How do u get mangohud display every cpu with the current speed and load?
In general MangoHud has a configuration file, like everything else:
Just create the needed folders and file, if don't exist.
Be careful about the letters, Linux is case sensitive.
> Be careful about the letters, Linux is case sensitive.
Does "A" look the same as "a" to you?! I don't think so.
If you are a longtime Windows user, you maybe developed the habit
to percieve everything is case insensitive.
You need to set MANGOHUD\_CONFIG=core\_load in Steam's startup options.
You can edit the config file by copying the content from here:
into a file set by a flag, eg:
I like to use GOverlay, it's nice and easy :)
yeah actually quite a few games im starting to suspect dont actually perform better in windows since they perform so well as it stands now (ex Deep Rock Galactic, which I'll add also uses DX12, Microsoft's graphics library)
Some games perform better in Linux for me
I didn't even know Microsoft was making Vulkan games, so nice of them to support open source rendering APIs! /s
this is DX12.
TIL Forza works on Linux.
if it wasn't for nVidia's miserable drivers i'd play the shit out of FH5 on Linux.
It runs pretty well on nvidia gpu for me (rtx 3080), 3440x1440 all maxed out, custom kernel, gamemode etc 72fps on windows vs 69 fps on Linux. 320pt on cpu rendering score on windows vs 390 pt on Linux ( Forza horizon 5 Benchmark)
Custom kernel... did you recompile with specific options or just to have a newer version that what your distro provides?
Tkg kernel, with custom config
"A gaming friendly custom kernel"
Thanks a lot, that's is new to me
weird. it always crashes on my Turing GPU (2060S).
the game loads just fine. it crashes like 5 minutes after i'm on the overworld.
The problem isn’t nvidia driver, linux or so. Also amd user are experiencing that. See on github proton FH5 issue page. The fix for this problem is described in the above message. So test for yourself if you want. Linux isn’t plug and play…
I'm not going to reinstall. my internet is way too bad to do that.
just did this, (RTX 2060) still crashes.
i do not know exactly what you mean by compatdata, but i have only done:
+ disabled pre-cache shader
+ uninstalled game
+ re-installed game
+ play game
do you want me to delete it and launch the game?
Of course 3080 is gonna play it well. The water is indeed wet.
Personally, it's a pretty useless comment because even on windows if you don't have a suitable gpu you can't play.
Roses are red violets are blue so just trash your gpu?
Go shit about your gpu somewhere else
Yes, it is.
I've just never had this experience, but see loads of complaints like this on reddit.
I've just never had problems. Modprobe nvidia and friends, kick off lightdm, play anything.
^([2080Ti here, but previously 980Ti then SLI 780s before that over the past 6 or so years])
I assume you're having a real issue but maybe not driver/gpu related?
E: Ahh I see, this specific title experiences issues with this hardware.
There's a thread/issue on Valves github specifically for this. It's a known issue, that the game has major problems with NVidia cards on Linux. Works without crashing/hanging on my Vega56 (but poor performance), but crashes within minutes on my systems with an GTX1070 and P520.
There are crashes for Nvidia Linux users on FH5, it's confirmed unfortunately
Nvidia's proprietary driver is fantastic. The problem with it is that it is closed source and as a result can bork when you upgrade your kernel. Once it's actually installed and working out performs very well.
bro is THAT a SUPRAAA?
Nah it's a BMW.
\*sprays glasses and wipes them with a cloth\*
IS THAT A SUPRA?
it's weird because for me, some games have up to a 40-50% performance impact. maybe it's just because i'm running nvidia
I guess Pascal or older?
Because pascal/older have hardware limitation that causes them to perform poorly with VKD3D, while e.g Ampere... does fine.
yep, pascal. been running a 1060 6GB since near its release but it's time for an upgrade now anyway so i'll be choosing amd
Yeah, no wonder you have such performance impact then
Anyhow, let me tell you one thing about AMD on Linux
It is legit like a fine wine. The longer you have it, the better things are
My RX 560 legit is working better than 1-2 years ago xD
Anyhow, I hope you will be able to buy the GPU at reasonable price, and that you will enjoy it :D
some games it's maybe as little as 5%, and other games it's as i mentioned up to 50%.
also i'm hoping so too! been kinda playing the waiting game with regards to the prices
It is slowly getting better for sure, especially... after the crypto crashes that have been there lately..
So lets hope the prices fall as fast as possible
Because I admit, while RX 560 is awesome for lil GPU, for certain games... it might not be sufficient anymore...
So I hope to upgrade eventually too
slowly but surely, these old cards are reaching the point where they aren't very good at all in modern games ;-;
Pascal cards are still pretty capable in newer titles.
my aim is 144 fps consistently since that's the refresh rate of my monitor. sure it can pull 60+ easy, but i would ideally like to get the full benefit of my monitor in newer games without dropping to the lowest settings.
another thing is 4k gaming which the 1060 just cannot do
Sure but the 1060 couldn’t do 4K even on release. It was never a 4K card. If you don’t mind turning the settings down a bit it will run most new games just fine.
I'm pretty confident that's not doing you any favors.
yeah, the nvidia drivers are pretty craptastic
I'm on a 1060 6gb too but the game freezes for me in freeroam.
What did you do?
i haven't played forza 5 on linux yet but the first thing that comes to mind is how much ram you have as well as what your cpu governor profile is set to. also you could try DXVK_ASYNC=1 in the launch options
Yep, fh5 runs pretty good on my linux laptop too, my problem is Xbox controller rumble doesn't work.
It does for me. I installed xone, not sure if it's because of that
Trigger rumble needs kernel and [SDL2](https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/blob/714502d3737d64d857460e38f4d5aee31d77b9fe/src/joystick/linux/SDL_sysjoystick.c#L1302) patch (simple copy/paste from LINUX_JoystickRumble) to work: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg77720.html
[(https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg77721.html), (https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg77722.html), (https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg77723.html),
My Xbox One controller also rumbles, but I haven't installed anything additionally for it.
Is this the steam version
Doesn't run on nvidia
I hope FH4 gets some attention too, that game is unplayable with it's crashes and slowdowns
Hail lord gaben for proton
Yeah, kind of sad. There are people that are stuck in the past and think that Tux Racer is the only playable game on Linux.
Every time I mention that I can play the latest AAA games and some even run better than on Windows they go in full denial lmao. They act like you just murdered their family.
I don't think it's disbelief. Most people just don't care about Linux at all and would rather run whatever platform is shipped with their computer and supported by the vendor. We need more steamOS-esque products (or just continued success of Deck) in the world if we want to get more people doing Linux gaming.
Does it really work that well? Last time I tried it, the experience was sub-optimal on my RX 590
I guess it depends on the GPU, on my Nvidia Pascal cards it constantly crashes, on my Vega56 it's stable but the performance is quite poor.
enable 4G decoding in bios, install mesa-git.
My UEFI has no such option, and mesa is at 22.1.1 which is pretty current if I'm not mistaken. In other games the performance is fine, just some DX12 games have quite poor performance (even worse than my GTX1070 for some reason).
Is there any future for gamepass to work on linux, i mean i cant afford to pay twice for games.
Really hoping they put game pass on steam so we can just run games via proton.
After all, WINE is not an emulator.
That's why it is so performant.
It's a credit to the wine guys and to the Proton/DXVK people that any game runs as well as Windows - and rather embarrassing that some games run faster.
I've been a Linux-only (at home) user since the late 90s. I hope games developers are taking note - not only is it a small burden to support Proton, but it is an escape door from Microsoft for games developers. Proton has the potential to change the game completely by becoming an open compatibility layer.
In case anyone hasn't realised yet, Microsoft is now moving to close the PC platform with the mandatory TPM (put very simply, a hardware dongle) which will lead to them blocking all software except via their store. You will no longer have a general purpose PC. You will only be allowed to do anything by Microsoft's permission.
Just a fancy locked down console.
If anyone's wondering... that's why Valve is doing this. To ensure that Steam can continue. If they don't, post-TPM Microsoft will impose a cut on anything via Steam and eventually squeeze it out of the market.
So your telling me Microsoft seen the apple success and profit and decided to go this path too?
Totally agree. I hope companies keep pushing vulkan. At least it's not closed off from the computing world.
Hey are you using the steam version or the Microsoft store version? I bought the Microsoft store version, afaik there is no way to run it on linux
Yeah there isn't
This is expected, when a game runs on Proton - most of the time it runs with better performance than on Windows.
It's not *unusual* for a game to run better on Linux through Wine/Proton, but it's seldom *expected*.
We've seen recently that results depend greatly on hardware details, and seemingly firmware options. It can be hard to guess why one Linux gamer sees great performance and another sees poor performance, even though it seems like their hardware is quite similar. I feel like there's a lot we're going to learn over the next couple of years about gaming workloads under Linux.
Dunno how I can get more performance than the majority considering my hardware is poorly supported on linux
Agreed, I'm only surprised because its Microsoft affiliated.
Must hurt that their games run better on Linux.
They probably don't care or are just thinking "Nice, more money".
this. years down the road Microsoft will probably just start using the Linux kernel and building windows on top (it'll save them a lot of money). Similar to how Apple built macOS on top of BSD.
macOS started over twenty years ago as a project to update NeXTStep slightly and give Apple a product to compete with NT, since their previous from-scratch efforts failed. NT was the first post-Unix system written in C, targeted at RISC chips.
It's more likely we're going to see more Linux compatibility in NT, given the WSL1 and WSL2 subsystems already there. But removing the `ntoskrnl.exe` would make it too easy for Linux to cut Microsoft out of the deal, just like Microsoft once cut out IBM and renamed their "portable OS/2 3.0" product into "NT".
Wait until you see there are a lot of games that run behind Windows, Proton isn't perfect and translating calls isn't always going to give you 100% performance
Yeah I have a couple of games that run slower, but other times I get 110% performance.
On par or better is more common in my experience these days.
That supra has the best ass in car design god damn
I was pleasantly surprised that it's a quite cool game. Had to set async on, a little stuttering. Looks beautiful graphic wise. 140 fps average on both my pc's with cap. Setting it to unlimited froze my pc.
People complained about frequent crashes at ProtonDB. Do you experiment any?
I have 20hrs put in this game on Linux. Not a single crash.
Awesome, I may give it a try.
I bought it a couple months ago and it didn't even start, so I refunded it. Did you do any tinkering or just straight install and launch?
I just installed and launched. I'm using regular Proton 7.0-2 as well. Not an unofficial build.
Nice, I take note, but jesus it's fucking expensive with the premium edition
do you have amd gpu or nvidia?
Dedicated AMD GPU. It's a laptop RX 5500M.
i was looking for a laptop to work with and play games on linux, but unfortunately they don't sell laptops with dedicated amd gpus here at all, only integrated (amd/intel) or dedicated nvidia. So am unsure if i get a cheaper laptop with amd igpu or if i pay more to have one with a dedicated nvidia card
"It's the same as Windows performance wise" is not science. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/oLOcPNO.png) is a clean install of Windows 10 PRO and [here](https://i.imgur.com/U05dvQC.png) is Fedora (36 KDE Wayland / XanMod/ Mesa-git).
4G Decoding - ON
RE-BAR - ON
Both to enable Smart Access Memory
Only 4G Decoding is ON and is enough to give access to the whole VRAM. Enabling RE-BAR causes stutters and was discussed in this subreddit.
Resizable bar is on by default for me and seems to work fine.
Strictly desktop speaking. We had a big discussion here and users did benchmarks.
Any way to get “Xbox parties” to work? I’ve been unable to play with my friends due to this, it shows them online but doesn’t allow me to join or create convoys
