One of those tracks. I remember listening to it the first time.
Those initial chiming sounds with the percussive sounds. Then you hear Thom’s voice “Then into your life, there comes the darkness” and you just feel like you’re melting into a literal moon shaped pool.
I think I remember hearing that the song was a big driving creative force for Denis Villeneuve’s film Arrival. The guy used ‘You and whose army’ to perfection in Incendies.
But back to the song. Shit is just beautifully composed to pin you in this feeling of otherworldly grim bliss. Definitely a 10 for me on the album. Which is funny because I was expecting to love Identikit the most.
But Deck’s Dark, Ful Stop and The Numbers ended up being my favourites.
9.5 - great groove and sound production. Love the lyrics, ominous and world ending, yet the music indicates it doesn't really matter. Then it changes up at the end, great fun

This is one of my favorite Radiohead songs ever and a true testament to their talent. I've never heard a song sound so effortless? Idk this song it just sounds like a bunch of masters of their craft firing on all cylinders. It's so unbelievably smooth and flawless, every part of the song just feels like it belongs. Thom sings with this sort of lackadaisical/defeated swagger yet it also fits the melancholic vibe of the rest of the album. Also really love the lyrics and the parallels to Subterranean Homesick Alien whether intentional or not. God I love Decks Dark.
3rd best song on AMSP, it's so good and catchy and I love the middle part a lot. Beautiful stuff that's representative of the album's strengths in one song. 9
Ya gotta be kiddin me... the grass grows over me.
9.8/10
The piano work with the loops on this entire fucking record are surreal and lush. Take some psychedelics if you're a knowledgeable adult and listen you will be absolutely floored.
The guitars at the end of this song are so epic
10. From the meticulous layering to the awesome production to the mystical lyrics and the jazzy reverb-y Greenwood “solo” at the end this is probably the best song on the album and one of Radiohead’s best ever.
9.3. It’s brilliant. My only reservation about it is that it’s a touch… restrained. Even live they never really let it kick. Compared to how their live versions usually stand a foot taller this one never caught fire, say in the same way Identikit didn
I wonder if they’d written it in the OKC/Kid A/HTTT years what the production would have been like. Much heavier I suspect and it might have benefited.
Would love to hear demos or alternative takes of it.
Anyway, what a song!
9/10 for me. I've been a Radiohead fan for over 3 years now and considered them to be one of my favorites for that long too, but when I heard Decks Dark for the first time in like March, it reminded me of the eerie beauty of alot of their music and got me obsessed with them once again. So I listened to A Moon Shaped Pool, their other albums by them I hadn't heard yet, relistened to the stuff by them I had heard and realized, "yeah, this is some of the best shit imaginable."
I also watched Manchester by The Sea for the first time around this time, which was a pretty good, but depressing movie, so whenever I hear Decks Dark, I always think of that film and its characters
Here we have another **10/10** song, continuing AMSP’s hot streak.
Pianos are used to great effect here, the best part they’re used in has to be the beginning of the song, where the trilling piano is suddenly interspersed with a looping piano tune as Thom’s vocals begin.
One of their most dreadful songs, and I mean that positively. The piano that flows through the song gives it a really good tension from the beginning. It is incredibly calm yet there’s a tension to it that really sticks
8/10
8/10 | Great
Really moody, chilly tune. Nice and dark. I always wanted it to open up into a big climax in the back half, but that’s not necessarily the MSP way, is it?
The darker, deeper sequel to Subterranean Homesick Alien...but just as beautiful. I love the way they're able to make this song both spooky and give it a swagger, and the choir in this and Present Tense are two of my highlights from AMSP.
9.2
10
You gotta be kidding me
The grass grows over me
Your face in the glass, in the glass
It was just a laugh, just a laugh
It's whatever you say it is
Split infinity
10. I love the way lyrics are backed up by the music. Also the drum/piano motifs are just as obscure as the theme of the song (and, IMO, the album's theme)
10. A masterpiece. Second best song on the album. I love this song, one of my favourites in their entire back catalogue. The part “ Into our darkest hour” leads into one of the greatest pieces of music they’ve ever produced. The choir, the melody. The bass. Perfect. The rest of the album doesn’t match up to the first three songs for me. Bar a couple of tracks.
Doesn’t translate as well live which is a shame.
10
This is my favorite off of the album. The intro has that bizarre MIDI Piano(?) that sounds so new but so Radiohead. And with the drums and the piano there is already a brooding swagger. The choir was such a shock moment when I first heard it and I remember hearing it for the first time on a walk on a gray Seattle morning and kind of gasping. I really love the outro with the guitar/piano riff Jonny does and Colin’s funky bass.
8. Beautiful production and progression. It's like a sequel to subterranean Homesick Alien and four minute warning. Definitely a highlight on the album. Feels like a very Radiohead song. Like one only they would do
8. It’s got moments where it shines but doesn’t really offer anything new to me. When I first heard it I thought that it seemed like Radiohead was doing a slow dive into dad rock. None of this is suggest that it’s a bad song, but I find it never really takes off like I want it to.
10/10
I can never skip this song. Dark apocalyptic themes and chatchy courses have me singing along.
"Then in your life, there comes the darkness
There's a spacecraft blocking out the sky
And there's nowhere to hide."
10 - amazing music, amazing lyrics. Masterpiece.

Wow! Great post 👍
There's 10 spacecraft blocking out the sky
^^THIS!^^
My guy it's the best song in the album. 10/10
Present tense though
2nd best. Identikit is on this album too.. haha.
Broken heaaarts
Make it rainnnnnn

Make it raiain
9.5 - great groove and sound production. Love the lyrics, ominous and world ending, yet the music indicates it doesn't really matter. Then it changes up at the end, great fun
9.5, it's near-perfect. Best track on AMSP and just beautiful to listen to. The build-up and drop towards the end is transcendent
10 The bassline alone deserves the highest possible score. Another defining song of the album, probably the most obscure.
10

10 My instant favorite song of AMSP and has now grown as one of my favorite track of RH.
10 my anxiety in a song has never sounded so gorgeous

10 too ; the way this song feels is just indescribable but wonderful
It's a 10. I love Jonnys Guitar part near the end and the general feeling of the song. It reminds me of a cold lonely winter for some reason.
Strong 10, it's peak Radiohead. I find it amazing that they can pull off this quality of songs this late in their career
10. One of their bleakest songs ever
10 It’s my alarm ringtone so the first thing I hear when I wake up every morning
Beautiful follower to Daydreaming. Really great start to this album. 9

10!
10/10 no doubt

10 My favorite on AMSP and a real grower that took me by surprise over time. Absolutely love this one.
10, because of the ten ton head, made of wet sand... I love this song!
10/10 2nd best Radiohead song after Pyramid Song
10 but I wish I could go higher. Absolutely my favorite Radiohead song. Johnny’s outro is 🔥.

9, probably my 3rd favorite song on the album

9.8. One of my favs ever
8.2. Really love the attention to detail in this song and the groove it gets into at the end. The lyrics are great to.
