i moved into my house in july and have lived in box hell. depressed and absolutely no motivation to clean or unpack. i work primarily nights, so i'm all topsy turvy. i couldn't even be arsed to buy a garbage can for my kitchen, i've just been hanging a bag off a cabinet door. i'm clean, nothing is grubby or unhygienic and i like to cook and clean, but the large projects of unpacking and reorganizing and making things have a place and look like a home has just been too much for MONTHS.
on monday night, i made a HUGE list of all my small renovations, cleaning, decorating, and unpacking/organizing that i want to do. i broke them down into level of priority, cost, how long they may take, etc. and then made a smaller list of achievable things to finish this week. SMART goals yadda yadda
i had half of it done by wednesday and the rest will be done today. i'm fucking exhausted but i feel really good about having done some big stuff this week. and i do now have a garbage can, lol, that was one of my items this week 😂
So a few years back I was a pretty frequent reader of r/makeupaddiction, got into the Lorac Pro and ABH palettes. Then had a couple babies + pandemic and was off the makeup train for a while. Now I am back and want to get new palettes since I'm actually on camera/going out again........and I'm like where are any reviews and discussion on makeupaddiction? Finally found this sub which I'm SO grateful for! Now I'm totally down the rabbit hole of should I try Viseart or get some Sydney Grace singles or maybe ND instead and it's both fun and overwhelming! I even spent waaay too much time making a spreadsheet of the shades I've panned to try and find a palette that best replaces what I've used.
I love this sub too! I wanna talk about makeup all day. Not that I don't enjoy looks, but I crave the discussions! Also, Sydney Grace singles are fantastic. I love Viseart mattes but find their shimmers don't excite me. Natasha Denona has both nice mattes and shimmers. It's hard to be smaller indies for truly exciting shimmers and multichromes though. Karla Cosmetics has some gorgeous looking shades.
I love this sub too, glad to have you here! Just wanted to say I never tried the original Lorac palettes, but they reformulated a few years ago and I love the new formula. Noir and Fairytale Forest were some of my favorite palettes last year. All your other choices sound great as well, but actually I prefer Lorac over my Viseart and Natasha Denona palettes for neutrals.
I had gotten Soleil and Meraki for Christmas and was not happy with how they looked in person - that's what started all of this, lol. A couple shades existed in my prior palettes and they were TOTALLY different in person. I adore my Pro 2 and 4 and have panned a dozen shades between the two. But I keep seeing Noir and Fairytale (Soleil to some degree) still getting good reviews so maybe I should try those instead. I did get the mini Biba in August to dip my toe into ND and have to say I don't love it. Doesn't go on as easily for me, the shimmer doesn't pick up well so I was gunshy to spend more $$ there!
Was it the formulas or shades you didn't like? I bought Soleil during Black Friday and found Meraki at Winners this week, so aren't as familiar with those two but I would say Soleil has the same formula as Noir and Fairytale Forest. Meraki only has satin and metallic shimmers, while the others also have some shades that are a more dimensional sparkly shimmer (in Soleil, this is Desert Rose).
For Meraki it was the formula, Soleil felt too warm and duplicative in person. I'm adding Fairytale to my spreadsheet (lol) and it doe hit about a half dozen of the shades I'm looking to replace so it's definitely in consideration! I actually prefer the more subtle shimmer so that was another knock - in person some of the shimmers were very glittery and I don't use that in everyday.
Ah I see. I do like the other 18 pan formulas better than Meraki, but I couldn't pass it up for $15 haha. And I agree on the criticism for Soleil too. I really love the shade selection in Fairytale Forest, but will say some shimmers are pretty sparkly.
this is actually super helpful and agree - if I saw it for $15 I'd probably go for it! I actually pulled out all my palettes to see what I've panned and Lorac 2 & 4 were the most used - and it tended to be the peachy/mauve/rose gold colors which I didn't feel were strongly represented in those.
I am loving the Wednesday Addams aesthetic but wonder if it's worth shelling out 21$+tax for MAC Nightmoth. I am also not familiar with the formula. Anyone have both Nightmoth and the LAGirl dupe in Vamp and can compare?
I happen to have them both on me right now (bought Vamp because I lost Nightmoth, found it a day later), they’re dead-on color dupes. Vamp is a little bit heavier and waxier texture-wise so I would say that if you’re intending to do the Wednesday liner/balm mixture, Nightmoth is going to be more blendable.
I wanted to splurge on a greenish grungey gold eyeshadow for my birthday but couldn't find anything that would fit the bill 100%. Looks like I found it in a local drugstore! It's Catrice Art Couleurs in the shade Golden Leaf and I'm very pleased with the color payoff.
Got a new phone and it's an adjustment. It's much bigger and heavier, and I have small hands. The camera is great, and some of the changes in this latest OS (I was 4 behind) are nice, but I do miss my old phone. I wanted to hang onto it for a few more years but alas.
I also got a smart watch and it's janky. The heart rate monitor randomly just stops working for hours, and it'll randomly disconnect from my phone for no reason. Probably will take it back and get a replacement. Annoying. It's a nice watch though, hopefully I can get a better working one.
I just got home from uni because I had to take a very difficult and tricky Python data analysis exam. I stressed about it for the past few days and I honestly thought there is a chance I might fail it just because I didn’t have enough time to recap everything. But not only did I not fail it, I got the maximum grade and the professor congratulated me multiple times.
This semester has been way better than I anticipated with maximum grades at tests and me doing a 3 person project almost single-handedly and getting full score. It just feels so good when all the puzzle pieces fall into place
I'm so depressed that I cry almost every day now, multiple times. I hate crying in front of people and it keeps happening and I'm so embarrassed about it.
Sending you a virtual hug! Is there a reason you feel so depressed? Have you tried talking about it with someone? I have suffered from depression and for me it gets worse in the wintertime. I hope you feel better soon.
It didn't start out with a specific reason but because of it I've been stewing over a lot of things. I take meds for it and I see a therapist and psychiatrist regularly but its highly likely my depression is treatment resistant, so if this new med (thats super fucking expensive but luckily I have medicaid) doesn't work my only options left are ketamine treatments or ect and im not sure medicaid will cover that + I have bipolar disorder so there is a risk those experimental treatments may cause a manic episode. Thank you for the kind words, I hope you feel better soon as well.
My best friend has been doing the K treatments for both chronic pain and depression. She is having relief for the first time in years. You may be able to find a clinic that will do the treatment for free. I know in my area of Florida there are several that will offer treatments free for those who can't afford it to help improve quality of life. Wishing you all the best with your issues. I'm sorry you are struggling.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't know if this helps, but I had to try different antidepressants before I found one that worked. So maybe you haven't found the right one yet? I don't have experience with bipolar disorder so I can't say anything helpful about that. I really hope your new medication will help you feel better. I tend to stew over things as well, but it does help to find a distraction. Watch some Netflix, hug my cat. Have you tried a daylight lamp? I don't know if you can use that with bipolar disorder? I use it sometimes in the wintertime. I hope I was able to help you somewhat, English is not my first language.
I've tried almost every med under the sun outside of anti-depressants that are pretty much guaranteed to cause manic episodes, like Lexapro. I've been reading abit more often to take my mind off things but it's hard to not sit and stare at the wall all day or cry my eyes out. Thank you for trying to help. Also youre English is perfectly fine, dw too much about it!
Fellow person with bipolar here who thinks it sucks big time.
I have also cried multiple times in front of so many colleagues 😞 I hate crying in front of people too. I like to think that as soon as the crying is over, they don't think about it again.
Virtual hugs 🫂
not online, but all my nice washcloths came from tj maxx / ross / marshalls and other such stores. I just go and touch everything and look at fiber content. I don't really care about them matching my room or whatever so ymmv.
I love my makeup eraser (the large cloth not the individual ones!) it's super soft even after machine washing multiple times.
It's one of those things that feels gimicky, but was totally worth it for me. I would happily have multiples of these

That's so good, congratulations! I also moved in July and am nowhere close to being done. Boxes galore. Hats off to you.

yes! the discussions are what I'm really after! That and swatches so I love the swatchme sub too.
Same! I love swatches and swatching.

I've gained back my loss passion for makeup lately.

Thank youuuu. I'll head to Ulta and grab Vamp then.
I can't help, but I just had to say Nightmoth looks sooooo nice! I have never heard of it before and now it's on my wishlist too lol
You can also try Burts Bees Dahlia tinted lip balm + lip pencil to create the look if you want something that is more moisturizing.

Can anyone recommend where to get nice face (wash) cloths from? preferably online.
I use microfiber cloths, you can get a big pack for cheap
thanks, I find microfibre a bit too harsh for my skin so want to avoid that
