Why is Sliver Queen so expensive!?
By - FishfulThinker
It's the original sliver lord and it's on the reserve list. Yes, it will never be reprinted.
Never is a long time for a corporation that has already reserve list cards
I do not understand what your point is.
>are they never gonna reprint it or something
Exactly this. Sliver Queen is on the "Reserved List," which is a list of cards that will never be reprinted according to Wizards of the Coast. No future reprints + popular tribe means it's going to be expensive (and will probably only get more expensive).
Jesus Christ 😂
The first rule of Mtg finance is don’t crack packs. The second rule is learn the reserve list.
Why are you getting downvoted? lol
Because he didn't know something. That's a big no-no around here
Everyone is ok with proxies, or you can get one of the other sliver lords, which to me seem often more effective...
Have the Queen, rock the Overlord.
Appreciate the help didn’t realise about the reserved list can’t justify paying that amount for a card 😂 just my luck to want a card that won’t ever get reprinted again lol
Hey friend. Just an "I'm sorry" for future you when you look at the rest of the cards on the reserved list. Lol
Needed that 10 minutes ago looked at the reserved list and thought that’s enough Google for today lol
Well, you could get a *Reina de los fragmentados*, for half the price of a Sliver Queen!
If it's for casual play, ask your friends if they're ok with a proxy.
Welcome to Magic.
Just get one now and you’ll get to play with it forever while it doubles in value every 5 years or so.
Next time use google
I don't understand it either. Who's even playing paper Vanguard in 2021? And who in that tiny subset of players actually wants to give up potential hand size advantages and powerful abilities for 8 extra life and [[Sliver Queen, Brood Mother]]'s ability to make a three mana 1/1? It just doesn't make any sense.
Is that "oof" because you didn't realize the Vanguard version was pushing $100, you thought I was legitimately mixing up the two cards, or you didn't like the joke?
Probably just a bad joke.

Stronghold was released in 1998, and there haven't been any reprints. Plus, slivers are a popular tribe, and have continued to receive support.
"there haven't been any reprints"
That isn't really true tho.
There was a oversized card made, in foil even.
So for EDH purposes there has been a reprint(atleast if you want it as your commander.
But yes, no true reprints.
I don't count oversized, since you can only play them in EDH and you can technically end up with your commander shuffled in to your deck even then (back when I played EDH more it wasn't even optional - shuffle effects were the ideal Commander removal)
Because she is a boss ass Queen!
A Reserve List card holds their value. So you don't even have to think about the price since you are only storing your savings in the card instead of a bank. Which is actually safer.
Comments like this are what make me very very cautious.
"A reserve list MTG card is safer place to put your cash than a bank."
If you're trying to store value a bank is a guaranteed loss. Just because the rate of loss is reasonably stable doesn't make it safe.
Be cautious all you want.
Storing savings in a magic card over a bank? No, not even close.
Now tossing some investment play money into a card, sure.
But in general for 99% of the population, investing in magic is dumb.
This is very bad advice.
Buy a proxy of this one or alt version of. Not worth the cost.
I remember when my friend and I built a sliver deck together and found a queen for $50. Sold it a few months back for 200 or something.
The card is among the best of the Stronghold set so compared to other sets from that period with a similar number of print runs, e.g. Tempest, Exodus or Saga, the top rare here is NOT so expensive in comparison with other Reserve List:
[[Sliver Queen]] USD 370
[[Mox diamond]] USD 625
[[Earthcraft]] USD 190
[[City of Traitors]] USD 320
[[Survival of the Fittest]] USD 275
[[Gaea's cradle]] USD 1050
[[Serra's Sanctum]] USD 350
Not all of these are generally colour playable so seeing the prices move towards say the Diamond is not unforeseen

Slivers were a pricy game before Time Spiral Remastered; slivers popping out of here, including the formerly-$100 Sliver Legion made the Sliver Queen highly valued and picked up for more recent players to build with Commander.
That alone sold a lot of Queens, and as it's reserve list the price just flew from $200 before TSR release to \~$400 not long after
