I have seen a miracle. My daughter was born on the day the child was born in Blade Runner 2049.

Does Harrison Ford know he's going to be a dad (again..), at 78 years old?
OP is Harrison Ford.

Shit, time to watch Bladerunner 2049. Again.
Man, poor Villeneuve, I'm desperate to see his Dune, I hope it goes well.
2049 in my opinion was one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen that man truly understand the material he is working with I have high hopes for dune
He builds amazing atmospheres, and 2049 is spectacular.
I felt like I was in that world when I came out if the theatre, I watched it alone and came out of the theatre in to a dark city with neon lights
Yes! In theatres is was incredible, a sensorial journey, just amazing.
I’ve seen it once in the theater but I haven’t watched it again. I just know that while I’ll still love the movie, it will lose a little magic when I see it on the small screen. Perfect theater movie.
I love the movies, saw it in IMAX.
Problem is that I conditioned myself to fall asleep during Blade Runner because I sometimes put it on when I can't sleep.
So I had to see it twice in cinemas, but that's a win in my book!
Apart from the obvious sci fi leaps (replicants, etc) you pretty much are in that world!
Google "Arial Spanish polytunnels" to find the opening scene.
Google to find out how much sea levels are likely to rise to envisage that sea wall scene.
Go to any major south East Asian city at night, and the only notable difference is the lack of holograms.
Villeneuve didn't do good world building from his imagination, he did it based on forecasting. The best kind of sci-fi world building!
All that overlap and still no hologram Ana de Armas, smh
When I compare the city scenes between the original and 2049, I gotta say that the original feels way more immense. Somehow, 2049, although very atmospheric in its own way, just doesn’t feel as big of a world as the original.
edit: If I think back to the original, I think the camera just captures so much more in frame, whereas 2049's frame feels much more centered on a smaller stage.
I don't agree, but understand how you feel. Well put.
Everyone who got chills when the music for him going back to LAPD headquarters after the opening scene started amping up raise your hands.
I sill remover thinking to myself right before the “hands interlinked” scene that “Holy shit, this is a real fucking film. Been awhile” I remember smiling and then sat back and I disappeared
*Children of Men* comes to mind as another world that feels totally lived in like this one. Both excellent movies.
I can distinctly remember seeing the tattered old London 2012 Olympics t-shirt in that movie and thinking "huh, that's cool, I guess that will exist (and be old) one day"
I kind of disagree. I think he does build amazing atmospheres and the atmosphere of 2049 was spectacular... But that was it. I thought the plot really fell flat.
That's kind of been my feel for a lot of Philip K Dick stories and if I'm being honest the only part of the OG bladerunner I liked was the plot twist.
Dune is one of my all time favorite stories so I hope the plot is good but I kind of expect the atmosphere to be amazing while the actual story comes off as kinda meh
It is my favorite movie of all time. Maybe not a popular opinion but I love everything about that movie.
I don't know of anyone who liked the original that did not also like 2049.
I’ve met plenty of purist neck beards who worship the original but think the sequel is blasphemy. Something about a giant plot hole but I think it’s really just cool to hate for sequels sake.
I feel like my favorite is always shifting but Villeneuve is definitely my favorite director. Prisoners, Sicario, Enemy, Arrival, 2049 I mean many directors never direct two great films, let alone that many. If he hits Dune out of the park he will be one of the greatest directors alive or ever for that matter.
I agree. I don't know shit about dune. I'm going in blind. All I know is the spice must flow. Villeneuve is the sole reason I'm going to see it. Sicario made such an impression on me that I immediately made it a point to watch all his other movies (of which I had already seen half and not known if but thought "damn, that was good!") And I'm afraid to watch Sicario again because it was just such a great movie that I dont want to potentially ruin it by finding out it isn't an 11 out of 10.
Yeah 2049 is the perfect sequel imo
I really enjoyed how it was its own movie. It didn't try to be or one-up the original. Excellent in its own unique ways.
It pulls this amazing trick of both emulating and expanding on the themes of the original while being its own movie.
Yes. And also Aliens
If you haven't already, watch 2001: A Space Odyssey. That and BR2049 are among my favorite sci fi films of all time.
I’ve seen a *lot* of movies, and it’s rare for me to see anything that causes me to think “That’s something I’ve never seen before.”
It happened multiple times in this film — specifically, the indoor water reflections and the transition from the burning embers to the city.
Obviously you can make the argument that Deakins had as much to do with the look of the film as Villeneuve, but you can’t argue that the man doesn’t know how to make excellent films.
Oh of course. Deakins is the fucking man.
It makes me wonder if there was ever a time when Villeneuve walked onto set and was like “Jesus Christ, dude. This is so ridiculously beautiful that no one is even going to talk about what I did.”
I like to imagine Deakins kept making things fucking amazing out of Oscar spite.
Has he never won? That would be a fucking travesty.
He hadn’t…until this movie.
At least he's finally getting his recognition. The man has been knocking it out of the park for decades now.
It's actually funny. Deakins himself has said that making a shot stand out is the last thing in his mind since it detracts from the story being told.
I have no idea what he's on about since his work is pure art.
The movie is just amazing to look at every new scene was amazing I was constantly impressed and loved every moment of it
I saw it in theatre with a friend who hadn't seen the original. I was absolutely enthralled by the movie but she hated it.
2049 is so good, I love it.
I saw it 3 times in IMAX 3D and once in Dolby something. It is currently my favorite movie.
Think I might have to watch it again. So many people say it's magnificent. I thought it was shite and they're all just jumping on the hype bandwagon.
It's great if you are into that 80s cyberpunk aesthetic, and truly a wonderful follow up to the original movie.
But if you were never into that or had little idea about the original, this film will probably be a miss for you. It was never about flashy action but more about slow exposition of the mind and humanity.
I actually had the opposite experience. I’ve never understood the reverence for the original, as blasphemous as that may be. But I loved 2049 and honestly feel like it’s better than the original, at least in my opinion.
I think it greatly depends when you were exposed to the original. If you watched it when it first came out, or was one of your first introduction to cyberpunk, it would probably be a very memorable experience.
But if you watched it much later, after all the other films/books/games that were inspired by Bladerunner, you'll probably feel the idea is nothing fresh and the film feels very slow for a story that you've been expecting.
And that's why 2049 was great, because it tells a different story in the same universe while keeping it similar in theme but still intriguing (and beautiful to look at). And fans of cyberpunk material knows that mind/humanity/soul will undoubtedly be one of the key theme, but now you're left wondering just how special Ryan Gosling's character was when >!he wasn't really!<, and whether the origin makes the character or the journey completes it.
But yeah, while I think Bladerunner still holds up well by itself, I can't imagine it would feel special to those who have already seen dozens of titles inspired by it.
Same feelings here. 2049 was a visual delight, favorite scene being the gunfight in vegas with holo Elvis flickering on and off. Super good audio/visual sequence in that scene.
I’m right there with you. Huge fan of the original, didn’t like 2049. I should watch it again and see if it’s any better for me.
It's such a visually beautiful movie with its own adaptation/evolution of the original Bladerunner aesthetic, that I can't imagine not loving it for that reason alone.
Maybe don't go in with too many expectations, but (especially if you like Arrival, Sicario, etc.) remember that you're watching another Denis Villenueve film and you might enjoy it better for it.
I love both movies and especially love that they capture similar atmosphere while being so visually and narratively distinct.
I hope so. Even if it doesn’t it’s going to look beautiful though
The cinematographer Roger Deakins from Blade Runner 2049 didn't join him on Dune and instead made 1917.
Well then maybe we got two dope movies out of it.
Seriously, Villienueve can currently do no wrong in my book. I need to go back and watch his early movies but I've seen everything post Prisoners and he's 5/5 on making awesome movies.
Also, he made enemy and arrival without Deakins so I'm sure him and Greg Fraser(no slouch of his own) will make a very visually appealing movie. Deakins is fucking awesome though, that scene in Sicario of the firefight in the traffic jam is so fucking awesome.
Yeah, Sicario is what made me a Deakins fan, as opposed to liking movies he worked on. I saw 1917 because of him.
Bruh 1917 fucking wrecked me. Good film to watch once, maybe twice.
Wait why poor Villenueve?
The Dune movie has been postponed,
Edit: Not postponed again, I mean the original delay. Sorry for spreading confussion.
Idk, I’ve been googling but can’t find any new news? I really hope not.
That report was false, it's still releasing simultaneously in theatres and HBOMax on October 1st.
No it hasn’t.
The issue right now is that the simultaneous release on HBOMAX (assuming that happens) will obviously hurt the box office, and could reduce the chances of the rest of the story being told.
It’s also possible that it will be such a big streaming success that they’ll green light the next one, but I won’t be holding my breath.
Why they chose a movie that only covers a third of the 1st novel and not a HBO branded Series is beyond idiotic. Herbert be praised
But in this format we get one of the greatest living directors and not... D&D...
It’s premiering at Venice film festival hopefully that means oscars
I just watched it in 4K for the first time. There’s so much good stuff in this movie. It’s hard for me to imagine a single favorite scene; it’s literally like every frame is a painting. If you held my feet to the fire, ai’d say my favorite scene was >!when Deckard and K fight in front of Elvis’s hologram.!< It’s just too damn well made. Villeneuve is a genius.
Don’t forget Roger Deakins!
That scene as well as the threesome are the most impressive scenes of 2049 to me. The whole movie is a masterpiece tho.
Thanks for reminding me that Tony stopped making Every Frame A Painting. :(
>!Harrison accidentally for real punched gosling in face in that scene. !<
Since You did a spoiler
Yeah I remember seeing the picture of that floating around Reddit, Ryan seemed shocked and surprised while Harrison looked mortified🤣
You need to thank Roger Deakins majority of the beauty in the film
WITHIN CELLS INTERLINKED
FYI The voice who gives the baseline test is also the bad guy from Teen Wolf
'You're not even close to baseline!"
Time to watch it for the first time.
You are about to be blessed with visual and narrative Sci-Fi splendor
I mean, 3rd time this week isn't bad right? Right?
That exactly what I was thinking!
Spoiler alert: The author of this post is a robot.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
Reading about how that monologue actually elicited tears among the film crew is one of my favorite things.
The way he delivers the "you people" part - so full of disdain and envy at the same time. He really did fucking nail it.
“I’ve seen things…”-husband after seeing the delivery
I will always upvote this quote. So damn beautiful and supposedly unscripted. Brilliant.
I don't know if I've ever heard a better monologue, if anyone has any that are even close to this I'd love to see them
It’s my birthday too and there was an eclipse today
Wow, how did you come out of the womb knowing how to read, write and Reddit? Crazy times!!
Hes a member of r/nextfuckinglevel
Great day to be alive!
Me too! Happy birthday!
It's my birthday too! But I'm stuck at work all day.
Same here! Happy Birthday
Happy birthday! My daughter turns 2 today, and it’s also my cake day!!
Hey, me too. With OP's daugther, there's now at least 3 of us with a June 10th birthday!
It’s my birthday as well this is like the first time I’ve seen other people have it.
me too! happy birthday
Hey it's my birthday too!
June 10th gang rise up
Did you name her Ana?
We went with KD6-3.7 just to throw people off.
Is that you, Elon?
I could see someone actually naming their child "Katy Six" for that reason, lol.
I'm from the UK, that's clearly 6th October 21, sorry bru 😉
We’ll convert her to metric or whatever. Does that help?
Haha! Congratulations tho 👍🏻👍🏻
My son was just born as well, but I've never watched Blade Runner. What's the importance here? Should i watch it? (Congrats btw)
I think in the movie >!the woman is born of a real human and synthetic machine, she is the first of her kind.!<
I thought Ridley Scott said that >!Deckard is a replicant!<.
Yes. >!The miracle is that they're able to reproduce naturally now. The girl is the daughter of 2 synthetics.!<
This is correct answer.
God damnit ok so he is a robot. Just posted earlier and was comparing the two. Was like the first film let’s you believe at the end that he is a robot and in this film he is human. His did he get older though? Thought they had a 3 yr life or something. Rachel died but decker who is older is still kicking.
Only the Nexus-6 replicants had a 4 year lifespan. Deckard could have been a Nexus-7 like Rachael, who didn't have an imposed lifespan.
And Harrison Ford (or the screenwriter? Both?) said he wasn’t
There’s no one correct answer. Pick the interpretation you prefer. Mine is that he isn’t. But the mystery and paranoia around the question is what makes it legendary.
Yeah but nobody wants to know what the answer is
It’s my favorite movie (for multiple reasons now) so I highly recommend watching.
ur a robot
I can pass Voight Kampff but it’s really hard for me to find all the cars in those damn captcha grids.
And mountains -IMHO a hill does not constitute a mountain, but apparently I'm a robot.
So he's from the future ?
Or... pretty much anywhere but the US? Does anyone else do it that way?
Germany here: Can confirm it's October 6th.
I scrolled too far for someone to say this.
Indian,we follow same rule,
I actually thought child was born in October 2021 without realising its still june.. until i saw your comment.. lmao
"Congratulations ,its a protagonist"
She is the chosen ome
*he is our master*
*he will choose who will go and who will stay*
I still laugh when I remember those guys who edited the movie to end on a grim spot and showed it to their mom lmao. They even added sad music as the credits rolled.
Are all the thousands of other children today also the chosen ones or just this kid because she got posted on reddit? /s
Fuckin fantastic movie.
It was already my favorite, now it’s on a different level altogether!
We're going to go on. Cells.
They were all put together at a time. Cells.
Millions and billions of them. Cells.
Were you ever arrested? Cells.
Did you spend much time in the cell? Cells.
Have you ever been in an instituion? Cells.
Do they keep you in a cell? Cells.
When you're not performing your duties do they keep you in a little box? Cells.
You should rename her Zhora lol. Congrats !
Why don't you say that three times? Within cells interlinked.
Will you raise them as a "Replicant" or a "Replican"?
About 385,000 babies are born each day according to the UN.
That's a lot of miracles.
Today is my birthday as well. Guess I never caught that. Gonna have to watch it again now.
Yes me too! Happy birthday!
A future memory designer you got there.
I don't know if I call that a miracle, maybe just a coincidence?
Don't worry, anyone in the UK still has their chance in October!
You mean, the entire world except one country.
Honestly what the fuck are American dates? Why would the month come first? There is no conceivable reason...
I think the majority of people in the US say "June tenth, twenty twenty-one" and not "Tenth of June"
Then why celebrate “The 4th of July” instead of “July the 4th”
We do both. But we’ve been celebrating Independence Day 200+ years and back then we said it more British and it kept.
I think most people in the US actually say "July fourth".
When referring to the date itself. When referring to the holiday, most people here say the 4th of July, sometimes people say Independence Day.
Japan is ISO
Which is really the best.
Are you sure it's just one child? Do you know of anyone who might have made a DNA copy?
Definitely not and don’t go looking for one..
Happy Same Birthday!
It's my birthday too! But I'm an old man..
My birthday too. Officially old enough to have my age on tombstone candles in the party store.
You mean the Elden Ring Gameplay trailer date??
From a fellow 6/10 birthday replicant happy birthday to your daughter and congrats to you!
My birthday is tomorrow, but happy birthday to you!
I'm gonna be the man who ruins it all: 300,000 babies have been born today
It might be a miracle if no one was born today
300,000 miracles, yes
Congratulations! My first born is 4 today, birthday twins!
I’m pretty damn impressed that you even recalled the exact date. That’s pretty cool
You should set some kind of 28 year long alarm as a reminder for her to watch that movie on her 28th birthday in 2049. Congratulations though!
" You have to push that kid out today babe, it's really important."
It’s not October yet though.
385 000 miracles that day.
More human than human.
Do you worry about the hospital bill? Do you make much money as a grub farmer?
We also grow garlic, but that’s just for ourselves.
When do you start planting the seed in her mind that her birth is "just a piece of the puzzle" ? Will you "dress her in blue when it's time for her to go"?
That's the name settled than
She is going to change the world
She is the chosen one
Congratulations!! She will be a future cyberpunk!
She’s the chosen one
It is time.
Play Vangelis during all nap times ;)
Only a Redditor would notice this. Congrats man!
My birthday is on the 6th of October and I got excited. Than I remembered it was the other way around xD still excited tho, hope you will have a great time together ❤️
Her and 384,999 other children.
My birthday is June 10th
Imagine having no idea while watching that movie and the elaboration on the importance of that date, that it would be the most important date for you personally.
one of \~385000 babies born today
Congratulations to you and your family!
It's not october yet, bro.
And the first thing you did was jump on Reddit to post a fucking meme, jfc
My son turns 3 today! Happy birthday little miracle!
and million other little shits.
Being an Aussie, we won’t have the 6/10/2021 until October, but it will be my birthday!
People arguing that the date is supposed to be October 6th... both Blade Runner films take place in the United States 32-37 years after they were released, so why do you think we'd change our dating scheme in less than 40 years when we've barely adopted metric in the (over) 200 years that it's existed?
A lot of people are born on this day what's special?
He posted it on reddit ....
Yep, no other child was born on this day.
Along with all the other thousands of babies born that day
Typical redditor. Has baby and goes on reddit allll day long instead of performing parental duties.
How is this a miracle? Millions of babies are born each day. Also, why make it a submission in a sub about pictures?
Edit: a scholar “lol’d” at the fact that I mentioned “millions of babies born every day”. It’s more accurately “hundreds of thousands” of babies born every day. It changes EVERYTHING.
