Today I learned that alligator snapping turtles eat deer carcasses like they are watermelons! The More You Know!

JohnChimpo7

Pretty sure that’s a regular snapping turtle

Kuritos

Quality does make it hard to identify, but I believe you are correct.

ThriceG

Looks like a regular snapper to me.

NickTrainwrekk

Turtles are scavengers. They'll eat anything that looks, smells or tastes like food as long as they can manage to get it in their mouth. We just don't think of them as omnivores because unless something is dead a turtle is not catching it...

Mally-Mal99

You’d be surprised at what titles can catch.

KatyTeXaS2020

Don't they catch fish and eat them?

AJ_Crowley_29

Snapping turtles are metal as fuck. They’ll eat anything, fish, frogs, snakes, smaller turtles, ducks, geese, fingers, toes, and apparently deer too.

miasabine

Cysts, too. David Sedaris has a story about feeding a cyst he had to some snapping turtles. He specifically kept it, after it was removed, for some snapping turtles he knew.

NavyBlueLobster

Wtf delete this

miasabine

Lol

GaunterPatrick

>Cysts thank you very much for ruining my breakfast

mindreadings

Baby alligators too

dirtyslogans

I guess It's a good thing Splinter was a rat

BRAINWURMZ

I thought they just ate pizza?

Ssoofer

Pizza wasn't enough to feed them

Rutthed

Oh deer...

lost_in_life_34

Nature is vicious No one wants to help you, just eat you if you get hurt

EinsteinsLeftNut

I wish we had footage of that spectacular hunt. Must be some turtle to take that down.

KatyTeXaS2020

I don't think the turtle took it down...

Kind_Cardiologist833

That deer has been seriously wounded.

BlueKing7642

No just a scratch

someguyfromsk

Just a flesh wound

AtheistBibleScholar

It's not like the deer is using those innards anymore.

ratakoolta

That's some weird plot twist. Fastest turtle ever!

karma_ubuntu

Metal turtle

redditAPsucks

Cool to a pic of the feeding, any chance you got a vid of the hunt?

KatyTeXaS2020

The turtle didn't hunt it..

HoodedOccam

Deer probably had blue tongue disease.

Xenolithic1

That's one big chömp.

Whitedudebrohug

“And I’ll do it again”

Khoef

Me: ever seen a turtle eat a deer? Wife: that’s not even possible!

Vanasazi

Turtles are metal.

n0th1ngspecial

Great now I got to worry about fukin flesh devouring turtles

FallenXxRaven

Fuckers are fast, too. Not just in water, on land too. I don't know who decided that turtles were slow animals but the ones I've seen certainly are not lol. It's nothing you couldn't outrun, but if you're just expecting it to move like a 100 year old tortoise it will catch you off guard for sure

someguyfromsk

There is a chase and kill I want to hear David Attenborough narrate

AWzdShouldKnowBetta

That's pretty metal.

AmettOmega

In the wise words of Zoidburg "A feast is a feast!"

Ssoofer

Bro probably came out of the cave while the deer was injured from something and took the kill

JoshyLikey

Don't fk with snapping turtles, don't even get near one.

TheSyrupDrinker

That's a big fucking bite

NervousAndPantless

How the hell did it out run a deer? Amazing.

Jon6199000

You know evolution is going on when turtles are eating deer... I’ve seen something’s, but this is a first.

kilersocke

"It's free real estate" Turtle probably.

GodDamnRight-

CALL ME SLOW AGAIN, CALL ME SLOW AGAIN MORHER FUCKERS. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS. *THIS*

[deleted]

That dolphin isn’t working

Fashajualia

I still can't forget the video of the snapping turtle in the tank and some guy is dropping in live rats . Basically chomps off the rat in one bite from his arms down and there's this scared rat head with arms trying to swim away that's r/natureisbrutal material though

FnafFan1212

Pleasant-Scheme-2484
