Byrie_Swirving

Absurd finish

WestleyThe

The second there was a giant runway for him with only one defender it was a wrap… You gotta build that wall or he’s scoring. What a game 40/12/9 for the reigning FMVP

Yoshieisawsim

Yup, Giannis downhill, 1-1 and it's over

WestleyThe

I don’t think there’s anyone 1 on 1 who can stop that

Mdgt_Pope

Gobert's my best guess but even still I don't think I'd pick him over Giannis.

Cobruh

If he’s already in the post he’ll at least put up a decent contest. If he’s at the top of the key, no shot.

pakidude17

I love it so much. You're so used to seeing stars whose go-to move is a pullup jumper, so seeing a guy with a full head of steam driving to the hoop and being unstoppable is so refreshing.

EpicGooner

Oh, the legendary Van Gundy tactic WE NEED TO FORM A FUCKING WALL

wcooper97

[We just form a fucking waaaaall](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UssZX7XXIqo)

JohnnySixguns

To be fair, they forced him into a left-handed flip shot that shouldn't be possible for mere mortals.

TenaciousDeer

Yeah they really hung that one defender out to dry

WIN011

We’ve become so desensitized to him doing this it happens multiple times a game.

The_Sign_of_Zeta

I loved it but I also hated it. Glad we were on the good end, but LaMelo is amazing

i-miss-jordy-nelson

Usually we’re always losing this game to the Celtics

poupinel_balboa

You are amazing

chicogarciamarquez

best game ive seen this year

iSleepUpsideDown

Definitely up there

KeepenItReel

Wolves-sixers up there too

GGezpzMuppy

Yeah this kid is freaky on the court and in the sheets

no_YOURE_sexy

*ding*

AmbitiousPeach

A freak in the car too

OutsideTheServiceBox

Holy shit Gordon Hayward looking at that shot rim out like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fWyzwo1xg0

ThisIsDystopia

One of my the rare times it was worth watching the ad.

jay_sun93

March madness-esque

Savvy_m4a

Why wasn't Melo in the game for the last defensive possession? asking as someone who doesn't watch a bunch of hornets game.

ec2xs

He’s not good at team defense. Makes a lot of mistakes.

obsterwankenobster

Leave him in on the least threatening player?

PimpTheGandalf

Its better to put out your best defenders in such situation, they had no use for Lamelo there. And if bridges made the bucket no one would say anything

Godscock

He was fouled too.

mookz23

Yep. Any wing gets that call.

Athalos124

If Bridges scored that I wouldnt even be mad lmao

The_Monstees

I only would've been upset about it taking away from this glorious finish by Giannis. And props to Bud for drawing it up

walkski

What do you even do to stop that? As soon as I saw Giannis with a running start 1:1, I knew it was gg. Great play call.

DongTongs

Honestly felt like the easiest 2 points for Giannis all night

spookyghostface

PJ didn't even play bad D. He did everything he was supposed to.

born-ready

PJ is under appreciated man. Dude is asked to guard 7 footers game after game and then Giannis. Ouch

Gdavidson24

Yeah that’s the typical life of a NBA big man

born-ready

Well he’s a 6’9 power forward doing that since we haven’t had any actual worthwhile bigs for the past two seasons is what I’m trying to say

Squidsquirts

Ya the only big guy the Hornets have is Mason P who’s absolute garbage (per nba big standards) and I don’t remember seeing him the last 3 games the Hornets played. Weird

LikeCrum

Put Lowry in, unstoppable force meets immovable caboose

TriHardSlapper123

T H I C C A S S

yrogerg123

Imagine saying this 2 years ago? Giannis is at a totally different level now. He's just a freight train going to the basket at this point.

Steven81

2 years ago had the record @ at the rim scoring IIRC. This is nothing new, what's new is that people have stopped missing how absurdly good Giannis is at finding angles when laying it up. Obviously he is better than even then, but kid was always good. I mean he can't score from distance obviously; from 10 ft in, though, he was always a nightmare, can't recall the last guy who is using angles so well and so frequently from that close.

TenaciousDeer

What coach is like, I like my chances with Giannis running at us downhill 1 on 1 , better to not send help

SSNappa

He started it.

DrunkDeathClaw

It would have been 3 straight shots that would have ended any other game.

crumpledbrouhaha

Jeremy Lamb would've hit that shot

Aaronrigunay

It wasn't against the Raptors tho

keithwilliamcraig

Triggered

InOutUpDownLeftRight

If the Bucks lose to a half court heave you just got to tip your fedora and say “m’lady.”

beenhadballs

“m’melo”

sctthuynh

From the spot that shot was taken and with Hayward being on his team, it seems fitting that it rimmed out.

SSNappa

Im not upset he missed it. Hell of a game win or loss.

QuarantineSucksALot

You missed the whole point." *(sheepishly)* "Oh."

Vegetable_Clerk7328

Dude might just have a knack for half court shots. He took one earlier in the game at quarter's end and that was so close to going in as well.

LMkingly

I wouldn't be mad i'd be depressed.

OutsideTheServiceBox

I respect how Marques Johnson even sounded disappointed that it rimmed out.

Chuck0089

If you lose because of game winning half-court shot by Hornets then you are going to win the championship. Works for the raptors in 2019.

WestleyThe

So close.. that was wild

hebelehoo

Probably Eric Collins would die on the spot.

PimpTheGandalf

That's Jeremy Lamb territory, I thought he was gonna make that

s4lomena

He ain't no Dame Time

tpaynesvocalcords

Look how low on the backboard it hits, that was nuts

DogFogLogJog

Great play design. How do you even defend it? Play ball denial d on Giannis offball?

tpaynesvocalcords

That's the only thing I can think of, but it'll still be hard to stop a running Giannis from getting it

xMothGutx

Imagine being able to take 2 steps from the NBA 3 point line and do a layup.

spookyghostface

Yeah it's gotta be team defense. Either deny him the ball or just put everyone in front of him. Let anyone else take the shot.

drteeth12

Gotta build the wall, but that leaves somebody open. Tough call.

zrk23

help defense, deny the ball, don't spread out guarding the 3 at every corner and giving the most dangerous man in the league when running get a huge running lead 1v1 lol play was very simple, he was all the way out there from the start. hornets for some reason were more scared of shooters

Wallyworld77

They were afraid of the shooters because Khris was lighting their asses up all game and Grayson and Pat are both averaging over 40% from 3. You can't give those guys open easy baskets to win the game.

DougTheCommie

That ball didnt have English, it had Greek

barnabyjackson

Does foam count as backboard?

PoisonedQuill

This game was insane. Eastern conference playoffs are going to be crazy this year.

Gamesgtd

Yeah should be fun. Wish we could join in.

SlowBurnerAccnt

Be thankful that you won’t. Even the Magic got sick of the 1st Round Game 1 heroics followed by a swift Gentleman’s Sweep. Y’all got some promisin young pieces, tho.

PastryDish

What? I know first round exits suck but I would rather my team actually make them because that is still what you should be trying to do. Ask Kings fans.

ElGotEm

🥲 fuckin painful man

ivXtreme

The top 11 teams in the conference are at least .500. Can't remember the last time that happened in the east.

Actually-Yo-Momma

I had to check my eyes. 11 teams are .500 in the east right now and only 10 teams in the west are I’ve NEVER seen this lol

forsaken16

Great game. Giannis is a beast. 10-0 with Giannis,Khris and Jrue playing. Man I can’t wait until Brook and Donte come back. Side note: Holy shit I’ve seen poorly officiated games but this one takes the cake. Dunno who these refs are but they should not be allowed to see a NBA court again.

MKE-Soccer

I was at the game. In addition to the bad calls they weren't clarifying anything in the arena. People were losing their minds.

Devin_46290

I’ve never heard a “Refs you suck” chant as loud in my life lmao

Stumpynuts

I didn’t understand that either. The announcer must’ve not been in the loop either otherwise he would’ve been letting the crowd know. The communication and decision making were absolutely horrible by the officials.

yenks

Can't let everyone know how you're fixing the game

Nilbogin

Missed all the obvious stuff. Called ALL the ticky tacky nonsense

shitboots

Can we get a replay with the full OOB play?

Vegetable_Clerk7328

yea OP missed an amazing play call and the replay

b47

https://streamable.com/kggeom

Vegetable_Clerk7328

Game winner Giannis shee, definitely thought Khris was going to have the last shot

027eddy

the layup was so casual as well

PoEaDDict123

Just can't get used to the fact this guy gathers the ball [here](https://imgur.com/Z4aX8Oa) with a defender in front of him and lays it up man. I've seen him do it 500 times and it still looks weird af.

randylek

the last 2 minutes of this game is goated

yungchigz

The whole game was pretty crazy, one of the best of the season for sure

CuriousTurtle5

Last 8.6 seconds

junrino

Holy fuck that prayer from bridges nearly gave me a heart attack

The_Sign_of_Zeta

I was not a fan of how close that was

hrrsnmb

Connaughton was looking [like](https://i.imgur.com/sFveYy8.gif)

AlekRivard

Lmao Andy Dwyer is just Fat Connaughton

Los_Ingobernablez

I was though. Why cant we have that kinda break in the playoffs?

Milquetoes

Even closer than Evan Fourniers last night

ehddwjkl

Even closer than Joel Embiid's against the Suns last season

cancercureall

That shot was beautiful. For it to bounce out from the *other foul line* is fucking insane. I am so sad it didn't fall.

Izanagi___

Miles Bridges was about to be my 13th reason if that BS went in

Kechup17

would have had to trigger izanagi lmao

otherside9

Bro...😂

Short_Case230

If that shit had gone in it might have been one of the goat game endings

The_Monstees

as a Bucks fan, I would disagree

WIN011

Eh it’s a regular season game objectively it would’ve been a crazy finish to an already crazy game

guitmusic12

Saving this for the next dipshit who tries to tell me Giannis just dunks and has no touch

SchpartyOn

Giannis just dunks and has no touch!

guitmusic12

DO I HAVE THE CLIP FOR YOU!

TelltaleHead

Alright listen here you little shit

egg_mugg23

run dunk no skill

TenaciousDeer

Run dunk, eat hot chip and lie

DefactoAtheist

> has no touch Do people actually say this? Like I don't watch that much Bucks, but I followed their entire finals run from the Nets series onwards and it felt like I spent my entire time watching Giannis drive while saying to myself "no way he finishes that" followed by Giannis inevitably finishing that. Dude doesn't just have touch, he's got elite touch.

FuckingKilljoy

James Harden kinda sparked it and the haters took it from there. Some of the shit Giannis was getting thrown at him was just hilarious in how dumb and untrue it was. Just check that video by Rusty Buckets about the NBA media and Giannis. For some reason the nicest, most wholesome guy in the league got endless shit thrown at him because he didn't bring a team of role players and lucky draft picks and championship in his first few years

Successful_Priority

Now I see people admit he has touch but they downplay it due to his height and huge wingspan. I remember one person using Zion as a player with amazing touch around the paint yet somehow Giannis is lower?

yungchigz

He’s one of the best finishers of all time at the rim, the numbers speak for themselves. I think the argument to downplay him is that his athleticism gives him easier looks at the rim than anyone else and it’s not his touch that’s special but you’re right you only have to watch him a bit to realise that’s stupid

Murphy_York

Giannis with the game-winner! 8 in a row for the Bucks. Cousins looked really good despite getting off the plane yesterday and probably not even having an apt yet. Bucks heavy favorites in the East IMO

FuckingKilljoy

I should know better than to doubt this team by now, but I was worried there'd be a severe championship hangover. Looks like the downed the bottle of gatorade and popped some advil and got back to work

k1nGGGGG

Can someone post this from hornets announcers?

CarnOnTheCob

Scrolled for this

capripwnFBT

Eric Collins almost lost his mind on the Bridges shot, if it had gone in I think he would legitimately have died

theStav19

Insane ending. Electric!

legalalienttv

Man NBA TV blacked out right at the end of this game, sad I missed this live

NotAStatistic2

Black outs are so fucking stupid man

Seanctk10001

pause.

ScottieBarnesForMVP

Great play call giannis finishes that always

VirtuousFool

Holy shit what an ending

SSNappa

Gordon Hayward having PTSD flashbacks right now.

Ok_Bison8305

Came here to look for this comment

3s2ng

That's how you close a game. Giannis gets a lot of flak for being boring and has no skills coz all he does is to drive to the basket. He is taking advantage of the entire NBA. While everyone just shooting 3s, he is driving to the basket in every possession. He just bullies everyone and it's fun to watch.

JanVesely24

Dear lord my poor fragile heart

DarkKnightElles

Deer lord*

Stumpynuts

Giannis?

messejueller21

Need the full version of this play. He started up lined up behind half court and came running down hill to get to the bucket. Also the english he put on the shot was insane.

humandignitybloc

Wild finish. Can't wait to play the Hornets. Bucks..not so much.

closedtowedshoes

You do not want to play the Hornets trust me. I’m sure it was fun for a neutral, but goddam their offenses is frustrating.

I_Always_Grab_Tindy

Games against the Hornets have been so frustrating and unpredictable for us the past several years I feel like. Couple intense 1 possession games in 18-19', that stupid Paris game in 19-20', giving up an 18 to 4 run during the last 7 minutes of the 4th quarter to lose a game last year, and now this one.

PeachyCoke

Dec. 19 in the Valley

The_Sign_of_Zeta

That was a beautiful play design. Classic Giannis on that drive.

smraboin

Giannis “Closer” Antetokounmpo

Our-Gardian-Angel

I think I ran through the entire gauntlet of emotions in the last 10 seconds of this game.

s4lomena

Greek God...malaka

daddyfatsaxxx27

I hope all of Bridges end of shot clock heaves this year don’t hurt his MIP case. Great game from him.

[deleted]

Remember when people said Giannis wasn't a closer? lol

HDKKARAPAUL

ΗΧΟΙ ΕΛΑΦΙΟΥΥΥΥΥΥ!!!

hrrsnmb

please let these teams meet in the playoffs

Barea_Clamped_Lebron

why would you single coverage this man

alsott

Might be unpopular but the more I listen to her to more I like this new play by play lady for the Bucks. Idk I like announcers I can simultaneously listen to and also ignore if need be

jpotrz

She's been great. She's no Paschke, but those are huge shoes to fill.

theworldlyother

Massive clodhoppers

imus68

Bro does anyone have the hornets announcer version? I wanna hear the reaction from collins on that half court shot lol

VegitoFusion

With only 2 seconds left, I thought someone would put a press on the inbounder as opposed to jogging back down court. If that final shot went in, it seems like we’d be pointing this out

TheGamersGazebo

The surest 2 points in the NBA rn and you can not convince me otherwise.

hotgur1

Typical giannis, i mean you can’t really stop this dude from driving.

irun50

Swipe step. Not euro step.

rjcarr

I was just thinking about this today, how every layup with long strides is called a euro now. A euro was specifically about changing directions during the layup and not sure how it got twisted.

Marozia

I don't know much about how travelling works, but it looks like he took three steps without dribbling before shooting the ball - that's not travelling?

Vegetable_Clerk7328

The first step he was still in a gathering motion. The refs almost always give the benefit of the doubt with the zero-step to guys like Giannis and Harden, because they've mastered the move.

rjcarr

And because it's perfectly legal. It's *super* hard to tell, at game speed, if a gather was in the air or if a foot is down, so the NBA just said fuck it, a foot can be down during the gather. FIBA did the same thing and calls it "step zero". Now, the gather should be in motion, and moving toward the next step, and although this play was pretty clearly legal, Giannis and others get away with bad gathers sometimes.

FuckingKilljoy

One of those things that your rec league ref would call because they want to follow the letter of the law while NBA refs at least kinda respect the flow and entertainment value. If travels were called by the letter of the law the games would be ass and a lot of exciting players would become kinda lame

[deleted]

[удалено]

Marozia

Yeah, I tried to say I don't know understand how it's typically called, but I still got a few downvotes for it. I'm a Bucks fan and obviously don't want it to be called on Giannis on a game-winning play, but I really don't know what exactly the rule is.

jolis16

The rule is that you start counting steps AFTER the player has fully gathered the ball, meaning he has full control of it after grabbing it. Giannis was technically still gathering the ball in his first step, so it is counted as a 0 step. And then he just does a 1-2 for the layup.

[deleted]

it's basically as close as it can possibly be. if giannis gets his left foot down before he gets control of the ball, it's legal. i'm not even sure going frame by frame.

bobdolebobdole

I went frame by frame best of my ability, and it really looks like his foot is not down when he got control. I really don’t care about traveling unless players are clamoring for it. If Charlotte doesn’t care I don’t care.

[deleted]

i thought so too, but these screenshots changed my mind https://imgur.com/gv5p0hX looks like he doesn't bring his off-hand to the ball until basically the moment he plants, which is usually when control is considered established.

DCChilling610

I feel you. My mind always tells me it has to be a travel. But a gather step is allowed and Giannis has mastered this move.

ReceptorFatigue

[The NBA has video examples of what is and isn't legal.](https://videorulebook.nba.com/archive/legal-play-gather-and-then-takes-2-steps-3/) It helped me a lot to actually see examples of what is and isn't allowed.

nowhathappenedwas

It's very close. Can't tell from this angle whether he gathers just before the third step or just after he gets his foot on the ground.

HighlyBaked0

The first step was the gather step

Obi_Wan_Benobi

I’ve given up on trying to understand the current rule for traveling in the NBA lol.

fredbogho

Hes just too good for the defenses. No chance.

[deleted]

Well the Hornets don't really know what that is

Pillownanners

Ball don’t lie huh

ThisIsDystopia

Everyone afraid to say it, Bud a good coach. Rests his players right, calls the right plays, no unnecessary risks. This the guy you want for your franchise players.

40WeightSoundsNice

Giannis too nice

IamLegend840

Every year this guys finishing gets nastier

Skippy_the_Alien

I have a co-worker who ranted on and on about how basketball is "so boring." smdh.

SamCarter_SGC

My grandpa is like that but his thing is "there is no defense in the NBA" because he's used to the Badgers scoring 60 points a game. Couldn't possibly be because the Badgers haven't had even one future pro on their roster in 8 years but ehhhhh

00383894

That commentator is awful

Letsgodubs

Did they have some kid guest commentating this game?

BobbyDiamond21

Craziest ending!!!!

ashwinr136

Someone gotta help Bridges

Suavesky

That was Washington. And he did the best he could.

toasted_muffin

I got some serious teal balls from that

[deleted]

[удалено]

Steven81

Giannis is killing them in adv stats. It's only close because of the worse record. For as long as the Bucks are so far back from Nets/Warriors Gianni's has no chance in fact. Seeding/wins are exceptionally important when it comes to MVP selection.

duplicatesnowflake

Gordon Hayward on full tilt watching this.

rhetoricl

Sorry that's not a euro step. Both his steps were to the left of the defender. Looks more like a reverse layup.

[deleted]

If you don’t like you don’t like Hornets basketball

2close2trouble

Gordon Hayward having flashbacks on that shot.

dpatou23

For the first time in a long time, I get the feeling that Charlotte is getting there. Like they're a good trade away from becoming a legitimate contender and competing with the likes of Milwaukee and Brooklyn. I'd like to see them sign multi year deals to LaMelo and Miles Bridges. For sure keep Hayward who provides valuable experience for the younglings. Then maybe in a year or two he can come off the bench and support the team from there. Morph into Charlotte's Igoudola. From there everyone's available, who you keep until the opportunity arises to make a splash. I'd like to see them try to trade for someone like KAT or more viable trades like Jarrett Allen, Sabonis or Miles Turner. Definitely not Porzingis though.

Wallyworld77

Bud drew up that final play beautifully. Great spacing left Giannis in ISO one on one with a running start. The percentages don't get much better than Giannis in the paint. If they doubled up on Giannis that's going to leave either Grayson, Pat or Middleton wide open for certain death. Charlotte was in no win situation our lineup is sick to closeout games. Jrue playing QB has easy reads if Giannis is one on one he gets the ball if they double up somebody pass them the open shot for the win.
