I agree with the dog's commentary in the background
Don't have to be Doctor Doolittle to know it's saying "I'll stick around a *little* longer, but shouldn't you put down the camera and get the fire going?"
He's saying what we're all thinking.
Send the Nuke
Yeah the dog knows what's up.
Edit : for unintentionally funny typo.
Also the dog
Sorry, that’s not a dog, that’s me.
This is one of those situations when you really need 1000 hungry birds
This is one of those situations where 1000 hungry birds nope the fuck out. These spiders are hungry too.
Don't you guys remember the last war Australia involved itself in with birds?
Ah yes the great Emu war. Don’t fuck with birds
Ok then I’ll just throw a generic “kill them with fire” comment out there.
This is the one.
That's a weird way to spell nuclear warhead
This is one of those situations when you really need a flamethrower.
Why? The spiders are important to the ecosystem
Yes. Spiders are. But 20,000 spiders in one small area are not.
Yes they are. What, do you think they all teleported to that fence from miles around?
That many spiders were always in that vicinity. They were just hiding at ground level before.
Seriously, walk around outside at night (in certain parts of Australia) with a torch sometime. The grass in the torchlight will glitter like there are tiny multi coloured gems strewn all about. That's spider eyes, reflecting the light.
It's very pretty.
And that's just the ones that are looking at you.
Thank god I'm not Australian.
Or 100 cans of Raid
Goodbye, friend of Hagrid
When spiders die they just respawn in australia
We could spawn-kill them if not for the emus
game balance, people! instead of spawning them somewhere they won't die instantly, just add another class to switch to when you're getting spawncamped! it's not like we have fucking billions of species to choose from already
I wouldn’t want to torch them all but Knowing that 7 out of 10 worlds deadliest everything exists there…I’d seriously think about it.
They’re all Giant Huntsman aka spidey bros in Australia. Fantastic pest management and they’re both non-aggressive and non-venomous!
EDIT: As several others have pointed out, they’re Wolf Spiders, not Huntsman. I stand corrected and have sent back my Straya Card as pennance! Huntsman are still spidey bros though
Huntsman's have way longer/hairier legs, their bodies are much smaller vs their legs. These are more likely some kind of garden wolf spider.
No, lol. These are clearly wolf spiders. Not the huntsman I know but the aussie huntsman are larger and shaped differently.
But that’s still WAAYY too many of ‘em.
You know, I find myself agreeing with you for some traumatizingly horrifying reason
Except for that one spider who rushed a bunch of small dudes and yeeted them off the wall
* not huntsman
They are venomous,but it´s not a potent venom ;)
But are they poisonous?
No, they're venomous
But what if I ate one?
Then you would be a Blink 182 simile.
Hanz, grab the flammenwerfer
We're waaaay past that, sir. The napalm strike has already been called.
Yeah naa, can’t take any chances, just nuke the site from orbit.
You're right. It's the only way to be sure.
But that runs the risk of irradiated spiders!
Kinetic spike, first.
Death Star firing up reactor cores!
It shoots flamen!!!!
Even better, it werfs flammen.
Today, we *are* here to fuck spiders
Here, have my upvote.
Na yea na, get tha flameridoo m8
[Nuke the site from orbit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCbfMkh940Q)
You will need HIMARS for that
They aren't there due to flooding. They are just all visible due to flooding.
That's a sobering thought, isn't it? I'd like to think that every fucking spider in the world migrated to that fence, but no, that's just one type of spider from that little area.
Pretty wild. I've seen huntsman (common large-ish spider) babies just after hatching a couple of times. They're tiny, but there's so freaking many that it looks like the floor, the walls and the roof are moving.
As many as are here, it's possible it's one or two generations of a single family.
And the ants outnumber them by millions. I'd hate to be around if they all decided to go to war.
There's a book somewhat about that - Children of Ruin. It gets a bit ridiculous, but I enjoyed the series.
That would be epic
There's a cool short story I read years ago about a man that refused to leave his farm or something when an army of ants were destroying everything in their path not too far away.
He ended up building a moat around his property to stop the ants in their tracks, but they just built a bridge with their bodies and took over the land anyway.
Hopefully someone might remember it and share the name.
Leiningen Versus the Ants.
"Escape 48 01 14 Leiningen Vs The Ants : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive" https://archive.org/details/Escape480114LeiningenVsTheAnts
Actually leiningen wins after he burns the Ants with fire. I'm sure Reddit would approve.
I read Leningen versus the ants more than 40 years ago and I’m still traumatized.
And also, consided the reason why so many baby spiders are born: less than 1% will make it to reproductive age. Now when you look back at this video, just know that there were hundreds of thousands more babies
Nothing like staggering into the bathroom in the morning and the floor is moving… with an explosion of baby spiders.
This was literally a recurring dream during my adolescence. Basement of my first home with walls and floor covered in spiders, except in the dream they are all different species and sizes, biggest being like half a meter.
Take a strong flashlight out at night. Hold it at shoulder level and sweep the ground. ALL of those sparking dew-drops are spider eyeballs, no exceptions.
At camp I can see *galaxies*, but unless you creep up on one, you'll never know they're there. 1cm or so and crazy skittish.
And then there's the big mommas that build webs at face height. You'll know all about them in a hurry.
Yeah, been there.
I don't remember what comedienne it was, but she said:
*"Any man can look cool on a motorcycle. Honey, if you wanna know what kind of man you got, watch him walk into a spider web."*
I dance and scream like a toddler being electrified. Not even that scared of them, I'll get right up close and have a look. But *on* me?! Fuck off with that.
Ha! I've almost killed myself on the riding lawnmower. We have those golden orb weavers around here that make a very sticky web. I like to leave them be, but if they get on you, it feels like an Alaskan king crab crawling on your neck.
I hate you.
Why I will never live in Australia
Or visit! Sorry, Australia!
Really? I feel like scuba diving, surfing, wild nature animals, and exploring the desert are amazing reasons to visit!
I know it’s beautiful and I would love to visit, but man I hate spiders!!!!!!!
I live there and haven’t seen a single spider in like 4 weeks.
Biggest thing to be afraid of in Australia is the sun. Kills and harms more people than a few little spiders ever would
Don't worry, they're all at this guy's house now. The rest of the country is safe.
Cut one of those out and you've still got New Zealand.
Lmao at the fucking pussies downvoting you. Australia is hands down one of the best travel destinations in the world for exactly the reasons you listed. Fucking cowards scared of some non venemous spiders. Probably some neck beard basement hermits like that one Reddit mod that ended up on the news for the anti work subreddit.
Edit- at least you’re getting upvoted above 0 now!
Nearly all spiders are venomous, not all are dangerous to us though.
You probably hurt people often without even noticing.
Good one? Dude was downvoted to like -8 for his comment. Imagine thinking Australia is a bad travel destination lmao
I'm serious. Your callous response to people's fears suggest you may do that to people in your life without noticing. They notice though, and your insults also suggests they won't bring it up with you for fear of you hurting them more. People probably avoid you because you're a callous threat to them.
I mean you aren’t wrong. I have basically no friends and am extremely depressed. Thanks for the accurate analysis.
I moved from UK to Australia 20 years ago; I live in the suburbs close to Melbourne.
In 20 years I've seen one snake when I went into the country (granted, it was a Brown Snake and I nearly stepped on it, which would have been bad - "The eastern brown snake is considered the second-most venomous terrestrial snake in the world").
I have seen quite a few spiders - Redbacks (Black Widows), White tails, Huntsmen. Edit - but not as many as you'd think, maybe about 1-3 a year.
Never seen a shark, saw Crocs when I went on a trip to Northern Territory.
Basically unless you live in the bush / country, you rarely encounter these and would be extremely unlucky to actually get bitten.
You’re lucky! I lived in Clayton and Cranbourne and saw a huntsman about every other week. Lifetime trauma 😅
Yup! I prefer to live
That's their fence now
My Australian is very poor but I reckon yea nah mate get fucked
That’s some A+ Australian.
That dude is way too close to those things for my comfort lol.
There’s no way he didn’t walk away with at least one spider on him 😖
I would die. I would die, and the spiders would just make a house out of me but at least I’d be dead.
I just realised what I hate about spiders - it's how unpredictably and awkard they move. Like, what the hell, they are just epitome of RNG irl.
This is one of my biggest issues with them, specifically why are you running TOWARD me if you're AFRAID of me you scary dingus
If bugs understood personal space like most animals do they wouldn't be so bad
Of course it's in Australia...
Time to leave the planet, no spiders on mars amiright
That's correct, Ziggy.
You're statistically never more than one metre from a spider. The flood didn't create those little guys. It just brought them out of hiding. Otherwise they'd still be safely under your pillow or on the underside of your desk.
Hey fuck you pal
Edit: take my horrified upvote.
You piece of...
I hate this
Phew, glad I live in a country that doesn't use the metric system.
Why did you have to comment this and why did I have to read it 😭
This is suddenly not a safe space…
> Otherwise they'd still be safely under your pillow or on the underside of your ~~desk~~ _toilet seat_.
On average. Don't go assuming you are 1 meter from a spider at all times.
Come on man
It's Australia. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not the good kind.
Aussie here, they look like wolf spiders to me. Pretty harmless but bit of a painful bite.
If they are the same as Wolf spiders in America, they are actually good.
They hunt and kill deadly spiders (like the brown recluse) and mosquitos. Like, actively hunt down and kill them.
I'd still wet myself if I saw that wall though...
Wolf spiders are some of the few species I allow to live around the exterior of my house. Wolf spiders and black widows get a pass (unless it’s inside the garage or house). They eat the more aggressive and venomous spiders where I am, so they’re aight. I still hate them, but it’s more of a symbiotic hate.
Australia wasn't designed for humans. It was designed for nightmares. And kangaroos.
Take my award and upvote!
Take my thanks and appreciation! 👍🙏🤙
They evacuated the house to get to higher ground.
are they bitey?
It's Australia. Everything is bitey.
Someome above said they're huntsman, so no they're not bitey to us but they're the perfect house spider as they kill/eat nasty spiders like redbacks.
We've got one living in our mailbox and we moved him inside. They live behind the picture frames/mirrors on your walls.
Flat, dark, cool, safe spaces.
You really never actually see many spiders here unless you're going into attics or unused buildings. obviously present company excepted.
seems like this army will need a lot of food
This is what is under your nice house
Worse still are the number of bugs they must eat to keep them alive.
Could you turn that off, please?
Crikey that's a lot of spiderydoos
My house is by a river and we have some BEASTS crawling around my basement and sometimes up into my house. Primal instinct kicks in and i want to kill them obviously. But we have a rule to not bother any spiders at my house. We dont have a single fly and the spiders dont bother us or the dogs at all. Me and the boyfriend had a debate about killing one because it was bigger than my hand. We chose not to. If they rid my house of annoying flies they are welcome company
Yeah I live in a basement, now I get nothing big, but I get tons of spiders in all corners, with a few quick movers on the ground. So far so good, but I wish the web making spiders would actually fucking start catching something lol
Give me a fly over a spider the size of my damn hand. I can swat a damn fly out of the air.
Dare you to grab it like your trying to pick up marbles
Thanks for that horrible mental image
I thought all of Australia was like that anyway.
Average backyard in Australia
Australian Spiders? Eh, no thanks.
*Alright now hand me the flame thrower!!*
It’s just a spider family reunion! They’re having a great time catching up
A FREE lifetime supply of spiders? Yes please!
I recall this happening a few days before the wabash River flooded my home. Wolf spiders all over the east side of the house. Not as bad as the OP but still very bad.
I am the dog!
Jesus Christ, that whole fucking continent needs to be burned to the ground.
Didn't it already?
Yes. And we still remain
And push them somewhere else? Our best chance to be rid of them is nuclear winter at this point.
The silver lining of a third world war
Grab the flamethrower and burn it down
I agree with the dog.
One of the "many" reasons why I'm never never visiting Australia... :)
Maybe those Austalian wildfires last year weren't such a bad thing.
People died. My entire town was lost.
Burn it with igni
I got it bro
That Flamethrower Elon was advertising looks MIGHTY useful right about now.
Ah nice, you all got them together. Now then is the chance. Go out in the shed, pick up the spare gas tank, some spray of unknow origin as long as it is combustable.
throw some gasoline on the fence, do not step to close(those mf's look hungry). Light a match and start spraying
Burn it all down
Ahh Australia, better known as British Nopeland
Reason enough not to live in Australia.
That's a million reasons to avoid Australia
I’d be double fisting cans of raid till I kilt every single one of them.
literal nightmare fuel
Should be r/WTF --thanks for the nightmares!

Oh hell no
I bet there are more than a hundred! /s
Thanks for the itchiness
One long nope fence
Please get the wunderwaffe dg-2.....
Thought this was a fly trap
Nooooope....fuck that noise, and I live in Fl where 75% of all wildlife is aiming to kill you.
I'm here to fuck spiders!
Yeah, I’m gonna need some gasoline and a couple o’ matches to fix that for ya buddy.
Time for another fire
How many do you think there are, Patrick?
Brother, get the heavy flamer
That's gonna take a lot of raid.
