More like after/before

IAmDaven

Are you sure? Maybe I turned a zed bunker into a pancake house.

AluminiumCucumbers

In that case great job. Really nailed that IHOP feel

IAmDaven

Nothing but flapjacks and death around these parts.

Lorandagon

I'm very concerned about what your making flapjacks out of. :< (nice base)

endofautumn

Jacks flaps.

Trogladonis

I like the open bedroom concept. Even a claustrophobic would likely be ok in this space.

IAmDaven

My bed room has walls in the top north room, it has guns and ammo in it just incase, but to make it I had to tear down some walls/frame/plaster/paint,

Startled_Pancakes

Did tearing down walls causing any issues with the indoor lighting? I had some lighting glitches when i did this on b40.

TesticleOfTruth

Sometimes the game will think that new area is outside, but when you re-launch it will fix itself

IAmDaven

Sorry for the copy pasta Great question! I t feels like those rooms got a bit darker so I added a couple of lamps I pillaged from the appliance store. Made all of the difference in the world. https://imgur.com/a/IvcoLJc

Startled_Pancakes

Hmm... for me if my back was turned to where a wall used to be it would black out everything behind it as if the wall was still there blocking line of sight, but if I turned to face it I could see normally. It's sort of hard to describe, but it wasn't something that could've been solved by an extra lamp. If it's not doing that to you, then they must've fixed the issue.

SgtMeteora

what the hell. DID YOU ACTUALLY MAKE IT?!

IAmDaven

Had to steal quite a few display cases...

Joe-The-Philistine

That looks awesome! You’re braver than I, setting up shop at a location with that many windows. I don’t see any in the picture, are there any curtains covering those windows? And with the sandbags, I’m guessing the zeds have to destroy those before they can actually try and smack the glass?

ButtonsTheSecond

it looks like metal sheet (?) things are welded onto the windows, you can weld them on and they'll serve the same purpose as wooden boards

Joe-The-Philistine

The more you know! Thanks for the info, 90 hours in and had no clue

Catman933

You need a welding mask and a torch. Metal sheets are strongest barricade you can attach to windows and doors and you only need one.

IAmDaven

Cosmetically I like metal bars way better because you can see through them still and let in some light. But these windows don't look right with bars on them because of the size.

Catman933

I’m with you there. Sheeted bars are vastly superior but are a bit more of a nuisance. You should be able to put bars on these ones too. It might look jank but they will fully function. Likewise you can put curtains on full wall windows and it’ll still block 100% of the window even though the sheet only covers some of it visually

IAmDaven

You can replace wooden barricades with metal sheets over time. The sandbags don't seem to stop movement so its kind of sad. But I thought they looked cool, so it's more or less cosmetic now.

merryman1

> The sandbags don't seem to stop movement so its kind of sad. You could replace with wire fences maybe? That would still look pretty cool and be functional. Just an idea!

Startled_Pancakes

Yeah wire fences are great because you can still shoot and stab through them.

Sedatsu

Again. I don’t understand how people get here I just can’t. I’m fairly decently good at dayz but this game confuses me

TripleSpicey

Basically, you make this a goal from the start. Scope out a building you want to do this to, start collecting shelves, lockers, ect. Begin clearing zombies too. Start stockpiling supplies somewhere close by, but relatively safer. Survive the heli, then continue to work on it. Keeping zombies away from it is key, so don’t hang around it while it’s half complete. Keep getting supplies, grinding skills, ect. Then, when you’re finally ready, start with the defenses first. Once it’s a fortress, you can start moving all your hard earned shit in. The biggest hurtle is staying motivated, because one good horde could roll in while it’s half done and trash the shit out of it. After you’re finished, post it on Reddit and enjoy!

Dayemos

Impressive! How did you find that many sacks though?

IAmDaven

I've got a secret stash of sacks. Edit: If you stop by places like the farming supply in Dixie you can find 20 or so bags, That place also has a gun store and tons of fertilizer.

TripleSpicey

I’ve noticed that warehouses out in farmland usually have a bunch

merryman1

Looks amazing! Inspired me to start up a new character this weekend :D

IAmDaven

Go for it!

Beginning-Tea-17

*Sees two players on a wide screen* Wait that’s illegal

RocketDavide

Awesome build! just curious, i imagine there is a generator somewhere around there, where did you place it? and is it always on? I'm still pretty unexperienced :)

IAmDaven

I currently have a generator hooked up on the outside. You have to run it if you want to keep your fridges on after blackout. (also to run the washer dryer for a bit of roleplay) DONT put it inside, from all that I've read you will die from the exhaust.

BattleWagon1579

Sheeeesh

Kronic_Respawn

looks really really good

[deleted]

Nice work. Did knocking down walls cause any lighting issues? I wonder if built-in ceiling lights cease to function if you change the walls underneath them, or remove duplicate light switches.

IAmDaven

Great question! I t feels like those rooms got a bit darker so I added a couple of lamps I pillaged from the appliance store. Made all of the difference in the world. *https://imgur.com/a/IvcoLJc*

Punchedmango422

Where did you get the flooring, did you find it in during looting or took it from houses.

IAmDaven

You can crowbar that stuff. I spent a looong time on my last build ripping up floors to try and make an indoor greenhouse. Actually I like replacing floors, stock floors age really bad and change colors. They look dirty most of the time.
