India at Olympics 2020: Day 7
By - puppuli
Schedule for tomorrow?
Can someone pls link the match of Sindhu QF? I'm unable to see it and can't find anywhere?
You can try nbc olympics website, use USA vpn
Now as things have calmed, could anyone tell about Equestrian - hoe many rounds left and how is Fouaad Mirza doing? (Medal hopes?)
There's 3 rounds ( 3 different events in the same sport). Only one round has been completed and Mirza is placed 7th now. Still 2 rounds left. Basically in Equestrian the one with lowest amount of penalties wins. Medal hopes are doubtful. This the only 3rd time India has sent a player for this event. Germany and Sweden are very dominant in this sport. Since its mostly a European dominated sport. Medal hopes are very low but not zero. But 7th position right now is really a great achievement.
Fouaad Mirza is two time Asian Games silver medal winner, he is not a noob though.
Yep, he's not noob. Idk how you got the impression. As I said Equestrian is dominated by European teams. The OP clearly asked about medal prospects and I gave my opinion.
Any chance against European athletes?
He was ahead of some notable players after Round 1
Is it far fetched to say Sushil kumar is the greatest Olympian of our generation?
Why would you say that?
I am unable to figure out Sony Liv. It has a shitty interface. Been trying to watch the Ma Long Table Tennis final without any luck. They just have a small 1min clip.
They charge f**king ₹299 per month & yet provide no replays.
I regret taking the subscription. I can't watch the matches on time as I am at work.
And in the evenings, I can't watch the replays either.
Should have downloaded the cracked app (like the most of us over there). Sony has been providing a terrible experience for the users and is forcing ads on people, who have paid for the premium subscription as well, which is disappointing.
And yes, there are only small highlights for now. Can you use VPN, change to some other country and try finding the replay on YouTube.
>Can you use VPN, change to some other country and try finding the replay on YouTube.
Thanks man. Will try this option.
Having no replays in such a busy world of modern era on any OTT platform is the most outdated thing by live streaming app
I regret too for taking the decision to get one month subscription on the first day of Olympics when I could watch it on CBC using vpn for free. Unfortunately I didn’t knew that option was available at the time.
Which vpn are you using for CBC?
On App Store it available by the name of **VPN - super proxy unlimited**
A hundred times this.. I don't know why more people aren't complaining about this. They should be having all events full replay available, but they don't.
Are you trying to watch the highlights ?
No I want to watch the entire match
Dutee Chand really tried hard and gave her best to reach to the 100 m destination, that Shelly Ann Price completed effortlessly.
What's the point of commenting now when you're gonna pussy out and delete them later
Mate half of your comments on this thread are deleted so atleast be a good troll
Even the hormones didn't help her
I can't believe some of the negativity around P.V. Sindhu's chances of winning her semifinal match. Probably from the same idiots who said she was definitely going to lose in the QFs.
Yes, T. Y. Tai is higher ranked and higher seeded. But she has never won an Olympic or World Championship medal(and she's older than Sindhu). Sindhu has won 6, and is the current World Champion. In the 2016 Olympics, Sindhu knocked out Tai(who was higher seeded) in the R16 to advance and win silver. In the 2019 World Champs, she beat her again(as well as Chen Yufei) to win gold.
It's idiotic to count her out. Yes her opponent is the favorite, but Sindhu has always risen to the occasion at World Champs and Olympics.
Yes I would think its going to be easy for either player. Tai Tzu Ying would also be fearing Sindhu in this form. Hopefully its a cracker of a match and Sindhu gets through.
If i remember correctly, the record is 15-5 in favour of her opponent who is rank 1 at present. I don’t think that make them idiots if they think PV had lesser chance to win her next match.
Lesser chance is fine. But it's wrong to act like Sindhu has no chance or is a huge underdog. Sindhu has medals in 5/6 World Championships she's competed in as well as Olympic Silver. Meanwhile her opponent has medals in 0/6 World Championships and never past R16 in her two Olympics.
They might have come across as if she has no chance but it doesn’t mean they give her 0% chance. I feel it’s just the fear of her facing a superior opponent for them. As a supporter even I am nervous for tomorrow & getting negative feelings in my mind. It happens with everyone.
I've been saying that she will win the gold this time since yesterday. People don't want to believe.
I think people were just being realistic
Obviously we want Sindhu to win! Many of us will be behind her, every step of way but discounting the caliber of her opponent tomorrow isn’t wise either
If people were really realistic, they would know ranking don't matter in big stage.
What's realistic is that Sindhu has a 50% chance of winning. Yes the opponent is ranked #1 but tends to not be at her best in very high-stake matches (evidenced by the fact that she doesn't have a single Olympic or even World Championship medal despite being one of the top shuttlers for years) Sindhu on the other hand is a big-match player. If you follow badminton, you'd know that any of the top 8 seeds in this olympics could defeat each other and it wouldn't be considered an upset at all
Yep she is a big game player
It slave and software ass worker spotted.
This is a bait guys. Don't fall for the trap. He just wants us to argue with the people here and nothing else.
This is the second time, that this particular user has called our player as shite. He will keep repeating this, expecting us to argue with him, where he can continue abusing our people and players.
Don't feed this troll.
second? I see him everyday after 6-7 PMish, probably has another account which also posts similar comments as this one.
Also Lovlina put up a good fight against the Taipei player, her next opponent is quite scary but maybe she can pull off another victory. I think tomorrow is also the first bout of Amit Panghal who is the WR 1 in 52 kg amateur boxing, he will be playing against WR 2, a tough opponent because he got a bad draw.
You and your attempt at trolling.
She is also the current world champion. But ig even that isn't impressive. You know what's impressive,a middle aged dude calling top sportspersons "shit" and then deleting those comments cuz his mama spanked him for talking shit on internet.
As I said before, he wants people on this thread to argue with him for his 'ego-boost'. Kindly make sure to ignore him from the next time.
>You know what's impressive,a middle aged dude calling top sportspersons "shit" and then deleting those comments cuz his mama spanked him for talking shit on internet.
That was a great response by you. Appreciate that.
I think we have a good chance of winning gold in wrestling.
Good day for us. A medal is guaranteed and our Badminton player is in Semifinals. Let's hope she wins another medal for us. Fouaad Mirza is 7th in Equestrian on Day 1 and we are all proud of him, regardless of the final position.
However, the shooting qualifications were a disappointment (I hope Manu does well in future events and returns back to form). We lost in Archery too. However, that wasn't surprising, since our player faced the Seed Number 1, who went on to win the Gold.
We weren't expecting much from our players in athletics. They gave their best (especially Avinash Sable), but all of them fell short of qualification to the next round. Also, the relay team was a big disappointment.
I am most disappointed in the shooting contingent. Most of them are not making even in the top 8 of their disciplines despite being top ranked in the world. Saurabh Chaudhary was a bright spot but Elavenil, Manu's results were below par. Can't explain the performance at olympics being so sub-par compared to the world shooting events.
Just don't comment if you have nothing constructive to say. Plain and simple. We do not need your armchair athlete comments.
Ignore the troll. He wants us to argue with him. Don't do that.
Dude u have a life? Don't u work?
Why can't we perform better in archery ranking rounds? we just need to avoid Koreans until the last stages to get a bronze medal at least.
We should've bought Arjun
I liked some of the horse names from equestrian: THE QUIZMASTER, FANTASTIC FRIEDA, ABSOLUT GOLD
CONFIRMED: IND men to meet GB in men's #hockey quarterfinals on Aug 1
Complete QF lineup
1 in PoolA #AUS v #NED - 4 in PoolB
2 in PoolA #IND v #GB - 3 in PoolB
3 in PoolA #ARG v #GER - 2 in PoolB
4 in PoolA #ESP v #BEL - 1 in PoolB
#NZ, #JPN, #RSA and #CAN miss out. #Tokyo2020
If we beat GB who would we face? The winners of Aus-Ned?
Winner of BEL-ESP
Oh no! Spain por favor win against Belgium
Goddamn that would be ideal. GBR for QF and ESP for SF.
Dude are you kidding. Belgium is way better than spain.
Is it a good news or a bad news?
Even if we beat Britain (i hope we do) in the quarters, there will most likely be a bad news named 'Belgium' waiting in the semis. Hoping for the best is one thing but Realistically thinking, What I would very much like is Argentina knocking out Germany in the quarters and losing to Australia in the semis. Then we would have a chance at Bronze as we have already beaten Argentina in Pool (doesn't mean we will definately win again but I would rather have our boys face an Argentina they've beaten then a Germany they haven't faced.)
We've beaten Belgium too in last year's Pro League.
But we lost to Belgium in rio
TEN 1 - USA VS NETHERLANDS WOMEN FOOTBALL PENALTY SHOOTOUT
Sony is showing the same hockey game on 3 channels SMH
Ma Long, you legend !!
GOAT. Watching him play is a treat to one's eyes
Okay, just watched the Badminton match since I had missed it. Well, Sindhu is just sublime. The same seriousness and the same calmness I remember seeing in Saina Nehwal, when she was at her best. But Sindhu is one step ahead. And may I say she's beautiful. The best Indian badminton player for sure. But tomorrow is going to be her real test. Calling it a semi-final would be an understatement. Playing against World No.1 means she'll have to give her soul and make history... Going to be tough, but we'll see.
Whats so laughable about being no.7 in the world?
Okay. You are only here for trolling.
Request everyone to ignore this guy. Same repeated arguments.
Ma Long the GOAT. Waldner step aside for all my TT fans.
TTY's greatest strength vis-a-vis Sindhu is her deceptive drop shots. Gotta be careful.
THIS TABLE TENNIS FINALLLLL
What a match. All Semis and Final matches in TT have been fantastic.
Folks like this shithead makes me happy that Italy thrashed England at their home ground.
God damn! You must be having a miserable life lmao
So after a day of brigading threads, I still have not found a single person who asked. Da bri ish are proud of their medals in spigglegump and wooterbush
Tbh even if we ignore the bs media hype, our players not even qualifying for most of the shooting events is quite embarrassing and we ran into the fire ourselves by performing badly at the ranking rounds in archery.
This isn't convincing.
Indian events don't end by 10AM IST, they happen over the course of the day so it is only natural if there is drama it would come when multiple undesirable instances have transpired.
And well when you have countries with 4 Million people nearing double-digit medal tally, the more unusual development would be if people weren't whining about Why is heck is going on.
Even rOlympics hasn't caught onto the India bad train. But it will happen by the end of it if India doesn't have more medals.
It is embarrassing. There is no other semantic to use here. It's a statement of objective fact because any Indian who see the medal table and the performance and then goes, It's fine and not embarrassing also don't know what the heck they are talking about.
Personally I have always blamed the Indian State and Govt, to me Athletes aren't that much to blame because they simply aren't all that good for the level they are competing in and hence can't be blamed all that much.
Those two dumb Hindi commentators have no knowledge of TT
Bad job by Sony network
Yeah the annoying commentator is Sunil Taneja. He is an experienced commentator very cringy. Started his career from PHL, if anyone remembers the hockey league ESPN broadcasted back in the 2000s.
I think you got Adam Bobrow on English commentary, he's awesome.
99% of the time during the game I was listening to him
He is just so good.
And the best thing about him, is that he will always appreciate each and every player. He is a former TT player and he tries to explain the rules for the newcomers at times as well.
During Sharath Kamal match, he talked about meeting him once and appreciated the fact that he was still leading the Indian TT Contigent, despite being 39 and having kids to take care of.
Is he the SWEAT SQUAD guy?
Yup sweat squad zooo zoooo zooo
Oh man, he is bloody brilliant
TT is gonna be my new favorite sports and part of the reason is because of him
Check out [his YouTube channel](https://youtube.com/c/AdamBobrow). Amazing stuff.
Yup already subscribed to his channel.
Lol yeah... it was like two randos had walked in on a sport they had just discovered existed...and decided to commentate
It was a Same story in euros.
Thankfully BBC 5 live commentatary was available in India.
Switch to English. English commentary has been excellent across sports.
Yup I had switched over to Hindi for few points & damn it was horrible
Bhadiya shot kamaal ki rally. Repeat!
you could play the commentary over badminton and nobody would know
Is there extra time in football, or direct penalty shootout?
30 minutes of extra time. After that penalty shootout out. (90+30)
Am long is better on forehand
Fan is better on backhand
Fan is agile & quickest in the world
Ma long is dominating right now. Let's go
Guys, drop whatever the fuck u r doing and watch Table tennins mens gold medal match..
I did after reading this comment. Thanks. It was wonderful game (even better with English commentary).
And now, one of most exciting matches of the games, the men's singles TT finals.
What the actual fuck is this level of speed lmao..
Reminds me of Mose and Dwight in The Office lmao
>Thanks to wonderful performance at Tokyo, Indian Men's Hockey team have achieved an all-time high 3rd ranking (since inception of FIH World rankings in 2003).
woah that's some good news!
Table tennis bronze medal match goes to a decider , live on sony six .
What a game that was, all games semifinal onwards have been so good
Yup , true , coming back from 4 bronze medal game point to win in the game , then go on to win the match , amazing really , nerves of steel .
The semi final was even better , that's saying something .
Dude one guy is collapsing and running towards finish line damn
Equestrian Fouaad Mirza in 7th place so far. This is only the first event, and a third of the field hasn't competed yet, but it's quite impressive.
He won silver at the Asian games iirc.
After how Many events will he qualify for medal? I really don't know how this one works
There are 3 events, the last of which will happen on the 2nd of August. The chances of him winning a medal are pretty low but not zero.
It is amazing he is representing India, and achievement in itself! Hope he does good
17 laps to go in the 10000m race final and 3 guys are way way ahead
Anyone from india in it?
Something new I understood on Sony Liv. It is telecasting almost everything that is available to telecast, you just need to filter it accurately
Most importantly, the name of the event on the stream is also different from the event, that is actually being streamed.
For example - The app may show that the Sailing event is being on an individual stream, but when you open it, then it may broadcast Weightlifting instead. Sony doesn't bother updating the name of the events.
Nope it is not showing everything. It shows one event from every game though but not the same games going on simultaneously
Did you discover it's Schedule page? Because the Watch Now button doesn't work on many streams even if it gets shown to you.
SonyLiv is better than Sony's 4 TV channels but it isn't showing everything still. Weightlifting has been way to erratic on Streams let alone few showing on TV and similar with Rugby 7s and so on.
Yes the schedule page. Let's hope it doesn't give up on athletics events.
Why do they call it 10000m instead of 10km
To maintain the pattern.
Most of the race events are under 1km so ones which are over 1km are also mentioned in meters
Road races of the same distance are called 10km and track events are all 5k, 10k, 3k etc.
LiTerAlly zErO. I think we still have the most olympic golds in hockey. Now fuck off back to your "it's cumming home" subs
> Now fuck off back to your “it’s cumming home” subs
And winning 5 world championship in chess. Can't find England in that list.
Edit: Don't mean to try to belittle your nation but it's clear that you are here just to have pity on Indians.
And also India’s best sports aren’t even in the Olympics LMAO
Why don’t you just google this question? Why do so many foreigners invade threads to ask the same dumb question lmao. Indians have their own sports which are not westernised enough to be in the Olympics
Kabaddi, Jallikattu, vallamkali etc etc. Heck india is decent at squash and is producing grandmasters in chess at a higher rate than any country in the world. None of these sports are in the Olympics. Throw in cricket for good measure. Its easy to win sports when you’re the country that invented the particular sports you win at. No one in india cares about the Olympics cause no one plays any sports from the Olympics, maybe except hockey.
First of all England competes as Great Britain lmao, still living in the monarchy past and more than 50% of the England team are either kolpack or migrants. Have some humility man, if you loot countries for centuries, obviously it will take time for the country to stand on its own again
Your first line shows your ignorance. Chess is recognised as a sport by the International Olympic Comittee. Your definition for sports is pulled out of your ass.
‘Why do ALL other countries’ ‘Indian people aren’t fit’ you’ve somehow generalised 7.5 billion people and 1.4 billion people in the same comment. Where do you get the inference that Indian people aren’t athletic? Not one country can be more athletic than the other. For years people though that the Chinese were small un athletic people until their government instilled a sports system that destroyed every western country in the Olympics.
Heard of google, genius?
> Or the slum lifestyle?
Any particular reason you're acting like a cunt here, or is this just an everyday thing for you?
Dude u are fucking over 30 . What is this behavior you inbred retard.
Quit your trolling and jog on mate.
With your definition of sport which you somehow regard over the international Olympic Comittees one, I can say you should just live in your delusion. Maybe shooting should be removed from the Olympics then?
‘Indian people aren’t athletic’ again, no proof. You’re just living up to that racist British neck beard stereotype. Do you honestly think all sports that Indians play are in the Olympics? England got they asses beat this year in all three formats by the Indian team. Not one format of cricket is in the World Cup.
‘The world’ aka you. How many generalisation/ are you tryna make in a single comment Bruh. Do you not understand that Indians don’t care about the sports in Olympics and would rather keep to their own ? Do you not understand that they don’t care what people think about them for not winning a 100 medals?
Again, ‘rest of the world’ is a pretty big generalisation. I never said india doesn’t care about sport. I said india doesn’t care about OLYMPIC sports. Your big ‘anomaly’ in terms of sports is only measured using Olympic success. Again, not many Indians care about the Olympics as they feel they have better cultural sports themselves. India has no sort of ‘Olympic’ infrastructure set up for sports.
Lack of media coverage to sports of course aside cricket
Lack of infrastructure
Lack of spending on sports schools & academy.
Lack of interest in sports among Indian previous generations
& so on
Because it isn't our priority
