This can return a LOT of lands.

RealityPalace

I'm punching the numbers into my calculator and it's telling me it can return ALL of the lands.

Morganelefay

Titania is already salivating.

Korwinga

Applejacks time, let's go. For those that don't know, applejacks is a fringe playable legacy deck centered around using [[orcish lumberjack]] to ramp into powerful 4-5 drop cards on turn 2, most notably, [[titania, protector of argoth]]. It's wildly inconsistent, but a lot of fun to play.

So I had no idea what either of those cards did and just looked at the fetcher links. That looks so fun lmao

KosstDukat

Omg that looks hilarious and I want to play it so much right now 😂

TheGreatSmeffaroo

this might actually be able to do some work in that deck, as it can bring back cards like [[veteran explorer]].

MTGCardFetcher

Whistela

And that give me a happy face.

Slant_Juicy

Given the lack of acorn, I'm surprised there's not a built-in exclusion for MV 0.

MeepleMaster

The fact that this costs five probably prevents it from being a concern in legacy/vintage

ThatGuyOnTheReddits

This will definitely be brewed with.

Eltre78

"We didn't expect people to use this card to grab lands" -Oko's designer, probably

Justnobodyfqwl

It's really interesting comparing this to \[\[Splendid Reclamation\]\]. SR is cheaper and requires less set-up for explosive turns, especially with landfall triggers- it's much easier to take advantage of many many lands coming in at once than it is to take advantage of having many land cards in hand, even with multiple land drops a turn. There are absolutely land decks that want a lot of cards in hand, but also SR has to go through standard and this doesnt. This is also instant speed and, most importantly, also has all that silly little text about grabbing other cards too.... This is a really fun comparison, honestly. I think it just comes down to "SR had to go through standard and is more explosive for a majority of land decks, but PoD is stronger overall because it serves multiple purposes and is balanced for Eternal and being reliant on random chance to take advantage of its primary purpose."

Financial-Charity-47

I mean, splendid reclamation putting the cards into play is pretty much the entire point.

Sethid777

Yes, it's a must-have for my \[\[Borborygmos enraged\]\]. Not only returns the lands, but has a high chance for returning all the 3 mana "Search for 2 lands and put them in your hand"-cards

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

I was also thinking about putting this in my Borborygmos Enraged deck

tomtom5858

It doesn't do the latter. The *total* mana value needs to be less than or equal to the result

Sethid777

Ohh, yeah, i didn't notice the first "total" there. Still could possible return me 1 or 2 of them or possible another "Return all your lands"-effect. Overall the instant-speed is more relevant for my deck, anyway.

tomtom5858

Indeed! Instant speed return of all of your lands is powerful enough. the average 7 mana of spells you get back is just gravy.

Fabulous_Ampharos

Well it puts the cards into your hand untapped, so technically correct?

Justnobodyfqwl

This is the most old school un-set card in the set: a terrible pun as the cherry on top of what is supposed to be a normal magic card but with a dice twist that is now entirely feasible in black border. (If you take Umbridge at the idea of old school un-sets being mostly feasible in black border now, go look at them again- Unglued especially)

stillnotelf

I am amused at the umbrage autocorrect. It makes me wonder if you are a Harry Potter fan and predictive text led you astray. (I agree about Unglued too FWIW)

Justnobodyfqwl

I've never read them before but I know the character- my auto correct DID turn it into Umbridge (with a capital U!) and I honest to god had the thought of "oh, did I spell it like the professor from Harry Potter?"

stillnotelf

You did. If you will pardon the atrocious pun...I will throw no shade at you for misspelling umbrage.

Esc777

Predictive text on iOS used machine learning sourced from…everyone that uses iOS. It’s one of those cases where the input is actually its own output. So if enough people are typing about Harry Potter it will capitalize what it thinks you’re typing. I find it invasive and stupid and completely going over board to make up for the fact text keyboards are shit on screens.

stillnotelf

I thought the predictions were personalized. My phone learns words I use a lot (pokemon names, names of pets and people in my life...it would be card names if i still played seriously). There are also so many twitter threads for stuff like "start a sentence with 'I went outside and' and then let it autocomplete" that all get different results, it must be partly user personalized?

Esc777

They are also personalized on top of the base level. But not *just* personalized, other peoples patterns at large affect yours which is annoying to me.

Leharen

> If you take Umbridge at the idea Don't you mean "Un-brage"?

Kopekemaster

ValerieVoir

A bit pricy, but this doesn't target, and can grab a ton at instant speed. Getting the average result 7 should set you up for a turn or two. You can get all of you fetches with it too, which is a nice bonus.

Seems appropriate that this card was created by John Mill-a-ton.

i want this in my landfall. i pay 3(G) for splendid reclamation. so 3(G)(G) for recursion and as many lands as i want is nice. i could also pair this with a free cast from Rishkar's Expertise

mooseman3

Keep in mind this puts them in your hand unlike Splendid Reclamation.

triggerscold

its true. but by the time im dropping splendid reclamation i can probably drop more than 1 land per turn so this can definitely be abused.

fremeer

This seems pretty strong. Gets back all the 0 mana stuff like lands, baubles, lotuses, suspend cards and some utility artifacts. But 5 mana probably limits it to commander.

bomban

Or legacy/vintage with LED shenanigans.

Rufus_Reddit

Yeah, it could pull a handful of 0 cost mana rocks (LED, Lotus Petal, and Mox Opal are all easy graveyard fodder) and Infernal Tutor for a total mana cost of 2, and more average rolls can also pull rituals. It looks like one of the more eternal-viable cards in the set to me.

bomban

And at least 1 land too. When I used to play getting stuck on 2ish lands was pretty common, so that feels relevant.

fremeer

2 mana more then yawgmoths will but can run a playset and cards don't get exiled. With the right combination of cards you could loop these pretty easily to get a storm of 10+ very reliably. But getting the right combination might be hard.

bountygiver

Hell yeah one more instant regrowth that can hit instants for kalamax. (Currently there's only reap and once and future)
