It's certainly the best lockdown song I've heard. But is anyone gonna care about lockdown songs in 5, 10, 20 years? It's such a specific and weird set of circumstances giving rise to those feelings that I just don't see this song having staying power. Once the pandemic fades into memory (assuming there's not another one coming soon), is anyone gonna relate to the feelings he expressed in this song?
I guess you can see it that way, but "a thousand days alone" and "I ain't used to... seeing everybody's hand"... strike me as relics of a pretty specific time period.
I think the lyrics are vague enough that even though Jason wrote them about a specific period of time, the feelings resonate with people going through feelings of isolation / depression / anxiety. There are certainly times where I’m just wore out and out of shit to say by mid-morning lol.
1. Miles
2. Death Wish
3. Save the World
I'm surprised how popular King of OK and Volunteer are in this thread, probably my two least favorites on the album
I’m also surprised by the Volunteer love. I definitely like the song but clearly not as many as most on here! King of Oklahoma was a huge grower for me.
Started out:
1. King of Oklahoma
2. Middle of the Morning
3. Cast Iron Skillet.
A few weeks later it was:
1. When we were close
2. Miles
3. Volunteer
A few weeks later:
1. Strawberry Woman
2. This Ain’t it
3. If You Insist
Back to:
1. King of Oklahoma
2. Strawberry Woman
3. This ain’t it
Lol
This is why I love JI. All the songs on this album are great. I personally put Vestavia dead last but it’s still a very good song. Any three songs from this album is a defensible answer to this question.
1. This Ain’t It (baby how’d you end hereeeee)
2. Cast Iron Skillet (don’t drink n drive, you’ll spill it)
3. Middle of The Morning (and call them by their name)
1. When We Were Close
2. King of OK
3. Death Wish
4. Cast Iron Skillet
5. Save The World
6. White Beretta
7. This Ain’t It
8. If You Insist
9. Volunteer
10. Miles
11. Strawberry Woman
12. Middle of The Morning
13. Vestavia Hills
If you insist and save the world are tied at 1 and strawberry woman is third..in my opinion this is the only answer ha ha as ive listened to the album for weeks now
I looked through all and didn’t see this combo yet…
1. King of OK
2. Miles
3. Middle of the Morning
Love the love for King of OK. I saw ji400u in B’ham 9 days after weathervanes was released. I was amazed at how the crowd was already singing along to K of OK. After only 9 days. Moved me to tears. That song is special.
1. King of Oklahoma 2. If You Insist 3. Cast Iron Skillet Honorable mention to This Ain't It and When We We're Close

I never even considered it a lockdown song, considered it more about depression than anything else
I guess you can see it that way, but "a thousand days alone" and "I ain't used to... seeing everybody's hand"... strike me as relics of a pretty specific time period.
I think years down the road it will remind us all of how we felt during that time.
I think the lyrics are vague enough that even though Jason wrote them about a specific period of time, the feelings resonate with people going through feelings of isolation / depression / anxiety. There are certainly times where I’m just wore out and out of shit to say by mid-morning lol.
