Dont be a crumb creep, and remember to vote!
Edit: We also have another post-election AMA coming up:
Anna Orso will be joining us for another AMA at 1 p.m. this Thursday to talk through the results of the election, what happens next, and how the winner could reshape City Hall. You’ll be able to drop questions in a thread a starting at 11 a.m.
Anyone have experience with PA unemployment? Currently unemployed and collecting UE checks. However, I just did a paid training for writing audio descriptions. I suppose this counts as self-employment since I will be paid 400 dollars. Should I report this as work?
I really hope the Deli/Grocery store opening near Leverington & Umbria will be an actual grocery store with some healthy options. I love the little corner delis in Philly but man it's all junk food.
Anyone know what's being built next to it though? Right by the corner of the streets near the white house?
There's two additional builds going in that plot. The one that's along the backside of the townhomes facing Leverington on that teeny tiny lot is a [5-unit apt building](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/106-Leverington-Ave-Philadelphia-PA-19127/122288421_zpid/). The bigger space right behind the new deli is a [15-unit apt building](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4620-Umbria-St-Philadelphia-PA-19127/2100327803_zpid/). Really sucks to be one of those townhome owners right now, I'd imagine they're living in a nightmare with builds on both sides of them.
I live right by this and am super excited about the deli/market, hoping they will carry some decent grocery and produce options so I don't have to drive somewhere every time I'm out of 2 things. I used to rent an off-street spot in this shared lot before everything was bought out towards the end of last year.
Ideas for visitors from Canada this weekend? We are going to a Phillies game and have booked the Eastern State Penitentiary tour. Would love suggestions for shopping, gluten-free food, and dancing/karaoke. We are in our late 20s.
There’s Sunday night karaoke at Bob and Barbara’s on South Street! On Thursdays there’s karaoke at Loco Pez in west Philly, just in case you’re coming a bit earlier.
For dancing my favorite is The Trestle Inn. Friday night is 60s soul music and Saturday night is disco, and they specialize in whiskey sours and they put real egg in it, it’s a vibe. It’s $10 in cash to enter so you’d have to pick up some USD lol. The crowd is in the late 20s zone and friendly and into actually dancing - tell me what music you like dancing to I might be able to help more, I love going out dancing
For breakfast one day try Okie Dokie Donuts on Snyder Avenue they’re gluten free and tasty! I also just found this Philly Eater article of GF options that might help. https://philly.eater.com/maps/best-gluten-free-restaurants-philadelphia
Does anyone live on a block with permit parking? What are the pros and cons?
My block is trying to get signups to get permit parking. I’m interested, but I don’t want a larger police presence. What changes comes after having permit parking?
my block is unpermitted and it's all expired/fake tags and jersey plates
the next block over is permitted and it is none of those
PPA won't even ticket non parking offences (like the registration issues etc) on this block, even when it's pointed out.
I'm assuming you mean permit parking not private parking. PPA is not PPD so all you get is meter maids, not police. Pros: much easier for me and room mate to park Cons: harder for guests to park
Anyone work in Wilmington but live here in Philly?
Got a job offer for Wilmington but not sure if I wanna live there, seems like Philly has more to offer. Any thoughts? I imagine a few of y'all do this commute? I hear Delaware income tax is high and I get taxed that if I work in Delaware PLUS pay a philly tax if I live in Philly so i'd get "double dipped".
Was just curious if anyone does this, yeah. Someone said to just live in DE and get a hotel/airbnb when I come to philly lmao.
I’ve done the commute. If you have parking it’s not bad.. otherwise you want to start your day early so you can leave by 345/4 to avoid traffic and get parking
You’ll pay state level Delaware/ Pennsylvania tax… there is a credit system so you aren’t double taxed
You will pay city (Philly tax)
You’ll pay federal tax
How old are you? Trolley Square in Wilmington is a decent neighborhood if you're like 25-35ish. Walkable, couple of decent bars, safe. Otherwise you're probably looking at a 50min train ride every day and that's if your work is last-mile accessible from the RR station.
I know some people who do this. Ideally you work close enough to Wilmington's train station to take regional rail. If not the drive is not as bad as taking 76, but you will get boned some days.
Wilmington is much smaller and less walkable, but it has nice neighborhoods and there is still stuff to do. It feels much more like a commuter city so I think most people have a car there.
some lush is driving a flatbed truck around fairmount park with a speaker stack and an amen brown banner, blasting music. seems like a great use of resources!
Hi there,
My family (myself, wife, 4YO) will be spending the summer in a house in Ardmore. I know this might be late in the game, but does anyone have any recommendations for after-camp or weekend sports (or other activities) for our LO? We were thinking either swim or tee ball but open to anything as long as it's for a beginner level. The biggest factor for us is having an instructor who is great with little kids, as our son can be quite...resistant lol.
To be clear, he's already enrolled in a camp from 9am to 3pm.
Thank you!
TL;DR - It's the only way to link stickied posts from the sidebar/header
In an effort to ~~get people to use the recurring threads~~ streamline the user experience, we have the chat threads added to "collections" so they can be navigated to via the main subreddit page. The downside of this, is that formatting for iOS, android, new.reddit, old.reddit are all different and mostly incompatible with one another. This particular "feature" happens to be more unsavory for new.reddit and iOS users. We haven't figured out a good solution, and to be 100% honest it isn't terribly high on the priority list and is forgotten about frequently.
Moral of the story is, old.reddit is still best reddit.
Usually anything with a garden section should have them for sale, like a hardware store, or a grocery store. Even flower shops sometimes stock seeds so check in and ask.
Was in a similar situation and I got an appointment fairly quick last year with Harmony Mental Health, have you tried them? They have a low rating on google but they filled whatever I needed and do telehealth which is so good for anxiety
Why is Helen Gym so polarizing? I’m fatally online and have noticed she definitely gets the most snarky comments even though many are voting for her too- wondering what’s up with that
I'm surprised people don't mention fair workweek more often when talking about Gym. I've heard many times that she's "all talk" and "full of it", that she won't get anything done, etc. And maybe all the people saying that are fortunate to not work shit jobs where philly fair workweek made such a noticeable difference but that piece of legislation was big for me. If she does win, I hope workers rights continue to be a priority
i guess you can make the case most politicians say one thing and do another a majority of the time, but gym has taken a lot of contradictory actions throughout her career (some of which are not great, some of which are hot air). combine that with the holier than thou progressivism she (rightly or wrongly) has a reputation for and her clear aspirations for higher office and you have a recipe for someone perceived to be politicking "for the vibes".
i lean fairly progressive as well, but i think we all want a mayor who will get things done instead of fighting everyone so they can accomplish "their vision" the next 6 years (but achieve very little during that time). this election is a bit existential in that it's literally a new guard coming into office, so somewhat of a battle for the soul of philadelphia. high stakes makes everyone edgy.
I stood in the voting booth for what felt like forever because I STILL couldn’t decide between them.
I just hope all our votes aren’t split and Parker gets it because of that. We’ll see.
Yeah, it is. If we had ranked choice I firmly believe Rhynhart or Gym would have won. They were 1 and 2 for sooo many people.
And also Parker ran a good campaign and focused HARD on the African American vote, so I’m not too surprised.
I think it's the combination of her very vocal stanbase and how she's perceived by folks on the ground. When I was living in Nashville the stuff I heard about Gym (especially from my city councillor boss) was way different than the stuff community members would say to me about her when I moved back here and was organizing.
Really made me see her in a different light.
There's been a lot of very public stuff recently of her saying very cringy shit. A lot of the media coverage of her is that she's "idealistic to a fault."
Despite all of that she's gotten major endorsements from out-of-town progressives (Bernie, AOC) and Jeff Yass is absolutely fucking terrified of her, given his last minute $600k+ ad buys. She has some notable accomplishments but has some seemingly exploitable traits that people like to point out about most progressives.
Even using a list of official Dem endorsements for judge and council-at-large; it still took me 5 minutes (to vote).
I voted for Parker because I am curious to see what a female mayor does. Rhynhart was a close second; but I couldn't see her handling a major crisis.
edit: ...and by 'major crisis' I mean violent protests and/or looting for multiple days in a row which also affects distribution of basic goods and services.
[In her case, yes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzZZAhXTnIs) granted, there is comment below the video which argues against her abilities; but I like her overall tone and body language.
If I drop my ballot into a USPS mailbox will it get there in time to be counted? I’m too miserably sick to make the effort to go to one of the special voting mailboxes.
from EXPERIENCE.... you drop it in 2 weeks before the election, expect for it to be received 6 weeks AFTER the election. so you may as well have thrown it out.
Unless you have some hard evidence backing this up, I am going to say this is untrue and remove it for the time being.
Ballots must be received by 8pm, and I would not count on the postal service to do that by today
My guy, while I do honestly believe you, I hope you realize some proof of claim is necessary as anyone can pretend to be anything on the internet.
Sincerely,
His Royal Highness King Charles III
`edit: bro blocked me for this comment.`
Did your ballot not come with instructions or are you unfamiliar with the postal system?
In either case, the USPS does not have same day service and ballots must be received by 8pm today.
edit: if your ballot did not come with instructions, make sure the ballot is inside the blue "privacy envelope" and that envelope is inside the mailer envelope. You need to sign *and* date the mailer on the left side (assuming you're not receiving assistance).
Not doubting you, but I can't find any information from the City or USPS stating that.
edit:
* The city says [get it in by 8pm](https://vote.phila.gov/news/2023/04/21/mail-ballots-office-hours-and-dropboxes-for-2023-primary/); no word on same day USPS service.
* The state says [May 16, 2023 at 8 p.m. – VOTED BALLOTS must be RECEIVED by your county election office - postmarks are not enough.](https://www.vote.pa.gov/Voting-in-PA/Pages/Mail-and-Absentee-Ballot.aspx); no mention of same day service.
* The Philadelphia Citizen says: [Your mailed ballot must be received by 8pm on Election Day. So best bet to mail it the week Election Day.](https://thephiladelphiacitizen.org/voting-pennsylvania/)
* WHYY says: [Completed mail ballots must be received by county boards of elections by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Postmarks do not count.](https://whyy.org/articles/pennsylvania-philadelphia-primary-election-2023-voter-guide-deadlines/) - no mention of same day service.
* NBC says: [That means, it's probably too late to just throw a mail-in or absentee ballot into the mail and expect it to be where it needs to be in time.](https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/politics/election-day-voters-guide/3566366/)
* The Inquirer says: [Again, if you’re cutting it close to the deadline, personally hand-delivering your mail-in ballot at the county election office](https://www.inquirer.com/philly-tips/philadelphia-2023-election-mail-ballot-application-deadline-drop-box.html).
Finally, I don't see a [press release by the USPS](https://about.usps.com/newsroom/local-releases/pa/) stating what you've said.
I'm 100% willing to be wrong on this, but you understand why I'm skeptical.
Yeah, they're fast, reliable and affordable, but they will generally do the minimum unless requested otherwise. Obviously there's good and bad sides to that depending on what you're looking for. But I've never had a problem with the quality of the work outside of one random issue with my subaru that 3 other mechanics couldn't figure either until I took it to foreign fix.
How to host guests on SEPTA regional rails?
I’m hosting some friends this weekend to visit the italian market festival. i’m coming from manayunk and plan on taking the train in. I’ve been trying to do some research on the best way to get them tickets to ride but it seems like there really isn’t one, outside of forcing them to download the septa app and register a key card?
I thought i could get quick tickets but they’re only for the subway lines?
Can anyone confirm? or let me know whats the best way to buy tickets for guests traveling from manayunk to jefferson station, im at a loss :(
Compare the ticket cost for the group to an Uber/lyft. For one person train is cheaper, for more its closer in price. And you dont have to deal with inconvenient train schedules.
If you pay cash inbound, save whatever the conductor gives you, you will need it to be let out of the center city turnstiles.
Departing from center city, it says you need to prepay a quicktrip ticket before the turnstiles instead of cash on board. https://www5.septa.org/travel/fares/regional-rail-zones/
I dont know if they have quicktrip machines in outlying stations as well, i'm assuming not.
to add to what /u/DoGreat_DieGood said, they also take credit card on regional rail now too. Although paying for your fare on the train is very slightly more than buying tickets beforehand (as in like 25 cents more)
https://www5.septa.org/travel/fares/ways-to-pay/
We took the train from the airport last fall and my ticket was about $4-4.50 with a Septa card. My friend didn’t have a Septa card and their ticket was $8.
I think it probably still owes me for the amount of stuff I put in over the pandemic. Of course I have more to go in so there's no excuse for it to be empty.
I can't remember which candidate party sent it but one of the election day texts had links to news articles about how shit and corrupt she is and was like you don't have to vote for me but she's a bad idea
There was dude just firing a gun into the air drunkenly when I lived up in oak lane. The whole block called the PPD, they didn't show up until in the evening the next day like "I'm here to talk about the noise complaint calls you made yesterday". Useless
Wouldn't be surprised or disappointed (assuming we get good drafts/prospects). I'm not going to turn my back on him yet, but his post season performance record and honestly attitude are not impressive.
I hate my neighbor so much. Wife went out the other day did too much and overwhelmed herself, ran into neighbors and before they could do their usual talking forever, she told them she was sorry but she was tired and angry and didn't have the spoons to socialize and parted ways. Seems fine, right?
Well the neighbor called my mum and complained about wife and claimed she cursed them out. Like she's going to be 37 in two months who the hell calls someone's mother in law to complain?? It's bad enough they complain about my behavior to my mum.
I really wish they would stop threatening to move on the neighborhood group chat and just do it.
Also I wish the SPCA would follow up on the animal abuse complaints I keep putting in about them because their poor dogs are filthy with nails that are so long they curl, and the one is constantly crying in pain. My neighbors suck.
Oh my god what is with garbage neighbors neglecting their dogs? The house next to me in East Falls has at least three dogs and they bark all the fucking time. They're never walked, they poop in their paved backyard (which the neighbors never pick up), and they can't be in the yard when we're out at the same time otherwise they ram the fence-- even pushed our lights off their nails once.
I have no idea how many people live there, it's like a clown house of revolving trashy screaming people. I know one of them works at Lucky Chance and my roommate booked it once he heard her shouting from the kitchen.
Holy fuck my back hurts. I'm not sure what I did to fuck it up, but it's been two weeks and stretching hasn't been helping. I've tweaked it in the past, but usually stretches and activity get it back to normal after a day or so. Bonus annoyance on health/diet: the script this year has been "lose a pound a week for three weeks, then gain four pounds in one week" and I'm fucking tired of it.
I mentioned writing two flash fictions last week and I just typed them up: **[Helicopter](http://irregularexperience.blogspot.com/2023/05/helicopter.html)** and **[Goblin](http://irregularexperience.blogspot.com/2023/05/goblin.html)**. In case it's not obvious, someone draws me a picture and I write a story about the picture on a single sheet of paper.
Tomorrow is the "big chat" with my boss about her retirement. Could use some good vibes.
Bonus complaint: I want to go to lunch and bs with friends, but nobody ever wants to join. I don't know if it's a post-pandemic new normal of "nobody hangs out anymore" or if I smell bad and nobody's told me, but I miss seeing friends at lunch.
I’m on my 4th week of antibiotics for a very stupid accidental injury, and I cannot eat anything without feeling like I might immediately vomit and/or shit my pants. Hasn’t happened yet, but I truly thought today was gonna be the day!
Luckily the only time this has ever happened to me I was in austria in the smallest bathroom possible where it was possible for my head to reach the sink from the toilet.
Shoutout to making this possible, Innsbruck.
It actually was also one of the top 4ish most beautiful places I've ever been in my life, so it definitely has at least two things going for it.
Truly a wonderful place though, I'd recommend it to anyone.
I was all set to remember to write-in my district counsel person (whatever douchebag that is now gonna get Clarke's spot), but looking at my ballot, i confirmed that I'm no longer in the stupid 5th district Fishtown carve out, and i feel less bad about voting for Squilla.
Hah.
You are mistaken: you are in the carve out. Seriously, look at the map, it is a little wedge that is part of district 5 in the riverwards, while the rest is in 1st district.
I could've sworn I changed my voter registration to my new address after the 2020 election - I've even got my mail-im ballot for the last election here! - but the state doesn't agree so I've gotta go ten minutes down the street to vote instead of five.
That happened to me, but I didn't realize it. They let me vote at my old polling place as long as I filled out a form to update to my new address while I was there.
Alright so I already know who I’m gonna vote for Mayor… but what about the rest of the ballot? Feel like there’s never really any discussion on here regarding the undercard and I’m completely clueless
[Earlier that day](https://static.independent.co.uk/2021/03/25/21/Screen%20Shot%202021-03-25%20at%202.36.30%20PM.png?quality=75&width=640&auto=webp)
I kid, he actually seems alright and I voted for him. Hard making a choice for councilpeople this year.
Do mods discourage discussion on this? Because I feel like every election there’s never any threads on this. Idk if maybe they’re not trying to have any political bias here but it would be nice to see some discussion.
Not really, but people don't really understand the entire civic process and the media drums up big roles like mayor, so even in Philly where there's a weak mayor system, people focus disproportionate effort on discussing that.
This is a good resource for the City Council Candidates
[https://billypenn.com/2023/03/19/city-council-candidates-philadelphia-2023-list/](https://billypenn.com/2023/03/19/city-council-candidates-philadelphia-2023-list/)
Do not vote Alex Hunt for Controller. Vote for Christy Brady (who is the acting controller)
I'm going to with what looks like the more sure bet on this one but it would be unbelievably entertaining to watch Fox and others have a fucking meltdown for months being like *"Philly elects a stripper and OF model to controller."* *
*that has a masters degree in health science and a masters degree in public health
They would have a point. Having a masters in health science/public health =/= experience in any sort of budgeting/auditing/fiscal oversight. The stripper part is just extra juice for the media, and distracts from the fact she is wildly unqualified for the position
Yeah, if they were in something financial/accounting I'd give it more consideration.
But yeah, if they get mad at AOC now for having a bartender job in college, this would be hysteria for years.
Applied for my passport back in March after multiple cancelled appointments. It finally shows as having been received late last week.
Expedited service is now at 7-9 weeks and my flight is just about a month away. Totally not stressed at all.
I'm going to piggyback off your misfortune to make a PSA:
##Apply for your passport before you need it.
If you don't want to shell out the $165 up front, consider getting a [passport card](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/card.html) for $65. The passport card also acts as a Real ID for whenever that goes into effect and is cheaper than adding a Real ID to your driver's license (at least in PA, where renewal is every four years).
Just to be clear, **A PASSPORT CARD IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A PASSPORT**.
It can only be used for the following:
- Entering the United States at land border crossings and sea ports-of-entry from:
Canada
Mexico
Caribbean countries
Bermuda
- **The passport card cannot be used for international air travel.**
- Real ID: Passport books and cards are alternatives to a state-issued ID.
I sent my renewal off in late March and just got my new passport in the mail last week, I feel like it was a bit faster than I expected so you may still be OK. Of course my wife sent hers off at the exact same time and still hasn't received it so who knows.
Everything in one post, here we go...
Good news - the no soliciting sticker on my front window must have worked because this is the first election cycle ever where no one has knocked on my door.
Didn't get the last job that I had a million interviews for, but they wanted to keep me in the loop for other opportunities, so here I go down the interview path again. A good thing, to be sure, but exhausting.
Tabachoy is excellent. Highly recommend.
Official count down to Italian market festival. Prepare your stomachs and livers.
Be prepared for crowds/don’t be in a rush. Start at one end or another, either fitzwater or federal and work your way through checking out the craft vendors and deciding what you want to eat. Grab a beer at 12 steps and a limoncello at villa di roma. Once you’ve honed in on your food choices (cannuli’s roast pork and sausage sandwiches are my personal favorites, but there’s tons of good stuff) dive in for the food and take a sidewalk seat near the grease pole to watch while you eat and imbibe. If you need to get to something quicker take 10th or 8th and use the side streets to dive into 9th where you need to.
Come hungry.
I miss getting the “I voted” stickers since I vote by mail now.
I think they should start mailing window stickers with the ballots that say, “I already voted by mail, please go away” to kill two birds with one stone.
Who do I contact to make this happen? The commissioners?
Mostly I vote in person because my polling station is very convenient and I enjoy the sense of accomplishment I get from the physical act of voting in a voting booth. But I won’t lie, there’s a not so small part of me that missed the sticker when I voted by mail in 2020.
I’ve had the morning from hell… I either lost my wallet and someone took it or it’s just lost. So I don’t have a license. For voting today I can’t remember if we need ID or not. If we do would a passport and a piece of mail with my address work? I’m absolutely gutted and am having to go about cancelling all my cards and such.
I'M SO EXCITED WE'RE GETTING A NEW DELI/MARKET ON THIS SIDE OF MANAYUNK!!!! [Umbria Gourmet](https://www.facebook.com/umbriagourmetphilly/) opens in a few weeks!!!
quick double post. I'm planning to go to the Italian Market festival this weekend and I'm super stoked. what's the better day to go, saturday or sunday? is there a best time to come through?
Both days will be packed, the only thing that seems to influence that is weather. But even in rain or scorching heat it will still be busy. Early is best for easy access to food and other vendors, late is best for watching the grease pole.
[took some pictures](https://imgur.com/a/2OcwbiG) yesterday while on a nice bike ride from Conshy to Manayunk and back. Been on my bike a lot recently, which has been awesome. Did 41 miles over the weekend plus 15 yesterday. Rest of the week might be too busy to ride though
I’m getting married in august and we don’t have time/bandwidth to plan our honeymoon (we want to go to Indonesia!)
For the meantime we want to do a mini moon immediately after the wedding.
Any recommendations for affordable Caribbean getaways? (Also, we’re a same sex couple, so Jamaica is unfortunately not an option :( )
congrats! not the caribbean but very close and LGTBQ friendly - we honeymooned in the Azores with a direct flight from EWR. you book through their government at the azores getaways website and the flights, rental cars and hotels will all be planned for you, just show up! we upgraded everything so it was $4200 total with flights and everything for ten days, but i see prices as low as $600/pp. we split our time between Pico and Sao Miguel and are already planning our next trip.
There’s some really great ideas here already, but I’ll add a cruise if you think you’d like that type of trip. If you have a week for it, you’ll find some that go out of NY or Baltimore that you don’t need a flight to get to. If you are looking more for 4/5 days, there’s lots of options out of various ports in Florida. Also lots of options for 7 day cruises from FL. Your food and onboard entertainment is included. Most lines also offer a beverage package for purchase if you want a true all-inclusive feel. Many even offer the beverage package as a “free” perk. Since it’s summer, the later in August you go, the fewer kids on board.
The Cancun area has been a little iffy lately with violence, but there’s a little island right off Cancun called Isla Mujeres that’s pretty nice if you’re looking for something a little more laid back. Cute little markets, some Mayan ruins, boat tours to swim with whale sharks — highly recommend (check the best season to see them, but I think August is the tail end of peak season).
Some good options that other people have mentioned, but also shoutout to key west, which is more welcoming to all people than basically anywhere else I've been in the US.
It's not like white-sand beachy caribbean but there's plenty of fun to be had, it's in the US, and isn't often exorbitantly expensive except during fantasy fest.
Puerto Rico is amazing - going down tomorrow afternoon for an extra long weekend. There are no all inclusive resorts but el conquistador is a great resort on the east end of the island.
Otherwise you could stay in Isla Verde/condado. Plenty of beaches and walkable bars/restaurants, very safe and lots of English speaking servers and bartenders.
Or you rent a car and drive around the island, use Airbnb, see different beaches and waterfalls.....just depends how adventurous you are
Happy Election Day to those who celebrate (which should be everyone).
Got my first taste of beach weather this past weekend and no matter how I may feel, the ocean just sparks so much joy and happiness in me. I love seeing the glimmer of the waves, the roar of the breaks. Just all around good shit.
One thing I'm working on though, is my resume. The information is good, everything is up to date, but the format looks highly dated and I don't like it. The style hasn't been changed since like 2019 so I'm looking for a fresh, better look. What's the popular resume sites these days? Google, Canvas, some AI helper? I'm not at the point where I think I need someone to actually look at it, but I do want it to be more polished.
I am a corporate in-house recruiter. I stare at resumes all day long. You really don't need to worry about the style. As long as it is readable and up to date, you are fine.
In fact, the more in the weeds you get with formatting and making it look nice, the better the chances your resume will get chopped up and become illegible when passing through and ATS.
I see all types of resumes. I generally only shortlist the ones that make sense, have up to date work histories, and don't kill my eyes.
We get a lot of people who try to submit old resumes from 2015, people where it looks like they tried something fancy and Microsoft threw up all over the page, and also madlads who submit random documents like a work schedule at their current job, a pay stub, or a picture of their DL.
> Happy Election Day to those who celebrate (which should be everyone).
Obi-wan, I am disappoint. None of these elections will be decided by a single vote. Voting is just for shits and giggles.
I think since most places use a parser all that matters is that it can be read by the parser. With a human's preferences being secondary.
Unless you're a designer or something. That's a different story.
I think it’s industry dependent to an extent, but yeah I think styles go out of date. I feel like in a lot of forums I read, advice changes every 5 years or so about what info should be emphasized, whether an intro or purpose statement should be included…that kind of stuff.
I don't like the layout of mine. It looks very clunky and I know it can be better. In the best of times I wouldn't need the thing at all. Wish it could be acceptable to just fire off a LinkedIn page and maybe a website if you got one.
Dont be a crumb creep, and remember to vote! Edit: We also have another post-election AMA coming up: Anna Orso will be joining us for another AMA at 1 p.m. this Thursday to talk through the results of the election, what happens next, and how the winner could reshape City Hall. You’ll be able to drop questions in a thread a starting at 11 a.m.
Hey, I have a flight out of PHL tomorrow at 1pm, flying frontier. Is getting there 2 hrs before boarding enough time?
Is there any place to park a motorcycle cheap near 30th St Station? I am working on a new commuting plan, but I think this might be a sticking point.
Taking the driver's test at Granite Run in a couple of days, does anyone know the testing route? Any help would be great!
The crowd is in the late 20s zone and friendly and into actually dancing - tell me what music you like dancing to I might be able to help more, I love going out dancing For breakfast one day try Okie Dokie Donuts on Snyder Avenue they’re gluten free and tasty! I also just found this Philly Eater article of GF options that might help. https://philly.eater.com/maps/best-gluten-free-restaurants-philadelphia
Did you have any specific questions about what's in the [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/philadelphia/wiki/thingstodo)?
Does anyone live on a block with permit parking? What are the pros and cons? My block is trying to get signups to get permit parking. I’m interested, but I don’t want a larger police presence. What changes comes after having permit parking?
my block is unpermitted and it's all expired/fake tags and jersey plates the next block over is permitted and it is none of those PPA won't even ticket non parking offences (like the registration issues etc) on this block, even when it's pointed out.
pro: stops your block from being a dumping ground for seldom-used non-stickered cars as much cons: basically everything else
I don't own a car, so the only difference is it's harder for people to visit me.
I'm assuming you mean permit parking not private parking. PPA is not PPD so all you get is meter maids, not police. Pros: much easier for me and room mate to park Cons: harder for guests to park
Thank you! I didn’t realize that police are not involved with managing permit parking. Helpful to know.
If you have parking it’s not bad.. otherwise you want to start your day early so you can leave by 345/4 to avoid traffic and get parking You’ll pay state level Delaware/ Pennsylvania tax… there is a credit system so you aren’t double taxed You will pay city (Philly tax) You’ll pay federal tax
Thanks to whoever posted the Philadelphia Citizen voter guide in the undecided thread earlier this week. That was enormously helpful.
I’m not even eligible to vote and that was by far the most useful coverage of this race for me
some lush is driving a flatbed truck around fairmount park with a speaker stack and an amen brown banner, blasting music. seems like a great use of resources!
Hi there, My family (myself, wife, 4YO) will be spending the summer in a house in Ardmore. Thank you!
checkout soccer shots and see if they have anything that fits your timing. They run pee-wee soccer programming all over the place
Why is this a "reddit collection"
TL;DR - It's the only way to link stickied posts from the sidebar/header In an effort to ~~get people to use the recurring threads~~ streamline the user experience, we have the chat threads added to "collections" so they can be navigated to via the main subreddit page.
Good bot
Anywhere I can buy wildflower mixes? I have a lot of dirt in my backyard I'd rather see helping bees than weeds.
Usually anything with a garden section should have them for sale, like a hardware store, or a grocery store. Even flower shops sometimes stock seeds so check in and ask.

Are there any online services you can use?
I’d never heard of this! I did notice a lot of union friends like her a lot so now that connection at least makes sense. I didn’t know the why of it
i guess you can make the case most politicians say one thing and do another a majority of the time, but gym has taken a lot of contradictory actions throughout her career (some of which are not great, some of which are hot air). combine that with the holier than thou progressivism she (rightly or wrongly) has a reputation for and her clear aspirations for higher office and you have a recipe for someone perceived to be politicking "for the vibes". i lean fairly progressive as well, but i think we all want a mayor who will get things done instead of fighting everyone so they can accomplish "their vision" the next 6 years (but achieve very little during that time). this election is a bit existential in that it's literally a new guard coming into office, so somewhat of a battle for the soul of philadelphia. high stakes makes everyone edgy.
That last part hits! I was gonna vote Rhynhart for this reason but caved at the last minute and lowkey already regret it ahhh
I stood in the voting booth for what felt like forever because I STILL couldn’t decide between them. I just hope all our votes aren’t split and Parker gets it because of that. We’ll see.
Cherelle is projected to win! Now I’m like is this vote splitting what happened 😭
You’ve had the tea a few times today! 👀
I'm nosy and I grew up here so I want the city to be better! Can't stop every grifter tryna to claw their way to the top but I do what I can.
She's the "farthest left" so people are either in her camp or are looking for a more conservative pick.
There's been a lot of very public stuff recently of her saying very cringy shit. A lot of the media coverage of her is that she's "idealistic to a fault." Despite all of that she's gotten major endorsements from out-of-town progressives (Bernie, AOC) and Jeff Yass is absolutely fucking terrified of her, given his last minute $600k+ ad buys. She has some notable accomplishments but has some seemingly exploitable traits that people like to point out about most progressives.

That’s awesome. She feeling confident?
cancun on 3...depression
Even using a list of official Dem endorsements for judge and council-at-large; it still took me 5 minutes (to vote). I voted for Parker because I am curious to see what a female mayor does. Rhynhart was a close second; but I couldn't see her handling a major crisis. edit: ...and by 'major crisis' I mean violent protests and/or looting for multiple days in a row which also affects distribution of basic goods and services.
You mean to say you think someone from city council will exhibit effective leadership???
[In her case, yes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzZZAhXTnIs) granted, there is comment below the video which argues against her abilities; but I like her overall tone and body language.
If I drop my ballot into a USPS mailbox will it get there in time to be counted? I’m too miserably sick to make the effort to go to one of the special voting mailboxes.
from EXPERIENCE.... you drop it in 2 weeks before the election, expect for it to be received 6 weeks AFTER the election. so you may as well have thrown it out.
[удалено]
Unless you have some hard evidence backing this up, I am going to say this is untrue and remove it for the time being. Ballots must be received by 8pm, and I would not count on the postal service to do that by today
Do whatever you want. That's been our policy for the past several elections ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
My guy, while I do honestly believe you, I hope you realize some proof of claim is necessary as anyone can pretend to be anything on the internet. Sincerely, His Royal Highness King Charles III `edit: bro blocked me for this comment.`

Not doubting you, but I can't find any information from the City or USPS stating that. edit: * The city says [get it in by 8pm](https://vote.phila.gov/news/2023/04/21/mail-ballots-office-hours-and-dropboxes-for-2023-primary/); no word on same day USPS service. So best bet to mail it the week Election Day.](https://thephiladelphiacitizen.org/voting-pennsylvania/) * WHYY says: [Completed mail ballots must be received by county boards of elections by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Postmarks do not count.](https://whyy.org/articles/pennsylvania-philadelphia-primary-election-2023-voter-guide-deadlines/) - no mention of same day service. * NBC says: [That means, it's probably too late to just throw a mail-in or absentee ballot into the mail and expect it to be where it needs to be in time.](https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/politics/election-day-voters-guide/3566366/) * The Inquirer says: [Again, if you’re cutting it close to the deadline, personally hand-delivering your mail-in ballot at the county election office](https://www.inquirer.com/philly-tips/philadelphia-2023-election-mail-ballot-application-deadline-drop-box.html). Finally, I don't see a [press release by the USPS](https://about.usps.com/newsroom/local-releases/pa/) stating what you've said. I'm 100% willing to be wrong on this, but you understand why I'm skeptical.
That is what I was told this morning while I was casing up mail
any trustworthy mechanic recommendations in south philly?
CK Auto Image 718 Washington Ave - i totally trust them!
Kong if you want it done cheap. Foreign Fix if (as the name states) your car is foreign.
is the service at Kong good?
Yeah, they're fast, reliable and affordable, but they will generally do the minimum unless requested otherwise. Obviously there's good and bad sides to that depending on what you're looking for. But I've never had a problem with the quality of the work outside of one random issue with my subaru that 3 other mechanics couldn't figure either until I took it to foreign fix.
thanks so much for the rec!
Don's at 7th/Passyunk has never done me wrong. That waiting room is a freaking delight to be in.
Seconding Don’s
thank you
How to host guests on SEPTA regional rails?
Departing from center city, it says you need to prepay a quicktrip ticket before the turnstiles instead of cash on board. https://www5.septa.org/travel/fares/regional-rail-zones/ I dont know if they have quicktrip machines in outlying stations as well, i'm assuming not.
Simplest way: pay with cash on board. Yes they accept cash!
Regional rail should also accept card now.
wow such a simple solution and couldn’t find that nugget of information from over an hour of pouring over their website. thank you!!
to add to what /u/DoGreat_DieGood said, they also take credit card on regional rail now too. Although paying for your fare on the train is very slightly more than buying tickets beforehand (as in like 25 cents more) https://www5.septa.org/travel/fares/ways-to-pay/
We took the train from the airport last fall and my ticket was about $4-4.50 with a Septa card. My friend didn’t have a Septa card and their ticket was $8.
You're welcome! Their website blows
Raided the Little Free Library on the way home from voting. Got a bunch of those Dover Thrift collections of short stories,
Be sure to replace them with books someone else may want
I think it probably still owes me for the amount of stuff I put in over the pandemic. Of course I have more to go in so there's no excuse for it to be empty.
In case anyone didn't see, Steve Keeley's election day fit is...something https://twitter.com/anna\_orso/status/1658448717689528321
"page doesn't exist"
He looks like Epic Lloyd in Trump makeup. https://youtu.be/Kbryz0mxuMY
He looks like a leprechaun who gets one day to be a human in an over 40 emo band.
That guy is so fascinating
he's 100% the murderer on any murder scene he shows up first to, which is basically all of them
Any quick rundown on the Sheriff's race? Tbh they sound like they all suck; I guess I'm just trying to find the least bad option
Untermyer or at least NOT Bilal!!!
Worst option is clear - voting Bilal is pretty much immoral
I can't remember which candidate party sent it but one of the election day texts had links to news articles about how shit and corrupt she is and was like you don't have to vote for me but she's a bad idea
Do not vote Erika Almiron for at large. She was an abusive boss and is a bad person.
fuck jobs
+1 feeling it big time this week.
majorly irritated at PPD - called to report a robbery and they never showed up lol
You have to go to the station to file a report. They won’t come to the house.
There was dude just firing a gun into the air drunkenly when I lived up in oak lane. The whole block called the PPD, they didn't show up until in the evening the next day like "I'm here to talk about the noise complaint calls you made yesterday". Useless
Adios Doc Rivers
Minimum change necessary. I don't think the ride stops here though.
I think Embiid forces a trade. If he's a Sixer past the in season trade deadline, I'll donate $100 to the non-fascist charity of your choice.
Wouldn't be surprised or disappointed (assuming we get good drafts/prospects). I'm not going to turn my back on him yet, but his post season performance record and honestly attitude are not impressive.
smell ya later, jabroni
I am right there with you in back pain and it fucking sucks.
Hopefully things get better for the both of us!
My friend who tweaked their back swears by the lady at this place https://therapivity.com/
Dana is amazing, I swear by her and recommend her to everyone.
I should go to something like this - thank you for the recommendation!
I’m on my 4th week of antibiotics for a very stupid accidental injury, and I cannot eat anything without feeling like I might immediately vomit and/or shit my pants. Hasn’t happened yet, but I truly thought today was gonna be the day!
visbiome google it and this advice ain't free, I expect to be compensated
buy probiotics! last time i was on antibiotics, it helped some
All you need is a nice yeast infection for the antibiotic trifecta!
have you considered smoking a little pot before you try eating?
If they both happen at the same time, then you win
Luckily the only time this has ever happened to me I was in austria in the smallest bathroom possible where it was possible for my head to reach the sink from the toilet. Shoutout to making this possible, Innsbruck.
10/10 review, do attend
It actually was also one of the top 4ish most beautiful places I've ever been in my life, so it definitely has at least two things going for it. Truly a wonderful place though, I'd recommend it to anyone.
I was all set to remember to write-in my district counsel person (whatever douchebag that is now gonna get Clarke's spot), but looking at my ballot, i confirmed that I'm no longer in the stupid 5th district Fishtown carve out, and i feel less bad about voting for Squilla.
Can I be in the carve-out? Sigh. TAKE US WITH YOU
Hah. You are mistaken: you are in the carve out. Seriously, look at the map, it is a little wedge that is part of district 5 in the riverwards, while the rest is in 1st district.
Hrm? That's not where I am, heh. I'm firmly in the middle of district 5 (sadly) not near any cut-outs or "insertions" of any kind, lol
I could've sworn I changed my voter registration to my new address after the 2020 election - I've even got my mail-im ballot for the last election here! - but the state doesn't agree so I've gotta go ten minutes down the street to vote instead of five.
If you have only voted by mail since changing you would have to show id and fill out the update form.
That happened to me, but I didn't realize it. They let me vote at my old polling place as long as I filled out a form to update to my new address while I was there.
Have to imagine with such a crowded ballot it's going to take a bit for them to tally votes. Any guesses when to expect results?
Was wondering the same...I don't recall from previous mayoral elections.
Alright so I already know who I’m gonna vote for Mayor… but what about the rest of the ballot? Feel like there’s never really any discussion on here regarding the undercard and I’m completely clueless
Erin Santamoor and Job Itzkowitz for council at large!
[Earlier that day](https://static.independent.co.uk/2021/03/25/21/Screen%20Shot%202021-03-25%20at%202.36.30%20PM.png?quality=75&width=640&auto=webp) I kid, he actually seems alright and I voted for him. Hard making a choice for councilpeople this year.
I was warning people about this early, especially congresspeople-at-large. Committee of 70 has good resources.
This is a good resource for the City Council Candidates [https://billypenn.com/2023/03/19/city-council-candidates-philadelphia-2023-list/](https://billypenn.com/2023/03/19/city-council-candidates-philadelphia-2023-list/) Do not vote Alex Hunt for Controller. Vote for Christy Brady (who is the acting controller)
I'm going to with what looks like the more sure bet on this one but it would be unbelievably entertaining to watch Fox and others have a fucking meltdown for months being like *"Philly elects a stripper and OF model to controller."* * *that has a masters degree in health science and a masters degree in public health
Today's Ska Tuesday selection: The Zodiacs, 1965 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSsdBF1uMgA
Applied for my passport back in March after multiple cancelled appointments. It finally shows as having been received late last week. Expedited service is now at 7-9 weeks and my flight is just about a month away. Totally not stressed at all.
I'm going to piggyback off your misfortune to make a PSA: ##Apply for your passport before you need it.
It can only be used for the following: - Entering the United States at land border crossings and sea ports-of-entry from: Canada Mexico Caribbean countries Bermuda - **The passport card cannot be used for international air travel.** - Real ID: Passport books and cards are alternatives to a state-issued ID.
+1 for the passport card. it's saved me hassles plenty of times already
May 20-21 for anyone else wondering. Any tips for a first timer? I never make it down there for this stuff, gonna try and sail on down this year.
I'll second that motion.
i have been practicing my greased pole skills every day in eager anticipation
If we could get a detailed description or, better yet, a video montage of these activities it would be greatly appreciated.
If you have voted at your current polling place before, you don't need your ID.
This was my first time voting at my current poll and was not asked for ID
Early is best for easy access to food and other vendors, late is best for watching the grease pole.
solid, thank you! See ya there
[took some pictures](https://imgur.com/a/2OcwbiG) yesterday while on a nice bike ride from Conshy to Manayunk and back. Been on my bike a lot recently, which has been awesome. Did 41 miles over the weekend plus 15 yesterday. Rest of the week might be too busy to ride though
I’m getting married in august and we don’t have time/bandwidth to plan our honeymoon (we want to go to Indonesia!) For the meantime we want to do a mini moon immediately after the wedding.
It's not like white-sand beachy caribbean but there's plenty of fun to be had, it's in the US, and isn't often exorbitantly expensive except during fantasy fest.
fun fact, there are no natural beaches in Key West.
St. Thomas; still the US, IMO nicer than PR, and more of a Caribbean feel
Puerto Rico! So easy to get to, all the benefits of still being in the US while being in a tropical Caribbean paradise!
Or you rent a car and drive around the island, use Airbnb, see different beaches and waterfalls.....just depends how adventurous you are
congrats and enjoy your wedding!
I got great advice from the career coach in my alumni office. If you DM me, I'm happy to share what I learned!
Resume styles go out of date? Honest question - I've only ever made a resume as a formality.
I voted today!
