Blair Walsh: Vikings ‘have the offensive weapons to put up 35-40 (points) a game’ this season | (starts at 25:42)

Now if only our defense doesn’t give up 41-50 points a game we might win a few games
And yea, if we do throw enough to do that, it is because of this.
Our defense last year isnt why we missed the playoffs. It was the offensive scheme.
What do you mean?
All the issues on defense happened. Injuries, covid holdouts and rookies. We couldn't prevent those issues. They happened. Our offense is good enough to over come all those defensive issues and still win games if used correctly.
Zimmers philosophy wont allow our offense to take itself to the next level. We should be out scoring teams by 20 points but Zimmer wants close games won by the defense.
Even with our crappy defense last year, Zimmer still kept his same philosophy, the defense will win us these games. He refused to adjust
So my point is, the offensive scheme, the way the offense was ran, is why we missed the payoffs. The things on defense happened and it was up to the offense to step up. The offense couldn't step up due to the scheme. Therefore the offensive scheme is why we missed the playoffs, not the defense.
TEN, GB, LAR, CLE, SF all run the same system. 4 of those teams were in the playoffs last year. All have made deep playoff runs in the last 2-3 years.
The difference is all those teams have offensive minded coaches who don't throttle back the offensive approach when the quarterback turns into a turnover machine
You don’t make the playoffs with a bottom 3 defense dude. The most difficult part about building an NFL defense is that just one hole can be exploited (like having an otherwise great defense, but a terrible no 2 corner). Our defense last year was 8 holes, Kendricks, Smith, and Harris. You cannot stop offenses with 8 holes. The Saints game is a good microcosm. The Vikings offense kept scoring touchdowns, but it was too easy for the Saints to control the clock and score.
We had a very high rated offense
Weapons, sure. But not the game plan. We are always gonna try to control time of possession under Zim. Been his MO his whole tenure here.
He plays to win with defense.
Yep, Zim's goal every game is to win 17-13, and gameplans accordingly on offense.
Exactly. This is what people dont seem to understand. Our offense was good enough to take us into the playoffs last year easy. But Zimmer wont allow the offense to be the heros. Its a joke.
We could be one of the top 3 offenses in the leauge. Zim will not allow that to happen. Cousins is one of the worst come from behind QBs in the game today. We need to be playing to our strengths not playing the game like Zimmer wants
> Cousins is one of the worst come from behind QBs in the game today.
It was a skor north podcast. They in depth broke down all his the 4th quater performances and compared them to the all the other QBs in the last 20 years. It was actually really interesting. Cousins isn't a bad QB by any means. Its just if his team is behind in the 4th QTR he shits the bed hard
With a defense that gets back to classic Zimmer style (21 or less PPG) and a reliable kicker we may just make a deep run!
I was hyped for Blair Walsh and he broke my heart. I was hyped for Daniel Carlson and he broke my heart. And now I'm hyped for Riley Patterson and I'm ready to get hurt again.
You and me both
I’m ready for Riley Patterson’s week 4 replacement to break my heart.
Classic Zimmer style is to keep the game close. Not outscore the other team by as much as possible. Cousins is a really good QB until he has to play from behind. Zimmer has us playing from behind all the time due to his scheme. We wont make a deep run as long as Zimmer keeps the offense on a leash
I'm talking specifically about defense and not at all about offense....
We won’t throw enough to do that
We hopefully won’t need to throw enough to do that
They should throw more if they want to make any noise in the playoffs
The vikings have been stacked on offense for a while. Hard to score a lot when all they do is run once they get a lead. The only reason they scored so much last year is because they fell behind so quick because their D was so bad. If the defense recovers and is a top 10 defense this year, i'd say that their offense numbers will probably drop a fair amount.
The Oline had always been a problem though so not exactly stacked but they have had playmakers
I can hear it now... Jefferson is having the dreaded sophomore slump but the vikes are winning regardless of his lack of production. Was Jefferson in fact a bust?
First off: WHO?
Second: Zimmer has this offense coming in from the 90’s with this establish the run all the time nonsense which is going to hold this team back from scoring 35-40 pts a game
Haven’t those 90’s style Broncos offenses re-taken the league by storm? Mcvay, Shanahan, etc are all running the same stuff Stefanski, Kubiak, and Kubiak jr run
Yes, but those are different variants of the same offense, a-lot more motion and creativity. The offense last year, despite the numbers yardage wise it put up lacked that.
But all these offenses start with a “establish the run and then play action to hit them deep” philosophy, so I don’t think it’s as outdated as you’re implying.
It is when you lead the league in runs on 2nd and 10.
Yeah that is true. I wish they would stop doing that as much.
Thank you. God forbid the offense ends up being the heros of the game.
Damn i really don't get the Blair hate. But love for Teddy... Blair put in 3 field goals in -15 windchill game, two of which were of the laces. The one he missed was the closest Bridgewater could ever get to the end zone.
Kicker should make be able to make a 27 yarder no excuses
There's plenty of excuses.
Shut up Blair we are NOT COOL.
The kick is up and away! - AAAANNNNDDDDD Walsh is wide left yet again!
If we have to score that many points a game, Zim gets fired for sure.
What ever happened to Kluwe? I remember when he used to be in HAMS then got all pissy and political.
He supports the gays n Minnesota republicans didn't like that so he was canceled.
