Chidi as Reed Richards... "Oh boy I just know this villain wants to kills us cuz I drank almond milk"

demadtekneek

Doom MCU origin confirmed

mindhypnotized

I think he would do very well in this role! But based on his previous work, he strikes me as the type of actor who enjoys doing smaller, quirky, indie-type films. I would be surprised if he wanted to commit to the decade-long major franchise headliner starring role. I would be quite happy to be proven wrong on this, though! Maybe at least give us a quick look at him in this role in the context of some alternate multiverse situation.

ccReptilelord

Perhaps, but taking a role in the MCU has something really beneficial to someone that prefers small indie films: money. Make a few million per appearance as an MCU lead, then they're not needing big paychecks from a real indie production. Plus, look at someone like Benedict Cumberbatch, he's playing a significant character in the MCU, but it's been six years in between his title films with a few cameos in between. Not a massive time constraint.

Dragon_Bench_Z

> *he strikes me as the type of actor who enjoys doing smaller, quirky, indie-type films* MCU comes a knocking with this type of role most actors are jumping on it. Generational changing money and fame at his finger tips

elgrandorado

Even top tier actors like Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Salma Hayek have been jumping on board because the money/experience combo is too good to turn down.

IAmActionBear

You know, he would make a great Reed Richards. I think based on his TV roles, I think he could play a scientist first, hero second sort of guy very well. He would also be just annoying enough too, lol

crackyzog

Yeah but that's because everyone hates moral philosophy professors.

Scartanion

Pretty cool. Only thing missing are his grey temples

PeterQuillsWalkman

Yeah those just make reed richards ‘REED RICHARDS’ yanno

KingRhoamsGhost

I’m not sure why but grey temples are a must for me. I don’t care what race you make him, you could make him a woman for all I care. But you gotta have the grey temples.

Den_Set_590

They’re there but very subtle and faint

kyewen9

I wasn’t sure if I was seeing things or not

MarvelPugs

If he’s black then are grey temples really a problem?

GuiltyEidolon

Character defining traits and appearances aren't necessarily tied to a character's race. Richards being black doesn't mean he can't have his signature silver temples.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GuiltyEidolon

It's literally not his signature, so no.

tershialinee

Nah, he’s too indecisive.

Fishyhead81

Your point being?

Redsigil

That's a Stretch Edit: Just to be clear, this is a pun. I think the casting is great. Stretch is what The Thing calls Reed Richards

kissofspiderwoman

Glad this isn’t the LOTR sub.

hardgeeklife

WE WANT BEARDED WOMEN, DAMMIT

hatecopter

I can't believe anyone honestly thought that was going to happen.

hardgeeklife

Can't speak for others, I just like saying it to make people laugh

Salnder12

I actually didn't think of this casting but I absolutely love it

Background_Sea9798

I couldn’t see it at first, but I really like it

UpfrontSnow1305

With Kristen Bell as Sue Storm. Sign me up.

TheElMart

He's very good in Midsummer as a dick-ish academic. He's definitely got the range.

WhiteNegroSpectacle

Fantastic Forehead

ThKitt

Big brain, big forehead.

WhiteNegroSpectacle

Hydrocephalus begs to differ

[deleted]

maybe he should be modok instead lol

door_to_nowhere_

In spider-gwens universe Reed is a black kid

vfoster

Wow! Way to think outside the box! I kinda like the idea...

cavern0us

God please no

MacChezz

Why not? Reed Richards doesn't need to be white, his race isn't tied to his character

Geronuis

Nobody mentioned race but you homie

DeninjaBeariver

Agreed, miles should be white in the mcu /s

going2leavethishere

Agreed next Black Panther should be Asian /s

Milesware

I like how both of you have to add /s explicitly so that people won't straight up strawmanning you

going2leavethishere

It’s cause people suck and don’t get that someone spent years developing the backstory of a character and the effects that society has if the race is change. If you have a billionaire playboy philanthropist who is white and is rich off the company your father built. Your are going to what just erase the systemic racism that follows that character because it’s considered “woke” to have another ethnicity play that character. Give me a new character with roots. It’s always why I thought it was weird that they were pushing Black Panther over Miles Morales. More young black kids could relate to a kid from the Bronx then they can to an African country that doesn’t exist.

yourfavoriteyear2020

the funny thing is if you didn’t put the /s you’d get tons of upvotes

CETERAZz

That’s just not true, sorry. If it was the other way around people would say it’s racist because a white person plays a black character

greetedworm

1: there are a hell of a lot more white characters than non-white characters so making a non-white character white is a bigger deal. 2:For a lot of black characters, their race is a part of their character like Black Panther. There are some examples of white characters where that's the case as well like Steve Rodgers or Magneto (his Jewish ethnicity).

jscummy

Mostly because most of the nonwhite characters have their race as a big part of their character. Black Panther has to be black, but Hawkeye or someone could be whatever race imo. There's a few characters where being white makes the most sense like Tony or Thor but a lot of characters its not a big deal

CETERAZz

Characters that are literally created and DRAWN white, are white. It’s as simple as that. Has nothing to do with racism.

jscummy

I think it's limiting to just go for who looks the most like the character. Samuel L Jackson has done a great job with Fury for example. Sometimes switching things up makes for a more interesting take on the character.

CETERAZz

No but you guys want a person of color to play a character that is white just to switch it for diversity. You literally reduce them to their skin color in that moment. It doesn’t make most people less racist because a black person plays a white character. It makes people more racist because it’s just obvious why it got changed.

jscummy

Thats not at all what I'm saying. I'm saying that if an actor of a different race can give a compelling performance and it doesn't otherwise interfere with the story, it makes no sense to exclude them because the character was drawn differently.

greetedworm

> It makes people more racist because it’s just obvious why it got changed. If changing the skin color of a fake person makes someone racist than they were definitely racist already

Milesware

Tell that to Trudeau

cavern0us

I didn’t say anything about it being because he’s black. Congrats on playing yourself.

reyknow

People automatically assume you are racist if you disagree with this and prefer comic accuracy.

ozydandias

Kang is a white guy in the comics with a blue visor from his helmet. I don't think the MCU cares about accuracy in that regard (nevermind the changes to characters in Eternals).

[deleted]

[удалено]

edibletwin

Kang is literally a relative of Reed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

chemicologist

Exactly

tnsxpm

i have blood cousins whiter than anyone in this thread . duck dynasty white . stop tryna get black actors to play white characters & start *creating* black characters for them to play. 🤦🏾‍♂️ it would have to be an alternate universe reed & thats fukin dumb for mcu reed to be a variant

yourfavoriteyear2020

i don’t care that you’re a piece of crap

sicassangel

Who says descendants have to be exactly the same race 1000 years from now? There’s hardly any genetic relation after like 3 generations

Rumblesnap

Being a POC doesn’t make you right about this one chief

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rumblesnap

Opinions can be wrong lol

yourfavoriteyear2020

piece of crap?

BigChung0924

kang is probably getting the comic accurate costume, just later down the line

reyknow

Kang is a not that popular. Same with heimdall, the ancient one, nick fury, some of the eternals, etc. They can change and alter and combine the minor not-so-popular characters all they want because people trust marvel and feigi. But making big changes to popular characters like what they did to fox's fan4stic just reeks of incompetence, lack of confidence on the source material, and manipulation by someone who knows nothing of the comics.

DeninjaBeariver

Not arguing against you, but nick fury was black in the ultimate comics

reyknow

let me clarify, i was talking about the 616 white nick fury. also, when they made ultimates they made a deal with sam jackson to use his likeness but he gets first refusal in any future movies.

jscummy

Is Reed's whiteness an important part of the character? That's what really matters

reyknow

How dumb are you? If he is a major character, then they should copy as much as much they can if not all from the source material. You know why everyone got excited when they first announced RDJ as Tony Stark? Because he looked exactly like his comicbook counterpart. And the alcohol abuse but its coincidental.

jscummy

Plenty of dudes that look like the character that would be terrible casting choices. Some aspects of appearance are crucial to the character, some aren't

reyknow

Appearance is as crucial as casting chops when it comes to A list characters because the source material and the movie are both visual mediums.

elgrandorado

Many people weren’t excited about RDJ as Tony Stark. His roles in blockbuster properties had stalled to the point that both Jon Favreau and Terrence Howard fought for him to get the role. Execs were afraid of his titular involvement. Fans were also apprehensive seeing his issues with drug abuse. It seems you have a wildly different interpretation of what happened in 2006.

reyknow

maybe to movie nerds, but comic nerds were ecstatic when they released the first photos of him with the moustache. They even got the addictive personality and womanizing part right.

wastedmytwenties

These characters were written over half a century ago, the world has changed, the racial make up of cities like NYC has changed dramatically, why does the MCU need to pretend the past few decades haven't happened for the sake of super-accuracy?

reyknow

Because thats how stan lee and jack kirby and the other golden age writers made them. If you only want characters thats the same color as you because somehow you cant relate if their from a different race, then make a new characters.

greetedworm

I guarantee that if they made up a bunch of new major characters who were POC to be in movies the outrage would be the same, people would just be angry that they made new characters instead of that they changed a superficial part of an existing character.

reyknow

Oh come on. If you are going to assume people will be mad because theyre black and not because the fact that theyre new, then maybe you assume that every person who disagree with you is racist.

greetedworm

Im not saying everyone would be mad because the new character is black, but people would still be mad about it and that's my point. Personally, I would much rather Marvel make entirely superficial changes to existing characters than them create brand new characters who would actually change the story.

Worldly-Campaign1585

This comment reeks of white fragility.

reyknow

Im asian, you racist.

Worldly-Campaign1585

Okay 😭😭😭😭😭😭

tigolebities

What does skin color have to do with accuracy? As long as the character is portrayed the same and fits the larger narrative of the MCU I couldn’t care less if he is black.

reyknow

You realize comics and movies are visual mediums right? If we are translating a radio show into a movie, then by god do what the hell you want with how they look as long as they sound the same.

Worldly-Campaign1585

Yea but it’s not translating it’s adapting and that’s what a lot of these “fans” don’t seem to understand. All these movies, shows, and whatever the fuck are “interpretations” and “adaptations” not “translations” meaning creative liberties can and should be taken to adapt said story depending on a variety of factors, and if one of those factors is choosing someone with a different skin color who cares as long as the story is handled and adapted with respect and care.

reyknow

Yeah and fox' fan4stic is the most succesful and beloved marvel movie of all time.

Kaoulombre

If you can’t **see** why it’s an issue with accuracy maybe you don’t have enough brain cells to understand any of this anyway

tigolebities

I’m gonna laugh so hard when they cast a poc and it pisses all you racists off. I’ll make sure to save this and come back so I can remind you you’re an ass hole.

[deleted]

banjofitzgerald

He’s actually a pretty great dramatic actor as well. I’ve seen him in other projects that have minimal comedy and he always kills it.

AerialAce96

No just no

MacChezz

Why not? Reed Richards doesn't need to be white, his race isn't tied to his character Also don't say wOke fOrcE pOc RePrEseNTaiOn as your response to this

[deleted]

Considering how shit the previous ff movies have been it would be wise to play it ‘safe’ this time around and not make any unnecessary changes to the characters like one movie did.

greetedworm

If they make Reed black and the movie flops it will 100% not be because Reed is black.

[deleted]

Yep I agree. I didn’t say that though.

gamerguy55007

I’ll be blunt. I wasn’t happy with Johnny storm being black and when the movie flopped. I figured it was that. But I saw the movie. Like actually saw it. Michael B Jordan stole the show and the movie actually sucks cause of the writing….. not cause of Johnny storm being black

[deleted]

Good point. The movie definitely didn’t flop because of that as Michael is world class in most things he’s in. My original point didn’t state otherwise though.

gamerguy55007

My point is even if The FF remake fox did played it “safe” but not making “unnecessary” changes. It still would had flopped if it had the same script . The story really lacked. Act 1 was the only good act of that film it falls after act 2 . Regardless if Johnny was white or black

[deleted]

Exactly I'm not arguing that at all. My point is that considering how each FF live-action adaption has ranged from mediocre to shit it would be best to keep things comic accurate instead of taking any creative liberties to ensure this time around things are done right and the movie is received well.

MacChezz

'Playing it safe' by not casting a black actor for a role that doesn't need to be tied to race? Reed Richards can be black end of story, it does not need to be soley tied down to the original comic book source material Also you saying that because of Johnny Storm being black was unwise in the previous ff movie is a statement in itself

[deleted]

You seem to be unaware of the world we live in. People don’t like race swapping of iconic characters especially ones that haven’t been done justice in live action. The wise thing to do would be to keep things comic accurate this time around but hey we will see what happens.

Chris4477

Where did they say anything about Johnny Storm? Bruh you all up and down these comments basically saying the same thing getting all super defensive. This whole post is horseshit bait anyways, you can’t disagree without being attacked for being racist so it’s not exactly a great start for discussion, is it? I think in the same vein that we don’t need to gatekeep race/gender (the MCU has already taken liberties with many characters) we also don’t need to encourage arbitrarily changing characters just for the sake of appealing to specific audiences.

Kaoulombre

Woke force POC representation

numberofpi

I can't say I know who this guy is, but I support any cast that isn't John Krasinski and Emily Blunt for the 1000th time. Also nothing against John and Emily, just tired of seeing the same fan cast over and over.

yourfavoriteyear2020

i would say tom kenny would be a good role but i’m only saying that because of his voice

Jan6thSurvivor

Nah. I want the fantastic four to look accurate to comics. I really like this actor from the good place and wouldn’t mind him as another role. Honestly would’ve loved him as bill foster

Nimporian

I was just watching the good place, how in the world did I not recognize him?

PirateBeany

He's not worried enough. (Also that spacesuit makes him look quite bulky.)

Cambionr

Oh wow, I totally missed it too.

runealex007

As long as he has grey temples that’s about as comic accurate as you need to be. Everything else about him is personality.

Jan6thSurvivor

Nah, mr fantastic is a white dude. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting an adaptation to look like the source material

runealex007

Personally, I see most comic characters as personalities for bodies to fill. Character design is very important, but there’s nothing visually inspiring about his whiteness, just his hair. Usually race gets tied to character design when it really effects their story, like Luke Cage or Black Panther. We need more super-powered characters that can just be cool for who they are instead of vessels for commentaries on race.

Jan6thSurvivor

That’s true, but we have those, such as Monica rambeau who have already been introduced, plus many who haven’t been brought in yet, like brother voodoo and bishop

runealex007

Blade would fit the category as well, I think. Although I don’t think “we have those” is a valid reasoning to race-keep a character. I feel like we only lose out on potential when we limit portrayals based on skin tone. There’s characters I would generally agree their whiteness plays into their character design, Peter Parker being one, but I think the pompous stretchy scientist that is Reed Richards just needs those grey temples to make him who he is.

Milesware

We should cast everyone as Japanese anime girls

Kaoulombre

This ain’t it chief

gymlol1586

No way, his forehead way too big Maybe modok

[deleted]

that’s cool man but the character should be the same as the comicbook counterpart.

MicooDA

I assume you’re only talking about appearance because almost every MCU character has a different backstory/personality from their comic counterpart

ChosenUsername420

What part of the story of the Fantastic Four is changed in even the slightest bit by a black Reed Richards?

[deleted]

just my preference not against it though.

teetaps

If you’re not against it then why did you protest

ChosenUsername420

Ah, okay.

KingRhoamsGhost

Not really. This isn’t the same timeline as the comic timelines so it’s not at all a requirement. Did we learn nothing from alligator Loki?

ThKitt

Honestly I think that’s a fantastic side-effect of the “variant” concept. Shut down all the racists and “source material” purists.

going2leavethishere

Cool then there’s a variant of black Peter Parker and Asian Blade right?

ThKitt

Probably, there’s a Black Loki.

EnbyBunny420

When it comes to accuracy, the race of the character should be your last concern. Especially in an infinite multiverse.

ChosenUsername420

> When it comes to accuracy, the race of the character should be your last concern. Nah, for lots of characters race is an important part of their stories. But for most white characters it really isn't.

That_Guy333

You do realize that Kang is black in the MCU, right? It would only make sense that his ancestor is too.

DrJekyl_n_MrWrldwide

I'm not for or against black Reed, but isn't Kang like many years down the line a descendant of Reed? The entire family tree doesn't have to be black just because Kang is, he could be mixed for all we know.

[deleted]

that’s what I’m saying the guys comment doesn’t make sense.

[deleted]

look man all i did was state my opinion don’t know why everyone’s so pressed.

Cheezwizjesus

I would totally be down for this. Might even make me Like Reed Richards.

D0NT_F0RGET

This is actually a great shout!

TheGoldenPyro

Nope, he is anywhere close to reed richards

MandoBandano

That's ridiculous casting.

wealthedge

1. Love dude. Great on Good Place. Shredded out of his mind too. 2. Love race bending / gender bending characters with the right actor / character. 3. HOWEVER, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE DON’T FUGG WITH THE RICHARDS. Kraz / Blunt or no one, please. PLEASE.

Fishyhead81

I can’t see Krasinski as Reed Richards. Yeah, he has that family man element to him but other than that, I can’t see it. He doesn’t come off as that kind of genius to me.

wealthedge

Well, some of the artists at Marvel disagree. https://www.cbr.com/fantastic-four-mister-fantastic-john-krasinski/ They’re already drawing Reed Richards to look somewhat like Kraz. And he ALREADY played him a little in Jack Ryan. Kinda goofy, kinda badass, hella smart. That IS Richards. Plus ready-made Sue Storm with Blunt? C’mon, now. Perfect.

phantomsham

As long as read richards has the grey temples it doesnt matter who plays him

Stanky_Beard

But, he’s black?

[deleted]

Oh hell no please no, just let it be John Krasinski

[deleted]

And Hilary Duff as Dr. Doom

Den_Set_590

I can only see him as worrisome and neurotic kuz of the good place lol. Not the cool and collected reed richards

ChronoMonkeyX

I like it. I thought making Reed black would have been better than Johnny, and Harper can do the brainy guy in a crazy world easily.

Novawinq

Hell yes. Imagine him as Reed and Kristen Bell as Sue Edit: I’ve also wanted Adam Scott Reed with Elizabeth Banks Sue, and feel like Craig Robinson could be a great Ben Grimm

hislastname

And Manny Jacinto as Johnny Storm?

hyena142

I just wanna hear Ted Danson say it's clobbering time

Novawinq

Holy shit that actually is fantastic

thehonestyfish

Kamila's sister as Ben Grimm?

toe_6969

Jesus Christ not every show has to be imported into the movie. I like the idea of john Krasinski but putting everyone from the office in is just cringe and lazy. Not everything has to be the replica of the tv show. I loved the good place but Jesus Christ calm down

Novawinq

>calm down Take your own advice, friend lmao Kristen Bell and Elizabeth Banks have just been on my mind for Sue to begin with, tho yeah Emily Blunt would do well too

Magnus_Veritas

Duuude! Yes!!!

KingJonStarkgeryan1

How about no.

tnsxpm

wonder when black ppl gon start getting OG chars created for them instead of playing hand me down characters created 4 white ppl . “make the char black” mindset rather than “make a black char” . we never gon get shit like this 😴

TopKing63

Look, I like seeing my kind on the big screen in leading roles and portraying badass characters and all, but race swapping is lazy virtue signaling. If you're gonna cast us, put us in roles where the character is already black, or make a whole new one.

JessicaDAndy

To be honest, I have a whole Fantastic Four movie idea where Reed Richards is African American. Then I read the comments about comic accurate and my movie is not it. (Well sort of Earth-65). Then I remembered the four other Fantastic Four movies…

Irishman318

I see this and raise you Chidi as Hank McCoy

sorasprocket

Although an interesting thought, i just cant see Chidi playing Reed Richards

malcolmflex895

I like this a lot. Jason for Silver Surfer. Ted Danson Galactus.

Milesware

He's too short

BigChung0924

this is my fancast. i think he has the range to pull off both the warm family man and the cold, intellectual, occasionally douchey side of reed

KorugaranRattlesnake

He looks like The Leader.

Ok-Reporter-8728

I thought I was the only one who wanted him to play as reed :)

Remarkable-Read-1094

Make another of William Harper as Reed

stratuscaster

Yeah. Why not?
