darthnick96

I literally just got $450 from a junkyard for my totalled 99 Outback that got t-boned lmao

AWonderland42

Right? The car has to be worth more than $300 as scrap.

McHildinger

It is, but Carvana needs to make a profit.

RetiredClueScroller

Carvana is down bad in case anyone didn't know

EvlSteveDave

They are in the complete fucking gutter, and I still think it’s a good short play.

Azal_of_Forossa

They offered me 160 ish for my 04 mustang v6 lmao, then offered me 290 for my 04 mustang gt. Apparently they give good deals for new cars, but if you have an old car they'll just steal it if you let em.

FinndBors

Anecdotally they are offering shit for new cars nowadays too. They used to offer a lot.

BloodlustyGummybear

You have to imagine they offer you what it's worth to them not necessarily it's value. It really seems like they'd rather not take it with the price they offered you. I doubt that means they don't think someone else will give a more reasonable price. They just don't have much use for your car. They lose money with slow turnover. They don't want to store cars, they want to flip them.

odd84

I just did a quote for fun. They offered $43,201 for my 2021 VW ID4. That was a $36.5K car brand new in 2021 after federal incentives for buying electric. https://i.imgur.com/MB0uOCR.jpg

RetiredClueScroller

Interesting, did you answer all the quality/maintenance questions with perfect and flawless for everything?

odd84

No actually, I chose "good" or whatever was one below "excellent/perfect", because it has a small parking lot ding in one of the doors. I sold another car to Carvana last year... I told them it had cosmetic imperfections and in the box to describe it I said "scratches, road rash on wheels, tear in trunk liner" and they still paid me more than KBB for that car. They also didn't inspect it at all when they picked it up from my house, just drove it onto the truck and I got paid. They held onto that car for 11 months before fixing all the cosmetic issues and selling it. [I had it bookmarked on their site to watch](https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/2102486). They gave me $23,115 for that 2018 LEAF SV -- which is more than I paid for it in 2018 again. They sold it for $23,990. They definitely lost money on that deal.

ricktor67

Good, fuck them. Offering pennies on the dollar for cars and then charging absolute top dollar for any car they sell.

sapzilla

I got about $4k for my totaled ‘08 Outback a few months ago. That was through insurance, though.

darthnick96

I got more on top from insurance. This was strictly for scrap value

sapzilla

Oh nice, yay insurance during shit circumstances!

Army0fMe

Where are you that gas is still $7 a gallon?

el-beau

Pasadena. CA. And that is "regular" Gas prices shot up again recently in CA for some reason. Admittedly, this gas station was slightly pricier than others, but most places are hovering just below $7.

Army0fMe

And here I'm complaining about $4.19....

Mean_Motor_4901

…I just complained about $3.18 twenty minutes ago

WilcoLovesYou

$3.44 in Massachusetts ($3.14 with a $0.30 supermarket discount.)

michaelromannen

3.18?!? Man I just filled premium for 4.90 a gallon and was happy af because of how cheap it was. You’re living life on easy mode fr 😔

Bmelt

$5.69/gal here today for regular. WA

jumboface

God I'm moving to WA in a week. Just decided to sell the car and go full transit since I'll be near Seattle.

thisbemethree

Was gonna chime in from WA as well. South puget sounds area and it was down to $4.35ish/gal at Arco just 2 weeks ago, but now it’s shot back up over $5/gal. And that’s the cheapest around (without membership savings etc). Most places are $5.49+.

michaelromannen

Oof I’m in Chicago and I felt that. I filled up in rural Illinois last time tho so it was somewhat cheaper.

BottomWithCakes

Drove through Chicago last week and saw $5.29 in the city and $3.49 less than 20 minutes out of town.

iTechnologies

$5.50 for regular 87 octane in rogue valley, OR.

Viperlite

Too inexpensive?

cguti94

And here I am complaining about $2.90

Jrsplays

It was about $3.70-$3.80 here in Michigan just last week - then it shot back up to $4.19 a couple of days ago

wintremute

Just paid $2.94 in Tennessee.

Drulock

Yeah, but you’re in Tennessee. Cheap gas isn’t worth having to live under Bill Lee.

Tu_mama_me_ama_mucho

Dude WTF Tennessee is beautiful, but I'm not white so same.

psykick32

Tennessee is beautiful *to visit*

nooneescapesthelaw

Difference is you dont get paid california wages

nom_of_your_business

Yup in Ca and yearly is 90k+ broke as a joke.

Hadrians_Fall

90k is nothing in CA.

ankha_is_sexy

Jesus christ it must suck to have kids I could live like a king off $90k a year in San Diego.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hadrians_Fall

Dude, you must be out of touch. I wouldn’t move to CA from NY unless they doubled my salary. I know how expensive it is out there… and I live in NYC.

Army0fMe

I'd get paid the same whether in Michigan or California. I'm a disabled vet.

[deleted]

It went up a buck a gallon in Oregon last week! The shell right by my house is now $5.89. Which is much better than CA

Skyb0y

It's so weird to live in a country in Europe(Ireland) and see someone in the US pay more than I do. I paid $6.60 per US galon(3.78 litres) earlier today.

dl-__-lp

Hey if you want good money on your car I was gonna scrap my old BMW X5 and they only offered $250. I thought that was cheap so I asked around about what to do. I ended up taking apart the car myself then sold the types of metal separately, then sold the frame to them and ended up with about 1.5k overall. I dunno what your situation is, but maybe it’s good to know. They offered so cheap cause they had to do the work I did. It was a fun project too Just spreading what I know lol

DarkestPassenger

Oregon is right behind you. Regular is approaching 6 a gallon

BumfuzzlingGubbin

WTF we’re back to $3 in New York

LibrarySuper9362

Yup same here in NH

melodyknows

Hello fellow Pasadena resident! Literally was complaining yesterday about the price of gas! I can't believe how much it costs!

el-beau

Hey there. This was right off the 110. All over $7/gallon.

Letitbemesickgirl

The Ralph’s gas station in Pasadena has pretty good value.

[deleted]

Lol you said “some reason” well maybe the reason is because you live in an anti oil and gas state perhaps? Get out while you still can.

zhemer86

California is one of the top oil producing states. I think they are number 6.

Rpanich

I mean, due to its size, California is probably one of the top *everything* producing states. It’s the worlds 5th largest economy, between Germany and the UK.

zhemer86

I’m aware. Was just pointing out the irony of him saying California is anti oil when they are one of the top oil producers in the country.

Rpanich

Oh no, sorry. I was agreeing with you, just adding some extra info for others.

Hot_Equivalent626

I’d rather live somewhere anti oil and gas than somewhere anti women and climate

denjmusic

Lol if you're pro-oil in 2022 your brain straight up does not work

BillyTalent87

$6.40 for premium here in Camarillo at the Valero. Probably more expensive at some other stations here.

MwwWinter

$2.87 here in TN

salamanderman732

Major refineries in Washington and Alberta are having issues, drying up the supply especially on the west coast

Pristine-Today4611

How recent is that?

el-beau

This morning.

Pristine-Today4611

Damn gas is $3.45 here today in Kentucky

Enygma77

Just put gas at $2.69 at Costco… but I am in the middle of nowhere GA

PotatoPieGaming

In europe we pay $7.5 a gallon (€2 per liter).

funnyfarm299

At least that's super. This is most likely regular.

Army0fMe

Well that sucks.

Putrid-Vanilla7413

“The only way that car is worth $500 is if there’s a $300 hooker sitting in it!”

michaelromannen

Elite reference

xReckersx1

Wub wub wub

MedicationGetsMeHigh

Carvana is a scam. That being said they know your car is about to be majorly fucked mechanically so that's something to think about also.

el-beau

Yeah, I'm waiting for a new car I ordered 16 months ago and am desperately trying to keep this thing alive until it finally is ready.

TheAuraTree

Don't tell me you ordered a cybertruck?!

el-beau

Nah. Bronco.

DJKhaledIsRetarded

Oh no :( I wanted one but the reviews were so off putting I didn't go with it. What made you pull the trigger?

el-beau

When I was first in the market, I looked around and just wasn't feeling anything else out there. I know the Bronco has had some issues, but everyone I've spoken to who got one loves it. I wouldn't have done it if I had known how long it would be or how bad shape my current vehicle was going to end up, I wouldn't have done it, but at this point, I've waited so long that I can't bring myself to give up and do something else.

RCmies

I guess this is a good lesson to never pre order anything, especially a big purchase like a car. Its insane how much suppliers can just scam people into buying products that don't exist.

DJKhaledIsRetarded

Really wanted a Bronco, went with a Honda. I just didn't want to spend 5 years making payments to have to turn around and start over. To each his own though! I hope it works out. Or that Ford does right by their customers and fixes the kinks as they come up.

Chief_Givesnofucks

That username 🤣🤣

djphatjive

Something about the engines blowing up for no reason?

southernmayd

As a Bronco owner... worth the wait!

el-beau

I haven't met any owner yet who hasn't told me the same thing.

ItsCalledSquawPeak

Just buy a Kia Sorento and put Bronco badges on it, nobody will be able to tell the difference.

el-beau

The biggest problem with Kias is that they are Kias. The telluride is a great SUV, but I will just forever think cheesy dancing hamsters when I hear "Kia"

Spartanias117

As soon as you said 17 months it had to be a bronco

darthnick96

I knew it had to be a Bronco when I saw this. The fact that they’re STILL not shipping them all out boggles my mind

el-beau

They are shipping soooome. Just not mine.

azi1611

I’m waitin for a bronco too bro.

el-beau

Ugh. I ordered mine in June '21. You?

ruinersclub

I’m pretty sure the dealer sold mine from under me. That waitlist is kind of bogus

el-beau

You can contact Ford directly (online chat) and confirm your order is still in the system.

ruinersclub

I mean I had the order number and all that. The dealer played dumb and tried to sell me a soft top version. But I was hesitant to purchase a G1 version anyway, so it was for the best. I’m going to wait until a hybrid version comes out.

failbox3fixme

Can you get a Maverick Hybrid any sooner?

ruinersclub

I’m interested in an AWD version.

Loves2Spooge857

Good luck. I've heard they have a lot of mechanical issues.

MakesMyHeadHurt

Yeah, just as a general rule, never buy the first couple of years of any new model.

el-beau

Well, then it's a good thing I originally ordered a '21 and am now getting a '23 (hopefully)

azi1611

Oct 21, but it’s a 2door lux Sasquatch. I’m expecting even longer.

TeachyMcTeachface

Damn guys. I picked one up from a dealership brand new in august. Didn’t preorder or anything. Wasn’t even in the market for one until the dealer recommend I test drove it

el-beau

Did you pay above msrp? Full size bronco or sport?

Gone247365

Bronco Bros.

ddollarsign

Don’t they have places with parking lots full of cars where you can go “I want that one here’s money” and drive away in it?

LemonDesu

When new cars come out that are in high demand dealerships can charge whatever price they want and you could end up paying 10-20k over MSRP. When you preorder however you’re essentially buying directly from the manufacturer and are locked in at MSRP price and can’t get price gouged by the dealerships

el-beau

Fake news!!!

jeanborrero

Only if you want one of the less popular models. I’m 3 months into my wait for a car ATM

ATLL2112

It's only got 120k on it. How could it be that bad?

SpicyAlbondiga666

Probably salvage title or has had collision work on it

ATLL2112

Even still. If not that, it should be worth AT LEAST $5-6k. I searched NADA real quick and it's showing $10k clean retail cash price, $5600 rough condition trade in.

SpicyAlbondiga666

Yeah Carvana is just ass when it comes to those

Enchelion

It's a Jeep.

lucky_ducker

$300 seems to be Carvana's "we don't think we can sell your POS car so we'll offer the scrap value."

ryoon21

Try TRED

booboothechicken

It’s not a scam, it just gives wonky values from its automated algorithm of cars it knows it won’t be able to sell. Last year they gave me 5k over blue book for my 2013 CR-V, which was also 6-10k more than any local dealership or Carmax was offering me.

K24Z3

Curious why they’d know about major mechanical fuckups with these. A friend has a Patriot with a damaged intake manifold (how does that even happen?!). Apparently parts don’t exist, so he has no options. You mean something like that or another big issue?

MexiKing9

Specific make/model/year that craps out after 120k? I was wondering where the assumption of carvana knowing came from aswell.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hotpinkmist

The fact that it's a Chrysler product should have been your first hint...

DiscotopiaACNH

My jeep compass just got diagnosed with the same issue. They said it would be a ludicrously expensive fix so I'm just driving on borrowed time now I guess

K24Z3

Interesting. I think it’s the same part for both vehicles, both engine choices, and like 35 other years/trims. I’m debating going to a junkyard/pick-and-pull to source one for him. To my surprise, most of the compatible vehicles in the scrap yards aren’t even wrecked. :/

BirdsAreFake00

It is? They recently offered me $16,000 for a 2016 VW Passat with 65,000 miles that I paid $13,500 for in 2019 when it had 27,000 miles. Hard to find a scam there.

KingBooRadley

Are you scamming THEM? Nice try, Carmax.

vexed_and_perplexed

Wwaait…are you me?! That is exactly what I did in 2019, same price, same car, with 30k miles. I barely drive and think I might now have 55k on it. Wonder what I could get…

BirdsAreFake00

Ha! Nice. Mine was about 45 days ago. It's free to find out. Good luck!

vexed_and_perplexed

Im have zero plan to part w my beloved Passat (which I plan on driving into the ground!) but I’m curious..I’m gonna check it out

BirdsAreFake00

Only reason I sold mine is because I went to an EV.

jason_abacabb

You know used car prices are through the roof right now due to supply issues right? That could be over or under market value.

BirdsAreFake00

It was way over KBB value. But regardless, in my experience, Carvana was far from a scam.

Aussiewhiskeydiver

10 years old is not that old

FERALCATWHISPERER

Carvana is not a scam! Sincerely, a Carvana shareholder.

ipoooppancakes

carvana was great for me

muddlemuddle6

True! I bought a Volvo on Carvana - picked it up, couldn't see out the back mirror, engine messages malfunctioning, making the loudest, strangest car noise I have ever heard, only started half the time. Returned it the next day - wrote to the CEO and all they said was "you got your money back, didn't you?".

supaswag69

How is it a scam?

GrundReport

They offered me more than I initially paid for my little 2020 Kia Forte 🤷‍♂️

Its_Raul

If youre really considering selling a car and are getting crap offers. Your can either private sale, which is a little pain. Or you can donate and enjoy the tax write off. In my case, the write off is the amount the car was sold for at auction.

el-beau

I will probably end up donating it. At least someone will come take it away for me. It has too many issues, I would feel bad selling it to a private owner.

Its_Raul

We did the same and went with kars4kids. They came, towed the car, then gave up some form a few weeks later after it sold at auction. I think it was for 800$? For comparison, the dealer didnt want it as a trade in and carmax offered 100$ lol.

el-beau

Thanks. Now I'll have that fu$&ing song stuck in my head all day!

Arnas_Z

Why? Just be upfront about the issues and sell it.

el-beau

Yeah. I would be upfront. But then I wouldn't get much money for it. I was hoping maybe someplace like carvana would just give me blue book value and then they can be the assholes when they resell it to someone.

Casual_Luchador

I’ll give you a $10 steam gift card and my recipe for fajitas

el-beau

Come pick it up, and we might have a deal!

Casual_Luchador

Ok I’m too poor for the gift card, but here’s the recipe. Defrost a bag of frozen Chicken breasts Cut them up into strips Start frying 2 whole onions (cut into slivers) 3 whole bell peppers sliced thinly (add after onions are carmelized) Fajita spice packet (add half early before the peppers, half after) about 8 Chipotle Peppers (chopped up thoroughly) 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar Reduce a lot of the liquid Salt and Pepper to taste Lime Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, hot sauce

K1ngofnoth1ng

They gave me 8k for an sx4 I paid 6k for 5 years and 150k miles prior. Gonna guess there is something wrong with the history and they are just giving you what they will get for salvage.

JohnDoe_2408

Yo holup. Are you saying they have SX4s in the US? I thought they were India(my family used to have one)/Asia specific!

aWormhatForVermhat

I’m surprised, I actually got a really nice Carvana offer for my used care a few months ago

qurtorco

Its a 10 year old car with less than 200k what the hell

el-beau

Couple of accidents. Currently unable to pass smog check. But I was still shocked and laughed when they offered $300.

qurtorco

Just get some injector cleaner and particle cleaner and it should be good to go

chammdawg78

Is it 4wd ?

imVision

Yes, it probably contributes to that thing doing worse on highway gas mileage than my car does in the city

el-beau

Yea

wintremute

Sell it to someone in a no inspection state.

letsdancetojoydiviso

That’s just how they tell you they don’t want your car

moor9776

Fuck Carvana. Hope they go under soon. How many states have prohibited them from doing business

Hadrians_Fall

I absolutely guarantee they buy a bunch of flooded out cars from Ian super cheap at auction and then sell them off without disclosing it.

BirdsAreFake00

I dunno, they gave me $16,000 for my basic sedan that I paid $13,500 for three years ago.

JJamesTownH

if we compare the used car market pre and post pandemic, is that still a good price though?

BirdsAreFake00

According to KBB, it was a very great price at the time.

LopsidedSugar

Are you gonna buy his car for >300? No? Then shut the fuck up

SPACExCASE

For real. Looking up the new Toyota GR86’s and they’re listing ones with a few thousand miles for $10k more than new.

tunaman808

$7/gallon gas? Jesus! It's $3.26/gal at the place down the street here.

BlobTheBuilderz

Carvana was offering me 11.5k for my car 6 months ago. Went to check it again with 5k more miles on it and they are now offering 6.5k. Guess they are running out of money. They are selling the same car for just as much as they were 6 months ago too.

Background_Cash_1351

Before the pandemic, pretty much anything over 13 years old was rebought as scrap, but you can find a private buyer who needs it as transportation.

eqleriq

do the same offer estimate at kbb ... there's no way that's $300

U53RN4M35

$300 is their “we don’t want your car” offer. Tried it with both my (10+ year old) cars, same offer.

Sinkerhawk

Carvana offered me $100 on my old car. We took it to a dealer and got $3000 trade-in. I would have bought from Carvana had they made us a decent offer. Now they're just a running joke in our family.

achmedclaus

Man you bring that thing to PA I'll give you 500 for it

el-beau

Spending $3000 on gas and $1000 on a flight home to sell a car for $500 doesn't seem like a good return on investment, but I'll consider it.

JackBurton12

Carvana wanted to give me $500 for my 2012 Ford escape with 130k miles on it. It's in great condition. Leather, etc. I hardly drive it. I just laughed when k saw that offer.

Jrsplays

Gas had gone down here in southern Michigan the past couple weeks to ~$3.80... not crazy like it was (around $5.20) but still not good. Then it shot back up to $4.19 a couple of days ago. It's crazy.

ifuckedyomama2

Dang for that price? I kinda wanna buy it from you

el-beau

It runs. I drive it every day. I wouldn't sell it for that much though. I'd rather do something fun with it like put a brick on the gas peddle and drive it off a cliff.

ifuckedyomama2

Well dang! I would use it lol

Foxtrot4321

Carvana is a joke...they offered me $400 for my mint C5 corvette. (Obviously wasn't gonna take the offer) I just wanted to see what they'd give me for it.

JonasPolskyAMA

The e-cycling phone ATMs give better offers

Dazzling_Work546

Carvana is known for scamming buyers, faces lawsuits from several state AGs, and has been prohibited from operating in at least one state.

antilochus79

Joke is supposed to be about the price of gas being so high. The real joke is someone driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty.

modssssss293j

That's cool but why is it nsfw?

el-beau

Not sure. I didn't do that did I?

Wizdel

I’ll give you $500

Sheepdoggy6969

Why is it showing as nsfw

el-beau

Good question. I guess $7 gas is just too offensive.

Sheepdoggy6969

Lmao

CoolMoo5e

Peddlesforcash gave me $450 cash for my 02 Saturn Ion L1 that had massive engine failure it leaked coolant into the engine bay and all I had to do was be there on the day they picked it up. Edit: it use to be peddlesforcash it is now just peddles and my offer is still above $400

Groinificator

I don't understand Also why is this nsfw

el-beau

I put $111 into my car that is worth $300. So, it increased the value of my car by 37%. I'm as confused as you are as to why it's blurred.

Groinificator

As the OP you can remove the nsfw tag if you wish

el-beau

Ta da!

Groinificator

Oh yeah

bobtheaxolotl

Carvana made an offer of $300 for my car, as well. Got $3000 trade-in for it.

SnowyChinchilla

I’ll give you about tree fiddy

BladeX16

Nice one. You are a real man of genius!

TommyTuttle

I will give you $500 for that jeep.

bexmartino

I have the 2010 of this car…. It is not worth $300 lmao. I went to sell it will the cat needing to be repaired and it was still worth $4K before prices spiked.

Splotchyitachi

I’ll give you $400 for it

TheCodeSlinger

Check Peddle, they’re quick and to the point.

shellyangelwebb

We sold a ‘01 F-150 to Carvana for $2100. It had 220000 miles.
