So I hear we're being brigaded

As always report any and all anti-vaxers and misinformation spreaders. 0 tolerance for it and will result in a ban that is permanent. And depending on how things go..if y’all cant behave. This will become a code blue thread.
>First off, as a Jewish descendant of people that just barely survived, eat my whole ass.
I love the entire post, but this line is my favorite.
Mine too. It was ...unexpected.
I feel the same way. Also Jewish. If you are memeing or normalizing the Holocaust, you are a special kind of evil.
I had a literal chef's kiss moment at that line.
Likewise it was the best.
- another angry Jew
I'm going to copy pasta this whole post next time covid comes up, and I mean *the hole post.*
I'm not a Jewish descendent but I can't take this out!
Ooh now do the one about 'hospitals are paid to kill covid patients and that's why they won't do X and Y and Z flavor of the month treatment.'
Sadly your effort will be wasted because anything that doesn't agree with their preprogrammed narrative is 'fake news'.
Those guys are my favorite. "I need to take ivermectin because the vaccine is produced by big pharma and they are trying to keep us sick!" Meanwhile Merke, who stands to profit from their idiocy, says please don't use ivermec to treat covid. Yet they still refuse to engage their brains and think about their conflicting stance for even half a second.
I'm no fan of big pharma, I see the damage profit motives cause every day. But ultimately I am also consistent with understanding their want of profits. In that regard, killing off patients is just not very sustainable.
The demand for Ivermectin is so high you can find underground lab made pills on the black market.
I can do that!
> hospitals are paid to kill covid patients and that's why they won't do X and Y and Z flavor of the month treatment.
Even if we look at this from a purely economical standpoint, killing patients is bad for business. If the goal is to generate money, it would make more sense to keep your patients sick for a longer period of time and run up the bill. Patient deaths put a very final ending to the ability to bill patients...also, there are limits to the ways in which a healthcare institution can collect from an estate of a deceased individual.
> Well obviously they are keeping the patients sicker longer by not administering [insert random ineffective medication or vitamin supplement or rectal sunshine here]
All of the medications being talked about are unapproved and have shown limited to no effectiveness in the treatment of COVID. And while I know you're going to cite the very few studies that show Ivermectin works, I'm going to point out that those are in vitro and the dosage in order to have an antiviral effect are well beyond the dose where you start seeing toxic effects. The safe doses are consistently proven to do absolutely nothing.
What we do know is that there are absolutely effective treatments that range from vaccination (preventative), the use of monoclonal antibodies, convalescent plasma (to a point), and various cocktails of steroids, antibiotics (combat opportunistic infections), and antivirals.
All of these things act in ways to prevent hospitalization, shorten admissions, and keep people out of the ICU. We know this, because it's the reality on the ground. There's very little evidence, if any at all, that proves otherwise.
One of my nieces, the only person out of my closest 2 or 3 rings of family that I haven't convinced to get vaccinated, tell us that not only are patient deaths made up, nurses and doctors are having pizza orgies in the empty space where patients would be.
She's not right in the head.
> nurses and doctors are having pizza orgies in the empty space where patients would be.
Alright...who told the muggles about the pizza orgies???
A pizza orgy is how pineapples ended up on pizza. Make of that what you will.
Well...I wasn't a fan of orgies to begin with. Now I hate them.
>Well...I wasn't a fan of orgies to begin with. Now I ~~hate~~ LOVE them.
There you go OP, I fixed that typo for you.
Damn, gotta get me a job at one of these hospitals!...free pizza?? Count me in!
No one said it was free. Just that you gotta put it sauce side down somewhere on your body.
What, so all I get is free orgies? Pffft...pass.
never seen muggles used in this context before but I love it.
That’s what happens when Grey’s Anatomy has been on for what,18 years now.
When my husband died the hospital got paid by insurance and his ending bill was around 5,000$. I’m not filing probate so the debt won’t get paid because there is no estate to pay them from.
Reality is many people die everyday from Covid…and your husband is a number yet an important person to you , family and friends.
Every time I see a number…I feel in my heart that it’s more than a stat, it’s a family left with pain and sorrow ☹️
I am sorry for your loss 🙏🏼
I'm truly sorry for your loss. :(
Thank you. He passed away of a Covid related MI. He was in the hospital on 35 liters vapotherm. He had one MI early on in his hospitalization and they cathed him so quick there was no residual damage. The second one happens so fast and sent him into vfib. They got a pulse back and saw the stemi but lost the pulse again. He was only 42.
When I tell people his story and that he wasn’t vaccinated I get some of the most unbelievable responses. Never mind I was his caregiver 24/7. (I worked in the hospital he was in and we allow visitors). I was vaccinated.
I'm my partner's caregiver. I would be absolutely devastated.
One thing I already see happening in high vaccinated areas is people seeing outright deaths being equal between vaccinated and unvaccinated and saying "SEE IT DOESNT WORK"
...like... the vaccinated population is nearly 10x larger than the unvaccinated when that occurs.
Could this be added to the post? It’ll probably get lost otherwise, and is more good info.
Thanks for this post.
Sure, give a sec
People don’t want to be “tracked” but willingly use customer loyalty cards at the store. They don’t want “antibodies” unless approved by the governor of Florida. They are scared of dying by vaccine but “don’t want to live in fear.”
Understatement of the last 21 months
Has it actually been that long? Longest and somehow also shortest almost two years ever.
Oh hey! Look! It's almost 2022!
...fuck me...it's almost 2022...
Yeah!... I mean.... Wait it's almost WHAT?!?! 🤦🤬
Time is so hard to understand now.
We are about to start *year three* of the pandemic.
If only more people would get fucking vaccinated but instead we are running out of the Greek alphabet
In yet another scary election year, for the Great Satan.
The last two years have been the longest decade of my life
Almost all of these morons who don't want to be tracked are addicted to facebook.
Literally! They’re full on sharing their whole lives on there! Which is where HCA gets a lot of their info for nominee’s. Honestly the way these folk warp facts into their own “truth” is mind boggling.
Then trolls come to HCA and say: “how dare you post this family’s private tragedy?”
*Uh. They posted it all publicly on Facebook because they like attention.*
Most people type in “prayer warriors” on fb to get the content, then we get to read about their loved ones ass sores and bowel movements
Not just that. They are the ones who are sharing all the horrible details about how their loved ones are getting fucked up by Covid. On Facebook. In public.
There was one post on HCA where someone is talking about how an awardee has good bowel sounds. And isn't that just the best way to die - with everyone praying to Jesus that you can shit the potassium out successfully?
Someone one time posted “they don’t want to be educated they just want to be mad” and I have kept that with me ever since.
> People don’t want to be “tracked” but willingly use customer loyalty cards at the store.
They can't put down their cell phone for more than 17 seconds yet don't care that it tracks and records their every move. It also listens in the background to everything around it. Fire up Telemundo on the TV for a few minutes with the phone right next to it, then do some searches. You'll see.
Or willingly carry a device in their pocket/post on a social media site that tracks their every move
Yup, they’re dumb people. Plus they really seem to want a civil war…
This is one of the best pieces of content I’ve read in a long time. Thoroughly thought out. Appreciate what you do and keep it up! We think of all of you all the time.
Thank you! ^_^
Yeah imma need to come back and re read it to take it all in
Thank you for taking so much of your time and energy to debunk all of the baseless claims we see everywhere. If I were still on any other social media, I'd share this far and wide. You did an excellent job explaining it all in layperson terms.
I got pissed off that someone's post had to get deleted because some individuals from a certain subreddit decided to arrive and attack a new nurse for existing and being happy with themselves for graduating.
I'm sure, regardless of everything else, the people who need to hear this the most are going to be the least interested in having these discussions...but maybe someone on the sidelines will be convinced.
I agree! It's an outstanding contribution.
My mind wants to propose to your mind 💍
Would you two just mindfuck already and get it over with?
For the last 3 months or so I’ve been working 5 or 6 shifts a week in one of our cities 2 covid ICU’s. Yes that mass exodus was rough, but mandatory vaccination for nurses isn’t a new thing and if people want to decide that this particular thing is the hill they want to die on because it’s so goddamn fashionable in certain circles… cool. This is round 3 of covid for us and at this point we’ve all dealt with worse, so for those of us that are left, we’ll manage and keep getting better at what we do. This is a fantastic post and I wish I could print it off and read it to people as the “standard covid FAQ” sheet when I get asked this stuff. 14/10 would buy you a drink.
> 14/10 would buy you a drink
14/10 wish I even had the time, but I super appreciate the digital offer! Please feel free to use this as desired/needed.
> if people want to decide that this particular thing is the hill they want to die on
If it only impacted those people, I wouldn't care as much. Everyone has the right to make extremely bad medical decisions for themselves. But it's never them who pay the cost, it's almost always someone else. It's like how drunk drivers somehow always survive crashes, but they kill other people around them.
The difference is there's no crumpled car that you can shove in their face proving to them that their actions killed someone.
I became a nurse in 1979 (I'm now retired). We had to have the BCG(TB) jab back then, right at the start of our training. There was no discussion, no opting-out. No-one questioned it, because we all realised it was essential.
Mandatory vaccination for health care staff is certainly not a new thing.
Thank you clearly articulating everything that’s been running through my head every time I see another anti-vax post on my socials.
I'd also add that if you download the VAERS data file, the death count includes ALL causes of death including suicide and overdose deaths to name but a few...In order to know if the vaccines are causing any of the adverse events reported you would have to compare the VAERS incident rate of said adverse event to the general population rate. The crazy thing is the VAERS report total death rate is BELOW the general populations rate for the reporting period...because it prevents death from covid....
Yes, this is an excellent recap of the utter frustration us knowledgeable and fact seeking healthcare workers have been facing the past year and a half. Kuddos
Every time I log onto social media, especially on my town's page, I regret it
Good on you for fighting the good cause
I’m lucky I’m from Austin and have mostly sane friends
Yes. Thank you. I'll be making a copy of the text and keeping it for ready-reference.
When I get into these arguments, the convoluted and irrational nature of the anti-vaccination "though process" drives me to distraction. I suddenly become tongue- tied and inarticulate. Kind of like suddenly becoming Jerry Lewis.
As a pharmacist, I vote for you to teach basic vaccine immunology to all incoming nursing students. Well said!
Honestly, I would love to. I also wish I had the time, so I do what I can from the avenue of the internet.
I’ve been noticing a wave of these shitbirds trying to flood here too, check the post history if you have any doubt. They’re not subtle.
"The vaccines were created too fast" makes me remember when they first started pulling refrigeration trucks into NYC.
The SARS vaccine was actually begun in 2003 when it was the Swine Flu and it was very good at killing people, but really terrible at spreading. Once it was able to be controlled fairly well, the funding went out of research and the vaccine trials ended.
I’ve tried to explain this to people a lot.
Science was there. Money was not. Add infinite money and resources, and boom. Good things happen.
Yup. I work in research. What you do lives or dies depending on funding. If there's no more interest in something, the funding dies. No matter how good the research is, no one will invest in it.
Same way over here in physics too. RIP the Superconducting Super Collider
The swine flu (2009) was caused by a strain of influenza A (H1N1/09). Spread well, killed quite a few people, but neither the R0 nor the CFR was as high (CFR .02-.04% per Wikipedia). We had a vaccine for it pretty quickly, made the same way the regular flu vaccine was - egg cultures.
SARS, MERS, SARS-CoV-2, and some cold viruses are coronaviruses.
I think the first mRNA therapy trials started in 2001, and the first mRNA vaccine trials for infectious diseases started in 2009.
Thank you for the official breakdown! I'm watching my toddlers
SARS is not swine flu. SARS is caused by a coronavirus. Swine flu is causes by the H1N1 influenza virus, which is a orthomyxovirus.
There's enough "Covid is just the flu" misinformation going around.
Edit: just saw u/TheSultan1 comment, didn't mean to pile on.
The only skepticism I ever had about the vaccines was when certain politicians announced they were being produced under a program called "Operation Warp Speed." That did not instill confidence in this scientist/engineer's mind. At that point I was committed to be maybe in the 2nd or 3rd quadrant who received it because it sounded like some game to rush it past appropriate testing. As time went on and the body count grew and more sobered information came out about the development and testing, I was one of the first in line. Warp Speed. FFS. Anyway, my hat's off to all nurses and others fighting this craziness.
OK... that's going on the save list
\*Imagine if 2% of the US population (340ish million) were to die off\*
Yup. But again "it's only 2%" right? It's 98% survivable!
And we are 10% of the way there, what with over 710,000 deaths from covid the last time I saw a number.
I learned a new thing (the NSDAP history). Thank you.
Glad I could be helpful
>> More vaccinated people are being hospitalized than unvaccinated people.
Even if this were true, it’s a fallacious point anyway. As we approach 100% vaccinations there will come a point where more hospitalizations are vaccinated patients just because they will outnumber unvaccinated people in the general population by so much.
This is true. There's a whole lot of fallacious arguments by which they spin a mightily confusing web.
Currently in a heated debate with someone on Facebook comparing the vaccine to the literal holocaust. You know, the one where my religious and ethnic group was targeted and 6 million slaughtered? The one that my family members had to flee their home in Lithuania, resettle in the United States with nothing, and pretend that they weren’t Jewish in fear their U.S. neighbors would turn them in? The gas chambers, experimentation, ghettos, starvation, i could go on…Yeah that holocaust. It makes my blood boil. Don’t want the vaccine? I literally don’t give a fuck anymore. Y’all wanna fuck around and find out that’s fine. But it takes a disgusting kind of human to compare a minor inconvenience to human genocide that happened less than 100 years ago.
This. Exactly this. I read on another feed a comment that really summed it up. These Holocaust comparisons are because these people have never been inconvenienced in their lives. Such privilege they have that the mere mention that they might have to do something small and safe (wear a mask and/or get vaccinated) for the greater good makes them feel like they are being forced from their homes at gun point, forced into a concentration camp, and gassed to their deaths. It makes my blood boil.
While I prefer to lurk, I have to say this is fantastic. I only wish you'd expanded more on what we're seeing with long COVID and recovery regarding COVID. Far too many still don't understand mortality is only half a disease, and what exactly morbidity involves.
But otherwise, again, fantastic write-up!
> I only wish you'd expanded more on what we're seeing with long COVID and recovery regarding COVID.
The horrible part is that it's such an individualized disease and the effects of long COVID are a crapshoot. But here are some articles on it:
[Recover COVID dot org](https://recovercovid.org/)
[April report from Johns Hopkins Medicine](https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/covid-long-haulers-long-term-effects-of-covid19)
Anecdotally I can say , I had my first patient last night that had recovered from an extremely mild bout of COVID in 2020 and now has heart issues. It's incredibly sad to see someone in their thirties, with no previous health issues, staring down a lifetime of complications.
" ... eat my whole ass"
OMG. I love you, and my goodness. Here. You take this hedgehug 🦔 🤗, and you go to sleep tonight knowing that you've touched the lives of thousands of people here today.
You rock. Thank you for being you.
Omfg...hedgehug. I love it
The other day, one of my security coworkers was complaining about our mandatory vaccinations. He told me that he didn't want to get the vaccine because "you can still get COVID with it."
I looked at his ballistic vest and said "take off your vest."
He was momentarily confused. "Why?"
"If a guy came in here and lit you up with a .223, you might as well be wearing paper. So why do you wear your vest?"
Finally understanding me, he said "that's different."
I said "Bullshit 'it's different.' We're discussing life-safety. Same thing. Your vest stops nine-mil but doesn't stop an AR. But you'll wear your vest anyway because you're worried about the nine-mil, and it's better than wearing nothing. So get your vacc."
Then he dropped a fake, unfalsifiable anecdote where at his last job working for a small fry government agency he overheard a conversation from the governor's aide's assistant's ball washer or something, saying the virus wasn't as bad as they wanted people to think it was. Anything to justify his own delusions. Can't convince stupid, I guess.
Nope. Some people are beyond convincing. Right wing media and Facebook have rotted their brains away.
> Can't convince stupid, I guess
Unfortunately not. I recommend just dropping your facts and then moving on. Otherwise you get trapped in those trash conversations
I will save this, thank you OP!
Well done! I would like to add that in no way does this vaccine violate the Nuremberg Code as some like to argue. I don't want to re-write the 10 points but you can read it here: http://www.cirp.org/library/ethics/nuremberg/
> no way does this vaccine violate the Nuremberg Code
This is one of those "I'm in independent thinker" things where they're echoing something someone else told them while having absolutely no fucking clue what they're talking about.
Agreed better Nuremberg, "HIPPA[sic]" and the alleged ADA violations regarding masks back pre-vaccine, the attempts to seems "smart and informed" are just sad. Even a cursory glance of these documents that they tout would show they don't have a single clue as to what they are referring to. It's an odd form of trying to bully their way around an argument. Anyway, keep up the good fight!
I can instantly tell how much a person knows about HIPAA and privacy laws when they talk about the hippapotamus.
> the alleged ADA violations
I had to write a long thing on my other social media account last year regarding that where people were claiming that ADA disability exemptions meant they could just do whatever they wanted without consequence and nobody could say boo about it...which is not how the ADA works.
Thank you, kind /u/HIPPAbot
I’d argue that for many of them, the entire Holocaust fits in that category.
It's such a really raw topic for me and it pisses me off to no end when people decide to bring it up simply to score cheap political points. Like cool, you're wearing a yellow star...I'm glad you get to take that off whenever you want and not have to worry about any punishments related to the wearing of the star. Others in history were not as fortunate.
This is the one I draw the line on…
All through the last election, I ignored the nonsense my friends and family posted.
All through the election before that, I ignored the stupidity…
Since the start of the pandemic, I have repeatedly ignored everyone’s stupidity…
But when I saw people posting this comparison, I lost it. I ALWAYS call them out on their posts, and then delete the people from my life. I tolerated so much over the last 5 or so years, but people attempting to compare a life saving vaccine to Holocaust victims just puts me over the edge.
It's so upsetting because it softens the cruelty of the Nazis. Vaccines were smuggled into ghettos as part of the resistance against the Nazis as Jews and other "non-Germans" were cut off from German health programs. People fought and literally died attempting to be vaccinated and vaccinate other people.
And I know I'm going to catch some comment that's like "show proof of," listen...what do you think happened to people that were caught smuggling contraband into restricted areas? Especially medical contraband?
*Same*. A *nurse* I knew posted the comparison. I lost my shit on her and then promptly unfriended her and, honest to God, will never talk to her again because fuck that noise. Our disconnection from the horrors of history is going to ruin us.
Well put. But unfortunately, these braindead homunculi aren’t going to read a word of this.
This is likely true. But it felt good for a moment. Also, if it helps others fight back against mount bullshit, then it was worth it.
This post definately gives me some new questions to ask the idio... ahh... moron... sigh. Ok. Muggles, from different angles. So thank you.
Good luck with those questions. I can't imagine that you'll get straight answers
My sister in law, who is a lawyer married to an antivaxxer, was telling me the other day that it was discrimination when a business kicked her husband out for not being vaccinated. *That* was a fun conversation. 🙄🙄
> My sister in law, who is a lawyer married to an antivaxxer, was telling me the other day that it was discrimination when a business kicked her husband out for not being vaccinated.
Tell her to go back to wherever she graduated from and demand a refund. She got scammed.
I work with vascular surgery patients and I laugh every time someone mentions the mortality rate, and I just want to say do you know how many COVID patients that got blood clots and had to have a leg chopped off? They're not counted in that mortality rate.
Re: blood clots.
The number of times I've had to have the discussion about relative risk for the J&J vaccine versus things like smoking, birth control, and smoking while on birth control.
How about adding in the relative risk for extended air travel. Genetic clotting disorders aren't even a contraindication for getting the vaccine.
The best one is when people find a old coronavirus vaccine vile from like 15 years ago and say "tHe gOvErnMenT kNeW aBouT tHis aLl aLoNg" while being totally oblivious to the fact coronavirus is a general term for several viruses.
People can identify that they drive different models created by the same manufacturer...but can't figure out that there are differing viruses that belong to the same family. Maybe we should talk about viruses like we do about cars.
> If you carry your cell phone on you 24/7, then they don't need covert nanotechnology to achieve this.
Also, nothing like that nanotechnology exists. A computer chip that could fit into a hypodermic needle might be able to calculate the sum of two prime numbers (if you could figure out a way to power it) but it's not going to have a GPS locator or translator. This is real life not Star Trek.
>because they allowed themselves to lose their jobs because of political
beliefs...which literally fucked over their coworkers and patients in a
time of crisis staffing levels. (But really, we've always been at crisis
staffing levels, amirite?)
Abandoning your community and people who need your help, as well as giving up your career, over some stupid political fight to own the libtards
Great and informative post. Thanks so much! Also, I hope those that compare vaccines to the Holocaust get a full helping of ass. Fuck them. Keep up the fantastic work!
Edited: For repetitious word choice.
Corticosteroids are way closer to "gene therapy" than mRNA vaccines but no one complains about them 🙄
Oh I'm sure they'd chop that shit up and do a line of dexamethasone off the dashboard of their lifted pick up trucks
"...eat my whole ass."
I LOVE YOU
"Eat my whole ass"
This is a whole mood right now
Can you please speak on the ‘Look at Israeli hospitals’ bullshit. This is the argument I hear most often. TIA!
Edit: My apologies for not thanking you for this post! Thank you, a million times!
“Look at the data coming out of Israel”
*but that’s always the end of the comment*
> Can you please speak on the ‘Look at Israeli hospitals’ bullshit.
Israel is a complex case because they had an amazing push for vaccination in the beginning, then it just kind of fizzled out and they removed their restrictions too soon. Following that, delta variant arrives.
Short bullet point answers?
* They relaxed their anti-pandemic measures too soon
* Their vaccination campaign ended too soon
* A sizeable portion of the population remained unvaccinated
* The delta variant arrived which impacted vaccine efficacy rates
* Older populations had received vaccines earlier, so they had waning efficacy
People want to simplify the realities on the ground in Israel. Having friends and peers in the region, they'll all say that it's not simple, regardless of what antivaxxers try to spin.
So, they basically did the same thing many states (like mine) keep doing- there's a few week drop and suddenly our long national nightmare is over, happy days are here again....
Beautifully written. I've spent so much time the last few years combating anti-vax misinformation and outright nonsense on Facebook, often finding myself facing off against fellow nurses who should *absolutely* know better, that I started to feel like I was a lone voice screaming into the void. But this sub and posters like you have restored my faith in the profession, so thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
> I've spent so much time the last few years combating anti-vax misinformation and outright nonsense on Facebook
This is that combination of mount bullshit and the firehose of falsity. It takes absolutely no effort to create bullshit on a massive scale. It takes exponentially more energy to disprove it with almost no reward because people just shrug you off like you're an uninformed and uninterested party in the discussion.
> often finding myself facing off against fellow nurses who should absolutely know better
Because they're not coming from the position of a nurse, they're acting with political motivations and social pressures due to political motivations. While I dislike appropriating terms from Black communities, I can't think of a single phrase which better describes these nurses other than "pick me" nurses.
Also, it's that thing I mentioned in the beginning about how hordes of people were mocking us for almost a year and then suddenly they want to call specific nurses heroes. We weren't heroes back then, don't bother calling us that now in an effort to use us as political pawns.
It just really boils my piss when they use their status to lend authority and credibility to the rubbish they're spouting. I'm so heartily sick of hearing people say that the opinions and 'advice' of anti-vax nurses have factored in their decision not to be vaccinated - it's the height of professional irresponsibility and it's high time they were weeded out of the profession. It was bad enough that they've contributed to a resurgence of childhood disease and helped chip away at established herd immunity against things like measles, but now they're actively hindering control of and recovery from a global pandemic. It's high time we stopped tolerating their behaviour because it reflects poorly upon the profession as a whole, especially when they imply that we're all to be distrusted as part of some sort of global conspiracy to harm the very people we're desperately trying to help and protect.
Thank you for all you do.
My father and mother in law were vaccinated early this year, they are both dead now. Vaccine related? Who knows?
My Dad was 89 years old, bed bound with severe dementia and they claimed died of pneumonia. He was vaccinated five months before he died.
My mother in law was 90 suffered from osteoporosis and could barely walk. They say she fell and broke her hip and her optic bone and suffered bleeding in her brain. She was vaccinated eight months before she died.
We all know what really killed these people. Just think about it
I had to read this to myself several times before I realized you were fucking with me. Kudos
Your post above is perfect, thank you.
It's another absurdity that every post vaccination death is caused by the vaccine, my family's situation demonstrates that
Hey I’m sorry for your losses. What a shit year
Thank you for your kind wishes.
Particularly for my father, his death was a blessing for me (and him). His last few years were the worst nightmare he could have imagined when he was lucid. Siblings thought I was uncaring when I was an aggressive about a natural death over the years. That was hard because I had no influence or control over decisions so they just continued his suffering
MIL was different. She mentally well until the end so she didn't want to leave. It's difficult when a person isn't realistic about mortality so her quick demise was the best imaginable. Maybe my thinking is cold, but life ends.
Believe it or not each of these people have surviving spouses who are their same age or older.
I wish someone could promise me I won't get that old
Here's a claim that always comes up: *The vaccinated can spread covid just as much as the unvaccinated can!!1!* There's always some Herman Cain Award winner busily blaming asymptomatic vaccinated people for infecting them with covid via the vaccine's "spike proteins".
Spike Protein aside (that's so gonna be my next dog's name), for me as a layperson it seems like obvious basic logic that:
1) if vaccinated people have something like 11X (or whatever it is) less chance of getting covid in the first place, they also have a 11x less chance of spreading it to others
2) asymptomatic infections represent a lighter viral load, which also translates to lesser transmission.
Are those valid assumptions?
This claim of wildly-infectious vaccinated people might be based off a garbling of that one study of the viral load in the noses of vaccinated/unvaccinated folks that found similar if not higher loads in the vaccinated patients. As I understand it, what gets elided in trying to make them equivalent is that it takes a lot more initial viral load for the vaccinated to succumb to the infection in the first place, and the breakthrough infections represent a vastly smaller percentage of their respective cohort.
holy shit can i share this, its literally everything i have thought and unable to write out ...leave your username out of coarse.
By the time I realized that I nursing would have been a good career choice for me, I was already enrolled in my university, which didn’t allow transfers into its impacted nursing program. Rather than find a way around that roadblock, I moved forward with my life, eventually becoming a substance use disorder counselor. Regardless, I have always felt an affinity for nursing and a deep respect for those of you who are in the field.
All along, I’ve tried to educate myself the best I could regarding science & medicine - Covid has definitely given ample opportunity toward that end. Among other medical-related subs, r/Nursing has been a fantastic resource.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this post; it is a fantastic summary of the answers to the ridiculous misinformation that has stood in the way of a solution and has directly led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and ruined families. None of us have been untouched.
Huge gratitude to the actual nurses in this sub who allow us lurkers to witness and learn from your experience. Sending you all big Love.
I'm glad you feel that nursing experience and stories provide an opportunity for you. Where I work has substance use disorder counselors and as a family member of someone celebrating their 5th year sober, thank you for the work you do.
OP? You’re awesome. I appreciate you taking the time to write out this detailed rebuttal to everything we’ve all heard.
From pharmacy tech, to RN, to MD, we’re all doing what we can. Some of us are working ourselves to the bone and those people are T I R E D of it. For the love of your fellow human, stop being a plague rat. You’re giving actual rats a bad name.
> Some of us are working ourselves to the bone and those people are T I R E D of it
Yeah. I ended up making myself a promise that I wasn't going to invest any hope into doing things until 2022. While I haven't been disappointed for the last 21 months, I'm definitely burned out and annoyed that I'm likely going to be avoiding certain activities until beyond 2022...which...what the fuck, guys?
What really sucks is that nurses are working at an unsustainable pace, and all of the best nursing staff that have worked so hard are about to drop like flies.
Hang in there, y’all, as long as you can. You’re doing the good work and you’re not doing it unseen.
This deserves to be an entirely separate discussion on its own. Whenever the pandemic comes to an end, the country is going to be completely fucked as healthcare workers leave the industry...or at the very least take a very long and well-deserved vacation.
Rectal sunshine is my new favorite descriptor or perhaps a verb? The entire post made my day, but this part in particular. Just going to go to work tomorrow and spread some rectal sunshine
There was a point last year where people were advocating administering everything from bleach to sunlight.
“First off, as a Jewish descendant of people that just barely survived, eat my whole ass.” Thank you so much for that.
The best part of my day is that people have been commenting about this one sentence for the last 24 hours.
That’s because it’s beautiful.
Thank you for this concise write up!
I’d also like to add to the “it’s my freedom it’s my choice” part that your freedom does not trump the health and rights of others. The health of the community>individual freedom.
I love it when people say they don't want to be tracked while posting every minute of every day on Facebook and Instagram, which track everything you post online for advertising purposes.
"I don't always want to be tracked, but when I don't I'm posting about it on Facebook while including my location in the status update."
- The most unvaccinated man in the world
Slow fucking clap
Does that come with a slow administration of ceftriaxone?
z pack only.
I appreciate all this, but the people we need to read this aren’t.
Word. And thank you.
Adjective. And any time!
Thank you for this. You said it so well.
You're most welcome.
This is honestly amazing
You just took the time to summarize everything I've been having to moderate for the past year. So awesome. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this out.
I've had these discussions so many times that the responses are reflexive at this point. I'm sure someone will think up something new and I'll be stuck spending hours of my life researching it in an effort to address it.
If I can prevent people from having to do that, I feel like it's a win.
I've been holding onto this "free" gold for a while.
I think you've earned it.
Wonderful post and thank you. I frequently think about how the x-vaxxers comment on the vaccines killing people, roll-out speed, complications etc., but I never feel that they are concerned about the millions, like us, who are vaccinated. It is never in their rhetoric. Even with the prayer warriors, there is no call for prayers to protect the vaccinated sheeple bc we were "misguided". Like are they preparing for a future rapture-esque demise of the human population? It is difficult to extend the "for the good of the people" concept regarding vaccines when they really aren't all that concerned about anyone else.
They definitely don't care about what's good for other people, but they *do* understand consequences...and they hate the shit out of them.
This is great but can you add sources to the points? I like being able to have something I can shove in someone’s face when I’m told some nonsense
I can start trying to work on that at some point in the day.
You had me at "eat my whole ass"
This is beautifully put together and articulated. I learned some new things from it, and was reminded of how much I loved biology when you went through how mRNA vaccines work. Thank you for making this post,, it's wonderful!
> reminded of how much I loved biology
I have a profound love of biology. It was my first degree pathway years ago. That said, I'm glad that I don't have to have the Kreb's Cycle or Central Dogma memorized anymore.
Mine too! BS in Biological Sciences and proud of it. I think the Krebs cycle was probably the easy part. Organic Chemistry was the worst.
EDIT: And you do have the central dogma down, you were talking about reverse transcripts and integrase!
> Organic Chemistry...

You did a great thing with this post. Your commitment to your profession is even greater. Both are appreciated. I salute you, friend.
Keep your head up and try to stay focused on the conclusion to this whole mess.
"SPARTANS, WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION!?"
"Posting educational rants on Reddit!"
As good as this post is, it doesn't even matter because the anti-vaxx movement is based on Trump rhetoric---massive gaslighting and misinformation. Facts really don't matter to them. Just what their politician/tik tok personality wants them to believe.
A+++++++ debunking right here
If you want something to help people visualize risk, try this: “Let’s assume you’ve got one of those strong immune systems we keep hearing about. Let’s assume that instead of 2% your chances of dying from Covid is 1/2%. You know what that is? That means you get to roll 3 dice, and if they come up 1-1-1 you win a slow and horrible death. Here’s three dice. Wanna roll them? Or do you wanna get vaccinated and get to roll 6 dice instead?”
TY for your passionate defense of reason and civility. And the eat my whole ass line was perfect.
Thank you so so much. All the pushback I am getting locally had really put my big girl panties in a bunch. I needed to read this today and affirm I am not in fact a fascist murderous sheep. Or there are still people in the world who aren’t ass clowns.
I am already married… but I think I want to marry you.
This is so beautifully succinct and hilarious at the same time.
Thank you for all of this.
You are an angel.
Saving this. Excellent effort post and highly informative!
Beautifully said. Thank you!
Best post on the topic I have ever read. Succinct, persuasive, but true and based in fact and reality. Thank you, I have copied this and will use your well formed thoughts in the future.
Oh yeah Italy was a crap show. My daughter was studying abroad there when shit went crazy there. Only to come home with it and got us all sick. This was before the “lockdown”. We didn’t leave our house for 5 weeks.
This is amazing. Thank you.
Hi, yes, I think I love you 😍
AWesome post - can I use the content, with due attribution, for another sub?
While I don’t disagree with your argument about the central dogma and mRNA vaccines not being gene therapy, I would also like to point out that retroviruses are indeed a thing.
Otherwise...yeah, central dogma of biology... DNA>mRNA>...proteins eventually.
