I have stuck with 18v Ryobi trimmer, egder and blower because they are drastically cheaper than the other EGO yard tools and handle my yard without issues.

dirtiehippie710

How much did the ego run ya for a comparable model? I have the ryobi trimmer/edger and don't mind it although it's definitely not made for someone over 6 feet or so lol

acgeek

The EGO mower is 21in 56v 7.5Ah battery and it ran me $503 after tax. The Ryobi I had was 20in 40v 6Ah battery and was a little over $400. The EGO was well worth the extra $100 as the Ryobi struggled to get through my yard in one battery. The EGO does the entire yard including cutting two directions and has battery to spare. The build quality seems much better than the Ryobi model I had(RY401120).

If you decide to go with something else, Ego makes the best lawn care tools by far. Love my 30+ Ryobi tools and batteries but the large tools just aren’t on par with some other brands unfortunately.

valdocs_user

Ego is the Tesla of electric lawnmowers.

slowrie23

Absolutely. They first showed up on the shelves at home depot many moons ago.

qquwn

Now they’re gone from HD and only at Lowe’s and Ace.

slowrie23

Yes, ‘twas quite a surprise when I heard that. Ryobi must’ve payed home depot a very nice chunk of change to be the exclusive battery powered lawn tools in store.

qquwn

HD carries Ryobi, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, and Toro outdoor battery-powered lawn tools and Ryobi, DeWalt, and Toro battery-powered mowers. Ryobi is certainly the largest offering at HD but not the only.

slowrie23

My store only has ryobi battery mowers but does have a few of the others mixed in with weed eaters and blowers and such. Hand tools they have all those listed though.

qquwn

Interesting, the DeWalt line replaced the EGO bay in my store. We don’t have any riders though so our push mower selection might be larger than other stores.

rogun64

So where do you buy Makita and Milwaukee mowers? It wasn't too long ago that Home Depot sold Honda mowers, but I've been thinking the options have seemed pretty slim lately at my store.

qquwn

AFAIK Milwaukee doesn’t make mowers (at least not yet). Makita has a few cordless push mowers available on HD.com. They’re not sold at my store but they have a store SKU listed so they might be available at some locations.

rogun64

Yeah, I noticed that after asking. They also have Honda mowers available online.

Iamdyland

I probably would or call Ryobi just to see what either one could do for you, I’ve had the same one for the over a year mowing almost once a week in the summer and it’s not like that, but also side note where did you get that side discharge attachment for it? I’ve been looking for one

dirtiehippie710

Good call I will give them a jingle. I get 2.5 mows or so per charge so my lawn is not big at all. I'm somewhat disappointed since I was hyping them up at work lol. I got it in HDs website for $30 or so. Was semi upset it didn't come standard with it, I didn't even realize push mowers didn't do that by default!

Iamdyland

Yeah same here, I actually got mine as a refurbished one from hd for cheaper they said a customer returned for an issue so I’m assuming they have some kind of return policy, and I’ll have to look for it thanks!

Here's a link! https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-40V-Lawn-Mower-Side-Discharge-Accessory-AC40VSD01/308939572

Iamdyland

Out of stock at my store 🥲 but getting one shipped now lol thanks again!

Sandlotje

Wow, that sucks! I've got an almost identical one and I've had it two years without any issues. My advice is this: If you're in the Ryobi ecosystem and if you were happy with the mower (aside from the fact that it broke so soon), just get another one. I'd double check the reviews to see if the hardware failure you experienced is a known issue with that particular model. If you're not partial to the Ryobi ecosystem in any way, then take a step back and re-evaluate your options. You might even want to look at Lowe's. Both Kobalt *and* Craftsman tools carry great warranties. When a tool breaks, take it to a Lowe's near you and they just swap it out for a new one in store as long as it's within the warranty period (my experience at least). Of course, you should double check this if you go this route... I would assume garden tool warranties are handled just like regular power tools, but it's best to double check.

dirtiehippie710

Just get a new one as in buy another or return this one? I don't have the box since everyone was telling me the only issue is batteries wearing out but have the receipt on my buddies Pro X account or whatever they call it

Sandlotje

You're still in the 90-day return window. You sound call your local HD, explain the situation and ask what your options are, and which option they recommend. I don't think they need the box... I think retail stores usually require box, manual, etc. so that merchandise returned in perfect condition can just go right back to the floor... that mower definitely isn't going back to the floor lol. I think we can safely assume the missing box is the least of anyone's concern. 😅

say592

You shouldnt buy another. You are under warranty. Give Ryobi a call or take it back to HD and they should take care of you.

Rustywrench08

Kinda looks like it fell off a truck. The handle is racked. Just call Ryobi and explain how this may have occurred.

dirtiehippie710

It's came normal looking albeit flimsy feeling even out of the box

Lotronex

I've had the same happen, its the light gray handle locks. Unlock both, fully extend the handle and lock them back down.

dirtiehippie710

I will try tinkering with it again. I just feel like I should have to be doing much of anything with it this early but hopefully its an easy fix I overlooked

Sielanas

That's an awful lot to now have second thoughts

dirtiehippie710

Awful lot of what?

Adoraballsack

Looks like the left side handle mount is bent outwards. The right one is tucked close to the body of the mower as they both should be. You shouldn't be seeing that huge gap between the handle and mower. I'd see if any bolts for that mount are loose or missing, and if not, slam it a couple times with a hammer to see if it bends back in.
