I think it was overlooked, perhaps the wild last deadlift world record pull as well, but Blake Lehew is now the best raw 181 in the world, breaking Haacks record by 2.5kg with a 2006 total.
Cant help but feel like his deadlifts don't really ever look "clean".
His 3rd pull is reds for me.
Reminds me a bit of Wierzbicki, never looks properly locked out/"clean".
That’s gotta be weird for Haack to watch in person. I wonder what was going through his head on Blake’s last pull. You want a man to succeed but also you don’t want to see your WR get broken.
Here's the flights: https://www.instagram.com/p/CYxlpWHAgut/
Yesterday all 4 flights did their Squats, before moving on to bench and so on. I can't see anywhere that today would be different so I'm assuming that all 3 flights will run throughout the day, which starts 9 AM local time (EST)
I doubt he even thinks he’ll be able to get it. Penson hit 400 at the Kern. Most Haack has in comp is 340. He hit 347.5 in training at what he called RPE 8 so still far off and that’s probably at like 210lbs or more.
I think he realizes without wraps it’s a long shot and he refuses to use them
This time I think it was a small depth miss.
He really seems unstable in the bottom position idk if it's the injury coming back or if it's just his bad luck on meet squats
I noticed it in training as well. The RPE 8 squat I mentioned above looked similar. In all honesty it’s probably because there is such a large load on the spine and erectors when you have that much weight doing high bar. It works for Haack because his back is so fucking strong but IIRC one of the big advantages of low bar over high is shifting of forces that allows your back to handle more weight.
Also I’m not suggesting Haack should switch to low bar before anyone says that
I think it's also his form, not just high bar. His way of squatting requires a lot of dorsiflexion and it looks like he really keeps the pressure on the quads. The bottom position seems like he is not able to push his knees as far as he'd need very comfortably, and here the quads are really working hard for stability, hence the injuries. His squats looked like this even in the IPF days.
Yeah. Even going for the raw no wraps squat seems to be out of reach. I think 365 is the full power raw no wraps, and like you said, he is still a bit away from that
Yeah, I think his squat is his “worst” which is still absurd haha. But I know he’s always talked about how he hates wraps but whatever he does it works for him.
Also a funny thing I noticed when looking up the records on open lifting but there’s some random typo or something for the 82.5 bench record for some guy named [jose Soto who benched 370KG @82.5KG](https://www.openpowerlifting.org/u/josesoto).
He took a very aggressive third attempt of 370 after missing his second at 135KG. I think someone should tell Julius Maddox the 800lb Bench mark has already fallen
Jose hmmm Soto....must be the guy who beat larry wheels in his first strongman competition
Someone needs to tell Victor martinez there'd another Dominican dominator
His squat was actually his best lift when he competed in the IPF. But quad injuries over the years have really prevented it from taking off like his other two lifts when he switched to untested.
Unreal squats from Samantha Rice, just utterly perfect technique

Blake is going to end up totaling over 2100 in wraps @181

Griffin Uhl. That name scares me
This stream was a million times better than last year!! Future events need to take note
Haack still got the raw record no? Belkin 972.5, Haack 990...
Nooo Brad. Felt so bad for him, he looked so sad. Was an insane lift tho.
That was rough. Moved so easy too.
Yep. Would've loved to see his third attempt.
brb. getting a pair of shoes with LED's so I can lift like Haack lol
Given that 3rd bench attempt from john haack,i would have checked for bench shirts too, shit was fast
That's fucking stoopid
Does anyone remember what jamal hit on 2nd bench and what he failed on 3rd?
217.5 on 2nd. 227.5 on 3rd.
It’s so refreshing watching a livestream with good angles and with quality commentators.
For real quality was insane for this meet, and it was free.
Haack's first bench... jeez louise that was fast.
Must be the light-up shoes.
First thing I'm bringing up next time someone asks if Haack is better than Ed Coan
Those light up shoes distracted me so much I almost missed the 2nd attempt entirely lol
You and Angelo both!
This meet has been fayntaystic.
Haack’s 2nd squat walkout was shaky as hell. Unreal that he actually got it. Edit: Judges are brutal on squats. IPF standards today boys!

That was the second walkout. The first one was way worse and he re-racked.
I just tuned in. What did he end up with on squat and bench?
733 and 586 I believe
I think it was 590
Apparentlyhe has been training with a different bar and wasnt use to the whip on this one.
Been using the kabuki bar lately.

He's in flight C. It is after flight B. You're welcome.

I would love to know too. There doesn't seem to be any program of when the different classes go? Edit: Crl__ posted it above.
Johnnie Hyuck gonna form a singularity after accelerating all the mass beyond lightspeed
I don't know who this Johnnie hyuck is but he sounds like a gary stu
Looks like he will be competing in the 220 weight class, so he will officially take that ATWR as well, considering he doesn’t get hurt.
Must not have thought he could get the weight cut this time.
He said he just couldn't be bothered to cut more since the winner is based on wilks anyways
Figured he was going to try to get the squat ~~and bench~~ records at 198 though. Edit. Forgot he has full power bench
Isnt the bench record 286 or something
280
He already has the bench record in full meet. Not sure he’ll get that squat record.
