What is your 80s cheesy horror guilty pleasure?

What is your 80s cheesy horror guilty pleasure?

R3dB3ard5150

Night of the Demons

WineOfAges

Angela gave me nightmares as a child!

Computron1234

Haven't seen that one!

R3dB3ard5150

Really fun and amazing practical effects. Warning it's raunchy.

Plmr87

That lipstick scene!

Computron1234

That's ok I'll watch while the wife's out. Lol

savage86lunacy

It has one of my favorite opening credits of any horror movie. The animated backgrounds and music put me in such a Halloween mood, I love it.

MattyXarope

I watch this every Halloween. It's a perfect 80s movie. I love everything about it.

Msedits

The sequel is pretty good too

RealSimonLee

Rare instance where a low budget 80s horror film is kind of succeeded by its predecessor. Kind of an Evil Dead to Evil Dead 2 change.

AlxSTi

Ever see the 2009 remake with Shannon Elizabeth? So terrible.

Berdahl88

Sleepaway Camp Edit: A wholesome award!? 😂 Thank you fellow redditor!

oh_its_him_again

Eat shit and live, Bill

TrashNovel

The ridiculous muscles on the camp counselor. The ridiculous shorts on everyone. The aunts acting! Total hilarity. But the final scene is truly disturbing.

kissarmygeneral

It’s as good as Friday the 13th in my opinion

divinepinkflamingo

*better than

pressplaynk

This is the correct answer.

psiren66

Oooo I have the night off I might just watch this now!! I have the first 3

EnchantedDaylight

Night of the creeps

AlaskaDude14

Yes Night of the Creeps for sure!

gwarrior5

Here here!

Chris55730

So good! Thrill me lmao

SpiritualLychee3760

Night of the comet

Computron1234

Love night of the comets! Realized the other day the girl from chopping mall is in it too!

SpiritualLychee3760

Kelli Maroney, my older cousin actually went to high school with her. I had such a huge crush on her.

cavalier78

Had? I still do.

Techne123

Slumber Party Massacre 2! A rock n roll serial killer with the freddy krueger dream powers was so over the top but soooo damn hilarious!

Vincesteeples

The leap from SPM1 to SPM2 is kind of like that jump cut in 2001: A Space Odyssey where the ape throws the bone into the air and then the bone spins in slow motion and suddenly it's a hovering ship in outer space and the movie is now millions of years in the future

colianne

Fright night and silver bullet!

Computron1234

Gary Busey in silver bullet before he went nuts. Was awesome.

Sad-Artichoke-2174

Gary Busey "before he went nuts"

CtanleySupChamp

[Seriously though, he suffered significant (and likely personality changing) brain damage from a motorcycle accident.](https://people.com/movies/gary-busey-recalls-almost-deadly-motorcyle-accident/#:~:text=the%20Other%20Side'-,Gary%20Busey%20Recalls%20His%20Almost%20Deadly%20Motorcycle%20Accident%3A%20I,Went%20to%20the%20Other%20Side'&text=%22I%20went%20off%20the%20bike,realm%20where%20I%20got%20information.)

metaljm25

He was great in Silver Bullet.

SpiritualLychee3760

"Hehaw hehaw hehaaaaaaallways calls me that!!"

LainyJP

I will drop everything I'm doing and watch "Silver Bullet" when it's on TV.

paulrasmussen27

Killer klowns from outer space, loved it as a kid.

Pizzaman725

> What are you gonna do... knock my block off?  Such a fun movie, so cheesy but always a good watch.

paulrasmussen27

The theme song was also amazing

Rlacharite10

My son is 11 and loves Killer Klowns, about 2-3 years ago the Dickies played in my town, I took him to the show and he about lost his shit when they played the Killer Klowns theme song 😃

SkaJamas

My dad always told me about the movie, never found it until highschool. I was already into punk and the Dickies. When I finally saw the movie I was like omfg, that sounds like.... then I googled and found out that had a whole EP

paulrasmussen27

No way! The odds of seeing that live are insane! I’m jealous!

Rlacharite10

Yeah it was a great time! I was amazed they’re still playing shows. Definitely catch them if they come around!

paulrasmussen27

Oh it’s so good. I’ll watch it occasionally to this day and it’s great. The clowns are pretty terrifying too, the costumes were awesome!

tokulord

This is a pleasure for me, but not a guilty one. It's up there with Die Hard and Citizen Kane as a cinematic masterpiece.

Nolifeking21

I adore Killer Klowns! Have tshirts, pins, posters lol. Loved the walkthrough Halloween Horror Nights did a few years back for it. Klownzilla forever!!

courtbubz

The killer klowns house at Halloween Horror nights from 2019 was epic! So much nostalgia!!

SchwillyThePimp

dis mine

5koalasinatrenchcoat

Seems like this is a popular one!

Grypheon-Steele

Fright Night, C.H.U.D, and Re-Animator.

Dardoleon

I take personal offense to listing Re-Animator as a guilty pleasure. That movie is a masterpiece!

Grypheon-Steele

I agree…it is a cult classic. I could also add…The Toxic Avenger.

Mither93

I was just about to say that. There's nothing guilty about my pleasure when watching Re-Animator. It's a genuinly good movie.

dreamki11er

Love Re-Animator

SagsMcSaggerson

I'm more of a C.H.U.D. 2: Bud the Chud kinda guy myself. But I love Fright Night and Re-Animator. I have both movie posters framed in my living room.

Computron1234

Are you my best friend? Because it sure seems like it!

daikinsinbakinis

Glad I didnt scroll down too far to see Fright Night. The soundtrack is proper good 80s cheese too!

slippers13

I run the soup kitchen - it’s a good thing they deliver

czeka17

Return of the Living Dead

NoAd3038

my absolute favorite movie of all time. i have watched it at least 15 time, it never gets old. i have a glow in the dark collectors edition dvd 😭

czeka17

Ok, now you are just bragging. I am so jealous.

13senilefelines31

Do you wanna paaaaarty? It’s party time!!!

Techne123

I actually consider this to be the scariest movie I've ever seen. As cheesy and confusing as that sounds because its a comedy, you cannot deny that the tarman and the overall musical tone of the last 30 minutes of the film is fucking terrifying! I've yet to ever experience anything scarier.

cherryredjen

Yes!!! This is one of my top 3 favorite movies. I remember being young and reading the disclaimer in the beginning that it was a true story, scared the crap out of me. The soundtrack is phenomenal, the music alone is amazing and does set a really scary tone. My heart still races when they cremate that body and the green smoke goes into the air and you hear that repeatative beat.... damn it gets me everytime.

czeka17

I agree. They did a great job with the zombies and the ending gave seriousness to the wild ride before it.

nirvroxx

I felt this way for the entirety of my youth because I watched it as a stupid 7 year old and believed the “based on true events” disclaimer at the beginning of the movie.

weretakingcasualties

Send more paramedics.

askyourmom469

Send more cops!

cliff2014

"BOY YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR MOUTH IF YOU LIKE THIS JOB!!!" LIKE THIS JOB!?!?!??!?!

czeka17

I actually heard that in his voice lol!

SaltyCrabbo

I never knew people considered this movie cheesy. A black comedy for sure but not cheesy lol

metaljm25

It's definitely silly and very cheesy but enjoyable nonetheless.

FYPM0311

This is my favorite movie of all time. My parents had a copy of the soundtrack on vinyl and it had Trash topless on one side that I loved as a kid.

DoktorThodt

From Beyond & The Reanimator. Also, Night of the Comet.

TheKillerSmiles

From Beyond is wild! But then again any movie Jeffrey Combs is in is sure to be wild.

leejtam

Chopping Mall, definitely Chopping Mall

Berdahl88

Love Chopping Mall. Night of the Comet is also awesome and has Kelli Maroney in it.

[deleted]

I watched Chopping Mall today and was thinking these would make a good double feature.

Berdahl88

Definitely.

SpiritualLychee3760

"I'm just not used to being chased around a mall in the middle of the night by killer robots.."

Computron1234

Love chopping mall watch anytime I can!

sCGgQ9gXpS4VU8b

Chopping mall is awesome

Halloweenkristy

Waxwork

Computron1234

I've seen that on my recommend, is it really scary or more campy horror?

Halloweenkristy

Not scary, definitely more campy.

Computron1234

Cool I'll check it out!

violentelvis

Toxic avenger for sure it’s definitely the greatest movie ever made. Humanoids from the deep, pieces, night of the demons and life force would be my top 5

Computron1234

I'll have to look for HFTD and pieces never seen them!

antacidjunkie

From Beyond

heylistenlady

It's surprising this movie isn't mentioned more. It is a wiiiiild ride!

Apeirophobia69

This movie was so horny

bedofnail

The lost boys. It's infinitely watchable.

osarusan

Epic sax guy on infinite repeat!

CrackinBones204

I still believe!

EndlessShortcomings

That was a childhood goal of mine to be as oiled up and jacked as him and play a mean tenor. I only achieved half of that goal 😂 But I still believe!!

knobby_67

I think this is a classic of horror. And is in no way a guilt pleasure.

HEYitzED

That’s just a great movie. Wouldn’t call it a guilty pleasure.

DrXenoZillaTrek

Maximum Overdrive!!! "This machine just told me to go fuck myself"

dariogrrr

So much bad acting but still love this movie. The waitress with the high whine "but we made you" over and over again pops in my head thinking about this movie.

Acopalypse

Now HERE'S a guilty pleasure movie! It's the gas station food of 80s horror. If a person says they like it in public, they usually find themselves getting apologetic. I'd like to tangentially recommend Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, in particular "The Cat From Hell" based off King short. The whole anthology is wonderfully mean-spirited and adolescent.

heylistenlady

But .... WE MADE YOU!!

Computron1234

I have to see this now

AristeiaXVI

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors hands down!! Edit: [WE'RE THE DREAM WARRIORS](https://youtu.be/noLPhZvcBpw)

Lux2014

Welcome to prime time bitch!

nirvroxx

Sorry kid! I don’t believe in fairy tales!

Still_Satisfaction53

Aaah what a rush!

millenially_ill

My husband and I randomly sing the end credit song all the time!

oFbeingCaLM

Dolls

tugmansk

Was watching this just last night! Underrated for sure.

SupremePooper

Props for naming CRITTERS, but I'm going for two other New Line gems from the era, both from the underappreciated Jack Sholder: The HIDDEN, with a young Kyle Mclachlan, & the forgotten ( but vivid) ALONE IN THE DARK with Martin Landau, Jack Palance & Donald Pleasance. This one AIN'T the awful Uwe Boll disaster or the game that one's named after, but a tight little horror comedy that ought to be found for your own sake. I would have included Charles Kaufman's MOTHER'S DAY, which is indeed cheap & cheesy but is in a class by itself.

foodheavy

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

gmoney-0725

April Fool's Day.

Modest_MaoZedong

The Howling

FreddieGregg

The Lost Boys and Silent Night, Deadly Night. They're both perfect.

shanobirocks

Street Trash is tons of low class messy fun. Ragewar aka The Dungeonmaster is an anthology produced by Charles Band. 7 directors each tell a different part of an overarching computers vs magic story. It's often incoherent but still a good time. Howling 2 has werewolf orgies and an amazing theme song. And Christopher Lee. The Visitor is from 1979 but I'm recommending it anyways. A psychedelic take on the antichrist kid story featuring ice skating, birds, Jesus alien allegories, and more birds. The Keep is a Michael Mann fiasco about nazis unleashing a demon in an ancient fortress they've commandeered and turning to Gandalf for help. Fog machines and Tangerine Dream. The Lair of the White Worm is Ken Russell's adaptation of the Bram Stoker snake cult story. Keep an eye out for the phallic images hidden (or obvious) in almost every scene. Body Melt is early 90s but it's a favorite of mine. If you like melting people, mutants, bodybuilders, and cheesy Australian humor it's a must watch.

Steve_Conway

Lair of the White Worm had an amazing cast: Amanda Donohoe, Hugh Grant, Catherine Oxenberg. Peter Capaldi. Great choice!

tommy_wright_III

Blood Diner!

Berdahl88

Blood Diner is freaking awesome.

aww-hell

Pretty much all of them. I’ll throw one up that i didn’t see listed already.. Maximum Overdrive. Directed by Stephen King during the height of his cocaine fueled madness.

[deleted]

[удалено]

emofraggle

I know I loved The Gate as a kid but every time I try to remember that movie it feels like I'm trying to remember a fever dream and I don't know what's real.

Geekboxing

No guilt at all. Chopping Mall, Night of the Creeps, any Stuart Gordon movie, any and all big dumb franchise slashers.

Strange_Penalty5494

The Stuff

JustBoredIsAll

Critters Ghoulies Puppetmaster Series Cats Eye Killer Klowns from Outer Space Phantasm

metaljm25

Ghoulies...used to watch that as a kid. Haven't seen it in so long. Same with Puppet master and Killer Klowns. I just recently watched the phantasm series and I really enjoyed it.

Bookofdrewsus

Basket Case

BeautynCrime

Night of the Demons

FettLivesMatter

Monster Squad

13senilefelines31

I recently watched Wicked Stepmother from 1989, and my only disappointment is that I never watched it sooner. It’s a delightful piece of ‘80s cheeseball trash! Bette Davis is billed as a starring role, but she has very little screen time. Apparently she was so unhappy with the final script that she ended up walking out of the shoot by saying that she had to leave early for a dental appointment and never returned. This lead to some completely crazy changes to an already questionable script.

Computron1234

Sounds amazing!

Denton68

Slumber Party Massacre

Charmingjanitorxxx

House!

JudasTheFather

Terror Vision

bty1987

Slaughter high

augustschwartz7

All of them.

LightningMantis

A fellow Crites fan eh? “They have guns.” “So?” (Door opens and blasts one away.) “Fuck!” Gets me every time.

Computron1234

I love the fact that they are not dumb monsters, that they are actually thinking about how to kill the humans!

Midwest_Macabre

Troll

[deleted]

Does Dead Alive / Braindead count? Relevant aside, I’m currently watching Re-Animator for the first time.

heylistenlady

I don't care what decade it is, Dead Alive always counts, for everything.

TickleMyPixels

Who would feel guilty about liking all these awesome movies?

GeorgieBlossom

Not I, said The Fly.

gracerules501

Creepshow 2 for sure

MyCatIsOnViagra

Motel Hell

duowolf

Vamp. Love that movie

sypherhelyx

I don’t really have guilty pleasures, I just like stuff. But Class of Nuke ‘Em High is my favorite cheesy as hecc 80’s movie, just so dang ridiculous.

methratt

Until the authorities get involved, none of my pleasures are guilty...but, to answer your question...maybe...Waxwork?

yeet_the_children_-

Friday the 13th movies all except Jason goes to hll (never wanched it)

Steakman765

Don’t watch it. It’s terrible. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

ArgentMoonWolf

Don't be afraid of the dark 1973 with Kim Darby, that movie scared the piss outta me as a kid.

EmperorXerro

I’m not sure if this subreddit would necessarily call it horror, but Night of the Comet.

ninja_pumpkin11

The Gate and Night of the Comet

akkinzer349900

April Fools Day

dtrachey56

Chopping Mall. Terrible but so fun

dreamki11er

I love me some King I could argue that the original “Pet Sematery” isn’t too bad. And “Christine?” That’s a John Carpenter flick man! Not to mention that you’ll flinch in the presence of a real 58 fury, even if it is cheesy. But “maximum overdrive” is cocaine fueled schlock with an ACDC heavy soundtrack

tsdolat

All the Howling films. All of ‘em!

Fragrant_Dig_6294

The Ghoulies, Killer Clowns from Outer Space aaand the Blob

atomicdweller

Killer Klowns...yes!

SassySarah85

The blob for me lol

spookshcw

House, Dolls, Killer Klowns.. there's so many!

The Day After....still gives me chills!!!

SassySarah85

The Blob

Twistofthetit

Lifeforce

calchaos67

The Leprechaun movies are sooooo dumb I love em

Nekron90

Dead And Buried -opening scene where a photographer taking some shots on the shore is approached by a girl. He casually takes a few shots as she seems to be flirting. Suddenly a group of town’s people grab him wrap him in fishing nets and burn him alive. All with no dialogue. Still super creepy. Society- definitely in Chronenberg’s collection. The Church- produced by Argento And cant believe no ones mentioned The Stuff !

Uzzer_lozer19

Child's play

helpmeimpoorish

Dolls Return of the Living Dead Part II (near and dear to my heart) The Gate Troll Creepshow 2 (the raft is amazing) Night of the Creeps Invaders from Mars Happy Birthday to Me

VegasSunset

Happy Birthday to Me is my favorite of all time. The skewer death, the weights and the scarf in the bike were the best kills ever assembled for an 11 year old girl at the time.

[deleted]

There is no way for me to distinguish one of those from movies that I just like.

Uncoolx2

All of them. Just a wonderful decade of unpretentious schlock.

AdrianaRed

Slaughter High

GoldenAshtray

Transylvania 6-5000

hayhayyoung

Commenting so I can come back and watch all these hehe

Computron1234

Just to add a few of my other favorites: Alligator is an amazing one, and even though it was 1978 piranha was one that scared me so bad as a child I wouldn't open my eyes under water until I was 7. There is also a little known gem that I was able to get my hands on recently called I come in peace/Dark Angel-it was released under two different names due to some copyright issues. I tracked this movie down from only two scenes I remembered as a kid watching this. I knew the bad guy bled white blood and had white hair, and he had some kind of ice pick thing that shot out of his arm like scorpion from mortal combat. Lol it's really an interesting watch if you.get a chance to see it.

CottonSC

I own every Leprechaun movie on Blu Ray

Singer211

The Slumber Party Massacre.

HauntedGrave

Re-Animator! It’s unabashedly my favorite movie, but so cheesy and weird.

anhonorandapleasure

re-animator (85)! though it’s not as cheesy as i thought it would be going in and is actually quite good. the title sequence is one of the best in history imo.

salyabyum

How has An American Werewolf in London not been mentioned?? Such a fun classic! Appreciating all the other suggestions for stuff i never heard of!

thinkandrelate

Maniac Cop! Which I saw recently and was surprisingly good. Good enough to watch Maniac Cop 2. My favorite growing up, Return of the Living Dead II. I thought that movie was so funny but the makeup and practical effects kept me spooked when I wasn’t laughing about a screw driver getting stabbed into a zombies head

Bhutros1

I believe there's a young Bruce Campbell in that first one

SailAway84

The Blob!

tartanrn

Last Slumber Party

cavalier78

CHUD 2. Eat ‘me up, eat ‘me up, yum yum yum!

dunzig77

Slugs. Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare. And Pieces!

pastelhell666

Gotta love killer Klowns. I only saw it last year and I thought for sure I wouldn’t be into it but it’s so over the top silly that it’s impossible to not have a good time

Kered024

Puppet Master

SciFiCat2517

Night of the comet

Babywalker66

Chopping Mall or Killer Klown’s from Outer Space it’s a coin toss

The_Book-JDP

Mine is Puppet Master 1989, absolutely love that shit.

valis010

Razorback. There's always been something about the desolate Australian outback that creeps me out. Gotta shutout Near Dark with a tremendous cast. edit* added Near Dark

5koalasinatrenchcoat

Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Did not help the whole clown fear.

OddScentedDoorknob

The cast of Maximum Overdrive, as a "bonding" activity, went out to a bar one night while they were shooting, and they got drunk and started harassing my uncle, who was in his early 20s at the time. They followed him out to the parking lot and beat the absolute shit out of him, laughing and cheering each other on. So I can't help but feel guilty for enjoying Maximum Overdrive.

BrianTheReckless

I don’t feel guilty about anything I love but I won’t get hung up on that word, because I get the question you’re really asking. One I love that I haven’t seen mentioned is Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2. It’s a cheesterpiece.

Computron1234

Nice I'll have to check it out! I guess when I say guilty pleasure, I mean more like if you had a secret vacation spot that you knew was awesome but maybe other people wouldn't get it? I have named movies to people and gotten plenty of blank stares because they are low budget horror films instead of nightmare on elms street or Friday the 13th ect...

DallasMan5150

Elves (1989) Bloody Birthday (1981) Blood Rage (1987) Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (1988) Galaxy of Terror (1981) Night of the Creeps (1986) The Pit (1981) Humanoids from the Deep (1980) Burial Ground Nights of Terror (1981)
