Thank you Guerrilla Games for all your hard work and dedication to continously improving the game by fixing issues, and adding features highly requested by the fans and community! Much love ❤️🥰

Guerrilla cares. 🤗 I really thought the 60 fps was so good looking now with 1.16 that it doesn't need a 40 fps mode. 🧐

The 30fps version looks even better, but could be faster on TVs supporting 120hz. So here comes the 40fps mode! A 60hz TV can't display 40hz properly.

i genuinely couldn't tell the difference in resolution between 30 and 60fps mode, there were some difference only in water reflections. Maybe on bigger TVs is more evident (i have a 55'')

Yeah, to me the 60 fps performance mode is the way to play the game since patch 1.16. Now I tried the update 1.17 and tried the 40 fps mode and it's like with Ratchet and Clank.. It's cool that it's there for some people but in my opinion the 60 fps mode is still the way to go. It's unbelievable good-looking. You still have a much more clear picture in motion from 40 to 60. And I don't know if depends on the day or how much I have slept but I think it's now slightly better looking in 60 fps with VRR than before in 60. I haven't tried the high frame rate mode btw. For 3rd person games I like 60 fps.

I prefer the 40 fps mode. It feels like 60 and it’s like 95 percent of 4k. It’s beautiful

It doesn't feel like 60 at all to me. It feels only slightly better than the 30 mode when I switch in game. No option for me. I am playing on a 32 inch 4k 144 hz monitor btw and I absoutly can't play this mode let alone the 30 fps mode.

I mean the response time feels drastically improved. Idk I guess it’s different for everyone. I love how performance mode is like 70 fps now but the graphical degradation is too much for me personally when I now have a 40 fps option

The only noticeable difference I've seen is the dust swirls in performance are like a dot matrix, with vrr performance now it seems too have better dynamic resolution which actually makes the bad dust swirls more noticable, but it runs like 80-90fps which is a huge overall motion clarity improvement

That's high frame rate mode, isn't the resolution worse there than in normal performance 60 fps mode with VRR ? 🤔 Yeah, it has better DRS in both performance modes I guess. Edit: Actually I don't know now if I had played the high frame rate mode automatically. 😅😂 I could choose between 3 modes: Resolution(30), Performance and Balanced. And 120 Hz is on automatic so I guess I played with more than 60 fps. Hmm 🤔 It says better DRS on 60 hz so we have to set 120 Hz off in the settings?!

performance with vrr is somewhere between 60 and 120 fps

The ray tracing on 30fps is very evident but to be fair I'm on a 75". It's a night and day difference in most environments with robust lighting.

there's no ray tracing

>"We use ray tracing technology for a lot of things in the game. We use it for the sound engine, for the physics, and for the rendering. So we use a variety of technical setups, in terms of ray tracing. I'm not a tech engineer, so I can't explain it in much more detail than this. But yes, we are utilizing it." - Mathijs de Jong, game director of Horizon Forbidden West on June 6 2021 Looks like you're wrong.

these are different technologies, also based on tracing, that you can find also on older games. That's not what we usually refer to when we talk about ray tracing nowadays, which only refers to actual light being traced in order to provide things like Global illumination, shadows or reflections.

The Sony 55in XR X90J which I just got after my old sceptre 55in failed, has been getting a lot of VRR updates recently... I suspect due to games like HFW testing a lot on Sony hardware. I liked the sceptre because it didn't have a smart function... kinda whish the sony was the same way now as the smart functionality is a little buggy (TV sometimes hangs and requires restarting or won't display an input).

As if they’d join that chat at all

Seriously. I was kinda disappointed with some of the shortcomings and missing features (ie New game+) at launch, especially after waiting 5 years for the game, but they've been crushing it post launch. Great work! Hope the team knows everyone appreciates it

But hey it still ran better than Elden Ring!

>Removed exclamation point icon when all skills have been unlocked and skill points are available. I know this was a rather small issue, but it was extremely bothersome so thank you so much for addressing it and for the incredible continuous support in general. The addition of VRR is yet another huge step forward to the overall experience, just like when performance mode was fixed. The game has seen some drastic improvements since launch and I'm glad everyone at Guerrrilla still seems to be extremely passionate about making it even better. You guys are great! edit: Unfortunately 100% game progression in NG+ is still bugged as the game only registers 2 Machine sites scanned in NG+ when creating your NG+ save from a 100% normal game save.

Yeah, which 2 sites? I know Specter Prime got scanned so that's 1 but what's the other one?

Omfg yessss

Refresh Rates between 60 and 120hz in VRR and HFR sounds incredible. I love it

it's actually very close to 60 most of the times, still good to have options anyway

yeah. but it’s great for future proofing. by uncapping you 120 you can bet the added value comes in for ps5 pro or ps6. yeah that’s way down but seeing so many devs do this means much better backwards compat next gen. ps4 era lacked that vision and as so so many games 30fps locked without patches.

All the modes so far look and feel real good imo and this improves even more on that 😉

Testing results for you all: The TLDR: net 10-30% increases in frame rate in performance mode in game play. Yes you can push that a lot higher if you are just staring at the skybox in frame rate mode. https://i.imgur.com/0Uk3bvm.jpg Performance mode average frame rate is now approximately 75fps on average. Can hit the low 80s in general gameplay on occasion but rarely when there’s much happening on screen. Can dip back to high 60s during combat. https://i.imgur.com/5aVJUP6. Balanced mode seems to be 40fps. I’m guessing this is a checkerboard 4k. I can’t confirm if the frame rate is unlocked on not. It feels a LOT smoother than the resolution mode. Resolution mode seems to be 30 still. I could be wrong on both these modes here as the frame rate counter wasn’t displaying the correct results. The frame rates could be higher here, balanced certainly feels like it’s closer to 60 than 40. 30fps still feels very clunky to me. I would say my personal favourite is between balanced and performance. Performance mode in HFW since the last patch has been basically flawless. Looking borderline identical to native 4k unless I’m standing right up against my TV. And those buttery smith 75+ fps looks amazing in motion. Balanced looks and feels really good. I don’t think it’s unlocked. But the difference between 40 and 30 is a huge noticeable improvement. Again, I’m not digital foundry so leave some room for error. Edit: further testing. Performance mode seems to actually be a lot better than a 75 average… especially when using focus mode. https://i.imgur.com/nEE8Xwu.jpg Somehow the fucking wizards over at guerrilla just made the best looking game I have ever played perform even better. I mean holy shit, 100 fps while fighting a thunder jaw. I’ll take it. Edit 2: NXG gamer confirmed everything here. Both 30 & 40 fps modes are locked. 40fps is a checkerboard 4k. 30fps is native. Performance is 1800p checkerboard unlocked sitting around 70fps. But the TAA solution it looks as good as native 4k. Essentially the best looking & performing game a professional tech reviewer has ever seen: https://youtu.be/MHXlvjDFHfI

Are you sure balanced and resolution mode are unlocked? I couldn't see VRR window activating, but the game is not stuttering

I can see it activating on an Oled c1. But it’s not always accurate. Could just seem like more of an improvement than I think it is. The only mode I can be 100% sure on is the performance mode as my tracking seems to be accurate there. Most of my testing was in performance because the improvement was very noticeable and the FPS tracker is actually working correctly there. Side note is that VRR is only active above 48fps. Maybe the resolution and balance modes dip below this?

That's for hardware side if they put the 40fps mode in a 120fps output they can create a lfrc mode in software thereby tricking and activating vrr at lower actual rates this works in r&c and sm miles m. The devs just have to do it themselves but when they do, the reported frame rate appears 2x higher.

balanced mode on lg c2 shows 120fps on game optimizer menu, same for you?

Yes. This is incorrect though. What’s basically happening is it’s in 120fps mode but the games only refreshing at 40, so 1/3rd of that. It’s why the 30fps resolution mode is saying it’s 60 (it isn’t, it’s still 30)

Im testing it now and for me performance is still best to play, but can't say that balanced looks bad.

Performance is my favourite as well.

Is there a way to lock the PS5 to 60 fps? I only have a 60 Hz TV so more than 60 is pointless.

It’s locked 60 in performance mode if VRR is disabled in the PS5 system menus.

Great patch! Looking forward to a story DLC that hopefully allows us to explore the island 🏝

Hawaii DLC would be nice, but I still hope for more southern california.

I want Vancouver, but only because I live there and it would be cool to see my own city in a video game. All the mountains surrounding it too. Perfect for Horizon. I remember when Mass Effect 3 came out it was so cool to see my city in a game finally. Getting invaded by aliens. It was a futuristic version, but you could see the landmarks and the mountains around it.

Vancouver might be a bit too far north to be habitable, given that the Frozen Wilds only went as far as Yellowstone and they went hard on emphasizing just how cold and hostile the environment was there. 🙁 It's coastal and not THAT much further north though, so it could be possible!

Yeah, it's hard to say. Vancouver gets pretty hot throughout the year and never usually gets very cold compared to somewhere like Calgary or Montreal. Lots of rain though.

Frozen WIlds is also all the way up in the mountains... Vancouver has a pretty mild climate, being by the coast and close to sea level.

Where have they announced a DLC for that island?

They didn't. People are just assuming there'll be one.

I'm guessing DLC is coming around October or November. Already approaching kind of fast I still got tons left to do in the game lol

What island?

The final battle area.

you can already get back there if you approach from the right angle ;)

Wait, where???

Look on Youtube, there are video explaining how to do it. The shieldwing has special powers:)

Thank you!

No probs, mind you I've had a quick look and none of them are very good at explaining it. So basically what you're trying to do is get passed the invisible wall the game has up round the island. So fly to it from any direction and once the game starts trying to get you to turn away or flashes up a message saying you need to turn back, jump off and use your shieldwing to try and glide to the island, you might get a sign saying 'you can't enter this location' Keep gliding and then look for your sunwing, if it's closer to the island than you, call it and it should pull you through the invisible wall. Then jump on and have fun exploring the island. It can take a few attempts to get this exploit to work. It also works in other part do the map so as an eg you can get to the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge and the land beyond that and a bunch of other areas, you're always at risk of going out of bounds and being sent back to the last save so just be aware and have fun exploring!

This is really good. Thanks for taking the time to help 😍 I’ll give it a shot! Hope they still make story DLC, though.

No worries, always happy to help people get new and cool photo mode opportunities:) Yeah, hope we get some cool DLC, maybe get to visit these mysterious burning shores mentioned in a few data points! Good hunting.

The final battle area.

You can get back onto that island quite easily. Fly until you can't progress. Drop into the water. Swim a little, get picked up, glide down, you'll make it.

Wow. Seriously, you guys go above and beyond. While I don't have any compatible displays to take advantage of this patch, congrats to everyone else who can! GG continuing to show us where the standard of game development and communication should be! I look forward to all the crazy shit some people will be doing on 120Hz lmao

What “crazy shit” are you anticipating…?

I mean no one is actually going to hit 120fps during normal gameplay

Mmmm I'd say it might be likely in the less intensive areas? Where there aren't as many entities or high quality textures on screen. Is it gonna happen often? Nope, but even then a boost above 60Hz is pretty fucking cool.

“Removed exclamation point icon when all skills have been unlocked and skill points are available.” - Thank you from all of us!

Oh wow, so with VRR 60 you get even better resolution than before while HFR unlocks the frame rate up to 120. Can't wait to try these modes. Thank you Guerrilla!

There actually isn't a separate mode for 60 and 120 as far as I know, I just installed the patch. The favor performance mode now fluctuates between 60 and 120 fps and atleast to me looks the same as before but it's noticeably smoother now. I could be talking from my ass though, wait for the digital foundry analysis,

I don't think you're talking from your ass. Feels smoother to me too, which is probably a combination of the higher framerate + VRR (which, along with matching the refresh rate to the framerate, has the added benefit of reducing input lag).

the frame rate has not changed much, i got around 65fps while running. The better smoothness probably comes from reduced input lag

Ah thanks for the info. I have my ps5 hooked up to my LG CX, which doesn't have the handy game info section to show FPS. Was curious how high the framerate would go above 60 in typical scenarios. I'd assume that's out in the open world? Might start approaching that 120 fps limit in smaller, enclosed areas.

I have the CX too, you can see the refresh rate of the TV if you press 7 times the green button. Anyway you can get very close to 120fps if you look at the sky :)

Oh damn I didn't know you could do that, thanks for the tip!

Holy shit! Post-release support for this game is unbelievable. Thanks, Guerrilla.

The new patch is crazy good, the framerate fluctuates between 60 and 120 depending on the complexity of the scene and atleast to me it does not look jarring at all when the framerate dips, to me it just varies between very smooth and insanely smooth. I'm using LG C1 btw. What a shame I actually finished the game just yesterday, but atleast the DLC's will be even greater experience now. The new 40 fps mode looks very good too but you have to put motion blur atleast to low on a OLED TV otherwise the frames look a bit flickery because of the instant response of the panel. It's so much better than the 30fps mode, the input lag somehow feels better too. But after seeing the 60-120 fps mode I wouldn't use this, the game still looks so good with it. Maybe if this was some other game and the 40 fps mode added something like ray tracing I would probably use that mode, it really does not feel bad like the 30 fps.

I have a C9 and I don't see a specific mode for 40hz. Do you?

I do, it's called balanced. Check that you have enabled 120hz and VRR support from the PS5 settings.

You don't need to enable VRR for Balanced mode to get a locked 40fps. Only 120Hz needs to be enabled.

It’s called Balanced mode, the original 30fps mode is Resolution mode

True. The C9 menu shows that it's in 120hz but I guess it's because 40 it's a multiple of 120. Thanks

Yep same for the C1, it's using LFC to multiply the framerate.

I just got the update but I only see favor performance or favor resolution?

it's called "balanced mode"

Amazing patch amazing game

Now I can't decide between Balanced or Performance modes lol. They look exactly the same to me on my OLED. Guerilla gotta be the best developers in the industry. The amount of support this game got, when it was already a super excellent game, it's crazy. I just wish other developers start looking at Guerilla as the standard in gaming.

I'm sticking to Balanced Mode because the resolution is tack sharp.

Wait. Ultra Hard can't be changed, period?? Not even after the main quest? 'Cause if that's the case, I'm gonna speedrun my Ultra Hard campaign to get another NG+ going as my permanent game for the DLC. Don't get me wrong, the game is still fun on UH but there's a few activities that I don't have the patience for on that difficulty. (Melee pits and Hunting Grounds in particular are **rough** and I planned to do them after I got the option to tone the game down to Very Hard.) Also, not to mention the pain of farming for upgrades.

Yeah this was the way it was for Zero Dawn as well and I got locked into doing the DLC on Ultra Hard which was something else haha.

Oof, I wasn't aware of that since I haven't gotten the chance to do Zero Dawn on Ultra Hard yet. That could've at least given me a hint that playing on UH will permanently lock me in that difficulty. But oh my god, the thought of any potential Forbidden West DLC's having any activities as painfully difficult as the Snowchants Hunting Grounds in The Frozen Wilds and being forced to do it in UH might make me cry. So yep, I'll just have to speedrun my current UH game and probably just do the side quests that offer the limited coils so I can restart and have a permanent save on Very Hard.

Weirdly enough I experience a raised Black Level when in performance or balanced mode. 30 fps mode seems right, but now after switching, VRR kicks in and the PS5 somehow displays everything with much less contrast. I guess it’s rgb full before, in vrr only yuv codec. Anyone know what to do? LG C9 Oled

I've got an LG B9 and I've had that issue with some VRR games. I set the console to limited range and the TV to black level low and it looks good now. I think our generation of TV unfortunately can't auto switch between low/high black levels, and [email protected] is always low while non-VRR/[email protected] defaults to high.

Change to rgb limited/low and it should be fixed Absolut no benefits if you using Rgb full. Like you say one ist Rgb, the other ycbcr422 (120fps) Here is how you can check if VRR is working and whats the PS5 output is https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED/comments/ul9rxq/lg_c9_how_do_i_know_if_vrr_is_on/i7u4v40?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

Thanks, that did the trick

If you press the green button 7 times quickly you can see the signal information. My C1 indeed shows that it changes from RGB to YCBCR422. But I don't see any difference in the black levels, it shouldn't affect those. Are you sure your TV does not change picture mode at the same time or something?

Samsung QN90A, same thing happening with my TV. I wonder why this happens.

Y'all take such good care of us! This is great news! :)

Question: the 30 fps mode and the 40 fps mode are the same graphic settings? Also the 60fps with VRR mode has it more reduced than resolution or is there less foliage or lower draw distance or something like that?

Favour Resolution: 4K, 30fps Favour Performance: used to be 60fps, now, according to Reddit and their patch notes, it's HFR that fluctuates between 60 - 120 fps that's also dependent on supported disappear. It's 1800p. Balanced: Utilises VRR-supported displays to strike balance between Resolution and having 40fps (same case like Miles Morales where if played on a VRR supported display, you can play Fidelity Mode in 40fps instead of 30fps) IF I AM WRONG DO CORRECT ME; but that's my understanding after downloading the update to try it out and reading the patch notes + Redditor's input.

balanced should function without vrr, just need 120 hz

Is It best to play performance, resolution or balanced now? What y’all do?

Performance for me, game still looks great on that mode

I expected to prefer the 40 fps mode, but first impressions are the performance mode is so good, the others aren't worth it unless you're on a 65" screen or larger.

Can vouch for this. I didn't want to go to Performance mode due to 4K HDR OLED, which on this game, LOOKS AMAZING. Even on the improved Performance mode, I was still SO noticeable due to a big screen, and me sitting close to the TV to immerse myself. But at times the chunky 30FPS can get annoying, especially considering how much the 60FPS Performance mode got upgraded due to the update. But 40FPS? I couldn't be happier. Although if you like to sit afar, even on a 65 inch, it isn't worth it. Unless you got a huge screen with all kinds of features to make the image into eye candy; It's better off to just play Performance. This has been--for me at least a gift.

40 fps looks terrible on an OLED imo. Have you turned on motion blur by any chance?

Looks fine on my CX without motion interpolation (because motion interpolation sucks and should never be used for anything)

Always performance

Not always the case, the 40fps mode in Ratchet and Clank was God Tier.

I have never played a ratchet and clank game before. But I’m seeing so much good stuff about this one I kind of want to check it out.

The whole point of there being different modes is so you can decide for yourself.

Is anyone else having a problem going from gameplay to inventory/map/etc then back to gameplay. Opening those menus is fine, but closing then causes my LG B9 TV to briefly turn black and then back to gameplay, as if it has changed inputs. This only happens in performance mode. Balanced and resolution mode do not have this issue. EDIT: Turning off VRR OR 120Hz seems to resolve the above issue. It’s pretty much unplayable with it since the brief amount of time it returns from the map or other menu, I could be mid combat and getting annihilated.

I am having the same issue!!! I'll try turning off vrr and see if it fixes it for me! Update: turning off vrr also worked for me

Maybe it's because I'm an older dude, idk, but balanced mode feels just about right for me. If I'm playing an fps, sure I'm going for the max framerate. For this type of game though, I look for that cinematic feel. 30fps was almost a slideshow to me. This feels great! Thanks Guerilla!

Balanced Mode is perfect! Much better than the original resolution mode.

I love the new Balanced Mode. This is everything I could have asked for. The 80 FPS in performance mode is buttery smooth, but it's hard for me to sacrifice the resolution for it. Balanced mode truly feels "Next Gen"

The fix for the elite precision arrows and brittle state - ah, hell yeah. Nice!

The knocked off boss-fight machine parts that disappear or are inaccessible after mandatory cutscenes is pretty annoying. Some of those fights are pretty long and hard and taking the time to scan, tag and shoot off the juicy bits make them even longer and harder, but then you do, and you win, and then \*\*MANDATORY CUTSCENE INTERRUPTS\*\* annnnnd they're gone. Thanks. Super helpful.

Obviously can’t wait for a DLC but would also like to explore the Zeinith Base in the Post Game. My PS5 crashed while installing 1.17 patch so I’ve had to delete the game & am currently redownloading it now so it’ll be a couple of hours before I can comment further.

Kings/Queens! 👑

Cries with Sony X900H tears.

Why? I have one - what’s wrong?

No VRR wit local dimming

You'll be fine if you ignore VRR modes. On the X900H it will darken the visuals, forcing you to increase the gamma to make it somewhat better. 120Hz mode though looks great despite some resolution issues on the display. Enable it with Performance mode (up to 120 fps) or Balanced mode (better visuals at 40 fps with no judder) in this game to get the best results.

Headsup: the Apex Burrower and Scrounger Hearts are still listed in the Valuables To Sell section. Arr they actually safe to sell or are they also required for something?

There's some apex hearts that lend to no upgrades, which is why they're listed as sellable. I don't see any notes about those two being components in the wikia.

Man I'm so proud of Guerilla being Dutch as a Dutch person myself. One of the best game developers and best post-release support.

Guerilla thanks for this, but I'm seeing too much pop-in with these latest updates. Seeing grass and people pop-in less than 20 ft away is happening too frequently. An example is running around Plainsong. I've even see a large satellite dish come out of nowhere.

Performance mode feels incredible, even with such a minor increase to fps. With the combination of vrr, motion blur, perfect frame pacing, and playing on an OLED, this has become the best combination of look/feel of a game to play in my opinion. Amazing work

I encountered a weird issue when zooming in and out with the bow (and other weapons),while playing at 40hz. The screen "shakes" everytime I use the bow and zoom in. Doesn't seem right. It does not affect the other modes. Anyone else experiencing this?

Amazing patch, thanks Guerrilla!

Sad that my Sony tv won't support VRR 😭

So... will I be able to change difficulty back from Ultra Hard after beating it in NG+? Maybe after the final mission? I cant keep farming like this I'm going crazy & bankrupt on these hunter killers...

Nop, it's in the UI/UX notes. Well, time to start a new NG cycle to farm the new weapons

Great. The cloaked dreadwing messed my game yesterday.

Y'all are seriously the best!

Hm I wasn’t expecting this patch so fast and planed to play this game after my vacation. Maybe I’m starting sooner.

Yes another reason to get lost with no hud! Thanks GG! Another patch to spam hours in this game.

Anyone knows what dye color is that on the Carja Stalker Elite on the photo above?

The orange dye only obtainable on a New Game+ playthrough. Burnished Sun for Carja outfits iirc.

Copying the update now! My LG Oled is gonna be purring

YEEESS!!! I put the game away in anticipation of the 40 frames. I'm so freaking excited

Is there any updates on a possible dlc?

Underpromised with a 40hz mode and overdelivered with an 120hz mode. If Guerilla doesn't win some award for best post launch support imma lose it

i know it sounds like a request but can GG's devs fix or having better optimization for the climbing system? Aloy climb real slow and really struggle finding a correct point even the point to climb is right in front of her reach. Everything else have been fixed, but only the climbing system is not touching at all. Also, 1 minor thing that a little annoying is the way Aloy grab a big box to move. She can not move it freely like the way Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) or Nathan Drake (Uncharted). Whenever I wanna rotate the direction (previous one I use Straight), I have to release the box and go to the side I wanna push. This is a weird control, especially in modern games nowadays. I know my comment is just a minor but I hope it could reach to GG somehow :( Sorry for my complaining while it should be a celebrate to the team to continue improve the visual aspects.

Aloy should learn to free climb in the next game.

Can't use VRR on my OLED TV, but i am playing since the last patch and i am still extremely happy with the new 60 FPS performance mode. Game looks fantastic! I only wish you would introduce a second weapon wheel, maybe with pressing L1 and tapping L2 to switch between the two wheels. Swapping weapons in the inventory during a fight always breaks the immersion for me, so i completely stopped using some of the weapon types and now i am only playing with the weapons in my weapon wheel. And a flashlight would be great, maybe for the next game?

Great, the Hive Rebel camp bug is still not fixed.

cd projekt red could stand to learn a lot from Guerrilla.

Finally found time to play through the first one (I think I’m on the last mission!). The game looks and runs spectacular on PS5. Looking forward to starting Forbidden West soon! I can’t imagine how a game can look better than the first one, but I’ll see!

So excited the ! Is gone... Who else has their personal bug list to test? Going to check: * outfits being see-through when backlit by sun and other lights * outfit animations, erratic movements * voice line triggers * blown up humans death animation

So I don't know if this has been reported to y'all yet, but the left pauldron on the Tenakth Skirmisher/High Marshall armor needs some attention. It's very... quirky in cutscenes and likes to "jump" around *a lot*. I don't know a better way to say it. Basically just keeps glitching and moving to an awkward position and then moving back to the normal position really quickly. It's intermittent, but it's enough that it takes you out of the cutscene and it's all you can focus on. I'll submit it to your support page.

Yo GG...can we get different color focus customization please? 🙏

What is seems like to me is, in order to get the best experience, it's best to NOT buy the game on launch and wait until it's feature rich and relatively bug free. These companies are confused when fans don't buy the game for full price on launch when they take 6 months fixing the damn game and making it how it should've been in the first place.

The game was 100% enjoyable and playable at launch, quit your whining.

With massive amounts of pop-in and really blurry performance mode. Yeah, it was great.

The color scheme of the outfit in this screenshot is awesome, is that a ng+ dye or something?

That exclamation point update is the best one. If that was the only thing they fixed with this update, it would have been well worth it. I hate seeing exclamation points where I can't do anything to make them go away.

QOL request,- please reinstate the white boxes indicating scannable datapoints nearby Aloy. And please reinstate forward facing directional machine statuses.

I can’t wait for the PC release… just put 200 hours into HDZ absolutely love that game… we’ll get HFW eventually I suppose.

Could they fix the combat arenas or whatever they’re called? I’m stuck on the bloody Thornmarsh one coz the button inputs they show you aren’t right :(

To get through it, especially the later ones in Thornmarsh, you have to basically chain the moves by using the LAST button of the first move as the FIRST button in the next attack of the chain, which the game doesn't clue you into at all. Instead, they list the moves fully in the actual event onscreen, so it's counter-intuitive, but there's a good video on youtube that clued me into this: [https://youtu.be/0nvKZY0WwME?t=499](https://youtu.be/0nvKZY0WwME?t=499) As for the Enduring on Ultra Hard...you're on your own there lol - thankfully you don't have to defeat them to get the NG+ trophies. Hope this helps!

So is it safe to sell everything in the “Valuables to Sell” now?

Also wondering when the Tenakth Marshal & Sobeck's Raiment are gonna be fixed. Clearly the Tenakth Marshal outfit should be Blue/Rare, not Purple/Very Rare, and Sobeck's Raiment should be the other way around. Surprised to see such a small simple thing not be noticed or fixed yet.

I would really love to read a developers doc titled "Lessons learned" about the development of Forbidden West. What would you improve? What would you change? what design decisions do you consider were bad (i.e. "don't do this again"), and which ones good?

I’m updated to 1.17 but balanced mode is not appearing in my options. Where do I find it?

Is your VRR turned on? If you still don't see it then your display is probably not supported.

Hello Guerilla, thanks for the update. I know it's Sony's fault, not yours, but could you guys please tell Sony to get off their asses and support VRR for non HDMI 2.1 displays? VRR is supported on even HDMI 1.4. Personally, I have a 1440p144hz screen that supports VRR perfectly fine on my computer, yet "only" has HDMI 2.0. There is no reason for Sony to force HDMI 2.1 other than forcing 4k screens. It makes no sense to force 4k when most games (when running at 60+fps) can never hit it, and typically run at around 1440p anyway, and just upscale it to 4k. There are more screens out there that support VRR without HDMI 2.1 than there are HDMI 2.1 screens. It's so ass backwards. Sincerely, fans of the PS5 who want to use it to its best abilities instead of restricting it for no reason.

Where do I activate those news modes? I've updated the game and only see the two old modes, i.e. Performance and Resolution

you need a 120hz tv and 120hz to be activated in ps5 settings

Appreciate the update but this honestly sounds confusing. What is the best option to go with for my C1 OLED?

Balanced or performance mode depending on your own preference. Performance is more smooth, balanced looks slightly more detailed/crisp.

Thank you sir. I finally understand it now.

I dont see the Balance option even after updating my ps5 and the game I have a TCL roku 4k with 120hz

I've checked my settings a bunch of times after the update and it all looks the same. I'm on PS5.

Great, great patch, thank you! A suggestion: please include an option to automatically switch to Balanced grephics mode during cut scenes, even when playing the amazing Performance mode. A lot of people would like to watch the cut scenes in higher fidelity while enjoying the high performance during gameplay.

~~can someone please explain what balanced mode does? There aren't many articles out yet fully explaining what it does. Does targets 60hrz to 120hrz means it fluctuates between those two? I'm really confused. Will it appear that the frame rate is going between 60fps and 120fps? sorry if this a noob question... also is it normal that the screen turns black for a few seconds when switching to balanced to performance right?~~ Edit: ooh I get it now, someone explained it. I didn't understand the difference between refresh rate and fps 🤦lol.

My understanding is balanced is the new 40 FPS mode that requires VRR and 120Hz displays to offer a middle ground between Resolution and Performance.

Balanced slightly drops the resolution to allow for 40 fps instead of 30, also greatly reducing input lag as it uses a 120 hz refresh rate.

Thank you so much for explaining it. I didn't realize the difference between refresh rate and fps...🤦 but that makes so much sense! I tested it out and wow it's amazing.

Btw another question if you don't mind. With the update, besides the new balanced mode, does that mean the resolution mode is improved because of vrr?

I don't think so, resolution mode should be the same.

Just tested the new Balanced and Favor Performance modes. Balanced looks great and feels super smooth. That’s probably how I’ll play going forward. Resolution might be around 1800p or so, so not native 4K but close enough where most people won’t notice the difference. Favor Performance mode I was getting between 65 FPS and 110 FPS. Honestly couldn’t even notice the frame drops, VRR does an excellent job smoothing everything over. Great job GG!

That sounds fan-freaking-tastic.

What's your display size? On my 55" I can barely see a difference between performance and balanced modes in terms of the resolution, so it seems like performance is the way to go for me without a doubt, it just looks fantastic in motion as well. Resolution mode still clearly better though in 4K, but the 30 fps isn't worth it.

65” CX. I was right up close to it and took some comparison photos. I noticed some additional shimmering on distant stems in Balanced mode and a little more detail on a rope in Favor Resolution. It’s not obvious unless you really look up close and hard, but that’s why I think it’s close to 4K, maybe 1800p or so.

Quick question if you don't mind. How good does the Favor Performance mode look? Same resolution as before the patch?

GG says there’s dynamic scaling improvements so I’m guessing the resolution floor is set a little higher since the game can now go below 60 FPS in VRR, but I couldn’t personally tell if it was higher resolution. It might be a small increase. The extra frames are a big deal though.

Thanks a lot! By the way, have you noticed any stuttering while using the FP mode?

I didn’t notice any stuttering in any modes. Didn’t have a ton of time to test this morning though.

This out now?

Still no fix for the randomly freezing photo mode camera outside of settlements and quests? Will be sending in another report. Maybe it’s under “known issues” but since it’s not listed report incoming.

How do I get the patch, mine says 1.00

That means you’ve got none of the updates. If you highlight the game and then click the options button you should see a menu pop up and there should be something that says check for updates. Click that. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/playstation-system-software-application-version/ You should also go into your settings for the console and turn on automatic updates. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/automatic-updates-playstation/

Pros: -Performance looks improved over the 1.15 60fps update, resolution seems slightly lower but that’s expected with the frame rates hovering from 60-80fps. -Balanced mode feels smooth, almost has the fidelity of resolution mode. The resolution is slightly lower . Definitely not native 4K resolution. Cons: -the sharpness offered in resolution mode is gone and the image is noticeably softer compared to 1.04. Foliage also appears to be lass sharp and detailed as well. I notice more popin than I did at launch. -waves and ocean in San Francisco area look downgraded.

I really hope resolution is not lower on performance mode than it was. I was very happy with everything from the last update. I rather keep it at 60fps.

Just tried the new patch on my 55" LG C1. Performance mode now goes up to 120FPS in menus, 60-70FPS in combat and 60-70-80FPS in exploration. Balanced mode is the mode I wished all PS5 games had. 40 locked FPS with great responsiveness, feeling like 45FPS due to VRR.

Its a locked 40fps in balanced mode. VRR isn't even working in this mode and isn't needed.

So there are four modes now: \- Resolution: **Locked 30fps** with **LFC** and **VRR** in **native** **[email protected] 12bit RGB** resolution/refreshrate color depth and space (color banding is less visible in this mode, but the subtle film grain hides the banding well enough in other modes too) \- Performance 1: **Unlocked framerate** which fluctuates between **\~58-100fps** with **VRR** in **checkerboarded [email protected] 8bit ycbcr 4:2:2** resolution/refreshrate color depth and space (Lower graphics settings than Balanced and Resolution modes, more visible color banding artifacts compared to Resolution mode) \- Performance 2: **Locked 60fps** with **VRR** in **checkerboarded [email protected] 12bit RGB** (Lower graphics settings than Balanced and Resolution modes, color banding is less visible in this mode too) \-Balanced: **Locked 40fps** with **LFC** and **VRR** in **checkerboarded [email protected] 8bit ycbcr 4:2:2** resolution/refreshrate color depth and space (Graphics settings seem to match resolution mode, but I could be wrong, more visible color banding artifacts compared to Resolution mode) In my opinion the best way to play is the "Performance 2" mode with locked 60fps and VRR, plus this mode can run the display in 12bit RGB color depth and space too. Unlocked framerate means fluctuating frametime even with VRR, and this game fluctuates between \~58-100fps which is a huge range.

It's absurd how professional you people are. Fantastic game that works at launch, great fixes and extra features, and a little free content with every game. You should be celebrated.

So the only mode that actually varies in refreshrate is performance? What? Why can't you implement it like Spider Man. Favor resolution at native 4k with variable refreshrate.

Thumbs up, very good 👍🏾
