"I'm the captain now"

l5555l

Quote is more famous than the movie

Misdirected_Colors

Movie was pretty meh and forgettable, but Tom Hanks having a panic attack at the end was one of the most intense things I've ever seen on film. The dude can act. Gave me chills and made me ball my eyes out.

b3na1g

The lady was a real Navy Corpsman doing the procedure on screen

saucercrab

Friendly FYI: it's "bawl" my eyes out.

Zack123456201

I originally mis read what they had written and thought they said the scene was so intense their eye balls fell out

NatAttack3000

Unless be actually meant 'ball'... Like with a melon baller

skidstud

As someone who has worked in a bar for the last six years, the majority of movie lines I hear drunk people shouting come from Will Ferrell movies

FuckinPeacemaker

Shake and bake!

amorous_chains

No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative!

Joe-Lollo

It gets the people goin’!

gatsby365

This one has the added bonus of Kanye & Jay Z

You pooped in the refrigerator?!

Dooley_noted

Ma! The meatloaf!

mr_pineapples44

I'M IM A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION!

Joe-Lollo

What about quotes from characters not played by him in those movies? “It works 60% of the time, all the time” and “I love Lamp” from Anchorman both come to mind.

Jaspers47

Some poor lonely drunk in the back corner shouting lines from Holmes and Watson, and everyone just ignores him

DontAskHaradaForShit

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

CCC2321

Tangerine

keb2

I’m not sure if it’s famous to other people, but I think of this quote quite often: “You are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole.”

Undeadlight12

I'm sorry! My Prada's at the cleaners! Along with my hoodie and my fuck you flip flops you pretentious douchebag!

theredditoro

That’s the iconic quote. One of the best lines Sorkin has written.

TheRealCaptainR

Andrew Garfield fucking KILLED this role.

Sutec

This is Social Network, right? I enjoyed that movie.

plzsnitskyreturn

It's actually from Pixar's Dinosaur but similar scenes

Mad-Mad-Mad-Mad-Mike

WITNESS ME!!!!!!!!!!

jdblawg

"MEDIOCRE!" Fury road has a bunch. My favorite movie of all time.

AtheistCuckoo

Yeah! SHINY AND CHROME! "That's bait." is another one.

TastyTortoise

"Oh, what a day... What a lovely day!" is one I routinely use in a few situations. I love the delivery of that line so much, I couldn't even tell you why.

[deleted]

I Will Look For You, I Will Find You, And I Will Kill You.

NedPlimpton-Zissou

I think “I have a particular set of skills” has made it firmly into the zeitgeist. Everyone knows it’s about making a threat, even if it’s a joke 99% of the time.

forever87

he's also good at making lists > https://vimeo.com/141940661

bob1689321

That scene/line is basically the reason why the movie crushed at the box office. They realised they had gold and stuck it in every trailer and poster.

JafariSin

Guy really has the perfect voice for that line delivery Original was badass. Too bad about those hot trash sequels though

Rindsay515

I still crack up every time I think about taken 3 when the detective tells Neeson at the end that he knew he wasn’t the murderer because the bagels in his apartment were still hot

CxOrillion

One of my favorite reviews is "Taken 3 makes Taken 2 look like Taken"

ChocLife

I thought Taken was WAY older than 2008.

horschdhorschd

He stole John Wick's car and killed his dog, sir Oh

kingR1L3y

"A fuckin penciiiil"

NormanBates5340

You’re a wizard Harry.

Doug_McQuaid

“Why so serious?”

LedgerShredders

I mean, the line is over a decade old, and is already proven to be a classic and iconic,

JafariSin

'How about a magic trick? I'm gonna make this pencil disappear! Ta-daa!' Ok it won't be a classic and nothing deep about it. But it was funny as shit

Shady_Hound

What would Joker have done if Gambol didn't send his guard over? Joker announced the magic trick before Gambol gave the signal.

haywoodyamilkme

[Glad you asked!](https://youtu.be/U7F2t6wgHfY)

grumblyoldman

He's an agent of chaos, he would've figured something out. More realistically, he probably would have just kept talking until someone came over. He was an outsider in the room, and an unwelcome one at that, it's a safe bet that sooner or later someone would've tried to come over and evict him.

[deleted]

That’s a 2008 movie and it’s already a classic.

"It's Morbin' time" - Morbius from *Morbius* (2022).

fobygrassman

It’s wild that you can know this is the line, and know he’s gonna say it, but still when he does and then when he morbs all over those guys you’re still like 🤯. It’s the true sign of great cinema

Guypoope

This is what I came here for.

nutsotic

Fuck off, that's not real is it? Thought that was just the meme gaining sentience

Km_the_Frog

No it’s real he morbs 3 guys right after

Soup-a-doopah

I heard that he morbed at least three others offscreen too

ryanreigns

You have to watch the movie a few times before you unlock the line

VenomousDeath27

Why would that be a meme? He spends the whole film trying to decide on a catch phrase, and that's the one he decides on before he fights Vampire Dr. Who.

harshnoisebestnoise

Ye’re fond of me lobster ain’t ye? And the whole of the hark monologue

straub42

“Alright. Have it your way. I like yer cookin’” I like this line better since it’s the punchline. Dudes literally just been cursed and is like “Aw. Oops. nm”

mcmonsoon

“Whydja spill yer beans?” Would be my choice from that movie

jefffosta

“Bad luck to kill a gull”

hwrold

Sea bird

ConfusedTapeworm

Now I'm imagining people casually reciting the entirety of the hark at each other.

AldredoGarciaReturns

AbeFrobozzman

JLanTheMan

Don't even think of that movie when I hear that qoute anymore. I immediately think of the meme where they dubbed over spiderman from spiderman 1 after he saves MJ from the first goblin attack and drops her off on the roof.

ucancallmevicky

that's funny I hear that and all I can think about is [Nadia from what we do in the shadows describing the name Jeff](https://youtu.be/5lncYWRBxgg?t=14)

JinFuu

Guess Poe and Finn were too busy “resisting” to play the OG Battlefront 2.

[deleted]

Oh this will stay for a good bit for horrible writing decisions. I... still cannot understand how the script supervisors went through all of it and though "that's fine".

bloodbeardthepirate

A script supervisor doesn't control the content. They make sure that if that line is in the script, that you actually got the shot that includes the character saying it. But yes, the writers/director/producers should not have let that line stay in the script.

RoscoeSantangelo

They are also in charge of keeping continuity through each shot and the film. Once something is on screen, the scripty has to be on top of it to make sure it isn't moved. They also need to keep track of actors' actions to make sure it will cut together with other takes. Having a good scripty will literally save a film

ImaginaryNemesis

"So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you."

chadillacmuscalade

Ahhh Love Waymond so frickin much, His Kung-Fu is Kindness

JafariSin

'This is how I fight' Not a new quote but perfect for his character's explanation and to show he has strength beneath his usual exterior

theredditoro

He’s such a fantastic character. His other monologue is terrific as well.

Dragon_yum

And what a comeback for the actor. I can’t even imagine how a child actor who quit comes back and lands this role and absolutely knocks it out of the park.

LKMagnesium

Out of all of the lines in that movie, this one stuck with me the most. It is simple, but memorable.

dudinax

That whole scene was just pitch-perfect.

ImaginaryNemesis

The framing, the background lights in a row that lead up to his soulful eyes, his delivery, all perfect. It's a simple shot, but it's absolutely sublime.

CroweMorningstar

If you like that scene, you should check out films by Wong Kar-wai (In the Mood for Love, Chungking Express, etc.). He was a big influence on visuals of those scenes.

BigBossTweed

I knew it! When I watched this I kept thinking how much it reminded of Mood for Love. So glad someone confirmed it.

blueberry_sushi

Ke Huy Quan (Waymond) was actually an assistant director for Wong Kar-Wai, so the connection is even more direct.

Misdirected_Colors

For me it was "I don't know what's happening but I feel like its my fault." Such a heartbreaking line that tells you so much about his character.

FP_Daniel

I came here for good quotes not to cry again

Jensdabest

What movie is this?

xarchangel85x

Just showed my gf and her son this movie yesterday. They definitely tend to prefer more mainstream movies so I felt like I kind of had to prep them a bit by saying it was a little weird/bizarre but totally worth it. They loved it!

Theguy2641

I love this movie but that line isn’t my favorite part of that scene. Maybe a bit too bumper sticker wisdomy for me. But I love when he says something like “You might think that because I’m kind that I’m naive and maybe I am. It’s necessary and strategic. This is how I fight.” I don’t know why but this line really works for me

ArcherInPosition

His whole speech to her is memorable.

Jskidmore1217

“It’s not naive it’s a strategy.” The most impactful line in the movie for me, personally.

i_crave_more_cowbell

That line was so well delivered. I really hope it does become well known.

DiscombobulatedSir11

IMMEDIATELY WEEPS

Jskidmore1217

The only one listed here I think actually has that potentially timeless quality to it. I’m just not sure enough people are going to see this movie- if they do, I think this one might be it. Though it will probably just be “In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.”

LHJ2022

What movie is this from?

Jskidmore1217

Everything, Everywhere, All At Once

ImaginaryNemesis

I worry that since it wasn't actually delivered in English that it might not have as much sticking power as other classic movie lines. It packs a helluva wallop all the same...just reading it out loud to myself gets me all verklempt

vampiredisaster

I think it'll be one of those sleeper hits that eventually becomes a cultural touchstone.

Arbuh

I use the final line from that film constantly. After dinner, after a satisfying shit, upon completion of a crossword. So versatile. "I'm finished!" My wife, she is not impressed.

slade51

Damn it! Watchman was from 2009, I just missed it. I came here to say “I’m not locked in here with you. You’re locked in here with me!” The story of my life, close but no cigar.

AmIFromA

That one was famous before the movie came out, though. It's [straight from the comic](https://geekwisdom.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/watchmen-quote.jpg?w=657&h=1024).

Lord_Spy

I honestly respect how Hayter and Tse's approach to dialogue was mostly just copying verbatim what's on the page.

billiebol

Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.

Pretend_Pension_8585

All that for a drop of blood

ZwischenzugZugzwang

Personally I think the whole speech about "I know what it's like to feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail all the same" is much more compelling but I can't deny that your quote is more well known for sure.

eXclurel

"I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail nontheless. It's frightening. Turns legs to jelly. But I ask you to what end?! Dread it, run from it, destiny arrives all the same. And now it's here. Or should I say, I am." Written from memory. I love this speech so much.

DoughnutDrake

> I know what it's like to feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail all the same redditors when their comments are downvoted.

Cold_Turkey_Cutlet

Actually that makes me think of an even better one from that movie... "Do not, my friends, become addicted to water. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence!" I've actually heard people quoting that line lately as a kind of political metaphor. It's pretty clever and I could see it becoming long lasting because of it's relevance in politics.

vrkas

It's not even metaphor. There are conflicts over water happening all the time, from nation states to ruthless private entities like Nestle killing indigenous advocates. We've had the wars for guzzoline, wars for water is no surprise either.

>"Gentleman, you had my curiosity, now you have my attention." Calvin Candie in Django Unchained (2012) This one's arguably already there! I see it quoted in a variety of different contexts pretty often

Jedi_Council_Worker

Django is very quotable in general as are most Tarantino films.
