Nope. The hardware has nothing to do with Microsoft. They just make the operating system. You have options for operating systems that will run on the hardware if you chose not to use Microsoft.

No. You're welcome to use a flavor of Linux or any other OS that you want that is not MS related if you want to. They don't even have to buy their software back from you, let alone someone else's hardware.

Well that's a good point. I made a mistake for a minute thinking Microsoft made the hardware. But what about the software? If you paid for the software and they make a change to your original agreement, why aren't you entitled to a refund if you disagree?
