Read this in Liam gallagher’s voice

[deleted]

No this is the worst if you are a night worker such as myself. And btw the drumset is NEXT DOOR? What are your houses built of over there? Papier Mache? Or is it an apartment?

giraffeekuku

Nah man. I live in an apartment complex and this dude plays the drums but lives in the next building (not connected in anyway, just slightly next to each other) and I can hear it clear as day. Drums are fucking loud

cuddlesandnumbers

They should have promised him an electric drum set with headphones instead of a regular drum set.

DicmoVolant

I lived across the street from my old high school for a while. The marching band would practice at 7:00 am every weekday during summer. Sometimes they would march right down the street in front of my house. I worked graveyard shift at the time, so these fuckers were just getting started as I was going to bed.

HekGoldbenji

Love the thoughtfulness, eh?

FRACllTURE

Could be 3-7am. Those "morning risers"...

harumamburoo

It is if you're working from home

happiees

A good sound dampening foam in the room should do the trick. Edit: My intention is for the person with drum set doing something to their practice space to reduce the sound that comes outside to a tolerable level.

Final_Slap

But only for higher frequencies, iirc. No Toms or Kick for you, little fella.

franzjpm

Tyere are foam bass traps that can be purchased online, just gotta look them up.

Final_Slap

But that's more appropriate for home cinema or music production. A foot hammering on a kick drum will send waves through the building.

gerdsandwhey

I used to shove pillows in the kick to dampen it lol

Depraved_Sinner

That was always my go-to. Worked pretty well and the family complaints were minimal

Chickensandcoke

I’d roll up a sleeping bag

HAL-Over-9001

My dad's a drummer and always had a blanket or two in the bass drum when playing his acoustic set at home or practice.

insertwittynamethere

There are pads for the kick drum. I used to use them when living in a townhouse complex. It's not as fun and definitely is a different feel, but it's definitely possible. They make them to cover al the drums as well as pads for cymbals, etc. It will also improve your accuracy when making hits by focusing you to hit the pads directly on cymbals for precision playing. It also gives you the need to work a little harder to get the same bounce effect when hitting a drum head v. these pads, so will improve your control going around the set when you're actually playing them without pads.

[deleted]

[удалено]

insertwittynamethere

Maybe price? Those things can be pretty expensive compared to a cheaper drum set, at least for the better ones with the mesh-style drums (I think they're quieter and a better feel to it than the hard rubber ones).

Chrisxy

Rockwool panels are the solution.

Lichcrow

I bought 4 squares of foam to put under my set and it really helps dampening a bit through the floor. Then some cardboard egg boxes on the walls and a bit of scrap rugged textiles i got from free to use as drapes falling from the ceiling and i got myself a pretty muted room

OldSweatyGiraffe

Stuff the kick w/ blankets.

throwawaysarebetter

All bassy sounds do that, people mostly just have high tolerance for it.

fltpath

a drummer with a 3.7 GPA ?!?!?! you wont hear a thing from that kit!

Lady_Scruffington

What's the joke? How can you tell if the stage is level? Drool comes out of both sides of the drummer's mouth.

ditto_ditto__

Raised on a stage would help this

tvtv3323

Some sort of riser for the drumset, yeah. To keep the bass frequencies from transmitting directly into the flooring.

vh1classicvapor

You need more insulation or "SheetBlok" to cut down the noise to the outside. The foam is more to reduce reverb / reflections in the room itself, but doesn't offer much in the form of reducing noise outside the room.

Quite_Bitter_Being

That's called sound treatment. Soundproofing requires building a new structure. All foam will do is stop reflections in that room.

pedantic_cheesewheel

*Damping, sound can’t get wet.

cwryoo21

Ew I bet it would sound so gross if it could

RyeBread3592

m o i s t s o u n d

unonameless

Did you know speaking moistly is illegal in Canada?

fltpath

you can put a muffle on each head and the cymbals... [https://www.amazon.com/Practice-Drumming-Rubber-Silencer-Reduction/dp/B07SRC3CTD](https://www.amazon.com/Practice-Drumming-Rubber-Silencer-Reduction/dp/B07SRC3CTD) Golden!

SillySundae

Doesnt do anything except make it sound better in the room. To sound proof a room like that you build a room inside a room. New floor, new ceiling, new walls. You need an air gap filled with sound absorbing material. You basically need to be in a bubble in that room. It's impressive when done correctly, though. I went to uni at a place that had an entire orchestra hall sealed off. You could barely hear a whisper from the outside.

Ecopilot

They make pads that go on top of the heads and cymbals that can greatly dampen the sound while still feeling decent to allow for relatively quiet practicing. Alternatively they should definately have looked into an electronic set. They used to suck but have gotten impressively good and are virtually silent.

PremeuptheYinYang

Everyone in here is talking about dampeners on the heads or metal and/or electronic kits. Truthfully that will work but both of those are old/dated methods that *kinda* work. They feel wrong to play tho. Honestly get that kid a set of silentstroke heads or mesh drum heads, you can even get silentstroke cymbals that are meant for quiet playing. In the modern era drummers have a few more options to keep the neighbors happy. Personally-I just tell everyone to leave and start smashing…something something forgiveness instead of permission idk

Final_Biochemist222

A music room in my school is on the top floor and sometimes you can the banging from the room directly under and around, even with the egg cartons and foams

A_Boring_Man

Green glue. You’re welcome.

jaymole

i always assumed these are all just fake ads for jaja tequila

AffectionateFig9277

Serious question, is that brand pronounced “Ha Ha” or “Ja Ja”?

Rottedhead

In spanish we type the onomatopoeia of laughing as "jaja". So it is pronounced "Ha ha" to resemble the sound of laughing

AffectionateFig9277

Thank you for the answer!

ryuen56

Props to neighbor for being so respectful!

rypher

What would be more respectful would be not getting a drumset in the first place.

lilsebastian-

Not to the kid.

regular_gonzalez

1 kid vs a dozen neighbors 🤔

Tornado547

It depends on whether the kid wants to play or just make noise. If the latter, then yeah. If the former, you're crushing the kids dreams and depriving them of the ability to make music which is one of the most important things a human can do just for the sake of some quiet which is bad. I would probably ask the kid that anything that can be done on a practice pad is done on a practice pad but outside of that let the kid play. And the fact the kid got straight As for it tells me its the former.

Etere

It was also a deal they made with their kid. You don't really want to back out on a deal, when your kid made such an effort for it.

CorgiMonsoon

There are electric drum sets with headphones.

lilsebastian-

Yep! That’s a great plan as well!

Dandanoid123

pass_nthru

as someone whose older brother got a full kit while we still shared a bedroom…i could have started drinking years sooner than i did….but he’s a professional musician (not just drums, damn prodigy) now so i guess there’s that

ImReverse_Giraffe

That line alone would buy a lot of patience from me. Also the hact that I'm usually at work between 3-7 so it really wouldn't bother me much.

Sea-Independence6322

If it makes you feel better, this is so clearly fake. Lotta people falling for it, though

JustToDownvoteYou28

Please don't use homophobic terms, even if you do censor it with asterisks. The kid's sexuality has no bearing on this issue regardless.

SnooDoodles7962

If that is where your thoughts first went to, that's on you. Not on me.

JustToDownvoteYou28

Are you not allowed to say fucker?

Bad bot

I think the censored word is "fucker"

ManitouWakinyan

As we all know, only gay people f***

EDDYBEEVIE

How is being a f**ker being homophobic though ? His parents using a swear word to describe their child has no basis on the kids sexuality.

Davin537c

he though it was the long form of f*g because he clearly didnt read he letter

pbharadwaj

Wtf is wrong with saying fucker? If you see something else, that's on you, not OP. Idiot.

Shady_Jezus

It's kinda shitty of you to put your thoughts in other people's mouths. And also, kinda homophobic to always think that way and look for how to instert that word in to every conversation you can. You should consider to take a rest from the internet for a while

Holyscroll

Use more emojis, that may help.

SatisfactionDull

You are a moron, lol. Edit: or English isn’t your first language. The starred out part was clearly the word fucker

WhiteChocolatey

I’m pretty sure he’s saying “fucker” rather than faggot. Like almost 100% sure. It is also my belief that he’s probably quoting the pictured text OP provided. If my instincts serve me.

electronic drum kit. Problem solved

BeraRane

I hope they work 9-5 in an office with a commute because 4 hours of drums daily is going to quickly turn neighbourly relations sour...

heatobooty

Why post obvious fake crap like this here. Even worse it’s an ad.

Cremageuh

Electronic drum kit?

vh1classicvapor

Those are good to some extent, but they don't quite feel the same as real drums. I would recommend electronic and a practice pad for a beginner though. Many people sell their electronic drum kits for under $500 because they just want to get rid of them, but they need a speaker too. Real drum kits are often near $1k for a starter set.

Quite_Bitter_Being

A cheapo real drum kit can be found for about 300 used. Good ol CB brand is like 600 new, just replace the cymbals. Most people aren't buying sabians or zildjians for a beginner.

MP-aka-TheDoctor

You can use a pair of turtle beach headphones instead I agree they don't feel the same as regular drums but there's also been times i wanted to record at 3am when I was in high school. The electric set was perfect for that and I loved it

RyanRiggsMusic

Practice heads will solve 80% of the problem, but the tequila should help handle the rest

35goingon3

Don't some people put acoustic foam in the drums under the heads to muffle it a bit? Had a neighbor who I helped set something like that up for (asked all on his own, *before* pissing everyone off, cool kid) and I thought maybe it was a common thing.

RyanRiggsMusic

Foam is the more practical solution, but practice heads are literally mesh, and make little sound. I prefer using foam mutes so you can still hear what drum you’re hitting, but in terms of sound deadening, perforated heads are more effective

35goingon3

Makes sense. I don't know much about it, just that when a kid asks me to help build him something to avoid pissing off the neighborhood I'll get behind the project. :)

K0monazmuk

Yeah good luck with that!

KillYT187

Lol! The fact that they tried to pass off giving you cheap ass The Chainsmokers Tequila as a favor is an even bigger insult…

Lounginghog64

This is how you neighbor.

zhemer86

“Are you fucking kidding me” - my wife after reading this note

CloudyArchitect4U

They make silent drumsets where they wear headphones.

ScoobertDoubert

Should have signed with "Kindest regrets"

SpaceXBlaze

Electric drum set w/ headphones?

sunnymag

lame. If noise is an issue, the parents should get him an electric kit. SMH

Glum-Animator2059

Jokes on them I’m a raging alcoholic next thing you know I’m banging on their wall from 7am to 3pm

tryingtodefendhim

They have practice pads for this reason.

[deleted]

Hopefully OP doesn't WFH and need to zoom between those hours 😐

stealth_mode_76

Lol no. Electric kits exist for these types of situations.

Yuuya_kizami

I love how it starts formal and then "the fucker pulled it off lol"

mudkripple

Funny story but probably not real 🙃. This is the tequila brand of the FuckJerry media goobers (of Fyre Fest fame), and they have already posted a dozen other ads disguised as memes. It must be really really bad lol.

[deleted]

Lol a bottle of wine isn’t gonna soothe what coming

Denslayer

As a drummer , this in unacceptable and rude. Drums are over 100db . I’d raise hell and tell them to get a electronic kit

taka_282

At the point that you're spending $600 for an acoustic drumset though, why not spend the extra $100 and get an electric one which not only has different noises you can do but, paired with headphones, makes a lot less noise?

Annie0minous

Best neighbours ever.

Clell65619

The secret for this is an electronic drum kit with a headphone jack. That worked for me with my youngest. He practiced for three years to be good enough to play drums for a very bad band. The discovery that drummers rarely have groupies brought peace to my house.

FarRice851

I think I'd spontaneous kill myself 🤣😂

OddAtmosphere420

Love this. It takes a village, and apparently, some tequila.

GeneralLynx3

An electronic drum set would have been better than an actual one. Then he could pull in headphones and drum away, plus (since they’re expensive) you can buy piece by piece. Keep the kid motivated.

3.7 GPA and practicing from 3 to 7? At least it wasn’t a 3.9… those two hours saved are a blessing.

Coresnell

Thats good tequila too.

UwUGamer84

i bet the tequila wont last a week

IntraspeciesJug

There are pads to put over the drums to suppress noise as well as drumpad kits that he can hook up to / customize and have it all go to headphones. Then, when at school, he can rock out to his heart's content. But good on them for following through and offering everyone within earshot some relief.

OrangeZig

They should get an electric drum kit

Volnas

They could buy him electric drums, so he could use headphones.

eeeeeeeeEeeEEeeeE6

Boi if you don't slam a tequila shot everytime he starts practicing, are you even a human

AssAaasin

Bruh why didn't his neighbour just call or meet. Who writes a letter lol.

Letharos

This is pretty sweet, tbh. Great parents for letting their son pursue a passion after hard work and great neighbors for giving a heads up. Also free booze. Edit: I can only imagine what my poor neighbors went through. No heads up. Just one day they see some kid somehow unloading a 6x12 cab out of their backseat of their 88 Ford Taurus and a Hughes & Kettner Warp 7. Another day they see me unloading a 5 piece Tama drumkit from the same car and tons of hardware. My part-time jobs went to three places. Cigarettes, entertainment, and Instruments. Each time the noise of my practicing just flowed down the streets. I had a great family that really helped indulge my passion for music. I'm lucky. They would chip in small amounts when they could. We didn't have much. I had a basement and things I wanted to write.

Financial-Opinion334

Props to the parents for contacting the neighbors, and being understanding about it

mankymonk

Two words- electric drumkit. Source: drummer for 20 years. Not silent, but anything is quiet compared to an acoustic.

longbrodmann

It's really funny the parent called their son "fxxxer" even in this letter.
