Stealth: Stealth Inc 2

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and Song of the Deep are two examples of games that fit the metroidvania label in terms of ability-gated progression and reliance on exploration. But they're side-scrolling shooters instead of platformers. The Supraland games are metroidvanias, played from a first-person perspective. So naturally a number of the puzzle sequences end up being similar to Portal, Talos Principle etc. In addition to A Robot Named Fight, Rogue Legacy also mixes metroidvania with roguelite. And it's sequel works in more metroid-like elements, at least until you've cleared the game once.

Rabi-Ribi mixes bullet hell with metroidvania better than Touhou luna nights and has much better gameplay imo. Salt and Sanctuary is basically 2d dark souls that is also an mv. Monster Sanctuary mixes MV with monster collection and turn-based combat. Great game. I've heard Yoku's Island Express mixes MV with Pinball though I haven't tried the game myself.

The new salt and sacrifice has added monster hunter elements. I never played monster hunter but that’s what people keep comparing the mage hunts too. I’m having a good time with it. It’s kinda a “souls like hunter metroidvania” I guess you could call it.

What is bullet hell?

Torus22

Sub-genre of the shoot-em-up, centered around dodging incredibily dense bullet patterns. "Incredibily dense" meaning: if less than a third of your screen is enemy projectiles, it doesn't count. So anything that involves dodging large amounts of projectiles at once gets compared to it. Crimzon Clover is a more beginner-friendly example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG1p5F4QgSQ

This is perfect, thanks for this! I know what you mean now, this does look like like absolute hell 😅

rtkbob

It would be easier for both of us if you just looked up gameplay. I don't know how to explain it.

motorange89

Fair dos. Never heard of it before so my curiosity is peaked now!

METROIDVANIA IS A PARADIGM OF WORLD DESIGN AND NOT A SUBGENRE
