Thanks everyone that has or plans to participate. This is our first time doing a survey like this. I'll keep the survey form up for a few more weeks.
The survey link was shared on multiple of Reddit's top marketing communities including this one.
Here's the link https://lookingformarketing.com/surveys/view/2022-state-of-marketing-survey-results
The plan is to do this again at the end of this year, same/similar questions so the data is easier to compare YoY.

This is cool! I would love to participate. there is already a state of marketing report though, I’ll find the link in a bit. Funny enough, the ‘20XX state of _insert tech here_ report’ actually was popularized by IBMs The State of Salesforce Report originally by Bluewolf, I was the marketing campaign manager on it for 2 years. Because it was used at Dreamforce since it’s inception, The older folks on my team were saying how so many companies have started popping up with ‘the state of’ reports. Just a weird history tid bit 🤓 .

Thanks, do you have a screenshot?

I hear you, it's a lot of data to really consume on mobile, best bet is to review it on desktop if you're going to do anything with other than scan. The survey doesn't collect any other identifying data, the first section, "About your org" is all that was asked. I just pushed an update that for the select dropdown to filter to b2b/b2c, it wasn't showing up great on mobile.
404 error
Fixed, thanks for the heads up
Lots of graphs have more bars than labels, which makes them uninterpretable
Thanks for the feedback, please use a larger screen, this is a lot of data to do anything but browse on mobile.
It seems to be entirely dedicated to advertising. Have I overlooked something? Did it also address issues of placement and strategy?
You might have missed something. There are sections for Marketing & Organization Priorities, Content Marketing, Social Media Marketing, etc.
It seems to be entirely dedicated to advertising. Have I overlooked something? Does it also address placement and strategy issues?
I only had a quick scan but I could not see all the data because I am on a small screen. Looks like it’s only focusing on promotion. Did I miss something? Did it also cover positioning, planning, other practices like relationship marketing, segmentation…?
Yea, it was a struggle to show all the data clearly on smaller screens. See the note at the top of the page. Yes, I believe a lot of those questions have some answers. If you see something you think should be in the next survey, please feel free add your ideas.
such a great survey, thanks
Sad that direct mail isn't even on the list...We get 4x on ad spend all day every day.
Hmmm, you're right. Somehow I forgot to add direct mail as an option. Thank you, will be there for the next one.
B2B or B2C?
B2C
I would agree. In some categories, direct physical mail is making a comeback. Especially when tied with attribution, like call tracking.
especially when you can get near 100% open rate with personal sealed envelopes.. handwritten looking fonts. No rules or competition in the envelope...
Super interesting! I'd love to participate in the next one! What tool do you use for surveys?
Custom built, happy to share the tech stack if interested.
Nice survey
