Proud of my avocado in a jar. Time for its first repot.

What’s your secret to making it grow so well? 👏🏼👏🏼
I would love to know too.
Germinate the seed first before planting. (keep the pit in a warm damp paper towel for a few weeks until a tap root forms. I usually keep pits inside a plastic bag ontop of the fridge.)
Once the root is about 3-5 inches, its ready to plant. I found that a good cactus mix does well for the avocado.
Keep them in a warm location, with some sun but not too harsh. (these tropical plants are used to sprouting on the ground under shade. So they like it warm, damp, with just a few hours of sun each day)
Hope this helps! Keep at it. I've failed many times to try and grow these, so don't give up!
Thanks so much for your response! I am definitely going to give this a go. It’s such a nice looking plant too! Hope you get some delish avocados from it 🤩
What's in the jar?
Soil avocado and roots
I used a cactus mix with just a bit of organic compost. This is about 5 months of growth.
so cool! mine just sprouted, what should i do with him now? he was in a wet paper towel in a plastic bag before
I suggest putting it in soil when ready. Keep them in a warm location, with some sun but not too harsh. (The avocado pits are used to sprouting on the ground under shade. So they like it warm, damp, with just a few hours of sun each day). I'd also mist daily just to make sure they have enough humidity.
They're amazing trees when mature. Here's looking up into one of the largest I've ever seen, in Ecuador. The tree had to have been 50+ft tall, 100ft wide canopy-
It looks gorgeous. 😮 How old is it?
Started growing this seed in Feb 2021. So only a few months.
Your jar doesn't have draining holes, so how often do you water it?
One more question, did you prune it? It got very leafy.
Correct, no drainage holes. I actually watered with a spray bottle, just a few sprays each morning and night to saturate the soil but not enough to leave it soaked. (I watered heavier if I was going away for a few days)
I didn't prune it. I just let it grow on its own.
🤔 Nice approach. Thank you for sharing, I am sorry but another question, 😅 The leaves look particularly unique, I don't see this wavy pattern on most avocado plants, would you happen to know what kind of avocado is it that you planted?
Good question but I unfortunately do not know the type of avocado. Maybe someone with more botany knowledge could I.D. it?
Thank you. I will try to look it up. I have researched a bit on avocado but I haven't seen one as yours before. Would you mind sharing a picture when you are done repotting it too?
Sure thing. I did repot shortly after I posted this image. I'll share another photo as this plant is doing quite well in the new pot.
