Unfortunately we are stuck with the blackouts until the teams and regional sports networks renegotiate. Seems like there is some movement on getting rid of them, but the RSNs are going to want their cut, so to get an in-market team, you will probably have to pay extra, which I'm fine with if it is not a crazy amount.

Corky_Kenobi

Use a VPN.

caveman512

I realize how absolutely stupid this makes me sound but I couldn’t figure out how to use a VPN for the god damn life of me. Google still knew right where the fuck I was every time

HarvesternC

VPN won't work on your phone, but works great on TV apps and desktop. Some work better than others, some won't work at all.

Corky_Kenobi

There’s always DofuSports for your phone as well. That’s usually reliable.

caveman512

I was using Nord on a desktop and still couldn’t figure all my shit out. I’m sure it’s super simple but I just wasn’t getting the hang of it. I have similar experience trying to use ratchet straps

Throw13579

Ratchet straps are the devil.

avantegarde

VPN works just fine on mobile you just have to turn off location services for the MLB app. Because by default, the app uses GPS to grab your location and your VPN connection only works on your internet connection. (Wifi/cellular)

HarvesternC

Not sure how that works for you. MLB app will not work by default if location services is disabled.

avantegarde

Are you on iOS or Android? And have you actually tried it? Just tested it again on android and it works just fine for me. And I used the same method last year when I was on iOS. I can test it again on the wife's iPhone later but should be the same. I'm not saying you turn off location services on the entire phone but turning it off just for the MLB app.

Corky_Kenobi

Mine works on my phone. It’s how I watch day games in my office🤣

avantegarde

It's most likely not your fault. MLB uses very persistent cookies in your browser. If you clear your caches and cookies it will probably work. You can also download or use a different browser that you haven't visited mlb.com on before and it should work. Just make sure your VPN connection is active BEFORE visiting MLB.com. 👍

minos157

This clinging to cable by older execs is insanity. I live in Chicago, wife is a big Cubs fan, we are MORE THAN WILLING to pay Marquee money to stream Cubs games, but we aren't willing to pay for cable just to get the network because we won't use the cable subscription enough to make it worth it. Marquee would make tons of cash by offering a streaming package. I know plenty of Cubs fans that would pay $20 a month for it to save on a $100 a month cable package.

angrysandwich_

Where is the Bally Sports hate club?

Anonymousma

I'm in.

HomChkn

yeah 20 bucks a month to watch one team. It would be a bit different if the other pro teams in kc where not the thunder and blues. Is there a lot of cross over?

shawnapair

Also, the same damn commercials over and over and over.

Clognitaaa

I’ve never wanted Little Caesar’s less than I do now.

MattBallzzzy

You’re getting Pizza? I keep getting the “here shit in this cup if you’re over 40”.

MikieIrish

They are now the official pizza sponsor of the NFL too, that should be fun.

LordDaybreak

SHADY RAYS IS AN INDEPENDENT SUNGLASSES COMPANY

Anonymousma

I was getting the vrbo commercials now it's the Kaley cuoco commercials.

Funny_Science_9377

I couldn’t get over that ungrateful kid who is mad at the literal mansion where his family reunion is happening. Also, sure looks like a party at that Vrbo.

Anonymousma

I can't figure out why he's so down. I guess he doesn't want to deal with the kids?

ididdrugsonce

Look at meee

Anonymousma

SHUT UP KERMIT

chris012696

Honestly I would totally be okay if they had the mlb zen for the full commercial break.

RangerRick711

Honestly it's better than it was back in 2012 the last time I had it. In 2012 they didn't have any commercials it was just a blank loading screen during the TV breaks, and they didn't have even close to the amount of features they do now.

ogbcthatsme

Omg that’s the worst!

cake4chu

Check out THIS virbo!

FraudyWitt_Jr

If cars could run on lies, Joe Biden and Sharice Davids would be cruising. Lol

FrogyyB

I only had to move halfway across the country to finally watch my favorite team 😂

IAPiratesFan

My cousin lives in Florida, he said it’s easier being a Cubs fan there than it was 190 miles west of Wrigley.

RoyHarper88

As a result more blackouts will be implemented

electric_tiger_root

Yet in the same breath will be like : (Shocked pikachu face) “why is the sport dying?!?”

stormcrow2112

The blackouts will continue until morale improves.

Greatlarrybird33

I mean once you blackout enough teams it feels like some nights all I could get is two nl west teams 10pm game.

RandoScando

And Joe Kelly is suspended for 8 games.

SvmmyMivmi

Get a VPN and you can set your location anywhere. It’s worked for me.

Eswin17

The average MLB fan does not know how to do this, does not know this option exists or does not want to do this. The point is...you shouldn't have to. MLB is the most regional of all the sports...there should be multiple options for local individuals to get their local games and content. Cable, streaming, etc. MLB continues to shoot themselves in the feet when it comes to business decisions.

-free-hugs-

I've been using NordVPN to get around the blackouts but even that doesn't always work. So. Freaking. Annoying.

xCASINOx

Nord worked flawlessly for me up until this season. What i have to do is login to mlbtv with nord off then when it shows the blackout screen i turn on nord in a location that isnt blackedout and refresh the page.

RandoScando

I have nord and have had the same problems. I’m going to have to check this technique out next time. Thanks.

xCASINOx

Hope it works. I sometimes have to do it a couple of times but i might just be doing it in the wrong order.

RandoScando

Whatever the case, appreciate a different approach.

cysentix

so far, the windscribe desktop app doesn’t work but the extension does

-free-hugs-

>windscribe Interesting... I hadn't heard of Windscribe. I'll check this out.

1g12345678

i am in Victoria(canada) and can't see Toronto, which is like somebody in Portland not being able to watch Detroit.

Throw13579

Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine?

1g12345678

Oregon...actually I am not sure how far maine is from Detroit....turns out it is 2200miles to Oregon and 752 miles to Maine.

MikieIrish

Even the free game of the day is blacked out if you’re in that region. It’s fucking absurd.

masterofbeast

So u want improved, better blackouts?

carnegieXontario

Probably the only perk of living in the middle of nowhere. My only blackout is the Mariners. And personally, idgaf about them so it’s whatever. I like to keep up with Cleveland, the Mets and the Nationals. I don’t really have a favorite team, just keep up with the game every now and then. I have so many different team hats/jerseys it shouldn’t be legal lol.

Griever08

MLB. TV mostly worthless due to blackouts. No sane human still has cable

ogbcthatsme

Many Boomers have cable AND land phone lines part of “the bundle” these corps use to prey on the elderly.

Anonymousma

My parents.

tintwistedgrills90

I'm not a Boomer but my HOA bundles my cable with high speed WiFi at a nice discount. It would probably cost more for me to cut my cable and purchase 10 subscription services than what it costs me for cable. With that said, the blackout restrictions are absolutely ridiculous. Stop telling me you're trying to grow the sport's popularity with constant rule changes to speed up "pace of play" when you make it impossible for a huge segment of the population to even watch your product.

iherpyouderpwederp

Congress needs to step in and force these sports leagues to offer an all-one-TV subscription service without in-country blackouts. Right now, they are colluding with channel owners to further segment the market and price gouge.

Rickard403

The MLB DAMNED Blackouts.

ard8

I’m blacked out of FOUR teams! The closest I live to any of them is a 5 hour drive. Two of them are over 8 hours away.

Yeahyeshellohi

At that point just pirate!

Gosox04

I know the feeling, blacked out of 5 teams and none closer than about a 5 hour drive

[deleted]

I'm just happy YouTube has a free game on MLB now and then. I can't afford cable/MLB.

tintwistedgrills90

Thank you for doing that.

Gosox04

Yeah living in Nevada every California team and Arizona are blacked out. Even the Bay area, which is over 8 hours away from me. Also, now with the God damn YouTube and Apple TV broadcasts I lose out on even more games. Infuriating

Wubbadub_

Were these posts not banned?

Harambefan69

Wait there are blackout? Can’t believe I haven’t heard about this before

Trap-King-

This.

Tommy_Crash

YES

JuiceDistinct3280

Literally just had this conversation with their twitter customer support.

Cat-Trees

Did something similar haha

Minimum_Banana5

Find the dancing cat and cut out mlbtv all together.

JD-Pro89

To be fair, I don't think there is anything they can do about the blackouts. It's one of those things they would have to work out with each and every network that plays MLB games.

anongamblers

Well said here lol

dankdooker

I agree. Blackouts make the networks seem cheap. How much money can they possibly make from blackouts? I don't think too many extra people are going to the games because of blackouts. maybe they could do a study or analysis and see if it's working

SoleaPorBuleria

I’d like the radio broadcasts to not be on a 2 minute delay.

SneakySnake722

The best way to avoid it is to use a vpn. It sucks but it’s worth it

lazyslistener

Like how am I in Dallas blacked out because the Mets are playing Houston. Such stupidity.

CountryCat

Blackouts need to go!!!

TWill42

Astros, Rangers, Cardinals and Royals all blacked out for me…. Good ole Oklahoma.

meowthedestroyer95

Fuck those blackouts. I had to get a vpn to watch games in my own backyard

C-da-rip

Don’t forget not being able to watch multiple teams because you live in the middle of them🙄

J4M0MU51C

Preach!!

ThomasCrowley1989

Fight the good Fight

BravesGOAT28

I can’t watch braves because of blackouts but I watch dodgers all the time and I’m in NC???!?

giantsfan310

Those highlight video don’t let you rewind and it glitches the whole app out

JMP52

Absolutely. In North Carolina we get blacked out of The Braves,The Nationals,The Orioles, and the Phillies.

Embarrassed_Neck1060

In the RDU area, it's only Nationals and Orioles.

Mister_Spacely

*Improve* the blackouts?

IAPiratesFan

I don’t get Brewers, Cardinals, Twins and Royals games on my cable subscription. Just Cubs and White Sox. Ok, black out the two Chicago teams since they’re on my cable subscription, but why the other four teams? And why is it when I drive about 15 miles east and across a river, just the Cubs, White Sox and Brewers are blacked out?

Embarrassed_Neck1060

I did the same.

Throw13579

And they don’t even get the feedback from those of us who don’t even try to watch any games because of the blackouts.

RP912

The main reason why I canceled my sub. I really wanted to love this service, but holy hell the blackouts are killing me. Along with the same dude car commercial with the pregnant lady.

xxmyredditgamertagxx

Thank you good sir

sam_dewy

Idk why they even ask 😹😹🤦‍♀️

TWTW40

Completely lost touch with my favorite baseball and basketball team over blackouts. I lice 90 miles from the city and can’t watch 90% of the games.

PhillipRMcCallister

Why would I pay the MLB Network for a service where 3 of my favorite teams are blacked out? And even when Cincinnati plays on the west coast, they still block them here on the east coast. That blows my mind.

Fancy-Luck3879

I just recently found live sports through Kodi on the fire stick so that’s been nice because I haven’t been able to watch the Braves in 2 seasons.
