Looks like a wasp & a preying mantis mated....
What the hell is this
A really cool insect.
I was making a joke with the name.
I found one of these a few years ago in Conway. I looked them up, I believe theybare called a mantifly. Very cool bugs!
Yep, it’s definitely a Climaciella, likely Climaciella brunnea - brown mantisfly. Very weird looking bug.
Okay this is most likely what I saw. This one was almost 2 inches though, are they aggressive/deadly? I was watching my for 30 seconds and had to scram because he bolted towards me.
Totally harmless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NV3EK4YsP8
Good to know thanks!
I found one of these trapped in my upstairs bathroom in Concord!!! I was terrified. Google says they do not sting though!
A wasp and a praying mantis had a love child
Never seen one like this but when I was around 6 I got into my mothers car around dusk one summer and heard something hissing at me from the seat belt. Bright green praying mantis. Actually, always been my favorite insect. Maybe because of this encounter.
Was this the thing I saw few days ago? It was pure black and looked like a giant fucking hornet. It was just under 2 inches when I saw it 13 feet away. It was flying with other hornets too.
Sounds like a cicada killer wasp.
>It was pure black
Likely not a cicada killer tbh.
No way! I also live in Bow and found one of those 2 weeks ago. Small world.
How bad are the ticks this summer?
