scriggle-jigg

me reading this in sweatpants and a hoodie as i work remote. thank god its not monday or id be sitting in traffic

James19991

I can't believe they are people who are perfectly capable of working from home who missed this commuting shit when they were working from home last year...

scriggle-jigg

my boss the first day he was back in office said "...and you know what, i missed sitting in traffic. it felt normal again". I was like you can sit in all the traffic you want im good

James19991

What a boring life they must lead if they like wasting their time in traffic.

scriggle-jigg

i agree - but i think it was more for the "return to normalcy" aspect of it. but he is off a different generation as me (and I am assuming you)

James19991

Oh that explains a lot. It's been time for the boomers to call it a day and retire for years now.

jagoffmassacre

Maybe he hates his family and needs some “me” time. 🤔

scriggle-jigg

he did mention "me" time idk about the family part ahha

Imsoold28

If he listens to Skynyrd on volume level 4 in traffic, it’s time to retire

greatsirius

I usually only have a 15 min commute. Today not so much

SendAstronomy

Nothing in Pittsburgh is consistently or reliably 15 minutes away from anything else in Pittsburgh.

Embarrassed_Couple_6

Can confirm, the target nearest to me is either a 5 minute drive up McKnight, or is a 1.5 hour walk, depending on what the car says.

BonnieIndigo

Yeah, this.

Imsoold28

Not one damn thing

greatsirius

Yeah you're right 😂

kimbecile

I hope no one was hurt.

411inthe412

Another one on 79 south by moon run. 79 south closed, traffic being diverted onto 60. Good times

411inthe412

Update: closed at 51 now. South bound backing up to Mt Nebo

greatsirius

Omg today is beyond fucked

craggy_cynic

Whereabouts? Which exit?

lidytidy

Between 78b and 77

NicklovesHer

What breed of Picksberger knows any of the exit numbers? We all navigate by landmarks, instinct, and google maps- right?

TotalJagoff

By the Holiday Inn that's now a storage place, across from that one building that used to be a Westinghouse, but not the big one that used to be a Westinghouse, that one's up top of the hill.

StoneColdSaidWhat2

I now exactly where that is now thank you.

DIY_Creative

Me too! This is far better. Unrelated, sort of. When I grew up we went to my Baba's house (that's Slovakian for Grandmother) every single Sunday for Sunday dinner. Took the same streets. She only lived a few miles so it was not many turns. To this day I have NO IDEA the names of those streets. It's more, go straight through the stop sign, make the next left across from that house that converted their garage to a game room, then the next right by the house that has the nice forsythia bushes... Tried to tell my partner how to get from my parents to grandmother's a few years ago and she was dumbfounded I had no idea the street names, even though I literally took that route hundreds and hundreds of times!

booksgamesandstuff

We *had to* go by landmarks! I don’t think there were street signs on 50% or less of the roads.

jm2054

Honestly I thought 78b was Oakland but now I know where it is because your post dude above you was right apparently

Imsoold28

Hahahaha shut up wow 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

lydriseabove

Side note, it’s hilarious to me that locals typically don’t notice the difference between Guardian storage and other storage facilities when they see themselves as “the Mercedes of storage facilities” and are also the only chain that is locally owned in Pittsburgh.

NicklovesHer

This, a million times this

toonman27

I know I don’t know the numbers. The news clarified that’s between the Wilkinsburg(78b) and Edgewood/Swissvale(77) exits.

OllieFromCairo

I recently tried to tell my mom how to get here by taking 279 to 28 to the Highland Park bridge, and I got all the exit numbers wrong.

greatsirius

That's hilarious. IDK WHERE THE FUCK I AM lol

OllieFromCairo

She wound up downtown, found sixth ave, knows I live off of fifth ave, and drove alllllll the way out to Point Breeze on surface streets. I still haven't heard the end of it.

NicklovesHer

And you cant get there from here- gotta get to the Parkway first

Danthezooman

Grew up in Edgewood. I always just tell people It's the Kennywood exit

lidytidy

I was on the parkway half asleep in passenger seat at the time and that’s what the emergency sign said (to tell everyone to take an alt route). Didn’t know the names lol

NicklovesHer

Thats fair, I too occasionally look up at the road signs. Mostly to say things like, "Ardmore? I thought I was on Penn, or 8, or 30, or Gramma's exit, or you know- out there by Vincents Pizza..."

greatsirius

Thank you for clarifying I was trying to get it out ASAP

lidytidy

It’s between 78b and 77 so if you get on after you’ll be able to move but yeah what OP said

greatsirius

It was the wildest wreck I've ever seen. Trees down, median smashed to bits, debris everywhere

Rt376

Trailer carrying steel coils. Basically my nightmare driving on the highway.

Cryptic_Skies

> my nightmare is logging trucks. *that opening scene of final destination 2 has a real ability of staying with you.*

vilkacis

Who I'm sure was definitely obeying the "TRUCKS 35 MPH" going down that massive hill. The giant trucks speeding around the city are a goddamn plague.

KermieJagger

If they want to pay something like 20 bucks for the entire trip (just guessing what the toll would be for semis when/if it's ever completed).

Cannabaceaer

Time is money when you're driving professionally (and for a lot of other people too).

KermieJagger

Yes but how much time would you save with the proposed Beltway route between Wilkins Twp and the airport area? It dips pretty far south. If you are going to 79 south then sure, it much make sense. But a lot of those trucks going from the Turnpike to 79 south would use 70 anyways.

CARLEtheCamry

But I don't drive a tractor trailer so it's useless to ME

greatsirius

Loool. On 376 no one is going under 65

ididacannonball

Unless they're in the tunnels, in which they all slow down for no reason at all.

apitbullnamedzeus

Which infuriates me, especially inbound at Squirrel Hill. There are no merge points after the Edgewood onramp, so what is the mystery after that point? I’ve also noticed a new-ish chokepoint is westbound at Carnegie. Everyone seems to slow down around the bend for some reason and traffic backs up to Ft. Pitt during the evening rush.

mjw217

There is a reason. The Tunnel Monster! That’s why, when you get to the other end of the tunnel, traffic thins out. /s

oak-hearted

Ugh, my nightmare is tankers of flammable/toxic liquid. This summer a fuel tanker crashed into the median, [burst into flames](https://cdllife.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Screen-Shot-2021-07-13-at-9.13.30-AM-1068x611.png), and shut down I-75 between [Detroit and its major northern suburbs for weeks](https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/oakland/2021/07/13/i-75-closed-fuel-tanker-explosion-crash/7954530002/). Incredibly nobody was seriously hurt. [If you watch the video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpooPpULjCg) of the incident it appears the driver just failed to follow the road and crashed right into the median. Though, edit to add, I know nothing about how trucks work so I'd never recognize a steering failure.

lidytidy

Woah. Cops made us get off at the Wilkinsburg exit and couldn’t get back on until right before the tunnel. I was heading to the airport so didn’t have time to look it up thanks for sharing

asse4t3r

Any pictures ?

AMBITI0USbutRUBBISH

I was 2 hours late to work today

greatsirius

I hope they understood dude. It was beyond fucked

AMBITI0USbutRUBBISH

Yeah my boss was chill

Embarrassed_Band_512

Buddy i've been trying to avoid a plague for two years.

VulpineSpecter4

Glad I'm not working today.

Radiant_Analyst_9281

‘We can’t trust autonomous trucking’ —yeah this doesn’t really help that debate. Truckers, get ya boi

fischerkidd

it was a local driver too. i dont know what the hell he was thinking

Radiant_Analyst_9281

Probably being a jagoff jerkin off again while driving

Alvarez09

Self driving in general. All you have to do is go out in any road for five minutes and you run into at least 10 terrible drivers.

ecm225

> at least 10 Conservative estimate

JamesLLL

I know we have a lot of professionals in the autonomous vehicle industry here, but if someone tells me they trust an autonomous vehicle, I don't trust them

alexp8771

Trust or no trust, the one thing you can 100% guarantee is that an AV will not be going above the posted or recommended speed limit. So no 75mph on bigelow or trucks going ludicrous speed on 79 at the bends around coraopolis.

JamesLLL

100% guarantee while it's working as intended. 0% guarantee when that system malfunctions

apitbullnamedzeus

Another rollover on I79. We’re already short truckers nationwide and it looks like two more openings came up today.

greatsirius

Dear lord I shouldn't laugh at this

lod254

We have a plague and can't get people to avoid it. Republicans are driving right at the accident.

apitbullnamedzeus

Why did you have to make this political?
