So no need to spray? I wouldn’t typically go for the pesticides like I did but I’ve legit never seen such a giant bug so I panicked. I know that’s silly but also why I’m asking for help. Rather not go killing things if it’s not necessary.
I feel like if you're going to kill it you might as well crush it rather than slowly torture it with poison.
Also, isn't this outside? If so I would err on leaving outdoor things be. Unless it's a spotted lanternfly.
Protip: use Google image search next time.
How's the lantern fly situation looking here? I've heard they're here, but this is only the second time I've heard them mentioned and it feels like we need everyone to know about these things.
It does a little! I only saw it bc my dog started barking like crazy at the back of the chair. All I could see from the front was the huge legs and thought I’d find a monster spider attached. I’ve seen similar bugs but not any that were this large.
some manner of assassin bug. They won't bite you unless you provoke them, but their bites can be very painful.
They eat many pest category of insects, so it's best to leave them be. They are not territorial, the only way to provoke them into biting is to physically disturb them.
The first time I saw a wheel bug I thought it was fake 😂 if I remember correctly it's related to the praying mantis? They're so cool when the sunlight hits them because they have a shiny area on their backs!
That is a do not touch bug. Wheel bugs from the look of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arilus_cristatus
Thank you! I sprayed it with pesticide and put a glass over it (them??) but I’m so grossed out.
Wheel Bugs are good bugs, they eat the bad bugs in gardens

I'd err toward keeping them away from areas people frequent. Their sting is astoundingly painful and lasts for days.
I don’t blame you, looks like a cricket type of spider.

Seems like they don’t need any help at all…giggity.
THANK Y’ALL FOR THE QUICK ANSWERS! I swear I’ve never before seen a wheel bug as big as this one but promise to not panic kill any more of them.
that's not one wheel bug, it's two wheel bugs fuckin'.
You could say things were getting wheely hot and heavy
The wheel of life is going round.
They’re just good friends.
_and they were roommates_

Those look like six legged buck fuddies.
wheel bugs are great for a healthy garden, they also aren't aggressive, that being said, I heard it's not fun when they get ya.
Ah, yes. The elusive North American rape beetle.
