In Kpop news, the [end of APRIL](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/see8ey/dsp_media_girl_group_april_has_officially/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) has happened at the end of January

irrelevant2002

not ariana grande posting about an NFT on her insta story...... The proceeds go to an animal shelter though, so maybe it's not that bad?? idfk anymore i just want these celebrities to stop shilling crypto and nft and whatnot. just sell some merch or something if you want money

DavidFC1

That’s unfortunate.

manicpixie_sadgirl

The end of the world is truly boring beyond belief.

mcompt20

nah still shit, shame on Ariana tbh

taylorsalison

versace edited bella and gigi hadid like three whole shades darker in one of their campaign photos. it's really weird because they look like pale af in the rest of the photos in shoot. what they look like in the [cover photo](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FKKDu4paIAAcbb4?format=jpg&name=large), what they look like in the [rest of the photos](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FKKDu3-acAAW4ks?format=jpg&name=medium).

oop_oop

It's so on purpose, even adding that hair to the tan for that photo compared to the other ones.

Doesn't feel like expending the energy to go personally choke them, I guess

KuhBus

Not sure if this was posted yesterday, but [Billie's official twitter](https://twitter.com/billieeilish/status/1486388807528173573) put out a contest for fans to make merch designs and people are tearing it apart for the usual exploitative bs of making fans do work for free.

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Fuck Adobe. Any sane person would pirate their overpriced apps.

ListenThroughTheWall

> making fans do work for free. No one is being made to do anything. That's why the outrage here is kinda silly.

KuhBus

Harnessing a massive fanbase's creative energy for free, instead of shelving over the money to a professional and then essentially stripping not just the winner, but also *everyone who submits an entry* of their rights to their artwork, which makes anyone who submits something to it unable to reuse their design and make money off of it is sketchy, shitty practice any celebrity deserves to be called out for.

mcompt20

It's exploitative spec work that takes advantage of fans good will. It's a terrible practice regardless of who's instigating it.

ListenThroughTheWall

People are free to donate their work if they want. And for the people that don't want to submit anything, then it's the same as the contest not existing at all. For some reason, people are acting like these are artists being contracted for work, then not paid, which isn't what's happening here. Again, no one is being made to do anything and all participation is voluntary. By what definition is that exploitation?

mcompt20

Spec work in itself is an exploitative practice within the creative industry. It's rooted in shoddy practices and t&c's to benefit the sponsor and screw over the people sending in their work. It's why the creative professionals are raising a stink about it bc they want to educate people about it because the crappiness of it isn't well known. If people see that, and still want to submit, go ahead, more power to them, but that doesn't invalidate the practice being exploitative itself and shitty for corporations and brands to continue doing them when there's other avenues they can take, that ends with fans still getting a chance have a piece of art produced without having lots of people be exploited.

DanMcMissile

Do we remember if Katy paid the fans whose CD art she used for special versions of Smile on her web store? At the time I thought it was sweet of her to be so responsive to fan creations but if she didn’t pay them I wonder if that helped this weird precedent…

HausOfMajora

She paid them. She contacted all of them privately to pay them. i remember the twitter exchange.

DanMcMissile

That’s a relief, I’m really glad she paid them duly!

mcompt20

This is unfortunately extremely common and has been for years outside of the music industry. Google's infamous logo design challenge being one of them. The biggest issue beyond getting a bunch of free work to choose from and all the "losers" not being compensated for their time is 99.9% of the time, the "losers" don't even get to retain the rights to their submissions and the contest holder gets to have all of the designs to use for future purposes, but only have to "pay" the handful of winners and runner ups. Edit: a word

DanMcMissile

It really is such a gross practice, every day I learn that the capitalism death wheel can always get worse 🙃

PungentPomegranates

CEO of Sony Music Group, Rob Stringer, said in a new interview for [Billboard](https://www.billboard.com/business/business-news/billboard-2022-power-list-1235022798/amp/) that Adele's album cycle for 30 will last two more years, which I find kind of interesting. Not really sure how much more they can get from that album, we know an I Drink Wine video and a push is coming at some point, and I could see Can I Get It being some kind of hit and a single, but beyond that not sure what else you could do for 2 more years with 30.

aussieririfan

Maybe the Vegas show will be ready then.

Excited for Chris Kirkpatrick from NSYNC and very surprised by Lamar Odom. Todrick Hall hosted last year's BB players at his house for weeks after the game ended, so no surprise there.

succulentils

> Todrick Hall hosted last year's BB players at his house for weeks after the game ended Wait, after last year's contestants filmed the season, they all stayed in LA to continue living together at Todrick's house? Why?

wearingsox

Yes, with work/family all on pause at home they hung out together in LA. It's disorienting getting out of the house, everyone has so many questions. This year the after party was particularly long tho.

acuddleexperiment

> Lamar Odom My dumbass read this as Leslie Odom and wondered if Music was really that bad for his career that he had to appear in Big Brother. Looking forward to Ru girls to poke fun at Toddrick Hall and Carson Kressley.

I already shared this on Daily Discussion, but thought it would also be worth it sharing here as well. In honour of Janet Jackson's upcoming Lifetime documentary to premiere tomorrow, a group of fans created this petition online asking for her team to finally get its act together and fix her YouTube page, make georestricted songs and albums available on streaming services, and potentially release the highly teased tour videos from the Janet. and Rhythm Nation eras. [https://chng.it/KgbYHGCwB2](https://chng.it/KgbYHGCwB2) For those who don't know, Janet's official page is a sad mess, with several videos being region-locked or simply unavailable. They are also poorly ordered, so I imagine this must be a turn-off for anyone interested in getting into her rich and innovative videography. Considering the documentary is bound to reignite interest in her catalogue, it is essential that everything is well-organized and easily accessible for anyone regardless of their location. Janet's legacy has already been done so dirty for years, so this is a great opportunity to finally turn things around. Like many Janet fans, I would really appreciate if you can add your contribution by signing this petition. **Edit:** If you're unfamiliar with Change.org, **don't forget to check your e-mail** to confirm your information for the signature to be validated. I only noticed now that mine hadn't been counted.

Rina received [4 nominations from the Bandlab NME awards](https://twitter.com/rinasawayamabr/status/1486722569797455883?s=21) and she’s set to perform in the awards on March 2nd. I’ve been wondering what song will she perform (we are past the SAWAYAMA + Deluxe era by now) and whether it’s going to be an RS2 related song like Catch Me in The Air or a new single Another thing is of Charli is going to promote Beg For You with performances, so far we are guaranteed to get a MV and a visualizer

mitzimitzi

I hope she does Dynasty tbh. SAWAYAMA never got the awards show performances it deserved. Whilst I like catch me in the air I don't think it's the besssst one to attract any new listeners, and it's probs one of my least faves

ginganinja2507

[Evangeline Lilly](https://twitter.com/FilmUpdates/status/1486765200837591041) (Antman & The Wasp, The Hobbit, LOST) was apparently at the anti-vaxx rally in DC recently

TigerFern

Now is my chance to say I've never gotten her, she's always been a knock off Liv Tyler to me.

mattysmwift

Not surprising. She was saying antivaxx or covid bullshit before.

mynameistoo_common

but there were vaccine mandates before COVID and she didn't say a word then. vaccines are mandated for the military, schools (in Canada at least), and organ transplantations. BECAUSE of mandated vaccines, we were able to all but eliminate diseases like polio, measles, and tetanus. Because of these mandates, her own children are exponentially safer now than they were even 50 years ago. Iron lungs are not that far into the past. Vaccines have existed for over 200 years now. We ALL benefit from them today.

[deleted]

nothing angers me more than these idiots trying to co-opt this bullshit to be a "pro-choice" movement. apparently this idiot in particular was fighting against restrictions and quarantining even while living with her cancer-stricken father but that's just something i saw scrolling through twitter so take it with a grain of salt.

swampgay

SERIOUSLY as someone who's had an abortion, the fact that the majority of contexts I see "pro choice" used in these days is out of the mouths of conservatives who would've forced me to carry a pregnancy I didn't want to term is infuriating. those were our words first, you're not pro-choice, you're antivax and antimask

[deleted]

[удалено]

swampgay

I think it's even more frustrating to me because respectability politics still controls so much of the abortion rights movement, like there's a very pervasive idea of what the "right" reasons to have an abortion are and how you "should" feel about having had one, and even the pro choice movement props up this narrative that choosing to have an abortion is this big dramatic thing and something everyone struggles with and it's treated kind of like a lesser of two evils situation ("no one *wants* to have an abortion!" being a common talking point) when that is not the case at all, and such a high percentage of women* have had abortions, they are very common medical procedures, and I would wager to say most of us feel very normal about our abortions. but then because there's still so much stigma very few people feel comfortable openly saying they've had an abortion. I know I often don't, it's something only my closer friends know about me, and I don't mention it super often online, especially on accounts with my face attached. not because I'm ashamed, but because of the reaction other people have. so, when I and so many other people have so few spaces available where we feel safe to say "I'm someone who's had an abortion", it's maddening that the people who think we're literal murderers are co-opting the terminology belonging to the movement where we feel somewhat safer voicing our experiences. I hope that made sense, my adderall has worn off for the day so I can get a bit ramble-y *I know people who aren't women can get pregnant and have abortions, I'm one of them, but I'm just quoting the statistics as they're worded

softswinter

I was a really big fan of a lot of the things she's been in and she's sadly been like this since the beginning of the pandemic. She thinks the pandemic is a hoax. I initially thought she was going to get dropped from Antman 3 because there were vaccine mandates on set, but she was there so at some point, she got the vaccine. Interestingly, this is the second (publicly) antivax actor that Marvel has to deal with lol.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

Letitia also returned to filming so idk if she’s been to any rallies like Evangeline but sure seems like the antivaxxer will get their shots for the Mouse

softswinter

Honestly with how much Disney probably pays and the fact that it's this inescapable presence in their industry, it would be stupid to give up your role just to make some antivax stance. Like take a leaf out of Gina Carano's book maybe because last I heard since Disney dropped her, her career has been rocky.

[Akademiks claims that Kanye is going around telling people that Pete Davidson has HIV](https://twitter.com/kurrco/status/1486681866384072709?s=21)

oop_oop

Akademiks is annoying and not really trustworthy. He just kisses Drake's ass and hates on everybody else.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

I hope he’s talking out of his ass but Kanye’s really one of those people were people definitely make up a lot of wild stuff about him but he’s also an outrageous person that can be incredibly mean so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Helpful_Motor3732

“Akademiks claims” is like the clearest sign that something isn’t true dfkm

nightmaredressdream

I keep wanting to comment but I don’t even know what to say wtf

queenmeme2

No offense but who tf is Akademiks and why are we believing stuff like this with no actual proof?

futurafreeeeee

he’s an (annoying and messy) industry insider / hip hop journalist / podcaster / blogger type person who twitch streams. i don’t really know who to compare him to

visionaryredditor

Akademiks is a blogger who is close to many rappers (unfortunately)

thebardjaskier

Bro, what the fuck

prettybunbun

In more Kanye (Ye) drama… Kanye is claiming that he got a 2nd laptop off Ray J with a 2nd sex tape on it, has tried to make himself look like the hero that he rescued it and gave it to Kim and she was sobbing and thanking him. Kim has come out and said it’s not true, there was a laptop but it only had the OG tape on it and some unreleased non-sexual footage (vacation stuff), and has said there is no 2nd sex tape. Ray J has then come out today with the tweet “This has to stop, I also have kids” Honestly Kanye is being awful. It’s like Kim got out from under his control in their marriage so now he feels he has to control the narrative to get it back. I know he is unwell, he needs help but what can you do when he refuses to get it? Still feel for Kim in all of this, she must feel exhausted.

irrelevant2002

I will never understand people who continue to support Kanye. But then again, I expected no less from the predominantly male fanbase of a rap artist

whizzer0

why is it significant that he's a rap artist… this happens in many genres, the whole industry is corrupt

irrelevant2002

i've noticed that rap fans tend to be a lot more forgiving of abusers, especially those who abuse women. all genres have fans like that, but with rap it's very overwhelming.

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

Rap fans are as forgiving of abusers as rock fans, but you only see the former getting singled out and being constantly generalized... 🙄 The only reason you find it more 'overwhelming' in rap is because it's the more relevant genre these days, regularly in the mainstream conversation, whereas discussion on rock is mostly focused on older acts. But both cultures are historically heavy on toxic masculinity which allows predatory and disgusting behaviour to thrive and be ignored.

irrelevant2002

yes, that's exactly why i mentioned rap, because it's more popular nowadays. if we were living in the 70s, i would have mentioned rock. if there is a problem in a particular genre, it's ok to call it out. we don't have to be walking on eggshells all the time.

fezzesarecool

This comment is really fucking gross! Did we not just cover this with Britney? Conservator shops are cruel. No one should be held under a conservatorship.

whatever213what

Okay for real though I’m so confused. You’re arguing that Kanye should just be allowed to continue to harass his family, wreak his life, and spiral out until he possibly accidentally ends up dead… Rather than 5150ing him and getting him back on track with therapeutic intervention For real how can you argue that letting someone destroy themselves is better

whatever213what

Baby *Britney’s* conservative ship was gross. They’re still a good tool for people like Kanye who have had a complete break with reality and need to be forced into medical treatment Grow up.

TheColdSasquatch

I'm so fucking sick of Kanye

pretty-in-pink

Apathetic to the Kardashians myself and IANAL but at what point does she have grounds to issue a cease and desist/restraining order/gets full custody of the kids because I could legitimately see Kanye resorting to violence against Pete/her/her family. young children don’t deserve to be exposed to that especially on such a public scale

GraphicgL-

I truly believe Kanye is trying his hardest to make himself a victim through all of this. His whole story that he’s trying to build is that Kim is trying to keep him away from his kids. He tried to pull it with that birthday stunt which clearly did not work out. And he’s going as far into the interview to threaten kim with legal matters if they keep him from his kids. None of this is happening. Kanye does not understand what coparenting is, coparenting means that you share parenting responsibilities it does not mean you get to dictate how your wife parents and you do not get to dictate when you get to show up as a father. What makes it all even worse is that Kanye is dating someone else. How dare he think he has this controlling grip on every single woman he thinks wrongs him. The pattern has been there for years and if Julia is smart I would get out of that ASAP. So I feel like that whole relationship is PR.

TigerFern

The thing with Julia isn't PR, it's just two narcissists having a grand ol' time.

GraphicgL-

And everyone clapped in the restaurant right?

TigerFern

I'm sure that's what Kanye and Julia remember happening in their minds.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

Wait what’s the source for this

GraphicgL-

I posted about this yesterday but it’s in an interview with Jason Lee. It’s an interview that if you’re Kanye fan you’ll think how powerful and amazing is this man. But if you’re on the outside you will see a narcissist making up his own narrative and story about how he controls his own narrative (It’s the actual title of the interview) . He even goes as far to threaten Kim.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

Thank you for the source! I appreciate it. I don’t really have much to say about the content other than I wish Kim and the kids the best with dealing with it. 😐 not good to say the least

GraphicgL-

Same , north is old enough to understand what’s going on and I hope she’s getting the needed support.

Rachel Zegler on Ansel Elgort: ["We made a movie two and a half years ago, and a lot has gone on in the world since then. A lot has changed very publicly, and privately as well. There's been a lot of awakening" she told the outlet. "You just hope that the people involved are okay, that they are asked in a respectful manner and that they are given the opportunity to answer for themselves."](https://twitter.com/popcrave/status/1486767833795207169?s=21) for good measure, Ariana DeBose and Rita’s responses along with the [full excerpt from the interview](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/rita-moreno-rachel-zegler-ariana-debose-interview-west-side-story-1235080420/): “Such considerations exceeded the realm of art when, in June 2020, a woman accused Ansel Elgort, who stars as Tony, of sexually assaulting her in 2014 when she was 17 and he was 20. The allegations surfaced on social media nine months after shooting wrapped. Elgort, who has responded that his relationship with the woman was “brief, legal and entirely consensual,” has participated in group interviews to promote the film but otherwise has not done any press. And so it’s again the women who are left to address the elephant in the room. (Spielberg declined to comment on the matter.) They do not shy from the Elgort question (nor from invoking his name in recalling on-set tales, with Moreno praising his singing ability), even as they remain circumspect in their answers. “Nobody really knows what’s going on in anyone’s head. Only the people who were involved in that situation know what actually went down,” DeBose says. Adds Moreno, “I think it would have been absolutely horrendous and wrong for anyone to take sides in that matter. It’s not for me to make those judgments.” As Elgort’s romantic partner in the film, Zegler is the co-worker most often asked to weigh in. “We made a movie two and a half years ago, and a lot has gone on in the world since then,” she says. “A lot has changed very publicly, and privately as well. There’s been a lot of awakening. You just hope that the people involved are OK, that they are asked in a respectful manner and that they are given the opportunity to answer for themselves.”l

lamzydivey

Wow, I’m finding all this bad stuff out about all these actors whose work I’ve really enjoyed. First Miles Teller and now Ansel Elgort. Who’s next, Shailene Woodley?

FaceofHoe

The Fault of these Stars

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Oh honey, I have some bad news for you about Shailene...

GraphicgL-

If you are not being sarcastic I hate informing you but Woodley is a complete anti-vax imbecile along with her fiancé Mr. Aaron Rodgers.

costalhp

I havent found anything that says she is anti vax, only that her husband/bf is

PungentPomegranates

Considering she's talked about eating clay to cleanse the toxins and metals from her body, and like doctors had to come out and tell teens not to do that during the Divergent era, doesn't seem like a stretch to think she's anti-vax and on the same natural homeopathic "immunized" options as her boyfriend.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

I thought they were already married

GraphicgL-

Oh they could be! I’m late to that news

visionaryredditor

> Who’s next, Shailene Woodley? please tell me you're being sarcastic

thebardjaskier

Please say sike.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

I don’t have any medals but I’ve really liked at least two of your comments today

thebardjaskier

Haha thank you, I appreciate you saying so much more than medals

futurafreeeeee

yes lmao not on the level of them but [this isn’t a good look considering her man is an anti vaxx republican ](https://twitter.com/pagesix/status/1486107685170917377?s=21)

lamzydivey

Ah that’s ok! I’m a Selena Gomez fan so I’ve had a lot of practice at mental gymnastics and am currently performing it. Also while listening to Solar Power, an album that made my Spotify Top 5 last year.

nicolioli_x

It's certainly not wrong to take sides, I disagree with her statement there, but it's also crappy that that Ansel Elgort's co-stars are being forced to address this situation just because he's purposefully staying off the grid. They worked with him BEFORE any of this came to light and there was nothing they could really do once the film was already made. It's a crappy situation, and Zegler is still a new actor who is trying to stay diplomatic to get her career going. I wish she would have said "no comment" like Spielberg did.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

Moreno’s comments are so gross even if the other two seem very much like they’re saying what their publicist said was the way to go

acuddleexperiment

I wonder if we'll see another apology from Rita. She received backlash from her dismissive comments regarding the lack of Afro-Latino actors in In the Heights.

kaguraa

if someone is accused of something horrible, why say it's wrong to take sides? obviously there is only one side that is wrong😭

succulentils

I feel like the unspoken thought behind "don't pick a side" is "we don't really know what happened"

Pavlovs_Stepson

She shouldn't have phrased it that way, but on the other hand it's a tough position to be in and she didn't bring it upon herself, so I can't blame her for not having the best response. The film was shot long before those allegations came out and these actresses aren't the ones being accused; I don't really see the point in cornering them and asking them "but what about this bad thing that your co-star did that you had nothing to do with and didn't know about when you signed on to work with him", because where do you go from there? I don't know if there really is meaningful discourse to be mined there. They're not the ones who should be put on the spot.

irrelevant2002

If i were in that position I would straight up say "Hey, these accusations were not made public when the movie was filmed and I don't know anything about that"

kaguraa

i agree but couldn't they just declined to comment or say no comment? like you said, it's a tough position to be in but i don't think they had to respond to the question either

deadpoetshonour99

and then have everyone go after them for not speaking up. it's impossible to win.

Pavlovs_Stepson

I think they knew they'd have to say *something* at some point, they couldn't avoid the issue in every single interview for the entire season. It's probably a better look to give a milquetoast PR response than to dodge the question completely; we'd be going way harder on them if they just outright refused to acknowledge the elephant in the room. It'd look too cynical. People were talking about the Ansel Elgort debacle from the moment that West Side Story got a release date; there's no way they'd be able to keep silent for an entire awards campaign.

brownu95

Omg fuck Hollywood

racloves

According to TMZ, [a “fan” crashed their car into Taylor Swift’s NYC apartment](https://twitter.com/theswiftsociety/status/1486763747683319809?s=21). He was arrested and is assumed to have been intoxicated. It’s not said whether Taylor was home or not, but I hope she is alright, even if she wasn’t there that’s sure you leave you a bit shaken up.

tswiftdeepcuts

He ripped the intercom out of the wall too. This happens to her so often it must be so terrifying. This is why she posts videos in front of white walls. I remember when she posted sitting on a couch a few months ago and fans figured out what hotel she was in from like the couch fabric. I cannot imagine my life being like this. She carries military grade bullet wound dressing with her at all times and she is constantly trying to hide where she is. So many people think they’re in a relationship with her, and usually these people that stalk her and try to break into her homes don’t even really go to jail. Women in general just aren’t protected well from this shit by the law.

whatever213what

I lived in the same building as her back during the RED era. Even back then fans are crazy. I didn’t like going to the lobby of that building because if she was in town there would be throngs of people around the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of her. They would also leave so many fucking gifts with the concierge. Some of them even brought homemade food which is just crazy af because there’s no way in hell Taylor Swift is gonna eat your homemade food

tswiftdeepcuts

Being famous sounds like actual hell. Did you ever meet her?

whatever213what

Oh multiple times. Mostly the elevator, and she always chatted with me. The one time I worked up the courage to ask for a photo her bodyguard said “no” and she kept chatting like normal. She even came over and met my cat once! I have Sphynx cats and she was all “oh my gosh! Can I meet him! He looks so weird! Oh my gosh”. So my one claim to fame is that Taylor Swift stood in my hallway holding my spoiled cat. The year I moved out was the first and only time I was invited to her place. I ran into her in the hallway (I had a friend in the building who lived on her floor) and she was like “HI! how are you, how’s the cat” yada yada small talk, and just when the interaction was ending “oh I’m throwing a party at my place tonight if you want to come” so I did. Photos were *not* allowed. This was all during RED when she was still pretending she didn’t curse or drink or have fun lol

ivyleagueposeur

> relationship with her, and usually these people that stalk her and try to break into her homes don’t even really go to jail. Women in general just aren’t protected well from this shit by the law. not really the point of the story but it's so on brand for Taylor Swift that she remembered your cat, and I'm so happy about this

whatever213what

Yeah it really was startlingly on brand. And so that’s like how I know even though her public persona is so carefully constructed, it’s still constructed around reality. There’s a lot of stars who just have these public persona that absolutely do not match up with their real life personality. But Taylor always seemed kind of warm and nice. Granted I was living in her building, which meant I could afford her building. So she might’ve seen us as, like not exactly peers but like it’s definitely an ‘in’ to be living in the same building and occupying a similar class I never really saw her interact with staff but that’s probably the real test of personality rather than how she was with a neighbor

Aggravating-Corner-2

I've seen celebrities (truthfully) say they still take the subway/Tube and go out in public by themselves and I'm like...how??? I've heard so many horror stories about stuff that's happened to even less well known/more low key celebrities, if I were even slightly famous I think I would be constantly terrified of what could happen. I get that that's no way to live, and they want to just live their lives, but still.

mynameistoo_common

it depends on the kind of celebrity they are and which city they live in. celebrities like Taylor are constantly harassed and threatened by psychos who have a parasocial relationship with her or by people who utterly despise her. i remember during the haylor era the sheer hatred 1D stans and larries had for her. she is in constant danger if she goes anywhere without security. even if it's just from overexcited fans who mob her. however, other celebrities without rabid stans and haters will be fine. for example, the toronto raptors players walk around toronto all the time and even go to grocery stores and they're perfectly fine. might also be because they're straight up massive and jacked.

07bot4life

Jay-z can take the metro. Jay-z.

mynameistoo_common

i remember when larries figured out where louis was staying in LA based on the SKYLINE and SUN POSITION in his instagram photo.

wholesome-rebellion

Lol that is both hilarious and terrifying. More so terrifying

softswinter

Countless celebrities' locations gets exposed publicly just from fans studying their backgrounds in photos or videos and it's the most terrifying thing. The blatant lack of boundaries and the entitlement over public figures is concerning, especially when we consider the frequency of this happening. In fact, the most recent case I can think of is literally just yesterday when Chris Evans' stans were able to locate his whereabouts, call his hotel to check how long he's staying in his room, and track his flight all from a video he recorded. Like jesus the man is forty and doesn't really play the parasocial game so what more if you're from the music industry which tends to highlight connecting with fans more. Forgive me if untrue and baseless, but I also heard Taylor has someone go through her unidentified phone calls because there's a lot of creepy men who call her and say insane things that would threaten one's mental health. It's even scarier to think that she's one of the most high profile celebrities and her security still doesn't level to what it should be for someone of her caliber.

tswiftdeepcuts

I’m pretty sure that she has like a personal phone that doesn’t have internet on it and only a few people have the number and then a phone that does have internet on it but no one has the number or something like that. I know she has people read through all her email and fanmail because guys send her disturbing messages that make it hard for her to sleep at night

badbitchfunkywitch

imagine going on a blind date and you’re like “oh so what do you do?” and they’re like “i read through Taylor Swift’s stalker emails” lmao

tswiftdeepcuts

Haha that would definitely be an ice breaker type story

dumbthrowaway8679305

Why the hell did the hotel give some random people info about a high profile guest? That’s just terrible security.

softswinter

Lol good question! From what I gathered, they asked the hotel when the specific suite he stayed at would be available so they surmised information based from that.

dumbthrowaway8679305

And how did they figure out what room he was staying in?!?!

softswinter

...that I don't know 😭 lmao

nicolioli_x

I never understood this, or why fans would go wait at an airport or hotel. It's one thing to see a celeb in public and politely try to talk to them, but stalking a celeb's travel plans to say hi in a huge crowd of people while they're busy and didn't get paid to say hi to fans? Absolutely not. Even worse when it's a celeb's home, and they're just trying to relax. People crap on Bieber for saying no to a fan who asked for a pic outside his home, but he also explained that this is his HOME, and he was tired and just wanted to relax, so can the fan not understand? That's what I really don't get. If anyone did this to a non-celebrity, it would be incredibly rude and scary.

softswinter

Oh for sure, and when these people willingly overstep the boundaries between public figure and fan and get ignored or called out, it's the celebrity that gets labeled as having an attitude or being a diva. There's no way for them to win. This is why whenever there's a blind item about some celebrity being rude and the story is that they bumped into the person in a public space and they frowned at or just straight up ignored the fan, I don't take it with much weight. No part of their private life is entitled to us.

whatever213what

Lol I used to live in Taylor Swift’s building and I ran into her multiple times in the elevator and hallway. The only time I ever worked up the courage to ask for a photo, Her security guard immediately said no and Taylor kept chatting like everything was normal. I felt so embarrassed after that because well *duh* she doesn’t want to take a photo while she’s in The elevator of her fucking building.

badbitchfunkywitch

was she nice?

whatever213what

Yeah lol. I mean she was chatting with me! It was just strange to have her bodyguard answer “no” and her keep chatting lol. She even came to my apartment once because I own Sphynx cats and she was like “Can I meet your cat?!” That’s my claim to fame. Taylor Swift stood in my hallway holding my naked cat and spoiling him. That’s why like *yes* her public persona is carefully crafted but also she was also always nice. Granted that may have been because we were in the same building meaning we could both afford the same building so she may have seen me as a sort of peer? Like idk how she is with staff… I know she’s generally nice but it’s not like some other stars where she goes out of her way to chat with them. That’s probably a better test of personality Anyways that’s my most significant interaction with a popheads favorite. I’ve also met Adele and Katy and lady Gaga but only once each and the interactions were brief compared to Taylor (which duh I mean I lived in her building of course I ran into her)

nicolioli_x

This is wonderful to hear, thanks for the story! I always love hearing when celebs I love are nice to people. Also, I've noticed that celeb bodyguards are usually SUPER pushy and rude, even if the celeb is nice. I guess they have to be because it's their job to protect their client and keep people away, so I don't fault them, but it's funny that Taylor just ignored her bodyguard. I had a similar interaction with an actor. His bodyguard told me to go away but he kept talking to me until another fan interrupted lol.

whatever213what

The bodyguards are able to do what the celebrities can’t. Like she didn’t want to take a photo (and duh she didn’t she’s in the elevator of her building like no lol) but she didn’t want to be like “no screw off dude” so the bodyguard does it for her. And she keeps chatting really nicely So that person you met probably instructed his bodyguard to run fans off after a little while. But he can seem innocent because he’s not the one doing it

badbitchfunkywitch

that’s a nice story though. thank you for sharing!

whatever213what

Lol I also got to go to a party at her place the year I moved out. I still get sad sometimes because it took like three years of interaction but she FINALLY invited me over but I was moving to Dallas that year. I always wonder if maybe just maybe we would have become real friends lol I mean probably not. Let’s be honest it was always a pipedream. But a girl can dream lol

racloves

I remember hearing something about fans being able to track her private jet? I can’t imagine how scary it must be like to live with that.

irrelevant2002

bro how is that even possible? that's gotta be illegal.....i am speechless

tswiftdeepcuts

People still track her all the time it’s really creepy

badbitchfunkywitch

There are people on Tumblr that still track her private jets. People link them on the TS sub sometimes

mynameistoo_common

Yeah it was during Hiddleswift. Two accounts gained massive fan followings because they gave hour by hour updates on where Taylor's private planes were. People at that level of celebrity live with such a heightened threat to security. I think taylor mentioned that her security team has rooms full of filing cabinets filled with death threats.

igkeit

I don't understand how people manage to find a hotel from just the fabric of a couch. The same happened a few months back with Lana. Fans figured out out which hotel she was in from the curtains in the room. It's crazy

JohnPaul_River

This is so funny because people really found them through pieces of fabric and yet when Lorde did a video call interview in New York, where you could see a very specific set of awards in the background, not a single one of her stans could figure out whose house she was at 😭 and the worst part is we really did try, more for the gossip of "omg who is she friends with" since people ran into her around NY every other day anyway. We're just not deranged enough ig.

gsmumbo

I imagine it's pretty easy. All it takes is one person saying "hey, I remember seeing a couch like that at a hotel I stayed at a few weeks ago" and you have a location. From there she's a very prominent public figure. It can't be too hard to find out if she's been spotted there. When you say things like "the fabric of a couch" it makes it seem like some super sleuthy amateur investigation. In reality I don't think it goes much further than "I recognize that landmark".

simplebagel5

i found it incredibly gross when some demi fans realized they were back in rehab before it had been announced based on the background of one of their IG videos. it just feels so invasive to publicly share something like that about someone you claim to be a fan of.

tswiftdeepcuts

I can’t imagine doing all that and not once stopping to ask yourself if what you’re doing is okay and mentally healthy or if it would make you feel unsafe if someone did it to you? Like shouldn’t there be a voice in your head that’s like “this is going way too far” ???

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

I really hope this "fan" isn't just another stalker. 😐

racloves

I mean they’re definitely not really a fan, hence why I put it in quotes. But yeah this is stalker behaviour and not ok

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Taylor has way too many stalkers than she would like to admit. 😞

shuipz94

Not something anyone would care to admit. No reason to acknowledge it, lest it "inspires" copycats.

Straight-Meaning

Jeez, I feel like she’s had some horrifying incidents with stalkers. There was that one time someone broke into that apartment and took a shower and feel asleep while waiting for her and then the one outside her LA house where he had a knife, rope and ammunition. Shit like this is so scary.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

Taylor is always one of the celebrities I think is not getting their moneys worth for whatever security detail she has

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Billie's lyric on NDA where she had to save up for security hits really differently now. 😟

[deleted]

Yeah and I remember the line in Getting Older about how the people are knocking on her door are deranged and I remember that story of that one guy coming to her door all the time. It’s stories like this and Taylor’s that makes me grateful I’m not a celebrity

Straight-Meaning

Truly. It’s so crazy how many breaches and close calls she’s had. Her security team should do so much better, she’s definitely not getting her moneys worth.

shuipz94

? Her security cannot stop every incident before it happens. It's not like they can prevent a crazy guy from getting a car and crashing into her house on a public road. For the majority of cases, the perpetrator was stopped way before getting anywhere close to her. Her security will no doubt be strongest where she is, and there's no reason to have a similar layer of security at places where she isn't.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

That’s creepy and scary

Ghost-Quartet

[Meghan Trainor got Omicron](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSjo4yD1PRk) :\

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

Wishing for a quick recovery. Assuming she's vaccinated, there shouldn't be much to worry about. 🙂

Ghost-Quartet

She's triple vaxxed and past the worst of her symptoms so hopefully she's fine. Fortunately her baby didn't catch it too

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

That's great to hear!

brownu95

So axel Webber backlash has been all over my Tik tok. I don’t care for him but it’s over my fyp. So apparently his sister works in a social media company and is one of the reasons why he got so successful. What do you guys think does it really matter?

thebardjaskier

i feel like shit is getting too weird with the organic bullshit. yeah we should be worried about media companies manipulating us but i don't understand what wrong with an artist getting help to promote themselves like seriously??? are we so obsessed with seeming cool and casual that we think it's cringe when people are ambitious?

Exciting_Patient4872

Isn't he the one who was pretending like he was a poor young ambitious man living in a closet?

Curlingby

I wouldn’t say pretending… He lives in nyc which is notoriously expensive so it’s not shocking he has a tiny apartment. People discovered his family is well off (for Georgia) and assumed that meant he was super which and acting poor to get attention. When in actuality he mentioned that he saved up a set amount of money for his initial time in new york and didn’t get a job previously so he could focusing on preparing for his juilliard. To me he just seems like someone who was trying to budget the money he had to live in such an expensive city for as long as possible. The tiny apartment thing only became his thing because there was literally a trend of people in new york showing off how shitty their apartments were because the city is so expensive.

thebardjaskier

I honestly don't know because idk who this kid even is and it doesn't change my answer unless he lied then that's manipulative but both could be true at the same time? Just because his sister works at a social media company and could have used her skills to help him necessarily means he couldn't also be poor? But to me when someone says basically "is it wrong this guy's sister used her skills to help him?" I don't think so.

Exciting_Patient4872

Yeah I don't think there is any issue getting help but from the videos I've seen he just seems like a class tourist poser.

igkeit

I still don't understand why people even care. Like even if it is all manufactured I don't care. I mean there's only so much behind the scene support can do for you, for you to really blow up and stay, you need to have a personality and people have to actually like you and vibe with you. Which seems to be the case here, so even if he's an industry plant who cares

PungentPomegranates

On the one hand I do get your point that if people enjoy his videos and his personality I guess who cares whether or not he's being completely authentic, he's manufacturing a kind of product that people clearly are connecting with. However, I do sort of also understand the critique that he is kind of romanticizing living in poverty and sort of passing that off as an authentic experience. He is choosing to live in the tiniest apartment, choosing to buy the cheapest food he can from street vendors, when it seems like he doesn't have to do that. It does kind of trivialize people, often people of color, who are forced to live in that kind of situation because they have no way out of that kind of generational poverty, no safety net to fall back on, and sort of struggling to get buy everyday, but then he's kind of making Tiktoks about how fun and quirky that all is. You know?

Bitter-Lock-4057

If he wants to live like that then who tf cares lol

igkeit

Yeah you do make a good point

irrelevant2002

a lot of the backlash is because his fans have been relentlessly harassing julliard's admissions team, even going as far to comment vile shit on a memorial post of a black woman. it's the whole "audacity of a white man" where he thinks he can move to NYC and get into the most competitve performing arts school even though he has ABSOLUTELY NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE. Not even professional headshots.

PungentPomegranates

The whole Juilliard thing was so bizarre to me. Like the absolute white male audacity to think you could get in to Juilliard basically having never acted before is insane. It be like applying to get into Harvard and posting a sympathy video that you didn't get in, even though you never took the SAT because you don't like tests and had a C average in high school.

mynameistoo_common

wait that's crazy lol so this guy had NO prior acting experience and was trying to get into juilliard??? that doesn't make sense. did he at least do school theatre or have an acting coach?

irrelevant2002

he took one (1) introductory acting class 💀

mynameistoo_common

i had one friend who auditioned for juilliard in high school. she was an incredible violin player - as in, she made the top orchestra as a freshman which almost NEVER happens. she was also in the city youth orchestra and did private concerts. AND she somehow managed to get good grades. she didn't get in. we were all in disbelief. juilliard has an insanely high threshold for talent. (thankfully for my friend, her good grades and music experience got her a full scholarship to a state university and she double majored in music and computer science)

mynameistoo_common

backstory pls i don't use tiktok.

bubblevalu

axel is a guy in his 20s and recently moved to new York, to a really small apartment. like the smallest apartment ever. he did a tour of the apartment and that video blew up, he gained millions of followers on tik tok and subscribers on YouTube. He also applied for Julliard and did an audition. he got rejected and his fans got a little crazy, spamming julliards ig. Axel got some backlash for that and people are now calling him an industry plant and other things. aaaand that's all I know

acuddleexperiment

The Julliard audition scandal was a wild trip. His fans really thought that they can change the decision of one of the most prestigious acting schools in the world by spamming them with bad reviews. You know, the school that has been producing talent for decades before social media was even a thing. Although, I do have to admire his audacity to use an accent during auditions if the rumors are true. The only person who was said to pass Julliard auditions doing an accent was Robin Williams.

mynameistoo_common

what's wrong with using an accent? (genuinely asking lol i don't know anything about juilliard's audition process)

ivyleagueposeur

one of the arguments that i've heard is that good accent work can seem like an attempt to mask poor acting

BavelTravelUnravel

I looked up Julliard's audition stuff, and it says you can use an accent. If I had to guess, the actual reason is that one of the pieces they perform has to be Shakespeare, but they don't want people to hyperfocus on doing a British accent because that's not the point. In Axel's TikTok, he admits that he *cannot* do a British accent, and then after the audition laughs about "not being able to help himself". So it's more likely he semi-winged his audition and it didn't turn out well.

brownu95

You are not supposed to use an accent because it ruins you chances of getting in

mynameistoo_common

but why lol
