I Know What You Did Last Summer is better than you remember it being

“What are you waiting forrrr??!!!” *Screams in Jennifer Love Hewitt*
Jennifer Love Hewitt is actually a good screamer IMO lol
Yeah I love her screams in this movie. 😂
She's good at reading letters.
She’s actually good, but I remember this coming out when she was over saturated. I swear she was in everything in 97-99.
Yeah she always had a great pair of.... err screams..
“What am I waiting for? What am I waiting for??! Fuck youuuuuuu!”
I cant hear this without thinking about the parody in "Scary Movie" anymore!
scary movie is just epic. until it wasn't. The matrix oracle/ring parody with queen latifah is just legendary hilarious. ahahaahah
And so birthed the fart humor parody craze. I still don't understand why they thought it would be funny to parody comedies. By its nature it can only be less funny than the thing it's parodying.
Counterpoint, Not Another Teen Movie parodied plenty of RomCom and college humor movies, and as the best of them all by a country mile.
Legit, that exactly what played in my mind when I read this post or even mention - I know what you did....
Sarah Michelle Gellar's chase scene in this film is still one of the best in its genre.
I still hope she makes it every time I rewatch
I remember almost nothing about the movie, but this… this I remember. If I ever rewatch it, it’ll be to see this scene.
100%. My goodness it was well done. Helen gave it her all dang it.
Best chase scene in my opinion
That silhouette shot of her running in front of the white barn with Ben Willis 5 paces behind her is pretty iconic.
Yea, they got an unwarranted bad rep. They are NOT as bad as those intentionally shitty 80s Friday the 13th knock-offs, like people made these movies out to be. I like the first two a lot. The third one never happened.
Ya let's all pretend the 3rd one doesn't exist lol.
oof, I watched the third for the first time recently (did a rewatch of one and two) and holy carp was that bad.....
Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend.. there was some solid slashers in the 90’s. Good horror, in general. Oh the 90’s...
Yes so true when my cousins and I were younger we had these in rotation along with The Faculty.
Owww the Faculty 🔥🔥
Gotta add Disturbing Behavior too.
And to think Scream, Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Dawson's Creek were all written by the same dude. I cant think of any other individual who contributed more to 90's pop culture than Kevin Williamson
I like those movies, but IMO the best slasher to come out of the 90s and only real "classic" was candyman. I guess Scream too
Scream was amazing, but I kind of can't forgive it for killing the slasher genre for a while.
Aw, you must be fun at parties!
You have to ignore social media trolls otherwise they eat up the attention.
you must be fun at being a tool
JUSTICE FOR HELEN!!!!!
I don't know what it is, but >!SMG's death scene !< always hurts so much.
Definitely my favorite 90s style slasher that came in the wake of Scream. Actually enjoyed that and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer quite a lot. Although they're hardly all time classics, they're just fun to watch because they mostly have some pretty enjoyable characters
Wdym? Scream is indeed a classic.
Oh Scream absolutely is I just meant the Know What You Did Last Summer films, but actually they probably are as well just a step below. They still stand out above most of the other imitators from that era
They’re *both* classics
Two is pretty good. Cast was solid, Freddy prinze Jr was always fun to watch. It wasn't super obvious who the killer was, although I haven't watched it in a good long while. Maybe it was to people who were more aware of horror tropes.
The ending made no damn sense though, I remember that, either of them.
Speaking of Prinze, it's rather amusing that the first film was where he and Sarah Michelle Gellar first met (and they're still together after over 20 years) and you watch it and realize how little direct interaction they have with each other. (It makes sense though since the only reason their characters would ever interact in the first place is because of their ties to Hewitt's Julie.)
It is! I really wish they both did more acting, I love watching both of them. When I was younger I really figured Prinze was going to become a superstar, then he just vanished. I get why, they both wanted to focus on family and other stuff.
The fact they've remained together for so long while being a hollywood couple is really amazing.
I *love* the second one, it edges out the first in terms of rewatchability due to how seriously it *doesn’t* take itself.
Is it *actually* scary? Eh, I’ll say no. Is it a ton of fun? Yeeeaahhh it is
Yeah, not really scary at all, it knows what it is and it embraces it really well. Definitely more fun than the first one, I think so too!
She wrote a lot of stuff that was good for that when.
Watched it for the very first time last year and yes I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a lot of fun! The SMG kill sequence especially is really exceptionally crafted.
I liked both IKWYDLS movies (never seen the third one), but these are so forgettable. I just remembered they even exist. But I just loved loved loved Helen as a character, and Julie also gets pretty great in ISKWYDLS (along with this friend of hers whose name I don't remember), so I guess the characters are the strong part of the franchise
There’s a third installment that actually was decent for a straight to video sequel
I probably should check this one out too
Is this one really bad?
It was horrible
True but a lot of people worked hard to make it that bad, and I only had to watch it with a free Amazon gift card
“Yo, chum bait, take a hike!”
i just remember screaming "BIIIIIIITCH WHY'D YOU TURN AROUND?!?!?!" when >!helen died lmao!<
I loved this movie as a teenager! I just recently read the book it was based off of and was really surprised by the changes that were made between the two. The book has a much better twist IMO but the movie is still bad ass 🙌🏽
Saw this last night with my nieces and nephews and they were absolutely shitting bricks! This is a classic and Helen Shivers’s death is one of the best chase/kill scenes in any scary movie.
Elsa!!! Open the door!!
Definitely solid, has the 90s slasher vibe. Obviously need to set expectations going in (and it doesnt have the meta brilliance of Scream) but its for sure a fun movie with a charismatic cast. Beats the hell out of 99% of horror that comes out today.
Any other 90s slashers you recommend? I liked Scream as well. I like slashers that aren't 110% serious and these both fit that vibe.
You might enjoy Idle Hands then as well. It’s meant to be terrible(?), but it’s definitely 90’s fun
Idle Hands is great. I love that movie.
It’s been a while, but I remember liking it. I enjoyed most of Devon Sawa’s work I think.
Look at me I’m Leatherface!!
lol i definitely remember that line
I vaguely remember this. Gotta watch it now
I think Scream, IKWYDLS, and Urban Legend are the top 90s slashers - in that order
Candyman would like a word
I STAND CORRECTED
haha I always mistakenly think it’s older than it is for some reason
"Candyman's" not really a slasher though (the sequels are).
I think it fits into the slasher category, but i could be mistaken. Regardless, he does use a sharp object to murder people, which is essentially the base characteristic of a slasher, no?
fan of ***Gossip*** (2000)
Beats 99% of horror that comes out today? Yeah, definitely not lol.
Y’all can downvote me but you know it’s true 🤷🏽♂️
I would think they mean slashers. The first two fear streets, for example, don’t really hold a candle to any of the Scream era slashers - in my opinion.
I just showed this movie to my 11 year old daughter the other night.. She loved it.. She kept saying \*drama!\* lol
It had one of the best chase scenes as well
and it has a pretty good soundtrack!
I wouldn't say "look past" the cheesiness. I would say EMBRACE the cheese!
Don't forget there's a pretty fun sequel where they go to the Carribean and Jack Black tries to sell them weed and has dreadlocks.
outside of Mr Show I never cared for Jack Black
I’ll never forget listening to this soundtrack when i was driving and ran over a priest who was on a bike.
It started off great but the second/last half of the film is just okay. Very decent slasher overall.
The sequel though, I remember really liking it but it’s just pretty bad ngl.
don't tell me what I remember things better for them being
People hated this movie? I know what you did last summer, scream, and a couple of other slasher movies from that time are really good. At least they were original.
I absolutely love this and the sequel. They do what they set out to do...and are extremely fun to watch right around summer vacation time. Soundtrack for the original is fantastic as well.
Read the novel by Lois Duncan. Much better than the film.
I watched it for the first time a couple of months ago and really liked it, shoutout to SMG's chase scene
No. No it’s not.
I just couldn't get into it
Great fun movie. Made in a time where movies could be short and they didn't need overly complicated time travel multi verse plots. Just a simpler movie for a simpler time.
no it isn't
I just watched the dead meat on this… I doubt it lol.
I’m going to revert to my pretentious preteen self and say it’s still not as good as the book!
Seriously though, I haven’t watched it in forever, but it was definitely a fun one when I was young.
This was always my favourite slasher film when I was younger along with Scream. For what it is it’s a great film.
The 2nd one is definitely worth a watch if you enjoyed the first one.
I actually remember liking it alot. Granted I haven't seen it since it was in theaters, and I was 14. But I liked it.
I loved this movie and had nightmares for a while after seeing it in theaters. I was 8, but it’s still my first actual r movie/scary movie I saw, so it holds a special place in my black heart
I love the original. The second one is a guilt pleasure for me and the third one is absolute shit show which should’ve never existed
I love how Rob Zombie referred to this movie as something akin to teens being chased down by the Gordon's Fisherman.
every one made that joke hell even the movie made the same joke
I really enjoyed it! Personally, I prefer the sequel over the original though.
I love it but it’s very much a “the wrong people survived” horror!!
I still remember watching it last summer, and it was better than I'd remembered.
As soon as they killed off Helen the film loses steam - Julie and ray just were not compelling enough
We watched it this Fourth of July after wondering if there was any good Fourth of July horror. A new staple
Jack Black in part 2 though 👌🏼
Older horror movies are better in general. The last 10 years been pretty weak in that department. It's all about possession now, and they can't even come close to The Exorcist. I just want more variety to be honest. I also hate how they act like they can't do slasher films no more, like they are cheesey. How about making non cheesey horror films.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 111,219,021 comments, and only 29,026 of them were in alphabetical order.
Feel free to elaborate on why you think it's bad. You don't need to agree with me but your comment doesn't really spark any discussion as it stands rn
You can bust in here with basic ass cliches like this while criticizing anything.
to bad the book suck
