Charger not keeping up when playing games

Charger not keeping up when playing games

Rokinhard

Your iPad is overheating, thus throttling the charger in order to maintain safe temps. That would be my guess, assuming you are using the OEM charger and cable.

zyzzb10

I am using the OEM charger and cable that came with the device. I believe the power adapter is 20W.

ElectronGuru

Try a larger power supply, 25-50 watts. And make sure it’s a good cable.

zyzzb10

I'll try a 30W or 61W Apple power adapter.

Falcondor07

30w should be fine, don’t go for the 61w unless you don’t have it already, because the maximum input iPad Pro takes is 25w I believe.

Krispies2point0

I’ve seen 33+. iphone 13 PM will do 25.

lasiru

I don’t think anyone has suggested this, check a different cable. My wife’s brand new iPad Air 4 cable slowly died over the course of months. Replaced with a better cable than what apple provides, it’s all good.

zyzzb10

I didn't even think of that. I'll try that as well if the 30W adapter doesn't do it for me.

LBTUK

You’ll need the 35w charger to maintain charge. I’m not sure the 61w is supported the 35w is definitely supported as I use it and it’s much faster than 20w

zyzzb10

I did some searching, and you seem to be correct. The 61W would be a waste since it can only draw \~30W or so

ImKira

Could try running the brightness at a lower setting.

AlternativeAward

iPad Pro can draw 36W maximum, use a bigger charger

Hentai_samurai01

Dude just dont….dont play games while charging. Matter of fact dont do anything while charging. Might get downvoted but fuck it, u can play games later. Just let the device charge properly.

TheBurgerMan

This is dumb advice. These devices were designed to handle this and manage power/ heat correctly without being detrimental. Enjoy your device however you want.

iThunderclap

What’s difference between playing while charging on an iPad and on a laptop? Both use lithium batteries…

zyzzb10

Why not care to clarify? Are you worried about the battery life or something else?

cassette_sunday

exactly! don't get why people do this...

MegaManBronson

Aren’t you supposed to *not* use your devices while charging?

zyzzb10

No that's not a problem. It's supposed to only make charging slower. [https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3934395](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3934395)

cassette_sunday

most people are saying don't game while charging at the same time. it's clearly causing issues. but you do you if you refuse to listen to advice 👍
